Backstory:
Originally from Bloodcove, Landon left to see the world on his own when he came of age. His version of "seeing the world" was far closer to getting himself into all sorts of trouble, though. Trouble that involved owing more than a few people a lot of gold, the most recent of which is a member of the Sczarni crime family. Naturally, he found himself owing these people money due to the most typical of reasons: a thief and conman can only scrounge together a livelihood one way. Not that he would ever admit to being either. Rather than face his fate with honor and decorum when he ran afoul of the family, he fled just like always.
This time, he fled back home to try to start over fresh. A new face, a new name, the whole deal. And what should he so happen to find upon arriving, but an explorer who has just come back with a heaping pile of gold! How very convenient for Landon, who certainly does not want to become Eightfingers. This could give him a way out of all the people after him by paying them all back in one fell swoop. And if he happens to get rich in the process? So much the better!
Of course, this half-baked plan of his has left out all of the smaller details like actually signing on with Dagen Bandrift. And dealing with the fact that everyone he once knew probably still lives in Bloodcove even to this day. Sneaky as he is, there is no way he can evade everyone forever; whether it be his mother, Celestina Barker, or his old girlfriend, Maeve Zalarian, or even his one-time bully, Darus Morkello. Eventually, someone will notice the bright haired newcomer and make the connection. It is just a matter of time. But who knows? Maybe he can slink off into the jungle just in the nick of time. It would hardly be the first time.
