Soran purchases an anti toxin and an alchemists fire as well, and inquires about the alchemical ingredients he needs to make certain arrows. Namely, holy water, fine bone fragments, and small vials.
Alexander Orlovsky |
Well, if everyone has what they want, we can carry on with our work and stop bothering this good man, Alexander says with a smile. It was a pleasure to meet you, Bokken. We'll stop in again and let you know how things went. And if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. You can tell Oleg and he'll pass it on if we're out in the field.
He looks around at the others, I suggest we carry on with our mapping and when we come near this nest of spiders we remain especially alert. I suppose we should keep an eye out for acorns as well.
Should we roll for mapping areas after we explore or before? In any case, here's a roll for so far.
Knowledge (Geography): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Thaliar Medevin |
And I'm back
Thaliar spent most of his time looking around Bokken's abode, seeing what the old man had on his shelves.
As the others prepare to depart he turns to Bokken, "This may sound odd, but could I buy some empty flasks from you? If we are off to kill spiders I can't let that venom go to waste you know. It could be turned into a nasty surprise for some bandit."
Eduard Petrov |
Eduard looks up from his curiosity to look at Thaliar as he speaks. "I believe that Bokken has said that his flasks come from Oleg. We would need to purchase such things back at the trading post I imagine."
Alexander Orlovsky |
I think there were no objections to carrying on the way we were going and being extra alert near where Bokken said the spiders were. So we don't have to do any backtracking for mapping.
The Winds of Fate |
I'll be working on that map later today. I'm trying to get one ready that has all the areas blanked out that you haven't actually explored yet.
For now, the hex that has Bokken's hut in it is directly to the east of the hex that has Oleg's trading post. The hex that you will be exploring next is below both of those hexes.
After saying goodbye to Bokken, you follow the general directions he gave while you explore. The area here is sparsely wooded and the ground rather uneven and rocky. Here and there you see large boulders dotting the landscape.
Perception checks please
Radomir Shax |
Radomir also keeps his eyes open as they ride. He tries to stay to the front of the group, so he can have a free path to charge down with his lance.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
The Winds of Fate |

perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
You guess that you are closing in upon the central area of the nest when you walk into a clearing that is strewn to a radius of nearly 200 feet with the skeletons of boars, deer, bears, and a few humans. Your horses crunch through the skeletal remains. There seems to be an absence of any living wildlife in this area, perhaps the spiders have hunted here for too long?
Perceptions of 10 and above notice the shine of metal near what looks like 3 humanoid skeletons clustered together.
Alexander Orlovsky |
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
How could spiders do this?
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Surprise Round: Not acting.
Alexander rides his horse into the clearing wondering at the size of the creature that managed to kill all these animals and people. Still working it out in his head, he's caught completely unaware.
Soren Bowman |
Sorry guys, I must have clicked the x by gameplay because this hasn't shown up as updated since my last post. My bad.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Soran keeps his bow drawn, and waits for the enemy to reveal itself.
Eduard Petrov |
Knowledge (History): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Eduard tries to stay in the middle of the group and frowns a bit.
"This does not look promising..." he mutters to himself.
Edit: Oh, and Initiative
Initiative: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
The Winds of Fate |
1d6 ⇒ 3
When rolling to determine random attacks, numbers are assgined alphabetically.
Also, too bad no one took the bait to dismount. ;)
bite attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
A rattling of bones is all the warning anyone gets when a pony sized spider jumps out of a conceal hole in the ground, attempts and fails to bite Eduard's horse and then springs back into it's hole.
Soren Bowman |
Soran keeps his bow nocked.
I don't, but if it shows its face again, I'll make sure it regrets it.
I also forgot Intitative earlier.

Round 1: Initiative 15
Alexander shakes off the shock of seeing such a large spider spring from its hole. Spiders of unusual size? I feel like I've heard this story before.
He draws an arrow from his quiver and lays it across his bow as he says, There may be more... with a quick look around, Hell, that may be the baby. Eyes open.

Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Know: Nature - Giant Spider knowledge: 1d20 + 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (12) + (2) + 8 = 22
Like Alexander, Thaliar draws his bow and then shoots. The mounted charges were best left to Radomir. "If we can leave it's fangs intact that would be great. I really want to harvest this bastard once we're done with him."

Radomir, sadly you cannot charge as a readied action, but we can go ahead and use your roll for an attack.

The spider springs from his hidey-hole and this time lands half on half off Andreas mount and it sinks its fangs into the mounts rump.
Before it can spring back, your readied actions go off and you are able to get in some shots at it.
Alexander Orlovsky |
Round 2: Initiative 15
Active Conditions: Inspire Courage +1
Alexander readies his bow to shoot when the spider comes back out. Steady. He guides his horse with his knees to keep it from moving too much. Radomir, let's block off that exit. If it comes out again, we won't let it get far.
Shortbow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The spider leaps out again, but fails to get a grip on the backside of Soren's mount and slides back off while everyone's readied attacks put down the spider.
Eight legs flail in the air as a hoof comes down on it's body and then the giant spider lays still. The boneyard clearing is still again, for now, and with the spider's trapdoor still open, you can see that it was emerging from some kind of a tunnel rather than just a hole in the ground.
Thaliar Medevin |
With the spider dead Thaliar dismounts and moves over to it, empty flask in hand. "Now lets see if this bad boy is willing to part with some of it's venom." He kneels down next to the corpse and tries to find the fangs in the tangle of limbs before him.
Know: Nature - How to: 1d20 + 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (15) + (5) + 8 = 28
Alexander Orlovsky |
Alexander dismounts and approaches the hole, bow and arrow ready. Keep an eye out for others while Thaliar does his work. I'd hate to be surprised by a group of them. He looks over towards Andrea and her horse, Everyone alright? How's your horse doing?
If things stay quiet, Alexander stows his bow and readies his shield. Shall we explore this tunnel, then? Seems this thing has collected quite a number of bodies.
Radomir Shax |
Radomir nods and grips h is bardiche tightly. "Aye, my Lord. He dismounts, knowing there is no way he could fit Czernabog down that tunnel. I should go first, my Lord.
