Game Master Kobolum

Guilty. You are a lawbreaker – the worst of the worst. Too dangerous to live amongst the good people of Talingarde, they dragged you in chains before a magistrate and condemned you. They sent you to the worst prison in the land and there they forever marked you. They held you down and branded you with a runic F. You are forsaken. You won’t be at Branderscar Prison for long. Branderscar is only a holding pen. In three days – justice comes. In three days – everything ends.

What a pity. If only there was a way out of this stinking rat-hole. If only there was a way to escape. If only…

No. No one has ever escaped from Branderscar Prison. This is where your story ends.

For what must be the thousanth time, Herand pulls against the chains that bind him but they do not budge. "Take me! I am the one you seek. " he says to nobody in particular. I just need a small opening and I will be able to make an escape, he thinks. Perhaps if they ever feed us, that will be the time to strike. I should have at least a fork to use. Well, a fork and some power from the beyond.

As time passes Herand does what he can to observe the changing of the guards, hoping to find a pattern that he can use to his advantage.

This is Silver Fang's character, thanks for letting me apply. Herand's background, crime, and most of the mechanics of the character are done. You can see them all in the details of this alias. I will likely continue to make small adjustments and double-check my work until the 18th but all of the major part of the character are in place and shouldn't change noticeably.

I don't have a big history of posting here but I've lost my RL group and want to keep playing. My goal is 2 posts a day, once early and once late EST.

One more week before applications close.

Silver Crusade

Late Submission! Gnome Unchained Rogue(Knife Master), aiming for the Assassin Prestige Class.

STR: 1d10 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 - 1 = 12
DEX: Focus 18
CON: 1d10 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 1 = 12
INT: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
WIS: Foible 8
CHA: 1d10 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 = 16

Will have crunch and background momentarily.

The red haired gnome sighed to herself as she lay face down on the cold stone floor of her cell, right where the guards had thrown her hours before. Now we've gone and done it, haven't we? 'Make it more of a challenge!' we said, 'Something better guarded!'. Well, now look at us. We're going to have to be more... methodical, in the future. If we get out of here, that is.

This is Alis, former(and hopefully future) serial killer, submission of MattZ. She has been sent to Branderscar not for how important her victims were, but how many. Quantity over quality, basically.

Is there any starting gear, or are we going to have to find stuff?

Dark Archive

I have a quick question: would a Vigilante be up for grabs, Because I'm thinking of making a Cabalist however I know that Vigilante don't fit in every type of game...

Chained to the wall, shackled together, wearing nothing but the tatters of what you had on when you were caught. I'd apply with Hel, but she's already in Phntm888's game.

Focus:Int -18
Foil: Wis-8
Str1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Con1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Dex1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Cha1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Oof... Well I guess I'll have to deal with that hit to str and con..

Even if that's a 24 point build... Hmm I might just go for the 25 point build...

With 25 points I can buy 16,16,14,12,10,8 and get much nicer stats, so that's what I'm doing.

Also this is William here with the vigilante I'm making, and Just FYI I'm not going for the whole Social identity thing, mostly I just want the Vigilante form. So I'm not taking the fame talents.

A mass of flesh hangs from the chains, seemingly too big to chain, but they managed. Even as blood drips from the edges, the gross mass tilts his head up and looks around. Ah well, such ends the flesh, if only that priest wasn't so nosy he would still be alive. He looks down. A last meal would be nice, and if only I could stand by the well once again.

Apparently the serial killer role is quite popular.

Not a criticism, just curious 'Alis', how you are compensate for the 8 Int on the death attack? Or are you going into Assassin for the other abilities?

Glad you asked (it's about time someone did), I will accept a vigilante application but that doesn't make it an easy choice for this game.

You're not allowed to switch to point buy if you don't like your rolls, that's the point of rolling, risking the fact that you may get a bad roll over a good point buy.

For anybody who intends to submit an application and has yet to do so, I recommend going to look at the comment posted by Doomed Hero in page 2.

O_0

Well I think it would be nice to at least rearrange my rolls, Because frankly a melee fighter with no con is as useful as a Knight made of tissue paper, and sure I could go for ranged or do a completely different class, but I really like the concept I have in mind. My only other option is to boost the heck out of my AC to avoid getting hit. Frankly that isn't the best option for a class that can't use heavier armors, as they too do get hit.

Also, to explain my concept I was thinking if making a Kyton-like Character who uses chain whips
Now with the stats that I'm stuck with I guess I'll take combat expertise as my first feat to give me that boost to AC.

This is Horus's social identity, and the alias i will be using when in it all the stats are still in the black hand, Just the main background (for the social identity) will be on this alias.

The beggar in the cell grips the bars, I swear! It's all lies! I did nothing wrong, I follow the same tenets as everyone else in this town, sticking me I get with these criminals is unethical! he cries out, hoping a gaurd will hear him

Horus is a heretic, and always has been. I'm planning on playing his social identity as a simple beggar/faceless commoner. Those who see him think nothing of it, however his Vigilante identity is quite the opposite, when you see the black hand you know... Death is apon you.

Because of his cripplingly low Wis I'm also planning on playing him as slightly unhinged, Blurring the lines of his two identies, as if one doesn't even know the other exists. An Interesting play on multi-personality disorder

Horus "The Black Hand" If you read the thread, even just for my post, on questions that were brought up and answered you would see that the rolls themselves can be rearranged. I'm normally fine with repeating information but considering that this is a text-based format and it hasn't been that long since the information was put up means that I should not have to be restating answers to questions I've already answered. Also I don't need a step-by-step breakdown of how you're going to build your character and why.

Silver Crusade

In my other post, I was trying to put my racial modifiers into the rolls, but I don't know why I put only +/- 1 instead of 2.

Saashaa wrote:

GM says we can rearrange rolls, so I'll swap STR with INT

Corrected stats:
1+7-2= 6 STR
Focus= 18 DEX
4+7+2= 13 CON
6+7= 13 INT
Foible= 8 WIS
8+7+2= 17 CHA

Didn't realize we could shift stats; made a few changes of my own - mostly physical to mental stats (Charisma and Constitution mainly)

Yas392 here. Late submission but here is Taldran, a former Mitra cleric in training converted to Asmodean faith. I am going to include his appearance, statblock and personality in an hour.

Background:
Even the brightest light is easily tainted. Like the angels who fell from prolonged exposure with the forces of hell, Taldran was no exception. Orphaned and adopted by a priest of Mitra, he was priest in training on the right course on becoming an exemplar of what the faithful of the Shining Lord should be. That did not happened. Instead of a promising future in the service of Mitra, Taldran was denied that.

One day was all it took to change everything. Taldran finished assisting his superior in a daily ceremony in the church and was heading home when he heard mutterings from the locals defaming Mitra. Mouths were silenced in an instant the moment Taldran interjected himself into the conversation and admonished them about the greatness of his god though that act planted doubt on his mind for the very first time.

From then on, his doubts of his god grew with each dissenter he faced and eyes opened. In the light of this, Taldran discussed the affairs of disquiet in various city states he visited with his brothers to quiet his doubts. It was always answered by an abrupt “it was Mitra's will.” The straight response further weakened Taldran's faith towards Mitra. At the height of hesitation, he unintentionally allowed a defamer of Mitra to evade capture. He was punished and given a stern warning.

The final straw that complete the road of abandoning his patron god was attending a secret gathering to recruit individuals who aspired to convert to and serve the Asmodean faith. It was organized by an amicable plump male human unbeknownst to the masses, a disguised devil sent by Asmodeus himself to rebuild his power base that he lost when King Markadian I dominated the isle and established Mitra as the central religion. The same who enticed Taldran with well-placed words to lure him to the meeting, taking advantage of his weakened resolve to Mitra.

By the end of the meeting, Taldran was eager to join the ranks of Asmodeus after he was impressed by the speech by the spokesperson about flaws of the kingdom delivered with the glibness that lured him into this gathering. Just as everyone was about to disperse into the crowd, militants of the church burst in and round up the aspirants including himself with the recruited nowhere to be seen after trailing Taldran due to his late suspicious behaviour. As his proceeding started in court, those who were closest to him interrogate about his immorality. Correcting them and declaring himself a follower of Asmodeus to all spectators during the sentences, he was charged with blasphemy and was condemned to burning on the stake in Brandescar Prison in 3 days time. As his punishment was announced, Taldran laughs as he was dragged all the way to prison.

Profile updated. Should be complete.

Oh, I'm sorry, it's just because I was a late entry I sorta took the TLDR route and skimmed everything, looking for what seemed important.

I so do wish to apply to this game... I'll make some quick adjustments then...

Tick tock! Last minute submissions and adjustments need to be made soon.

AHHHH. Just saw this. Is there still time. Tell me I have at least two hours.

You have a little more than 3 hours.

Thank you! Be done in two.

If there is still time

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Dark Archive

Here's the basics

Dark Archive

Lucia Remembers little of her early years Only that she was raised in a brothel in the far off land of Skexar. Where Talingarde is a kind and benevolent place Skexar was not. Her Master, A half fiend woman named Clove told her she was raised in a brothel, left there by her mother when she die in child birth. Clove saw in her great power and unimaginable intelligence and spirited her away from that horrid place. Only to bring her to a more horrid one. A sex slave house owned by Clove. Over the years Lucia learned her craft from this unholy woman but she also learned of the darkness in the world at her hands. The years of abuse darkened her soul. Asmodeous like Clove but only because it serves her interests. Clove eventually trusted her enough to send her on an important mission. She was to purchase a few poor farmers daughters in Talingarde. All was going well until a small army of paladins captured her and her crew before they could leave with their "goods". Now branded she faces a beheading. But she does not fear what ever evils await her in hell will be but a dream compared to the rest of her life.

Dark Archive

I wish I had more time but my computer went all to hell. I had to restart twice. I will touch up my profile but I won't change anything. I just want to add some bold type that I didn't have time for and put my depressingly short background into a spoiler.

Well due to bad weather on my end I accidentally gave more time than intended. But with that said, applications closed!

Now the wait for selections. Good luck, everyone!

Dark Archive

Good luck to all.

Or more appropriate to the campaign. For the mere cost of your soul I'll bow out. Interested?

Lucia tents her fingers as she smiles wickedly.

Ohohohoho I do not think you will find mine tasty

"Already taken."

Herand looks up at the conversation around him. "Careful, " he says just above a whisper, "lest you get the attention of the jailor. He was none to gentle with me." Unless that is their plan, he thinks.

Just stopping by to check on things. See you all soon, I hope!

I got a counter offer for you...instead of my soul, how about your get to enjoy one of my fine stews instead of being in one.

Looking forward to seeing who makes it in.

Well I finished reading everyone submissions, got some great ones, some that weren't so great, and some that decided to drop out, disappointingly. But they're all worth looking over and I'm glad I did. But I haven't chosen who I'm going to accept into the campaign yet.

Everyone I'm going to allow you the time until I make a post deciding who I accept in the campaign once and for all to make any adjustments to your characters or backgrounds that you see fit. If you do make any changes you need to notify me of them. I'm giving you this time because of the two reasons down below. You have somewhere around 24 hours, ish.

MazzT: You did not finish your character, you gave me a stat block but not a background.

Hel_Blackfist: Your post is confusing. Are you submitting a character? Are you not? Are you submitting Hal?

Dark Archive

Yes, Thank you. My background needed beefing up but I just didn't have the time.

Hopefully, I qualify as a great submission.

I made a few spelling and grammar updates to my background and the tale of my crime but nothing that I would consider to meaningfully change my background or general motivations.

Good luck to all.

Changes I made to Baolo Tizden listed below:

Exchanged Power Attack for Intimidating Prowess
Swapped Con and Dex with all relevant changes to stats made. I see Baolo as more lumbering, than light-footed, final stat array after racial modifiers is:

Str 18
Dex 11
Con 15
Int 8
Wis 12
Cha 13

Dark Archive

Hi again. Just added spells memorized, a skills list (I like to be precise when it comes to skills), and a potential familiar. (If we get a chance to get one). Fixed my skills (really messed that up). Added to my Background and added a personality and appearance.

Dark Archive

Also added the Witches class features just for completeness.

It took two hours of consideration and over one hour of talking into a microphone and then spell checking everything that came out from the talk to text translator but it's done.

I know it's kind of an unspoken rule that you shouldn't tell anyone why they didn't make the cut but I say screw that it's my campaign recruitment.

The character I would have accepted had he not dropped out:

Grorn Dimslag LE dwarf Cleric of Norgorber

The honorable mentions from best to not best. Sorry guys you just didn't make the cut:

Herand of the Moor Male human Magus (Hexcrafter). You were so close!

Darven Male Human LE Antipaladin (Tyrant, Dread Vanguard). You were very close as well but you did go openly preaching in an anti-Asmodeus Kingdom.

LE Human Cleric (Unholy Barrister) of Asmodeus. I loved your submission and there was a lot I could have done with it.

Erick the Strangler NE human Brawler (strangler). Keep Eric the Strangler on hand, I love his characte.

Topper Unchained NE human Rogue (Knife Master). I really felt the life you've bereaved into the character, another time in another campaign.

John Tyrel LE human Antipaladin of Achaekek. I like your character but there were better antipaladins that didn't make the cut.

Myza Sartva NE human Brawler (Venomfist/Snakebite Striker) I had a good feeling about you, it just wasn't enough.

And to the Vigilantes I just like to say I do like the characters but the "I'm not fully aware of what I'm doing" angle is just something I wouldn't have been able to play in to, sorry.

MattZ I had a good feeling about you too but I said that what I needed was a background and you didn't provide that. I'm sorry.

And here are the six, yes six because I know someone is going to drop out sooner or later, characters that managed to beat out the rest of you. In the order in which I accepted them into the campaign:

Casius Flann NE human Mesmerist

Lucia Dakara NE peri-blooded assimar Witch

Baolo Tizden NE human Barbarian (Dreadnought/Invulnerable Rager)

Venn D'or NE Male tiefling Slayer (Stygian Slayer)

Taldran Gerain LE human Cleric

Aviaun Koski NE Dhampire (Vetala-Born) Kineticist (Dark Elementalist)

To the victor go the spoils, or in this case go into the campaign and make a perception check. Put all relevant information including your background into your character profiles so I can easily find them. Also double check your character sheets to make sure everything is in order as according to my character creation rules.

To the rest of you I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors. Go the knowledge that you did not make this easy for me because I didn't see one bad application!

Awesome. Thanks for the opportunity, Kobolum.

I'll have this alias setup shortly and will double-check all the creation rules in the process.

Looks like the gameplay and Discussion threads are still pending setup, but in the meantime after re-reviewing the free preview's creation rules, I realized I neglected to include the additional +2 hit points per level, so I've added that. Also dropped the second trait to include just the campaign "crime" trait.

The door to the cell swings open with a sudden bang! The jailor enters and points at Herand, saying only "You!"

Responding to nobody in particular, Herand slowly says "I guess it is my time to face the headsman." If something is going to happen, now is the time for it.

Best of luck for everybody that made it. Hopefully, you'll get to avenge me. GM Kobolum, if you want to give me any other criticisms or areas you think would have made a better submission, I'd love to hear them. In the meantime, I'll keep refining things for next time.

For those of you who didn't get in, my WotW game is currently looking for a couple of replacement characters for those who want to throw their hat in the ring.

Got left out of the list. :p

Dark Archive

Is there a +2 hp per level rule? I didn't see that.

"I see some are leaving our company." Lucia rattles her chains. "Worry not. I hear you do not recall the centuries you spend as a dretch in our masters land. Now, give us all a laugh and blow the smoke from your burning corpses into the eyes of these Mitra dogs."

Dark Archive

I meant to say lemure, not a dretch. already making mistakes.

No, hot hp, sorry, early morning typo. It's a +2 skill point.

Thanks for the chance to participate and I look forward to gaming with those accepted! I made a few more adjustments, already reflected in the profile. Mainly moving the stats around to give him a bit more Dex and went back to Power Attack instead of intimidating prowess. Should be ready to go. I promise, no more waffling. ;)
