Olek seems slightly obsessed with this puzzle of a room and continues to examine the gems while talking to Jorlitharr over his shoulder.
"I like the idea of leading her back into a trap. Do you think you can out swim a dragon? Maybe we have some rope and Thravum could assist in pulling you back?"
Oleksandr Blackwind |
"What kind of trap did you have in mind?"
"Provided Jorlitharr can get the beast to chase him, and he can get back through in time, I could make the dragon think the exit of the tunnel is much longer than it is. And when she enters it starts collapsing on her."

"Good idea, after we should try to get away from the edge of the water to force it onto the stone. Depending on which direction you'd make the collapse on."

You can't seem to get the other gems out of the door. You can get your fingers around them but they are not budging.
No matter which way Jorlitharr turns, the gem he holds shines a beam towards the small sparkle in across the deep chasm. The light makes the plentiful, drippy stalactites shimmer.

Jorlitharr carefully puts the gem down and jump back in the water.

"I'll need to be able to see the dragon to cast my spell. Take this rope. We can secure an end here around the cell gates. If you use it to pull yourself back you should be able to move faster than just swimming. When I see it start to get pulled on I'll know to be ready."

Thravum Grimrock wrote:"I can go first.""Sounds like Thravum's plan is plan A, we'll call ours plan B. If you see either of us swimming back, cast your spell Oleksandr."
"Olias, any words of encouragement?"
"Good luck!" He winks. He then takes out his lute and beings to play a triumphant battle song to encourage his Dwarven friends as they march (swim) into yet another battle. You swear you hear brass instruments blaring and drums booming as he plays.

Bardic Inspiration for both Thravum and Jorlitharr.
Haven's Cross GM Molly |
Jorlitharr and Thravum dive into the water.
You surface in the middle of a sprawling lake (see battlemat). A long rope trails behind you, still with some slack in your hands.
This is a huuuuge cave! You see hundreds of lit torches on the walls are casting a rich yellow glow that dances over the natural stone walls. You see lots of huge stone statues near the walls of dwarves with armor and weapons. You also see lots of stone chests along the wall with glittering gems inlaid in the lids.
The air in the cave is hot and stuffy. You see a huge pile of stone at the edge of the lake, about twenty feet tall and twenty feet wide. You don’t see the dragon anywhere in your view.
Everyone, please place yourselves on the battlemat!

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Thravum pulls himself from the water and wrings out his beard. Looking around, he walks to the nearest chest and examines it, trying to determine if it is genuine or decorative. He positions himself so the majority of the room, including the stone pile, is in front of him- being careful not to turn his back to the room.
"If these are real, he's here for sure."

Your dwarven stone cunning tells you that yes, these are all real chest and yes, these are all real gems, armor and weaponry.
As you move around the room you hear breathing and snorting and... cooing?... coming from the stone mound.
It's so hot in here, and the heat seems to be radiating from the stone mound.
Crimsonwing |
"Your move you bastard!" he shouts loudly.
Your loud words echo across the cavernous room.
You hear a snort coming from the stone mound, then the dragon's head peers over the side. The eyes are burning bright as they stare at you bobbing in the water.

Oleksandr Blackwind |
"What do you think, Olly? Should we join them?"
"I wish we had a way of knowing what was going on."
His eyes light up
"Wait! I have a scroll I found in the manor which should help!"
He unfurls a scroll and reads through it quickly and it bursts into a plume of purple smoke.
He then whispers something into the palm of his hand. He shoves his fist into the water and points towards the tunnel.
Casts message to Jorlitharr
You can cast this spell through solid Objects if you are familiar with the target and know it is beyond the barrier. Magical Silence, 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood blocks the spell. The spell doesn't have to follow a straight line and can travel freely around corners or through openings.
Jorlitharr |
*Readied action goes off at top of round screwing up initiative order*
Jorlitharr snaps his hands towards the dragon exposing her head. A mace or suitable other small blunt weapon hurtles towards the dragon's jaw.
Catapult spell, heightened and cast at level 2. DC 14 dex save at disadvantage
Damage: 4d8 ⇒ (4, 8, 5, 5) = 22

Olias Anaran |
Olias is waiting by the water for Jorl's reply and Olek's instructions. "He keeping you on hold or something?" Olias is not sure where this anachronistic metaphor came from. Perhaps the world of Haven's Cross will be gifted with telephones in the near future?
Crimsonwing |
The dragon growls, its red eyes flashing. It shakes its head vigorously and throws the mace onto the floor out of the stone pile. It straightens, grasping the edges if the stone pile in its claws. You can now see its head, neck, and two clawed hands.
"I see you are admiring my treasure," comes a booming voice from the dragon. "MY treasure. It is mine, and mine alone." Its tongue flicks out across its long white teeth. You see a fiery glow in its throat.
"I will allow you to leave if you go right now. You will take nothing. If you do not leave immediately, I will destroy all of you."
Olias Anaran |
Olias emerges from the water, out of breath. "Thravum? Jorl? Where are you?" he whispers as loud as he dares. He takes a moment to look around the cavernous room. Nervous, he braces himself in case the dragon suddenly appears.
Olias readies a reaction.

"You stole your home like a coward, you stole your treasures like a coward and you ran from a fight like a coward. Accept your death with dignity you s$+* lizard."
Jorlitharr lifts the fallen mace as the lines etched in his foreheard shimmer.
Olias listens to Jorl's rant from afar. "Damn. Note to self. Don't anger Jorl."
Olias Anaran |
"Let's see how it handles this..." Olias casts Dissonant Whispers. All it hears in its mind is, "Crimsonwing the Coward, Crimsonwing the Coward, the Coward, Coward, Coward, Coward..."

It shakes its head vigorously, and roars.
The dragon's wings unfurl and it takes off from the stone pile, flying over the lake. It hovers twenty feet in the air, staring down at Jorlitharr.
"You know not of what you speak!" it bellows, tiny flames sparking from its mouth. "You know nothing. You speak lies. Leave this place!"
It flaps the tips of its wings so little jetties of foam kick up from the water's surface and spin around Jorlitharr and Olias. The swirling water and foam steadily draw your gaze.
Thravum Grimrock |
Seeing the dragon alight from the stone pile, Thravum reverses direction back towards the water and hurls a hand axe at the dragon from great distance.
