Male Half-Elf Level 4 Bard (AC 13; Spell DC 15)

As the claw is about to close around Olias's waist, he does a backflip out of it and lands on his feet.

"Too slow, Crabface!"

Male Half-Elf Level 4 Bard (AC 13; Spell DC 15)

Olias whispers in the direction of the monster, casting Dissonant Whispers.

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: 60 feet

Components: V

Duration: Instantaneous

You whisper a discordant melody that only one creature of your choice within range can hear, wracking it with terrible pain. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 3d6 psychic damage and must immediately use its reaction, if available, to move as far as its speed allows away from you. The creature doesn’t move into obviously dangerous ground, such as a fire or a pit. On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage and doesn’t have to move away. A deafened creature automatically succeeds on the save.

Dissonant Whisper: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5) = 14
(Spell save DC = 13)

Male Half-Elf Level 4 Bard (AC 13; Spell DC 15)

Olias hums a melody to inspire Thravum (bardic inspiration)

Florr braces herself as the crab creature attacks. Grapple check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 Grapple advantage roll: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

As the creature pinches her ribcage,
Florr's Amulet sizzles with electricity. A bolt shoots out towards the craboid to strike it. Make a DC 12 Dex check for half of: Wrath of the Storm: 2d8 ⇒ (4, 7) = 11

The Crabeast flinches away from your exploding energy but still takes some of it's impact. His skin smokes and sizzles.

Female Human Cleric/1

Florr takes a step towards Oleksandr. She mutters a couple words and a blue energy flows from her amulet.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

She then puts her arms under Oleksandr's armpits and attempts to pull him. Back ten feet away from the craboid and hopefully unlatching the tendrils so he can't do any more damage.

Florr Str Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

Oleksandr is stable and begins to come to with the sensation of floating. Looking up he sees Florr dragging him and feels the leeching tendril withdraw from his neck. *SPLURK*

As you impale it's belly, it falls to it's knees. It's featureless ruby eye stares deeply into you.

It murmurs softly to itself casts sleep.
Hit points effected by sleep: 5d8 ⇒ (5, 6, 8, 7, 8) = 34
It's arms go limp as it's eyeball oozes out of its head, it's tendril attached at the back like a long tail. The eye flies with great speed through the air to the west as its former body slumps at your feet.

Male Half-Elf Level 4 Bard (AC 13; Spell DC 15)

Olias whistles at the shell of the beast. "That... was a tough fight. How's everyone holding up? That eye thing... should we go after it or heal up?"

Male Half-Elf Level 4 Bard (AC 13; Spell DC 15)

Olias gives a helpful slap to Olek's face to wake him. "Man, you've had a rough day. Rise and shine, sleepy! The demon's dead!"

You obliterate it's eyeball. The house lays silent again, except for the gentle snores of your compatriots.

Male Human Lev 4 Wizard/Mage Armor AC16/Spell DC 14

"Gah, I'm awake, I'm awake. Get your hands off!"

Oleksandr stands up wincing.

"And don't slap Florr!"

Male Half-Elf Level 4 Bard (AC 13; Spell DC 15)

"We should go check out the basement. Should we take a short rest before exploring in case there are any hidden surprises down there?"

The basement is still filled to the top with water.

What's the plan?

Female Human Cleric/1

Florr wakes with a start. "Who's slapping who?" She shakes her head. "Let's take a short rest then get that chest! And think of ways to get it..." Florr says. "On our ships, when they got waterlogged in the lower levels, we just a bilge pump. We could try rigging one up. I've never done it but have seen it done. Or I could swim to the chest with the water breathing ring, and open it underwater and tie the contents to bags that could be pulled up. But if the chest is cursed, or something comes out of it, that could be a problem! Thoughts? "

Male Human Lev 4 Wizard/Mage Armor AC16/Spell DC 14

"Yes, I could use a short rest. I'm still in a bit of pain from that creature. I like this pump idea of yours, it seems like we'd be safer if we could stick together. What do you think we would need to get it working?"

Female Human Cleric/1

"Let's see!" Florr starts enthusiastically. "We need a long tube, and a pump to generate suction, and someone to pull the lever back and forth, and a hole in the wall to pump the water out of. Sometimes we would catch rare fish and would pump sea water into a tank in the hull so they could stay alive until we got to shore! We might find these things in the stables or look for any sheds out back! "

Male Human Lev 4 Wizard/Mage Armor AC16/Spell DC 14

Oleksandr nods in approval.
"I think I saw a well out back. Perhaps there is a pump attached to that?"

Male Half-Elf Level 4 Bard (AC 13; Spell DC 15)

"Thravum could probably rip a hole in the wall..."

Female Human Cleric/1

"Good ideas, both of you! Let's check the well, and look for any sheds with a hose. A garden hose could work, even though it's kind of small."

Olias Anaran wrote:

The basement is the foundation of the house. It's made of stone. Damaging the could cause other problems, and since it's underground, won't drain the water.

Oleksandr Blackwind wrote:

Nope, it's the ol bucket and rope design.

Florr wrote:

No intact sheds, the only structure standing is the house and stable. No hoses exist.

Male Half-Elf Level 4 Bard (AC 13; Spell DC 15)

"Let's just swim down there and open it. Worst case scenario, we swim out really quickly. Any volunteers?"

Female Human Cleric/1

"The ring is attuned to me, so if Thravum takes it before our rest he can use it to go down and open the chest." Florr says. "We can ready our weapons if needed. We could also tie a rope around Thravums waist and pull him up fast if needed. We can attach bags to ropes for him to put what he finds in the chest and we can pull those up. I'm only worried if there are any books or paper valuables in there. Though it may not have been airtight anyway." She pauses. "I wonder if it's locked? Anyone notice a key on that body of the lady?"

Male Half-Elf Level 4 Bard (AC 13; Spell DC 15)

"Let's rest first."

Olias plays Song of Rest:

Beginning at 2nd level, you can use soothing music or oration to help revitalize your wounded allies during a Short Rest. If you or any friendly creatures who can hear your performance regain hit points by spending Hit Dice at the end of the Short Rest, each of those creatures regains an extra 1d6 hit points.

"Hmmmm, what if we send someone down to tie a rope around the chest and try to pull it up? Then we could worry about how to open it out of the water."

Male Half-Elf Level 4 Bard (AC 13; Spell DC 15)

"I got a rope!"

male Mountain Dwarf Fighter 4
Oleksandr wrote:

"Aye, I'll go down there with a rope around me waist. When I get to the chest I'll give a good hard pull on the rope and you guys can start hauling me out with it. 2 or 3 pulls and you guys pull me out but be ready to kill whatever's sucking blood out of my face."

Male Human Lev 4 Wizard/Mage Armor AC16/Spell DC 14

"Take this other rope with you. Try to secure the chest with it. If you get into any trouble tug on your rope a couple times."

Getting the chest moving is rough, but Thravum digs in and gets it going. After a few minutes of hard work and a few breaks you get the chest dragged across the basement to underneath the rod. Thravum scrambles to join everyone up top and you're able to bring the chest above water and get it leaning on the floorboards. The chest is well over 1000 pounds and has a large padlock on the front.

Female Human Cleric/1

"Ohhh I've never seen a treasure chest like this. The old sea dwarves on my ship would be floored! Now for the key. Or can anyone pick it?"

Male Half-Elf Level 4 Bard (AC 13; Spell DC 15)

"I'll take a crack at it."

Olias attempts to pick the lock using his thieves' tools.

Dex check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

[dice=Dex check]d20+4

You here a satisfying *click* and a spring loaded needle juts out from the lock. The lick is opened and the needle trap disabled.

Female Human Cleric/1

"Great work!" Florr says excitedly. "Open it, open it!"

Lifting the heavy lid on of the massive reinforced chest and peering inside you see orderly stacks of platinum, gold and silver ingots and a tightly wrapped large leather scroll case.

There's also a loud screeching noise coming from deep in the chest and a pulsing orange light.

Digging around you find a square granite tile the size of a book gently flashing while it sends out its piercing tone underneath a few dozen ingots of platinum.

Knowledge arcana.

Male Human Lev 4 Wizard/Mage Armor AC16/Spell DC 14

knowledge arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

The noise stops after about 30 seconds. There an inscription on the edge that says "Alarm" in magical notation.

Female Human Cleric/1

"If we can get the cart fixed, we can load this chest up and Storm Surge can pull it back to town with us! There should be plenty here to restore the estate."

It doesnt seem like the chest took on any water. You're able to quickly count by estimation and extrapolation...

350 Lbs of Platinum in one pound ingots
150 lbs of Gold in one pound ingots
225 lbs of Silver in one pound ingots

Inside the Scrollcase: A set of keys to the house, with each key labeled. The Deed to the mansion and A picture that Olias recognizes as the ghost of Lady Adoni with a casual playful look on her face, with her arm around her husband, a relatively simple looking with a nerdy self conscious grin. There’s also a certificate of marriage. “Harrison Adoni weds Jessica Braeden, on the 21st day of Flamerule, in the year of 304 of the 8th Age.”
It was signed by an officiant: Deacon Guldar Stonearm

Looks like a single broken rear axel (does that make it a wagon, not a cart?). The resr appears in fine shape and there equipment for attaching it to a horse.

Male Human Lev 4 Wizard/Mage Armor AC16/Spell DC 14

Oleksandr takes a long look at the wagon axel, assessing where he thinks the greatest fracture is. He pulls a scroll out of Karl's book. As he reads from it the words vaporize into a smoky grey mist. He then grasps the broken axel.

attempting to use mending scroll

Luckily, the wagon is sort of toppled over onto the front good wheels so getting to the rear axel is easy. You feel a magnetic pulling as the two pieces reach each other they're fused instantly.
