Welcome players! I need you to do the following things before we can start:
1. Download your character sheet (here) .
2. Create an alias for your character, complete with appropriate avatar (search your iconic character's name and many choices will come up).
3. Put the following info in your header for my easy access (put it in the classes/levels section of your profile so it shows up under your name).

4. Practice moving your character token with ditzie. A quick tutorial:
a. Click the link: Map of Black Fang's Dungeon.
b. Click and drag your character token to where you'd like to move.
c. Hit "enter" to update the link.
d. Copy and paste the new link into the bottom of your post.
!. Always use the most recently posted link.
Once everyone has successfully moved their character and posted the new link within the discussion thread, I'll get the game thread up and going.
Please feel free to ask any and all questions you might have. Now, let's have some fun!
Hmm... I can click and move Kyra's token around, but it won't let me actually move her from where she is.
@Kyra - What do you mean? Are you saying your token "snaps back" to its starting position when you try to move it? Or, when you load the map after moving it doesn't save your move?
@Merisiel - That won't be a huge problem as long as you describe your moves carefully during daytime posts and log them at night. Or is the technology a dealbreaker for you?
not a deal breaker (yet anyway) let me get home and try a newer computer. I'll give it my best shot.
Are we starting this game right at the beginning of the dungeon, or are we going to do any "Town" play first?

Sorry GM - the first. The token snaps back to the origin square. And when you say to press "Enter" do you mean on my keyboard, or should there be an Enter button to click with the mouse?
@Merisiel - Yeah, the iconic characters aren't really optimized. If this adventure goes well, we can see about you all making new original characters with the Beginner Box rules.
I was planning on having you jump right into the start of things, but if you all prefer some in-town time I could conjure it up. My at-home group always like to negotiate their fee before any obvious adventuring. I just find an in-media-res beginning usually works best for PbP.

@Kyra - Huh ... Not sure what to do with that. If you can view the map, then you can just describe your move and I'll take care of it. Otherwise, I could attach a grid to the map. I know ditzie runs on Java - do you have that (or is it updated?
@Ezren - SM is Sense Motive.
I'm currently using my computer at work, and I'm not smart enough to know what's installed - I know that I can't install anything here. I'll try again tonight (about 9 pm Pacific) on my home computer to see if it'll work. Otherwise, I'll be super descriptive and have you move the tokens. That will be fine by me, I've had PbP GMs that don't have players move characters.
@Kyra - I have no problems with that. I was one of those "theater of the mind" GMs until I found this shiny new toy. And if it works at home - even better!

Tried your map and it will not move my token. When I press enter the screen refreshes but nothing happen to my token. Do I have to download anything?
@Ezren - I don't understand. It works for the other game I run. I'll try putting up a different link later tonight.
Okay I moved Merisiel 20 feet forward, hit save, copied the link and posted it here and it looks like it worked for me

@Ezren - What browser are you using? Will your token move at all when you try to drag it?
1. I will roll initiative for everyone and post the order in the following format:
Ezren / Merisiel / Goblins / Valeros / Kyra
Ezren and Merisiel may go in whatever order they like. Then the goblins will go. And so on. And so on.
2. Whenever a GM would normally call for a skill check, I will post a spoiler with the DC requirement as so:
It will be up to you (and your honor) to make the rolls and check the spoiler if you make the check.
3. I will make saving throws on players' behalf when called for. Any abilities that might change the result of saving throws may be enacted retroactively and I will edit the post.
4. You can still make unsolicited skill checks, as you would in any other game.
5. Since we're using pre-generated character sheets, all you need to track are your spells and any expendable inventory. I'll leave it up to you how you want to do that on your profile.
If you have any questions about the above or the Beginner Box rules in general, feel free to ask. I intend to get things started tomorrow morning.
I like to use the strikeout function for spells and consumable items. But that's just me.
token will not move at all. Even tried to move all the other tokens. went to the ditzie website but did not find anything that helped solve the problem. I guess I'll just discribe my moves and you can move the token for me. See you guys tomorrow off to bed now.

Ezren pulls a torch from his backpack and lites it using a little magical energy from his hand. He then slowly moves right behind Kyra.
@Kyra - The strikeout function is a wonderful way to track it.
@Ezren - That will be perfectly fine with me. Just use relative descriptions of moves in your posts (Ezren moves 2 spaces south of Valeros) and I'll take care of updating the map for you.

@Ezren - Must be a browser issue. I know Kyra was having the same thing happen. Maybe he/she figured out what the problem was.
PS - Anything said out of character, like discussion of mechanics or the ditzie map, should have an ooc tag on the Gameplay thread or can be talked about openly on the Discussion thread.
By the way, there's a completely new map on the Gameplay thread, so make your moves and post your links! Notice the fancy curtain of green moss I added. (I'm having entirely too much fun with ditzie and Photoshop.)
@GM - I just lucked out and it worked for me at home. I honestly couldn't tell you what the difference was other than I'm stuck using Windows IE at work and use Chrome on my home computer.
But it could be that Java isn't fully updated on my work setup. Sorry to be less than helpful in this regard.
@Kyra - I'd say that's plenty helpful. I use Chrome as well and have never had any problems getting it to run.
Downloading Chrome now. I'll see if that works. I wanted to try some of the text formatting in this thread if you guys don't mind.

Using Chrome worked to fix my problem... at least here at work. I'll download it at home later. I have moved Ezren.
@Ezren - Good deal. Here's a new challenge for you: make your ditzie link an embedded link.
Just waiting on Valeros. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt what with the Paizo site being down all day.
@Merisiel - In the Beginner Box, you cannot move through or end your turn in an enemy's space. That's just as well because the two goblins are standing single-file. You wouldn't be able to get into position to flank Valeros. Feel free to edit your post.
FYI - There are also no attacks of opportunity in the Beginner Box, so there's a ton more freedom of movement. That's just one of the things about the Beginner Box rules that make it ideal for more streamlined play-by-post.
Interesting about no attacks of opportunity. I know I read that the rules had been streamlined for the Beginner Box, which makes sense given it's purpose, but it will be fun to see what's been altered. I also noticed that the character sheet didn't have Touch or Flat-Footed ACs listed, unless I missed them.
@Kyra - There are still touch and flat-footed ACs. Here's a list of things I have found to be different or removed from the Beginner Box:
- Attacks of Opportunity
- Armor Check Penalty
- Arcane Spell Failure
- Combat Maneuvers
- Size Modifiers
- A number of spells, skills, and feats
- Encumbrance
- Languages
Pretty much all of the fiddly things that slow things down. In real life I run an ongoing Beginner Box game because my players tend to life roleplay a lot more than tactical combat. Also, with only an hour at lunch to play each session, we appreciated the faster, streamlined combat.
I hope I don't annoy anybody with Kyra's enthusiasm for Sarenrae. I tend to play characters that are very similar to my own personality, and so I'm trying something new, you know - try to improve my role-playing.

@Kyra, I like your enthusiasm. I just don't think my character likes it due to his past run in's with religion.

So the -4 to ranged attack while the enemy is in combat is a rule in the Beginner Box? Can spells critical? If so my last Ray of Frost was a natural 20.
@Ezren - There is the -4 penalty, but you cannot attack through Kyra and Valeros. Not sure if spells can critical, I'll look that up.
UPDATE - Sure enough, a 20 is a critical threat when casting a spell. When you roll a natural 20, you roll again to confirm the critical hit. If you confirm, then you deal x2 damage.
