Bahboom grinds the prone skeleton against the stone floor, using his greatclub like a vicious mortar and pestle. With Talia's help, Alakhest manages to cut open a femur, revealing rotten marrow. Leira's bolt hits and skips harmlessly through the rib cage, but Umbrutari's blessed water releases the bones from whatever foul force had animated them.

Upon seeing that the undead foes are no longer a threat, Alakhest nods to Talia as he starts to move toward the prone figure at the back of the room, "Thank you for that boost, Talia." When he sees Umbru approaching as well he slows a little and adjusts his direction to provide Umbru with cover as the wayang determines if the body is a threat

Assuming the body presents no threat, Alakhest surveys the room to ensure there are no other active threats remaining. When satisfied, he looks down at his wound, "I suppose someone should probably take a look at this, when you have time."

While waiting for someone to check his wound, hopefully someone with more medical skill than himself, Alakhest rifles through the detritus in the room to see if there is anything of relevance in the room. As he searches he turns to Talia, "I know of Shelyn as a goddess of beauty, art, and love. What aspect of your goddess provided the guidance to my strike?

Once the walking dead are dealt with, then Talia turns her attention to the dead body near her feet. After a brief silent prayer, she shudders a little before going to search the corpse for any information about why it's here.

However, she's distracted by Alakhest's question. "Well, if you want to be technical about it, all and none of them. Shelyn is as committed to the protection of art, love and beauty as she is to the creation of such things. And while we who follow her aren't as martial as the followers of the Inheritor and the Dawnflower, there is a point that wielding a weapon in the name of love and beauty becomes necessary. I've seen holy knights of Shelyn wield the glaive like they're calligraphy brushes, and heard of other sisters in the faith treat their weapon as an equal in a beautiful and dangerous dance. My Lady is more then willing to help defend those of us that preform missions like this, with an easier hand with protective magics, or bend fickle fate to our favor if need be. I suppose it's more the intent then the aspect in this case."

Then, realizing that he's injured from that last combat, she blushes and reaches for the wand that she purloined from Janira's bag. "OH! I'm sorry! I get to talking and forget everything around me. I should have helped you earlier!" And with that, she taps him with the wand.

The light of the surface world above provides a welcome reprieve from the blue and green fungus of the caverns below, and the light illuminates a stream whose water is hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up the mountains. A ledge to the west rises up to the nearby forest canopy.

Janira and the minotaur suddenly appear again, obviously exhausted and still fighting each other.

"Janira!" Talia cries out, as she turns the corner back to the outside world and sees the continued battle. "Blessed Rose, please grant your aid in defending this kind soul and artist," she prays as she release one one the few spells that she was able to prepare for the day. Then, with a quick jump, she scampers forward, hoping to stay near enough to her allies to keep helping them.

Umbru quickly scans the environment, focusing especially on the minotaur and Janira, their mentor. He silently computes the distance to the pair, and frowns, worried he might not be able to reach in time to help. Nonetheless, he grabs a vial from his bandolier and quickly downs it. Almost instantaneously, Umbru's hide seem to thicken and his reflexes heightened. Lamenting to himself that the mutagen unfortunately does not quicken his pace, he races as fast as he can to the rescue.

Talia rushes forward with her allies, asking Shelyn's blessing for them. Umbrutari follows her, sloppily chugging some sort of alchemical concoction.

The minotaur cuts a huge gash in Janira's torso with his axe, then gores her with his horns. The halfling backs up and tries to lash the beast's hands with her whip.

Alakhest retrieves one of Janira's scrolls, while Talia, Umbrutari and Bahboom rush foward, and Leira nicks the minotaur with a quarrel. The monstrous humanoid takes down the halfling with one final and brutal swing, then roars at Leira.

Umbru gasps silently as he sees Janira collapses onto the ground, uncertain of her fate. However, he does not waste time calling out. Instead, he moves quickly to the edge of the river, keeping it between himself and the minotaur. He then swiftly draws a vial from his bandolier and launches it directly at the large beast!

Alakhest then focuses on his attempt to use the scroll. His eyes unfocus for a moment, like he is attempting to stare through the scroll before he refocuses and a look of frustration crosses his face. He drops the scroll in Leira's general direction, "Maybe you'll have better luck with this if the appropriate moment comes along," and pulls out a potion vial before moving closer to the conflict.

Unable to activate the scroll, Alakhest drops it and draws a small vial. Talia blesses Bahboom, and Leira hits the minotaur with a bolt of invisible energy--and Umbrutari engulfs the beast in flame. In response, the gigantic beast charges the tiny wayang and drives his horns clear through Umbrutari.

Oh actually Umbru is dead. He has -9 hp and his con is 9. It was my bad. Forgot that minataurs had reach but then again that would have been using player knowledge. Oh well. :)

As the lumbering beast charges toward him, Umbru realised that he had miscalculated. The river was not wide enough and the minotaur easily reaches across the other side. The sharp horn plunges deep into his chest and Umbru collapses onto the ground silently , leaving his life the same way he lives it.

Talia cries out in horror as she watches the minotaur pierce through Umbrutari. For a split second, the urge to run flows swiftly and strongly through her head. However, after a step back, she stamps down the fear, and grabs a flask from her bag, before reaching for the love of her goddess that helps to drive her. "We can defeat this destroyer of lives, this wrecker of beauty! Have faith and we can triumph!" She all but yells out, looking a moment at the fallen corpse of her companion.

Alakhest yells out in surprise and grief as his companion is felled by the beast, "NO!" Without time to check on him, he glances at Umbru's crumpled form unable to tell if he is dead or not. Not knowing but hoping for the best Alakhest rushes down to the log that crosses the water.

If we have a hope of surviving this we must drop that beast

Alakhest moves toward the log, taking a quick look at the wayang's body to try and figure out if his companion still breathes. Talia adds her voice to the blessing of her goddess, and Leira hits the minotaur without a glancing blow from her magic.

Seeing the minotaur fall Alakhest turns to Talia, "Talia, can you get across to check on Janira? I can go check on Umbru."

Alakhest then rushes over to Umbrutari to do what he can to help his companion. He switches which potion he is carrying as he moves there, but quickly realizes that he is too late and puts the potion away. He hangs his head for a moment before announcing to the group, It is too late for this little one.

He takes a moment to arrange Umbru's body away from the water in a position that is more stately and less crumpled. He then carefully, and as respectfully as possible, goes through Umbru's pockets searching for some indication of what deities he followed. Once he finds something, he lays Bragha over top of Umbrutari's corpse. He moves to Umbrutari's head and, being careful not to strike Umbru's corpse, kneels down plunging Narvak into the ground just above the head and speaks a small prayer, "May the light of Iomedae's holy blade guide you to the after-life, may Pharasma show justice in guiding your soul to its reward, may Qi Zhong welcome you with open arms into his house."

If Alakhest did not find any indication of which god Umbru followed he, obviously, does not include the reference to Qi Zhong.

Alakhest collects Bragh and Narvak, cleaning Narvak's blade before sheathing her and slings Bragha onto his back. He kneels back down by Umbru's body collects any of Janira's items from him as well as the alchemical items speaking to Umbru, "You property will be returned to your body or your kin if we do not need to use it and I can make it happen."

He then looks toward where Janira lays, hoping that someone has made sure she is okay.

Actions:

Heal, untrained, taking 10: 10 + 1 = 11 I am assuming an 11 is enough to tell the difference between alive and dead.

Sorry about the delay. Thursday noon to Friday around 6 is work heavy for me.

Talia doesn't need Alakhest to speak twice, before she skitters over the log and makes a beeline to Janira. On the way, she drops her glaive and pulls out Janira's wand. After performing a brief check on the halfing field agent, she taps her twice quickly with the wand, in hopes that that will get her up.

And that's when Alakhest states that Umbrutari is gone.

Talia bites back the instinct to wail and sob as Alakhest begins to preform his abbreviated funerary rites. Instead, as Alakhest finishes his prayer, Talia begins to sing a Shelynite funerary hymn. While not a trained singer, she makes up for that with the ragged sorrow in her voice.

After a couple minutes of singing, Talia finally gathers enough willpower to compose herself. She taps Bahboom with the wand and looks toward Janira. "Are you well enough to move, Janira?"

The persistent glow of the bluish fungi dimly lights the way deeper below the Kortos Mounts. The tunnels broaden to reveal a shallow river that bisects an immense tunnel stretching to the north and south. To the east a small passage exits the chamber at a steep incline.

Three small, blue-skinned creatures and a bug with hundreds of legs seem to be waiting for the Pathfinders--and not to welcome them as friends. At a gesture from the three humanoids, black mists surround everybody except Leira.

Everybody is up.

To say that Talia is despondent from the two deaths is something of an understatement. Still, they are on a mission, and as such, she has to continue. So, she stands, still weeping, and helps the others deal with the bodies, before quietly following the others back into the caves. As it begins to darken in the cave, Talia whispers a word to her glaive, and one of the ribbons begins glowing with a soft white light.

The mystical assault from the blue folk startles her out of her funk, though. She drops her glaive into a defensive position, and looks sternly at the foes, daring them to come try to attack her.

Alakhests stony demeanor nearly breaks with fear for a moment and then he shrugs off the strange magic of the little pests, "Your foul magic can not forestall Iomedae's justice."

Muttering something in Terran, Alakhest touches Narvak, his longsword, to Bahboom's club and imbues the club with power.

Terran:

"Grant it you power."

He then advances to the water line and prepares to fend off the attackers.

"These creatures have used foul magic to bring false fear into our hearts. Do not be disheartened."

Leira's shot is hurried and skips across the stone floor, while Talia and Alakhest wait for the enemy to come to her--and Bahboom charges right across the cavern and kills one of the little creatures. The remaining three all rush barbarian, although their attacks do little harm.

Alakhest, seeing that Bahboom has things well in hand and frankly worried that he will sink into the muck and be of no help to anyone, takes a moment. Swapping Narvak to his shield hand, he pulls out the vial and drains it. Tossing the vial aside and retrieving Narvak with his sword hand, Alakhest shifts out into the river, though his feet never seem to sink into the muck.
