Ok, how about we adopt a policy where we aggregate value and if someone takes an item of significant value it comes out of present and future gold share. So say Chef wants the ring, it costs him a 12k share of the pot. Thus any gold which comes from current and future treasure until he makes up the value of the item.
(actually the formula would have to be a bit more complicated if adopted to discount their share from the item cost)

Ok, so one detail, does the gold machine spit out 1/2 GP value of the items? Did anyone notice?
Our aggregate value from the Orc (without halving) is 40428.
If halved, then 20214
If we assume the gold value is halved then the ring value is also halves, and thus only costs 6k worth of share.
So the aggregate pot after gold machine leaving out the ring (and the named potions, and the scroll of TP since those are not a good idea to skip) 14214. Split this 5 ways and everyone's share is 2842 (except Chef who got the ring instead). He still owes the pot 3158.
Now I have not ascribed the claimed potion values to people or the +3 cloak of resistance we found earlier. I'm not really inclined to have to go back and do all that math (and I'm always unhappy with retroactive rules).
Ignore the past hauls and the current payout/debt is ok with me. I'm willing to toss the ring to anyone who needs fire protection when we inevitably meet a dragon.
with the 2842 from this time and the 2048gp he got from the last division, he has enough to pay for a half-price improvement of enchantment on his +1 weapon and his +1 armor
+1 weapon to +2 is a 6k difference, halved is 3k
+1 armor to +2 armor is a 3k difference, halved is 1.5k
3k + 1.5k = 4.5k
he has 4.8k
Yuri will have the dwarves add 'seeking' to his bow for 3k.
Anhur will have the dwarves add acid to one cestus and frost to another.
actually i still need to level up, they are trying to cram a week's worth of work into two days at my job so i have been swamped. tomorrow is my "friday" though, so i should have time to level up. not much will change for Floid other than getting 4th level powers.
