Hmmmm. I agree with 1 and 5 totally.
The DM centric answers revolve around your style of running a game so they give an insight into what is to come. That insight is invaluable to me.
...and Pinja is LG too. But that is because she is a team player and believer in a strong party and tribe ethic rather than adhering to every law per se - especially in Bloodcove.
Cheers

Landon's backstory is updated in his alias. If necessary, I can post it here, as well. Also, if you're looking for a bit more exposition in regard to the personal angles, just give me a yell. I should be able to cook something up.
As for why this campaign, the reason's two-fold. I've heard great things about you as a DM, which is mostly reason enough to give it a go. But the setting is also intriguing to me; I always loved the Indiana Jones movies as a kid. Not to mention Tomb Raider, King Kong, ect. I think it would be a blast to be able to take a character of mine through that same sort of plot, if I get the chance. Not to mention that I've never played a rogue, which is almost too perfect for this setting.

I'm particularly interested by this game because it looks to me like it's going to be quite character-driven and explore personal motivations and agendas a lot. That's something I've wanted to try for a long time, but haven't yet had a chance to. The idea of characters going into a campaign with personal agendas sounds really interesting to me.
Ragog Boomsparker, born to the tribe, quickly became known for his wit and ruse, and for keeping himself well-fed despite his lacking aptitude for weapons. According to some of his comrades, Ragog bore the blessings of Zogmugot, and stumbled upon luck-giving charms on the beaches of Barkchewer territory with alarming frequency, which he traded for heart meals.
So lucky his charms were that they earned him a free meal whenever he convinced a fellow goblin of their potency.
One day, as he scoured the beach for one of these lucky charms, or perhaps for a delicious crab to crack open and snack on, Ragog found himself faced with a most curious foe: A human wielding a weapon most peculiar. A long metallic tube, bearing no blade, point, or clubbing weight. The human pointed the odd item at Ragog, and it was only the goblin’s remarkable ruse that allowed him to connect the dots in his head. Recognizing a stance and demeanor not unlike that of someone aiming a crossbow, he dove for the cover of a nearby palmtree.
What resulted was, to him, a thing of beauty. The object boomed like thunder and emitted a puff of brimstone, and at once, a notch appeared in the tree’s trunk, narrowly missing him.
I must have it! Ragog thought to himself, snatching a fallen coconut and hoisting it at the man, before shouting for fellow tribesmates.
Alerted by the loud noise, several fellow warriors descended upon the gunslinger, pelting him with stones and fruit, and surrounding him with spears and stone knives. Before long, his carcass was dragged into the jungle, and his belongings divided in the traditional goblin fashion: The chief chose his favorite piece, and everyone else snatched what they could get their grubby little hands on in the middle of the brawl that inevitably broke out.
Ragog himself did not managed to seize the weapon he so desired, but instead found something infinitely better. A bull’s horn, hollowed out, and filled with a strange dark powder. He had paid the powder very little interest at first, until, just out of curiosity, he sprinkled a handful onto an open flame, and was rewarded with a satisfying blast.
He immediately poured the rest onto the flame, nearly setting himself ablaze, and sparking a life-long interest in discovering how to recreate the substance. Clever as he may have been, Ragog was not unlike his kin: Planning ahead was not his forte, and instant gratification had trumped over keeping more than bare traces of the powder to be analyzed later.
Still, almost a year later, Ragog managed to create a suitable analogue of the human’s black powder. His first test proved satisfying. His second test, of a much grander scale, blew his hut to bits and threw him across the village, to the great wonder of his fellow tribesmate.
The tribe’s chieftain, Yorga Knifelicker, felt threatened by this sudden display of power. Ragog, whose ruse and wit had by then earned him a spot as one of her advisors, now represented a serious potential threat to her rule. That very night, she accused him of stealing from the village larder and exiled him from the tribe, casting him out of the Barkchewer territories.
Ragog could probably have found another tribe and impressed them with his black powder and explosions, but he had other ideas.
I will see what other secrets the tallfolk have, and I will take these secrets for my own, like the black powder. Then, with great power, I will return to the territories, and then Yorga will get what’s coming to her!
Thus, Ragog Boomsparker found himself a member of the more dubious part of the Mwangi Expanse’s society, oftentimes dealing with the shadier parts of communities, joining in with bands of thieves willing to take more monstrous folks into their ranks, or jungle expeditions quite willing to take a risk with him, assuming he had good knowledge of the jungle.
Catching word of Dagen Bandrift’s expedition, Ragog was darkly pleased to discover that the man’s charted route cleanly traversed the Barkchewer tribe’s territory. Perhaps he might be able to use this to his advantage. If not, then he’d at least get some loot and treasure out of the deal.
Through this expedition, he could therefore chase three goals: Wealth, power, and explosions, in reverse order of importance.
I'll be updating this with a statblock when I've had a little more time to work on it, but I figured I'd post this in the meantime to show my interest.

Okay remade Zagatrill.
He is now a pure Defender / Utility type without the mount or companion.
I think I was able to change his mechanics while keeping his story and character the same.
Sounds good, and thanks for changing him to fit the game!
This is Jon Garrett's Barbarian/VMC Cavalier. I couldn't sneak in Full Plate, sadly, but otherwise I think it's good.
Oooh, flavorful. I like it, again a darker edge then some of the other players(also our first Dwarf). And a hardy melee guy, which is something we are light on. Awesome. You are on the list.
Bloodred918 wrote:We are using automatic bonus progression which means we recive half of normal wealth per level. 1500 is correct.
Also just as a heads up starting wealth at lvl 3 is 3000, if you want it to be 1500 though let me know and ill tone it down.
Thanks for answering!
@GM Mowque I've notice that Tathlan is the only Lawful character that has been submitted. Is that going to hurt my chances for having him selected? If so I will come up with a different concept that is likely to produce less intra-party conflict.
It will not effect your character. In fact, I prefer a good range of alignments in parties, it allows for multiple motives and ways to 'push' them forward.
Landon's backstory is updated in his alias. If necessary, I can post it here, as well. I always loved the Indiana Jones movies as a kid.
Sounds good and the backstory reads well. If you get picked I'll put in lots of of, "If only you spoke Hovitos..." moments! And playing a new class is always exciting

Cool, and will comment more when I see his stats! But I like the character and his direction. Always fun to have a pyro on a party.

Oooops, I forgot to include my 'why this game' section. Apologies, I finished up at about 04.30 AM GMT. I work nights, so that's not unusual for me, but it's still a bit late.
Combined with the lower population in areas like the Mwangi and all the lost civilizations, lost cities, lost treasures and lost people it feels like the perfect place for an adventure. We might not run into any of the places or things I mentioned - but then again, we might. That's half the fun.
I'm also, as you know, a fan of Wilbur Smith. I'm especially fond of River God and Seventh Scroll. And I recently watched the TV show The River which was surprisingly decent for a show that barely finished it's first season.
All told, this seems like a fun game I'd enjoy.

I have a question for my character. Are you okay with the "Tree Runner" alternate racial trait for goblins? It seems pretty in-theme and fitting for the character, so I figured I'd ask.
In trackless rain forests and marshes, it can be difficult to find dry ground to build on. Goblin tribes living in such areas have learned to live in the treetops. These goblins gain a +4 racial bonus on Acrobatics and Climb checks. This racial trait replaces skilled.

Yeah, it doesn't give a Climb Speed or anything. Just some more skill points (and acrobatics is great). Sounds good to me! Stats coming up soon?

I am interested in your campaign though I have a race request before I start going through the design process:Monkey Goblin. I have a interesting design for a Monk, interesting thing though it may feel a lot like the Monkey King, however different story concept. Zen Archer Class all 3 levels.

Hmm. So, Polyglot is the collective name of the tribal dialects spoken in Mwangi, Character is of course a Linguist and Translator, but I don't just want to give him Mwangi's language. For the sake of linguistics and a language book, would Polyglot be a language in it's own right? Or am I left to stumble around?
| GM Mowque |
Cool, so get a traveler's dictionary of polyglot to study for RP purposes. If you allow the use of ultimate campaign material I can actually learn the language from that without waiting to level up and pop a new point in linguistics.
Just the normal rules for now, you'll have to learn languages the hard way.

A quick question: I'm looking to acquire a riding/pack animal that will make sense given the character and the traditional goblin hate of horses and dogs. Would you allow a Goblin Dog, and if so, at what price? (According to the SRD, they are priced at 35gp, which is 5 gp more than a standard pony.)
EDIT: Also, similarly to Korak's question, is my character allowed to have some crafted alchemical items at the start of the campaign, or will they need to be purchased at full price or crafted during the game?

General Overview:
-------------------------
Character Name: Ramar Sturblood
Alignment: NG
Classes: Kineticist-Geokineticists | Barbarian
Character Levels: 2|1
Deity: Torag - LG Father of Creation Human, Dwarf, Gnome the forge, Protection, strategy, Artifice, Earth, Good, Law, Protection, warhammer
Homeland: DM option (Mountains)
-------------------------
Appearance:
-------------------------
Description Summary: Ramar Sturblood is a Dwarf with muddy blond hair and a torn up face as if he had gone through battle at a very young age. His skin is crackling with brown and tan earth that appears to flow and move much like natural skin but has the rough texture similar to that of a flat desert floor, a coursing surge from the active Flesh of Stone Burn. At first glance, you notice that Ramar feet almost meld with the floor that he stands on, though when he steps on a surface that isn't attached to the earth his feet become present and lacks to wear any shoes. Strapped to Ramar back is a massive hammer, the "Earthbreaker" that he can bring forth when the time of battle calls forth. Furthermore, rustic in appearance a nice Breastplate appears to be the cleanest thing on his body, but is partially covered by a torn grey shirt that is worn over the plate, even though a nicer shirt rest underneath the Breastplate. Ramar colors all display natural earth tones though the mountains seem to course through his skin in tone, with black and grey being very common among his pants and clothing. With the excessive amount mud and dirt that seems to give him a poor rustic bum appearance but he lacks the smell of a bum, smelling much like the dawn of a mountain sunrise.

Bio: In the midst of a valley, a child was born of noble blood, one worthy of nobility. Ramar Sturblood was born of a Dwarven father who was among the highest in commands of the Dwarven Stronghold. Ramar mother gave birth in the travel between village and mountains, but his mother was short lived as the caravan that contained Ramar mother was attacked. The Dwarven caravan was no match for the Orc rebels in a mass of an army. Ramar mother gave birth in the midst of battle between the Orc's and the Dwarves. The woman who served Ms. Sturblood set Ramar on the side of the ground once he was safe and breathing, she turned her attention to his mother at that moment an Orc warblade cleaved Ramar mother head in two. In a bazaar, unusually method the ground enveloped Ramar Sturblood in mud and dirt, sucking him deep into the ground away from combat.
Nearly 40 years had passed before Ramar Sturblood awakened or at least he believed that was that case. He could remember his name, skill and his rage within but was unable to recall much of his past, and his intelligence lacked much common communication with broken common and Dwarven. Ramar remembered waking at the edge of a mountain ledge, his path never went any further in the connection to the mountains; however, his rage feed on his urge to be a barbarian. Ramar went forward venturing out in to the world getting further and further away from home with little knowledge of his parents. Ramar could not explain this rage within but channeled it into a deep obsession of death and glory in battle, hidden revenge a hatred for Orcs that had no bounds of mercy, even though his guide was pure intentions.

Goblin dog will be fine and the 35gp is fine since they aren't that common in the Expanse. And full price for alchemical items.
Just confirming before changing my characters equipment. We have to pay full price for any alchemical items we crafted ourselves, even items that we could make with a take 10?
| Korak The Boisterous |
The years passed this way as he slowly increased his power and even took an apprentice named Inura Valdom, a half elven maiden of some power. Over the next two years it became apparent that Inura was not meant to wield the spells of wizards, instead her powers developed from within, she had become a sorceress. With little fanfare Harman released her from her apprenticeship, he knew he was holding her back as she desperately tried to master the written formulae of a wizard. She declared him a foolish man who would pay.
Despite this setback Mrenel had discovered he truly loved teaching and chose to devote his life to teaching and his studies. At least until Dagen Bandrift made his way out of the Mwangi Expanse laden with treasure and rubbings of an ancient language. Mrenel was quickly dispatched to examine the rubbings and see about joining Dagen in his new expedition in an attempt to win prestige for the Academy and help people remember them in a more positive light than the Carrion Golem incident.
Reasons for wanting to play, besides liking the whole theme of the campaign, getting to play a character I really want to play, and getting to step outside the usual European-centric fantasy world? No reason.

Hm. Now I'm wondering what native animal of the expanses jungle-dwelling goblins would ride, haha. If you have any suggestions, I'd like to hear them.
I'm a little curious to know the rationale behind allowing scrolls, but not alchemical items, to be crafted before the game begins. (Not that I mind, mind you.)
| GM Mowque |

Mounts-To be fair, they probably don't have any. They are poor, widely dispersed and live in the jungle. Jungle pack animals 'in real life' are essentially non-existent. That being said, a giant gecko is Medium?
Scrolls-I assumed he had taken the trait. Unless I am forgetting my crafting rules (easy to do since I have never used them) don't you need to have a trait to make scrolls, Korak?
| Ramar Sturblood |
Scrolls are a craft and you don't have to have any trait. As a wizard you get scribe scrolls for free, which is a feat. However, the cost is half and you have to have access to the spell in order to craft the scroll. Average cost for a scroll is caster level x spell level x 10g, half for scribing as the cost is market price. It is only effective at the caster level it was made at.
So scroll detail would look like this:
Scroll:Magic Missile, CL 3
| oyzar |
25gp x caster level x spell level for scrolls or 12,5gp for self crafted, not 10/5. Mundane crafting is usually 1/3 the price when crafted (or even less using unchained rules). An argument for allowing magical crafting but not mundane is that magical crafting costs a feat, which is quite a hefty investment, while mundane crafting just costs background skillpoints.

The man has nailed it on the head. That said, crafting and downtime will be small parts of this game. You'll be too busy running from dinosaurs and crazy tribesman for that.

I'm not arguing with the decision, this is the GMs call. But I feel that I have to point out that classes like the alchemist or Herb Witch really pay a lot more than background skill points for their skills.

I agree with you, since if we were not using background skills, we would probably take craft with normal skill points... paying half for some mundane items is really that broken? What about you limit the number of itens that could be crafted, or how much initial gold could be spent on crafting... this way no one gets penalized. (Just my opinion, since Olaff has no craft skills)

....are the tribesmen crazy because of the dinosaurs? I sense a plot - mind controlling velociraptors and mind flayer pterodons.
Campaign revealed...time for home and tea and cakes.
Cheers
P.S. I've liked monkey goblins ever since the first Superstar competition when they were part of the encounter round as "Monkey Goblins Attack!" by Rob McCreary. But so broken as a class, +4 Dex and no minus to a physical stat they would make an awesome rogue.
| Korak The Boisterous |
I'd allow them to craft in game similar to what a magical crafter can do, during breaks, watches and such, an arcane or divine crafter with the feat can use 4 hours a day and net 2 hours a day crafting time, (it's assumed to happen during meals, watch, etc}
Edit: Fixed sheet by adding class features Link still valid

It was such an obviously unintended consequence of the background skill rules that I actually DID use "real" skill points for my Herb Witch's profession herbalist skill. It is very clearly an adventuring skill for her.
I want to again stress that I'm not complaining or asking for a change. Its no big deal. Just finding the abstract discussion interesting

So, posting down the mechanics of my character. Arcantos for now, but as I work on the fluff I do have a small question. Is Daring Acts going to be on?
