Toramin is only sort of judging the half orc for abandoning control of the window. He had one job. :-p

Ianna Trealamhgabha wrote:

Just an FYI, brought on by all the incanting going on.

There are a lot of different styles on display. I play divine magic as invocation, and I wanted people to have the right interpretive framework.

Ah, gotcha.

I use a draconic translator for all my incantations. Sometimes I have to use synonyms for words because the dictionary there isn't complete, but I really like the words it comes up with.

Toramin wrote:

Indeed!

I am trying to get much better about all of Toramin's AoOs; it can be difficult in PbP.

Toramin wrote:

Yeah, but he decided that the squishy backliners probably needed his help. Especially considering that Toramin seems to be handling himself just fine. If it makes you feel any better his presence did cause one of the spellcasters to lose her spell!

Oh my god, I just realized I've been totally doing the DCs for identifying spells wrong. I've been using the DC to cast them defensively, not the DC to identify them. Those most recent DCs should be 19, 20, and 18. Apologies.

What is the movement rate of that human priest? He was ten feet into the mist (which counts for 20), and the made it next to the gnome? He must be booking it since he took an action to dismiss a spell and cannot double move.

Do you not distinguish between divine and arcane when it comes to style?

30. It took all of his movement to get that close, even with a diagonal move.

For strictly the incantations, no. Unless the spell calls for something special. For example, ear piercing scream. No incantation with that one, just screaming.

Can a standard paladin tell if they are hitting an outsider, dragon, or whatever with a smite?

Can Toramin tell if he is getting a bigger sacred armor bonus from the same?

I would say that no, you do not automatically know. You do know if your smite was successful or not (such as if you tried to smite a non-evil target, you would know when you tried to attack), but I don't think you automatically get that knowledge.

Rest assured, whether you are getting the bonuses or not, I am keeping track of it behind the screen.

Bjorkus, if you want to move at full speed through the mist, you must make an acrobatics check. Otherwise you cannot get close enough to the bartender this turn.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

Cool, I believe you. Sometimes you are bad at remembering to apply the siblings' bonus on saving throws (for example against the sticky spell), but you are getting better about it. So I believe you are trying to keep things in order.

Omen, you haven't been accounting for the speed bonus to movement from haste. Bjorkus could easily make it there.

Ianna could have made it closer to Rilka.

Ah, indeed!

Hey, I blame everybody for that. I have the battle tracking spoiler there for everybody :P

Ianna, are you doing anything besides moving?

Expect an update tomorrow afternoon, in about 10 hours or so.

Nope. No healing or buffing needed.

Reminds me of my WotW group back home.

WotW Book 3 minor spoilers:
The party was in a war zone with a dozen fights back to back. About halfway through the wizard realized how stretched he was going to be, so half the time when I asked for his actions his response was "I conserve resources."

Apparently there is a new Investigator archetype in the new Ultimate Intrigue called the Cipher that is so forgettable that you need to make Perception checks during battle to remember they exist.

A). That sounds really cool. It reminds me of occultation from Mage: The Ascension.

B) Perfect for an Aestheric spy.

That sounds hilarious! Too bad it's not on the PFSRD yet.

Battle update coming soon.

Omen, I added a file to the drop box folder that I previously shared with you. It has my new favorite Mystery: Shadow. It hasn't been posted yet to the d20 website.

If Toramin ever dies (Torag forbid), I would love to try out a Wayang Oracle with this Mystery. It looks super fun.

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I've ever used my drop box account.

Well if it comes to that, but as the tank you're probably the least likely person to die.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

Toramin is built to last. The only time I ever thought I was going to die in a blaze of glory was during the fight with Acera and that obscene undead gunslinger.

(I didn't actually think I would die the time I actually did. Too many lucky crits.)

Yeah, he was fun. I basically scaled down a pale stranger. I also had a ton of fun with Acera's build. I've never made a tank mage before. Combining defensive and life-absorbing spells made for a very unique enemy.

Was the guy that smashed a chair into Bjorkus (awesome by the way) the same one that Ianna was talking down?

No, but they were both bartending.

Yeah, we have a tendency to end up in fights way above our pay-grade. (Though usually they are fun and scary.) The Acera fight being particularly rough. I don't even want to imagine the CR for this fight, since from the spell casting, our numerous opponents seem around 7-8 level.

I have really enjoyed seeing a variety of classes on display in this fight.

I don't even know what the female bartender is. She is casting druid spells and dimension door -- that's a spell list I'm unfamiliar with. Unless she is a student of Old-Mage Jatembe

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Did he look like he was standing down when Ianna started talking to his boss?

There are a few choice people at that level, the more important individuals.

Doesn't even look like he knows what the hell is going on. The vast majority of the battle is obscured from him.

Skills:
Appraise +21, Bluff/Diplomacy +16, Fly +15, Know(Arcana/planes) +21, Know(other) +11, Perception +2, Sense Motive +0, Spellcraft +27
Defenses:
AC 11/11/10 HP 68/68 / F +6 R +5 W +9 (+2 vs. Enchantments) / Init. +2
Spells:
DC = 17 + lvl. (+2 if transmutation) (+1 if on Druid list)

I must say, you are better than most GMs I've had with combat variety; the majority seem to toss a scrum of fighters/rogues at you, and the other classes only make an appearance when a noteworthy NPC is involved as one of them. This isn't the case here, and I like that.

Thanks!

Dalton, I think it was the human priest who spell crashed you.

On second thought, I agree with you. The gameplay post has been edited to reflect this.

To expedite things, Ianna's knowledge check is sufficient to know the parameters of the spell. Circle against/dispel evil would be useful.

I really don't understand why that spell is considered more evil than other harmful spells. Grosser, certainly.

Bjorkus wrote:

Neither, the fight ended with the agreement of both sides, so I assumed you didn't throw a punch at somebody your group just agreed to stop fighting.. If that isn't the case I can retcon it.

I'll take that as giving up!

Also he would have taken those hits in stride and started smashing you back, duel wielding bar stools.

Theoretically there is the gnome alchemist, the crossbow man, the hobgoblin, the orc, and our two gnome prisoners.

Nope. This fight was complicated enough without me handing out magic items to everybody. Only the important people got those, and all of those people are either gone or the bartenders.

Readied actions occur before the actions that triggered them. The blonde gnome looked like he was going to attack, then Rilka shot him, then he attacked. The bartenders did not notice him draw the dagger, but they sure as hell noticed a gun going off.

Bah! The one time NPCs aren't super perceptive.

Did the old pirate ignore Bjorkus?

That guy needs to roll for Improved Sanctuary before he touches Ianna.

I'm not a big fan of these npcs doing things without us having a chance to respond. Toramin is very sensitive about his sister. If that pirate starts moving towards her a fight might start again.

Basically. He's being a royal a#%@#%* right now.

I mean, I didn't do any time skips. If you want to stop him, just say so.

It's a little sad that the guy just ignores Bjorkus. It's an odd detail to include if the only person who would care cannot use it as a way to engage in the narrative.

He decided that there were more important things to handle at the moment, such as keeping any more 'business' from going down in his bar.

Be persistent! Ignoring one comment doesn't mean he's deaf to you!

Stay determined!

Rilka, I just want to apologize to you in advance.

Since October of last year, we have been unable to make any headway in our investigation into Calios despite trying many leads and making many skill checks. Given this track record of incompetence and frustration, I don't hold out much hope of us being able to rescue you no matter that we have at least one name of your captors. The criminal element in this town is awe inspiring in their reach and ability to cover their tracks.

Hopefully, this is the kind of story where the damsel in distress can rescue herself. We will definitely look for you, but we probably won't find you.

Going forward, should I assume the Aestherics are equipping us as necessary (as WBL) or should I continue cataloging the loot we're acquiring while we're on missions?

If we're sticking to the former, cataloging stuff beyond what's immediately useful is less important.

Did the blonde crossbownman's alchemist friend have no loot either?

@Bjorkus - My general rule of thumb is "Have them handle loot, and if at any point they get significantly under WBL, bump them up".

@Ianna - Nope. Masterwork armor. Alchemist had enough options without adding magical gear. You should have seen the 20~30 pages I had open every time I did a combat post.
