Welcome to Recruitment for Hand of the Living God, my homebrew solo game. In it you will play a Razmiri agent in the River Kingdoms.
You are given one task, simple in concept but vast in execution. It is to infiltrate, undermine, and eventually overthrow that motley set of realms and help prepare the way for the rightful invasion by Thronestep. Whether you choose brute force, skillful intrigue, political blackmail, commercial strangleholds or any other manner of under-handed or violent means is up to you.
So yes, you will play a Razmiri agent, so Evil characters may apply. I will not discount other alignments but I'm looking for an aspiring agent who want to, for whatever reason, promote the Razmiri kingdom and presumably move up the ladder of Razmiran politics. I'm keeping character guidelines wide open for all those ideas that don't fit into other games. You can be as greedy, selfish and ambitious as you like! In fact, it is encouraged.
Recruitment will be open for 3 weeks, until December 17th!
See all the stuff below for more details for what I am looking for in applicants.
Razmir is the Living God, Master of the 31 Steps. His will is destiny and his whim is iron law. The world will be his dominion, but only through the efforts and struggles of his loyal and worthy followers. In this task you have been sent to the divided River Kingdoms, in order to pave the way for the expansion of Razmiran. Other kingdoms have fallen to the past to the will of the Living God, will you be as successful?
The lands facing you are diverse and full of strife. They range from the gladiatorial martial land of Tymon, the brutal dictatorship of Lambreth, the strange land of Outsea and the aristocratic Gralton. The Living God even has eyes on anarchic Daggermark, the largest city in the River Kingdoms and the druid controlled Sevenarches. Not until the whole region is united in peace and order under the true faith will your task be complete.
Levels: Starting level is 9
Stats: 20 point buy, no stat can be lower than 8 before racial modifications.
Classes: The first note is remember, you will be on your own, often in urban, social environments required to do social stuff now and then...Core, Base and Hybrid classes are all allowed.
Races: All Core races are allowed without restriction, along with tiefling and asaimars. If you try and do another race, you better have a very good concept.
Alignment: You playing an agent of an evil empire so any alignment is allowed.
Traits: Two traits of your choice, which must come from sources other than Adventure Paths.
Hit Points: Hit points will be gained at each level equal to ½ class HD +1. You will receive maximum HP for first level.
Starting Gold: ½ Standard WBL. I would advise you to leave some as liquid assets. Bribery is a great tool!
Skills: We will be using the Background skills system. You will be on your own so use these extra skills wisely!
1.You are a Razmiri agent, working to achieve great and glorious things for that kingdom. Why? What drives your character, what motivates them?
2.What is your initial scheme? What is your ‘bright’ idea to undermine the River Kingdoms? Which area, if any, will you target first and how? Be as specific as you want with you plans. Just remember, no plan survives contact with the enemy! This is the main category I am judging applicants on, their proposed plans and schemes. To be clear if you plan to start a turncoat mercenary company that doesn’t mean you can’t branch out to blackmail and rigged elections later. This first plan just gives me a feel for your character and how he intends to start out in this vast job.
3.Create a few (minor) NPCs if you want, to give your schemes a bit more solid reality. I'll be happy to work with you if you have questions!
Convince me of your plans and you are well on your way to joining this game!
-A fully finished statblock (you can hold off on minor gear if you wish). An alias is not required but if you want to make one, it won't hurt your chances.
-Some backstory, with the caveats mentioned above. I look forward to hearing about some diverse, cool and willful characters.
-A sentence on your views (hopes, wishes, doubts) of a solo game would be very interesting.
These are some optional rules this campaign will be using!
Background Skills
Automatic Bonus Progression
This is a solo game, so just you and me. That means the pace should be easy to maintain, and avoid the major pitfall of PBPs. I plan on posting at least once a day, probably more, so I hope you are too!
I am a librarian from PA (which is EST timezone). I have GM'd quite a few PBP games and a few live games. I’ve had a great experience with Solo games on this site, so I hope to add another to the pile! Mos of my other players say they greatly enjoy the Solo games and my GM style.
I am big on communication both IC and OOC so expect lots of posts in both Discussion and Gameplay!
Ok, that is everything! A lot of information, I know, but it should help you apply with the best character possible and eliminate surprises. If you have any questions, comments and such, please ask below. I will be following this thread closely, and feedback should be swift.
Again, recruitment will be open for 3 weeks, until December 17th!

I’ve GMed and Played on these boards for a few years now, and I’ve always been an active and supportive poster in every campaign. Please feel free to peruse my aliases and campaigns. If you want references, I have some excellent ones from players and GMs alike - just let me know.
As for a plan, my approach is simple. I will investigate, not the principles, but rather those who advise the principles. They’re easier to reach, and usually less protected - and less watched. As an Investigator, I’ll study them, spy on them, and discover their dirty little secrets - or invent some with forgery and bluff.
Once I have an advisor in my pocket, I’ll seek out another, and perhaps even a third depending on the task I wish them to perform (though of course they will not know who else is involved - compartmentalism and secrecy are key). In broad strokes however, the plan is to try and warm up another period of warfare and strife. Get the leaders of the various kingdoms thinking the other leaders are colluding, everyone against everyone else, and see where it goes.
Soon, if all goes well, the kingdoms will again be embroiled in war. I hope to have an even grander plan prepared by the time these smaller pieces fall into place. But the cornerstones will be blackmail and other threats tipping society into chaos from the top down.
Can you recommend some sources for Razmir and the River Kingdoms? I’d like to flesh out my background, but I’m not sure where to start other than the various Wikis.
I’ve not done a solo PbP, and must admit I’m more excited than I thought I’d be. I’ll try and get the crunch together over the weekend as I continue to mull and refine the story (more important in my opinion). Oh, for his background, is there a specific area within the River Kingdoms where I’ll begin? If it’s up to me, I’ll let you know when I’ve a better handle on the River Kingdoms. Cabaguil would have started with the weakest region - most close to war - to test his theories.
Also, what do you think about the Leadership feat? Not sure it's something he'd take (trusting only himself by and large) but as a solo campaign, it could add some needed depth. Let me know.

Razmiran doesn't have it's own book, the wiki covers it pretty well though.
As for the River Kingdoms, they have their own book Guide to the River Kingdoms. Pazio did a nice job on it. But I won't hold it against you if you only have the wiki and such to go on!
You can start out where you like.
I will say no to Leadership, we can RP your accomplices, cohorts, spies and thugs.

So as ambition and greed are encouraged can a character's long term goals involve overthrowing Razmir? Obviously that is unlikely to actually happen, but I think even if it is not within the scope of the game having such future goals would shape who the character was.
As long as the character's goals will still result in you versus the River Kingdoms for the end of extending Razmiri hegemony, then yes. I don't want a double agent though, at least not one at the start.
Also, nice to see you again Pale King.

Hia Mowque!
Placing down a dot for this.
I am thinking of creating a rogue for this, probably a Charlatan. Would you allow URogue? And whats your thoughts on skill unlocks? If I actually survive until lvl 10 it might actually be kinda useful :)
Anyways, my idea is to create a blackmailing, behind the scenes with all your dirty little secrets kind of guy. His general modus operatus is to create an information network, then use that network to put pressure on the local powers and control them through the shadows, or through blackmail and backstabbing if that is what it comes to >:)
I also imagine that the Rumormonger talent would be all kinds of useful and fun in this kind of setting!
Other things that he might dabble in would include running a crime ring, gambling den, balckmail, info broker, forgeries, gang leader. Basically becoming a crime lord ^_^
While he wouldnt be great at combat by any means (prefering to let others do the heavy lifting), he would still have Dex-to-Damage, 5d6 sneak attack, a poisoned dagger and a whole lot of goons to work with.
Not sure yet how he will tie into the Razmir, mostly because I have no idea who they are, so I will have to do some reading but that is the concept of the character :)

Howdy.
I like the skill unlocks, we will be using it.
Unchained rouge is fine, if you prefer it.
Look forward to seeing your submission.

I certainly would want any possibilities of being a double agent to come up organically through relationships rather than being the initial state, so I am perfectly fine with that. I think it is incredibly important in a sandbox game to allow for character development to take you in different directions than your character (or you as the player) originally planned. I am brainstorming a concept for a character who has a personal grudge against Razmir, but also has the ambition to want to end up on top after getting 'vengeance'. Perhaps long term goal is to conquer the River Kingdoms for Razmir, but then take Razmir's place. It still has some brewing to do. As for plans as to how to get things accomplished... I am thinking inciting the war with Galt into finally happening might give Razmiran a good chance to do a good ol' backstab and take the reigns of the River Kingdoms. Perhaps even drumming up a mercenary force to hide within the Kingdoms until the time is right?
It's nice to see another game from you Mowque! I really like the idea of these solo games, so hopefully this time I'll be able to bring a character concept to full realization. Sometimes the creative juices don't flow as well as other times.

I'm not applying since Mowque is already running me through a solo game but I just wanted to pop up and say that Mowque is a great GM. He does a lovely job of setting up his stories and the world that you play in. His posting rate is regular and high quality - whoever gets in will have an excellent game I'm sure!
I still can't convince you on the awakened golem story idea can I Mowque? ;)
| GM Mowque |
Would you be willing to wave certain class-alignment restrictions? I'm specifically thinking of the Antipaladin, which is required to be Chaotic Evil, but given the nature of this campaign, Lawful Evil might be more fitting.
If the character makes sense, I got no problem with it.

Thank you for the kind words. As for the golem...maybe next time!

OK, I have a tentative character ready for your review GM Mowque. It’s all in this alias. Feel free to PM me and I’ll share my email for easier communication if you wish. I too do a lot of ‘ooc’ communication in my campaigns.
As I’m really unsure of what you have planned, I’m not certain if my background and entry-plan dovetail into your machinations. Happy to change anything to align with the start of the campaign. I’m very flexible. I did end up downloading the River Kingdoms guide and am reading through it. As I discover new things I’ll add them to my background and plan (and let you know if there's any major change). Cabaguil is a very methodical man. He’d have done as much research as possible before going in - so I’m trying to catch up.
I’ve also selected gear, spells, skills, and even traits assuming I’m alone most of the time, perhaps with some assistant now and again, but never for long. No long term cohorts - at least at the start.
I’m keen to be selected, so please let me know if you see any rough spots, or for that matter major blights, in what I’ve built so far. I’m not very familiar with the inquisitor, but I think he’s shaping up nicely. I hope to be able to play Cabaguil in the wild.
Thanks for the consideration!
By the way, where in PA are you living? I’m from the Pittsburgh area myself, though I now reside on the west coast.

I think this is a fascinating concept, but I see two impediments:
1) There's very little known about Razmir and Razmiran. Thus, its hard to build a truly interesting, solid character, as without much to draw on, one ends up having to basically make stuff up.
2) Many of these solo games work best using the gestalt, or in some cases tri-stalt rules.
It grants the lone PC access to a lot more abilities, but due to still being restricted via action economy, doesn't end up doing *too* much a round.

1. I suppose so. Seems a shame, but I get your point.
2. I have had success with a few gestalt but really, it is about a story and fun choice, not winning fights built for more PCs. I would obviously design combats and problems to be faced by whatever character was submitted. Or not combat at all, if the PC wishes it.
Ah well. Thanks for your input, Monkeygod!

Take a look at my game for a good example, I creamed a few fights with good rolls so he's provided much harder stuff without it being completely impossible, and I'm in no way min-maxed.
I'm still interested with a vampire btw :P
