GM Goblin King |
If Tark wants to take a swim in a mile-wide river during a thunderstorm, who am I to say no? He's on a roll!
GM Goblin King |
Oh, Tark thought it came from the lake, not the river.
Sorry. That was under a spoiler. I didn't say where it came from anywhere else.
GM Goblin King |
"Shinys shiny! Klepy want shinys!!!"
And shinies he shall have!
After finding mostly half-digested fish, amphibians, and what may have been a human, Klepy finds some untarnished human-sized chainmail armor, two rings, a gold necklace, and a steel sealed tube containing what appear to be scrolls.
Klepy |
Klepy pockets the necklace without hesitation. He also pockets the rings. "Tark! Armor shirt heres. You wants?" Klepy then looks to Valeg handing him the scroll case. "Klepy thinks this should be yours. You eatses wordss insides?"
The Necklace and rings are now in Klepy's Emergency Stash. Unless folks wanna fight him for them. BRING IT!
GM Goblin King |
The armor is human sized and nothing special, the jewelry is nice, but not magical, and the scroll case is plain, but sturdy and obviously waterproof (and digestive acid-proof).
The 12 scrolls are divine, and after magical perusal, are revealed to hold the following spells, all at 3rd caster level:
4 CLW, 2 CMW, Comprehend languages, Remove paralysis, Remove fear, Summon monster 1, Detect evil and Spiritual weapon.
Velag Wordeater |
Velag nods, "Me inspect, see if it need eating..."
After looking through the scrollcase, Velag says, "It pictures, not writing. Them pictures make godses like us. Me keeps."
He clips the scrollcase onto his belt.
GM Goblin King |
Tark might want to go ahead and bash the heads now. They're pretty big, and will take up a lot of storage space. lol
Hey, it's not like there won't be any more. Not an hour later, you encounter some more immature boggards coming up out of the river, accompanied by 2 adults in hide armor and light wooden shields. There really is an infestation around here!
They see you and scramble towards some swampy muck across the trail, moving through it like it was solid ground, and while you can't understand them, they appear to be taunting you.
There are 12 young ones close to you (100' away, half of it swamp and bushes, providing cover), and 2 adults behind them. A very rough map:

Bucko Rackingclaw |
"Humans stoopid, gnome stupid but tasty, 5 head beast sttopids, but
Boggards most stupidests."
"I sick o bog-gards!"
Makes shooing motions at the boggards
Yells at them
"Go away boggards swamp goblin empire!"
GM Goblin King |
Seeing your reaction, the boggards start moving away, making a common finger gesture (which is strange, since amphibian genitalia is so different from that of mammals).
Tark Bashflat |
If the heads are that big, then Tark would only take one back to village.
Tark hates the mucky swamp and knows Fangz would too. Tark fights his burning desire to charge the group.
"Me know way to find their village. We make dem run dere! This muck make it easy to track dem."
While seated on Fangz, Tark slings his maul and pulls out his bow. "Me need practise wit dis anyweyz."
Tark takes aim at one of the adults.
Shortbow (-2 range increment): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
GM Goblin King |
They move on into the muck and cover and duck and cover. One adult casts a spell after extracting Tark's arrow from the one he shot, and they also disappear into the gooey, icky marsh.
GM Goblin King |
Heal Tark if you want. You'll probably want to retroactively. The tale must go on!
Other than seeing sets of boggard tracks heading from the river to the north a couple of times as you travel, nothing interesting happens the rest of the day.
It's getting dark as you approach the area your map indicates as the crossing point, which is strange because the river is still plenty wide, and no means of crossing it is apparent.
Without warning, you hear shouting in a tongue you don't recognize, as well as croaky language that sounds like the boggards you've already heard. There is the noise of a battle intermingled with the roar of churning water.
It's just around the bend, on the other side of those trees blocking your line of sight 100 yards or so away.
Bucko:
Velag Wordeater |
Velag says, "Them not good eats, but if kill all froggies - little ones too -- could solve problem for long time. Think that for next time..."
Velag uses one of the new Cure Light scrolls on Tark: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
skipping ahead...
Velag says, "We stop, me and Klepy go take lookses find out what fight be... then we come backses and makes plan.. Anyone know what them croaking?"
Stealth: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (16) + 21 = 37
Bucko Rackingclaw |
"Someone fights boggard brains, we goes an helps thems kills boggards. Goblins needs friends fer get tark magic big hammers."
Rides ahead towards the battle!
will stop prior to melee range!
Tark Bashflat |
"Tark nods his approval at Bucko's words and races ahead of him to lead the group into the fray."
As Tark rides past Bucko, he mutters quietly, "Dem two not steali my trophies!"
Trying to catch their opponents unaware is still always a good plan though, so Tark will try to make a reasonable attempt at a stealth approach on Fangz.
Tark Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24
Fangz Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Klepy |
Frickin sickness isnt gone yet and it came back with a vengeance today. I was in bed all freakin day. I am so tired of being sick amd getting nothing done.
Klepy nods. "Yes Klepy likes da sneakies. We sneak!"
Klepy follows Valeg to be sneaky and spy on froggies
Stealth:1d20 + 23 ⇒ (4) + 23 = 27
Perception:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Velag Wordeater |
Velag mutters a curse under his breath, "Tark be death of usses.."
He moves swiftly (though stealthily) through the brush trying to keep up.
GM Goblin King |
You ride up to the trees with no worries about being noticed. A couple of you dismount and sneak through the foliage to get a look.
You see a massive melee going on. There is a wooden pier of sorts, 30x20', at the river bank, and a horde of lizardfolk and boggards slugging it out. A couple of the boggards do their 'terrifying croak" thing, weakening some of the lizzies, and two of them sit at the end of the pier, wearing chain shirts and shields, directing the mixed crew of immature and adult boggards, some of whom are hopping around with incredible speed and beating the snot out of the outnumbered lizardfolk, with plenty of casualties already on both sides. It looks like the boggards are attacking from the river, and there are still a few coming up out of the water.
The most noticeable thing is the boggard who's flying around just above the pier. He's got a dancing lights spell up, and is using a flaming sphere to roast lizardfolk. The arrows that a couple of the lizardmen at the back of the line are firing at him seem to do him no harm at all.
There are probably 30-40 creatures fighting, total, but they're dying on both sides. You can remount and be there in 3 rounds if you don't pre-buff. Longer, if you do.
Or, you can wait 'til it's over and the boggards are victorious and start collecting heads and eating corpses.
Klepy |
Klepy lets an evil grin spead across his ugly face as a truly nasty and fun idea comes into his thick head. He then sneaks.
Stealth:1d20 + 23 ⇒ (18) + 23 = 41
Klepy will attempt to sneak up on the two frogs standing on the pier. He gets to a safe hidden knife throwing position behind them.
P.S. Klepy always dismounts for anything but long distance travel. Also I will post my next actions in two hours after class is over.
Tark Bashflat |
Tark stares up into the sky and mutters, "me hate magic froggies! Me hope one of you gobo's can hurt him, 'cause me think me arrows not going to hurt him either."
With that, Tark attempts snaps the reigns and guides Fangz quickly forward through the chaos of the battlefield. There are only 3 worthy opponents that Tark can see, and only 2 that he can reach. To the pier it is!
"HARRRUUUUU!"
GM Goblin King |
I don't want to tell you what to do, but you did pick up some nice items from the humies you murdered yesterday...
Tark charges into the fray, provoking an AO from one of the boggards still in the water at the edge of the pier, and takes 7 damage. A lizardfolk takes a swipe at him, too, not knowing which side he's on, but misses. He'll have to pause at the end of the pier to clear his way: An adult boggard is in his path.

Actually planning to "pin" that on the Boggards ;)
Velag Wordeater |
Velag sighs again, and moves up carefully, keeping himself hidden as he prepares himself magically.
Him not a very good goblin. We s'posed to let them hurt selves while we get ready and hit weak ones. Maybe him sick when them teaches tactics?
As he's sighing, he calls down the aid of the Gods on himself, casting Divine Favour
Velag Wordeater |
I don't want to tell you what to do, but you did pick up some nice items from the humies you murdered yesterday...
Not murder! Hunting! Plus, Gnome had bestest things.... Still, it would be fun to dispel the flying Boggard's flight. :)
GM Goblin King |
I dont know what to do. Did Klepy get close enough to the shield frogs to even do anything? Just curious. I'll take my actions once I know where I am.
That was a great stealth check, but the area is pretty open. You could try hiding in the water and moving slowly that way to get closer, or just go flank with Velag.
I'm not sure who's got what, but you have some medium weapons that could be used by someone big enough.
GM Goblin King |
Zee boggard. She ees dead.
The lizardfolk on the other side of it glances back, seemingly surprised to see a goblin on wolfback, and returns to its own melee situation. The closest big bad is at the end of the pier.
Klepy is on foot, and can't really hide from anyone. He's close enough to the battle he could help a lizardfolk flank, but there's nowhere to hide.
The shielded, better amored boggards approach Tark. Both can reach him this round and attack. The first one swings and connects with Fangz for 8 damage. The second hits Tark with uncanny speed, doing 13 more! That's 20 so far, gobbies! Ouch!
Velag, Klepy and Bucko are all close enough to get busy in the 1st round (1st round for you guys).
Edited due to a screw-up. Someday, I'm gonna be a GM!
Klepy |
Depending on location Klepy will charge one of the shielded frogs or attempt to flank with Tark as they are attacking him. Either way Klepy gets sneak damage :D
Attack 1:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 For:1d3 + 2d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + (1, 3) + 1 = 7
Attack 2:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 For:1d3 + 2d8 ⇒ (3) + (8, 8) = 19
2 Bleed damage for each hit.
Technically in some situations the heat of battle is cover in of itself but that is for each individual GM to decide. I will conform to your interpretation.
GM Goblin King |
There is one you can flank with Tark, Klepy. An immature one that dies instantly as the one next to it takes an AO and misses you.
You are now 5' from the bank in the water. The one that took the AO is right in front of the pier, preventing you from climbing up onto it to flank one of the big armored ones with Tark. You're in water almost up to your neck.
Bucko's daze attempt does nothing.
Both he and Velag are close enough to get attacked (within 30 of some boggards), but it looks like the big folks are plenty busy at the moment.

He rushes out, carefully, drawing his swords as he does, putting himself in a flanking position with his swords, he says loudly, "Hello Froggies! Me here to kill lotses of yous!"
