Lorian took 5 earlier, and you patched him up with it, then he took another 5 and it went. If you patched yourself up between the two fights, I missed the text.

Fun Fact about this fight:

So fun fact, if more people went into the room she would have started dumping negative channel energy as an 8th level cleric. Problem being that most of the party is ranged she can't do that.
The bad guys were meant to flank and sneak attack people, but the critical stealth botch my dice gave me compared to perceptions defaulted as, there wasn't a chance in hell the fight would work.
There was a chance if they utilized some of their equipment before the fight, but you'll find out more about these characters later.

As Daedin opens the door, a force bolt flies over his head and flies into the wall behind him. Only luck managed to make Daedin not a clear shot.
"Stay back you bastards or I- Bloody hell, you're not them. You're living!" A thick Dwarven accent says from within the door.

Behind a desk sits a dwarf who looks like he has not slept in days, with a thick black beard tied into several braids. He goes back to his seat and sighs. "Next time you should really knock before opening a door. You could lose your head, and the last thing we need right now is more undead around here."

He then opens a waterskin on his desk and takes a drink of the small amount that remains, shaking its bottom side to try to get the rest of it to flow out. After that, he sets it back on the desk. "So from the sounds I heard, it seems you beat them. Either that or you are running away. Please tell me it isn't the latter."

Barely dodging a bolt through an eye, Daedîn brings his bow up quickly but doesn't fire as he hears the dwarf speak and gathers himself...

"Thank the gods you're a bad shot...and yes, we defeated 'em...what the bloody hells happened down here?"

He lowers the bow slightly, awaiting the dwarf's answer...

He leans back in his chair and sighs. "Well, its a bit of a long story, so you may want to take a seat."

"I am a member of an explorer's guild. Sandricaan is my name. I was sent here alongside my companions to investigate the Sky Citadel as one of the first expedition groups after they discovered some traps preventing progress." He then holds up his water skin to take another sip, before he realizes it is out and releases it from his grip, then refocuses his eyes on you all.

"There were 3 other members of my team. Beetle, a Halfling who clawed his way out of Cheliax by whatever means he could. He was a clever little bastard, but he was paranoid. The entire time we were in here he would either be arguing or staring daggers."

"There was also Shu-Lin Foo. She was a Tien lass with a pretty face, but she was certainly shy. Supposedly she was a slave in some place called Wanshou before she was liberated by an anti-slavery group. She was a very hesitant girl to act on most anything."
"Lastly there was Marcetta Larch-Bough. A Fire-Cracker of a half elf, with a temper as hot as a kiln. She was a former member of the Dented Helm Mercenary company, which she left behind after feeling it was too restrictive."

He licks his dry lips to try to re moisten his mouth. "Needless to say, arguments were constantly happening. Beetle and Marcetta were usually at each other's throats, and even drew weapons on each other. No progress was getting done in this damned place; those two were always fighting and Shu-Lin was doing nothing to help."

"When my companions and I made it down here through the elevator we ran into a problem. The damned thing went back up, and it would not come back down. We were stranded, and had only forward to go. In the chambers past this one there is a puzzle that requires cooperation to get past, but no one would trust each other. Rather, they went the other way. That was where it all fell apart."

Sandricaan pauses for a moment, trying to not pass out from a clear lack of sleep and low nutrition. "The cave had loose rocks in the ceiling that collapsed on top of Shu-Lin. She pleaded for help as her legs were broken. It was then that Beetle and Marcetta started to argue about how to best rescue her, to which their suggestions had hidden insults. They drew their blades, and that was when I knew the situation was bad. My magic mostly used up, there was little I could do on my own to help Shu-Lin or stop the others. I came into here to avoid the fight. I knew there was Lazurite in this cave, which can turn recently dead bodies into ghouls. I placed my Arcane Lock on this door and been in here ever since. I've been here for who-knows how long, and with no way up they clawed at this door, trying to entice me to come outside."

"I have been locked up in here for days on end, with minimal resources and a mission that I was going to fail." He then sits up straight and looks at you all. "If your here though, maybe you can help. Firstly, have you got any water?"

He takes a long hard drink from the waterskin, and then gives it back to Lorian and wipes his mouth with his sleeve. "Well, since you all are here. We can make this expedition not an entire waste."
He leans forward in his seat. "With your help, we can solve the mystery of the next chamber and access the vaults of Janderhoff."

He points further down the cavern. "On the wall there is a map of the mechanism we have in front of us. It is damaged, and a Mending cantrip seems to not be enough to restore it. Not that it helps, I can't solve the puzzle on my own."

"I think I understand how it works. The floor is composed of pressure plates. Based on where an individual stands and then the controller uses a console, a pillar should raise from the ground."

Sandricaan then wipes his hand over his forehead. "Since its safer now... I am going to take a nap. Wake me up when you have the vault open."

Daedîn muses to himself silently after listening to the dwarf. Don't know what to make of this fellow...maybe he couldn't have kept the half-Elf and Halfling from killing each other...but why did he leave the woman pinned there to become their prey when he knew they would become undead? He shudders a bit at the thought. But what do I know, I wasn't there...

Daedîn mutters, "Pleasant dreams," and then moves over to the map to check to see if it gives them a clue about how to operate this mechanism, other than the vague info the dwarf mentioned...

As they listen to the dwarven man's tale, Boftil is completely dumbfounded. "He's been locked away in 'ere for the gods know how long and the first thing he wants is some water? I'd bloody well be demandin' a case of ale or a flask of hard liquor!"

The dwarf then looks across at his much smarter comrades."I hope at least one of you lot is gunna be able to work this thing out. As for me, just tell me where to plant me fat arse or show me somethin' to hit and I'll do as I'm told!"

Boftil heads into the larger chamber, and sees columns jutting from the ground. As he approaches the nearest one from its south side and inspects it for any extra details.

Daedin and Thorek begin inspecting one of the control mechanisms. The one on the Northern Side has a lot of wheels and dials. Fiddling with it for a bit, the next room begins producing a grinding noise.

The pillar To the North of Boftil begins to descend into the ground.

Are we supposed to know what the end state is that we are trying to achieve with this puzzle? I'm a little confused. I think we've now got a bit of a clue as to the mechanism and how to affect the pillars etc., but are we supposed to know what we are aiming for ie. no pillars in the room? A particular pattern? A clear space to get through the room? Not asking for all the answers, just for anything I may have missed with regards to what we're trying to solve, rather than how.

Boftil listens to the words of his fellow dwarf and then replies in a similar whisper.

Whispered in Dwarven:

"Mate, ya might be askin' the wrrong bloody dwarf. Trust isn't one of me strengths. Most a the time I don't even trust meself ta be honest. As for this guy, do I trust 'im? Hell no! But is he worth trustin', hard to say, mate. Definitely a few questions about 'im but if ya want ta give him the benefit a the doubt until he proves ya wrong, no problems with me. I don't wanna go killin' no dwarves either, mate. Got enough blood of me kin on me hands to deal with already!"

I'm in the same boat as you, Boftil...I know you got to cross the room but not sure what obstacles are stopping him...I'm guessing that when he moves to other tiles, maybe other pillars pop up. And can he walk over the pillars that sink in the floor when we operate the mechanism correctly? Maybe you can move a square and we'll see what happens?
