It beats "It was a dark and stormy night..."
Okay,....
We join our heroes in the midst of a battle with a brace of zombie harpys in the bole of a massive and foreboding treedungeon somewhere in the trackless waste that is the Hool Marsh....
Stiggy has just clove one mightily, and mightily left his carbon footprint on the atmosphere of Oerth with a rancid beer fart in tightly knit quarters; Oso has just now endeavored in vain to turn these wretched harpies....the battle is going well, but....the dungeonmaster just called for a listen check.....a listen check that, so far, nobody has seemed to make.....
and the Mighty Gittik is up to bat, the last of our doughty crewe to swing ere the harpys seek to exact their pound of flesh....
"better?"

Oso Legumbe |

There's a bard class in Libris Mortis, if memory serves me.
Oso wakes up with his future nailed above him. Kelanen has spoken, the priest is headed for Dread.
He feels refreshed this time, not like when the fighting dream kept him restless.

<While Altai works away during the night, Stiggy strips down in the fire looking like a squat bearded sumo and begins drawing runes in the sand....>
"I kint remembah s!%@e. Tenser, gae me the collar, boy."
<Take the amulet of intelligence collar.>
"Grandpappy hoo did 'at gang. Ah kent Ah shoods hae paid mair attention. Dammit. Gyul. Gang. Siet..."
<Mumbling and sweating. He begins etching runes on the adamantine waraxe with one of the 500 gp diamonds.>

A raspy voice whispers in Stig's ear...."fooooooooothhhhhhaaaaaaark....yooooooou!!!!! Ssssso, you're a coalmooncher nae maorch, ah, Staggih....." and the runes start swimming from Stiggy's fingers...."annal nathrach.....uthvass bethad....dochyel dinveh..." Stig can of swore he smelts the canned herring his grampappy war so fond off.

Stigwold Mæch'Hæmmær |

<Stig finishes up. Hungering for herring.>
The runes are a little lacking and not used with any other classes, in fact I think the class is a little weak against the fighter without getting extra feats (just runes), but maybe Heathy will let me make up a few more runes if their power level is gauged and agreed to be about the same. They're just like spells but limited to how many he can write at any one time.
<Stig will put a +1 bonus on the silver spear that Altai makes with his magic whetstone.>
BTW, Vampire DR is defeated by Silver AND magic right?

Altai Iscarni |

That's a good idea. I like the Stig-whack thing on your character sheet. The damages are off, though - as Stig's STR is 18, base two-handed damage bonus is 4x1.5=6. Also, if your runic weapon is +1, 2-handed damage works out like this: 1d10+6(STR)+1(weapon enchantment)+14(7-point PA)=1d10+21. The bonus damage reduces 2 per point of PA dropped, to 1d10+9 for a 1-point PA.

Stig,....I downloaded it and will try to read it tonight and come up with something; probably a couple extra runes or something if not runes gained from adventure and self discovery. My printer is out of ink which is a m@!#&@&%**+$. I'll try to check it all out as soon as I can.

It's not well worded. But as I read it I only get two runes. I can't use any rune I want. In this situation I won't be choosing another rune until next level, when it'll be another lesser rune. So right now Stig has two: luck and elemental.

Yeah; definitely give him two more lesser. I might make up some more or something to gank off of in adventures, and I think his "rune point value" can come out of constitution instead of intelligence.
Makes about no sense to me for a warrior-type to have to jack around pissing away his attributes to int for something like that. So "rune point value" of 4+1=5.Ima go to the store and try to get some printer ink....wish me luck.

Two lesser runes that Monte should have included come to mind immediately and are totally within the spirit of the class:
Alarm: The runeblade is mentally warned any time a creature of tiny or larger size passes through a doorway on which this rune in inscribed, or passes within 20 feet of it when it is inscribed on a flat surface. Lasts 2 hours per runeblade level.
Call Weapon: You instantly call your runic weapon from within 25 feet/level so that it appears in your hands. You must have a hand free to use the weapon summoned. The rune is expended when triggered.

Ogay, I read it over (or glanced over the lower level stuff anyway)
and here's the final changes.
*Give Stiggy 2 more runes at level 1.
*Runes might be learned in game; haven't figured out the exact details yet. Might make up some more as I go. It sounds like it might be a smashing way to invent magical effects as I go along...
*I don't see anywhere that says you can't wear any armor when doing runes, so heavy armor's cool...
*Total Rune Value for Stigg's is going to be his level as a runeblade plus his con mod.
Stiggy also notices the runes of rest appearing on the foreheads of all his party members...
everybody is fully rested by 5 a.m., gets spells back, and ready for the day's ordeals ere the sun rises, a small gift from the visitant shade of Stigg's granpappy.
And, as soon as everybody's leveled, we can go at it.
