GM Tyranius |
Yup, I would think Mavenee would defend itself without command. The 2HD wouldn't matter much as you made the save and I went lowest to highest.
Savannah thrusts her spear into the goblin's through. It's large bulbous eyes go large in panic before going dim as it's soul leaves its body.
Yorad swipes his dagger left and right, trying to keep the goblin's at bay, though he isn't able to hit much of anything.
Mavenee tries to protect herslef and swipes at the goblin but it pats the large cat's paw with it's own and giggles.
Fluffy leaps onto the red goblin's back, knocking it prone as she rakes her claws along it's back.
Sarina moves closer and gives Zildaastin a good kick, jerking him awake. Holding his hand out, a cloud of smoke rolls forth like some sort of strange illusion. It seems to hover over the goblin.
Prakriti grabs the purple skinned goblin by it's large ear and slits the creature's throat. It falls to the ground gasp as it frantically scoops the lost blood from the ground, trying to put it back into it's neck, though not with much success as Prakriti steps on it's back.
The red eyed goblin tries to stand back up but is quickly clawed to death by the two large cats surrounding it.
With the defeat of the goblins, the Duskwardens clear the rubble from the collapses and help you to rejoin the rest of the travelers on the Halflight Path. One of the Duskwardens kicks at the goblin bodies, flips a few of them over, and then grunts. “Haven’t seen these here in a long time,” he says, then turns to you and apologizes. “Our duty is to keep our charges safe—we failed. We’ll have to shut down the Path for a while we plug these holes again and figure out where these goblins came from.”
Searching the bodies the goblin shaman has a potion with a strange symbol on it. The symbol etched into the glass, that of a human male on his knees holding his arms up to the sun.

"Look here," Yorad points out the various spots in the passagewway, "Those gobbos were likely camping behind that wall the previous night, and been working at bringing the stone down for a while. The goblins who came through the ceiling got up there by digging a tunnel up out of the cavern." He gives the exotic woman a nod and a wink, "Sounds like you may be onto something.'
GM Tyranius |
Sarina swirls the potion and is fairly confident that it is in fact a potion of cure light wounds.
Savannah Kurgess |
Savannah smiles as she cleans off her spear. "Good job, team!"
She helps move the rubble from the passage.
Once everyone has rejoined with the rest of the caravan, she beckons everyone close around her. "Fill us with your strength, Kurgess!" Channel energy to heal, hitting all of us, and any wounded people who were on the other side of the wall.

GM Tyranius |
The Duskwardens gather the body of the one merchant who died in the ambush and continue to guide you and the other travelers up to the top of the Halflight Path. Four hours after the fight, you reach a bunker-like complex just outside the entrance to Kaer Maga. The city is enormous. In all directions, you can see that every inch of it is covered in buildings: cliff side buildings, buildings built on the atop thin balconies around the interior of the walls themselves, and buildings crammed together on the floor of the ancient ruin. Except for the lake at the center of the city (even then, only at midday), the entire city is drowned in permanent twilight.
Now the Pathfinder just need to figure out where exactly Collgardie’s house is in this mess.

Once we reach the city Sarina looks on in awe.
"It must have taken years to lug that much building material this far. We may not be safe here. Zildaastin, Savannah, One of you should drink that potion we found and I will use a cure wand on the other."
GM Tyranius are you okay with taking the average on out of combat healing rolls?
Yorad Cinderhunter |
Yorad glances about him trying to hide the look of amazement off his face. This place takes it all, never seen anything like it before!
"Perhaps we should find a place to sleep then see where the merchants do their business. One of them must know where he can be found!"

Savannah shakes her head. "Save it. I'm fine for now."
Looking around the city, she grins. "Wow!"
She seems at a loss for words for a while.
"Well, we might as well ask around."
Savannah starts trying to chat up the locals, in an effort to find out where Collgardie lives.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
GM Tyranius |
Yup- that is fine Sarina, just check the charges off.
Hours: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Savannah starts to chat up one of the nearby locals and others entering the city on where Collgardie might live. After about an hour of searching she eventually finds the location of Collgardie's abode from a few hours of asking around town. The group meets back up at the aforementioned time and heads over to find the man that they have been sent for.
******
Horis Collgardie’s house is small but in good repair; judging by the decrepit state of the other homes in the neighborhood, this merchant friend of Drandle Dreng must be relatively well off. His home is made of a hodgepodge of brick and stone matching the city’s walls. Several windows look out onto the thin balcony walkway some 60 feet above the city streets that serves as the access for this neighborhood, but all are heavily barred with the shades pulled. The house appears dark and quiet.
Zildaastin Pembledrove |
"I think it might be a good idea for me to take that potion. Some of us don't recover as easily as others," Zil adds with a wink at Sarina.
CLW potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
At Horis's house, the gnome knocks on the door. "Hello? Is anyone home?"
Savannah Kurgess |
Savannah heads up to the door and knocks.
Yorad Cinderhunter |
As his fellow Pathfinders try the direct approach Yorad busies himself with finding another way inside, other than the barred windows above.
"Sounds like he may have skipped town here."
GM Tyranius |
Zildaastin and Savannah head up to the door and knocks. Some voices inside can be heard quarrelling as a whisper fight ensues.
About thirty seconds later, a big man with a golden golem badge holding his cloak answers the door. "Who're you?"
Mahalak () (Mavenee 10/11)
Sarina
Zildaastin (10/10)
Prakriti
Savannah (14/17)

Prakriti Neela Yaadu |
Prakriti joins the others at the door as the big man opens it up. She steps forward with a wide smile on her distinctive light blue-hued face. "Greetings! My name is Prakriti. My friends here and I are here to speak to Horis Collgardie, are you he?
Assuming that this is Collgardie or that he introduces us to him.
"We have been sent here by a friend of yours, Drendle Drang of the Pathfinder Society in Absalom. We believe you are having problems with some supposed Pathfinder agents here in the city stirring up trouble and claiming to be planning to set up a Lodge in Kaer Maga. We are here to assure you that the Society has no such plans and instead offer our help in getting to the bottom of what's going on. If you would be able to tell us more about what has been happening here, we'd be very grateful. We intend to track down these so called agents and put a stop to this business of theirs!"
Diplomacy (take 10): 7 + 10 = 17
Also, if anyone needs any urgent healing, Prakriti can cast CLW as one of her 4 spells/day.
Savannah Kurgess |
Savannah nods along with Prakriti. She holds out her hand. "And I'm Savannah. It's a pleasure to meet you. Can we come in?"
Diplomacy (AID): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Sarina Darkmoon |
Sarina looks around to see if anyone is paying undue attention to the house.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Then glances back during Prakriti's speech.
"She speaks the truth. We are here to help." Diplo aid: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15
GM Tyranius |
The man squints his eyes. He looks at you suspiciously. "That's fine and all, but go away. Collgardies gone." With that the door slams shuts the door in your face and you hear the lock click.
Sarina hears more hushed whispers inside, as if an argument is taken place.
Savannah Kurgess |
"Gone?" Savannah asks in surprise. She bangs loudly on the door. "If he's gone we need access to his home for a few minutes. You're welcome to supervise us!"
After a moment she thinks about something and asks her companions, "Wait... Who are these guys, then?"
Savannah leans her head near the door and calls out "Who are you?"
Yorad Cinderhunter |
Yorad shakes his head, still maintaining his grin. "Tell ya what. Since we want to talk with him and not with you, we'll go easy on you. Let us in and answer our questions and we won't get in a bad mood. Get us in a bad mood and..." he lets the threat hang in the air.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Zildaastin Pembledrove |
"Anyone good at getting around unseen?" Zil asks while the others continue talking to the door. "I wonder if there are any other ways into the place. Since Collgardie's away, and all."
Sarina Darkmoon |
Sarina holds up a finger for quiet and puts her ear to the door.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Hopefully she can get an idea of the emotions behind the talking even if she can't make out the words.
sense motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
GM Tyranius |
Sarina watches as the man shuts the door. He seemed a bit nervous about the visit.
Yorad's threats and Savannah's questions hang in the air unanswered. Sarina places an ear to the door but is only able to catch the faintest of words, though out of context they make little sense.
"-.......Don't......touch........Rot...-"
Savannah Kurgess |
Savannah knocks loudly again and calls through the door. "Please? Let us in! Time is of the essence. We need only information! And Collgardie himself invited us!"
Sarina Darkmoon |
Sarina steps back a few paces and says in a low voice. "I think that they are afraid we are suffering from some sort of disease or plague."
Yorad Cinderhunter |
Yorad stares at the woman, a non-plussed look on his face. "That makes little sense here. We have not seen any signs of plague here and no one else is barricading themselves inside." He recalls something seen earlier when they opened the door, "What did those symbols they were wearing mean?"
Knowledge (local, untrained), golden golem badge: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Prakriti Neela Yaadu |
"I do not trust these people at all. Perhaps Collgardie is not gone but rather in trouble? Who are these people and why are they in his home? I wonder if they are somehow related to the trouble being stirred up in the Pathfinders' name?"
Riti wonders if the golden golem symbol has some religious significance.
Kn. Religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Savannah Kurgess |
Savannah keeps knocking and calling out for entry, inadvertently making a nice loud ruckus that is sure to cover the sounds of any breaking and entering her companions may want to attempt...
Haha. Savannah wouldn't consider breaking in, but she sure is persistent!
GM Tyranius |
Riti doesn't recognize the golden golem to have any religious aspect. The group discusses what to do as they continue to yell at the locked door.
Still noone answers and the questions are only met by the sound of something heavy, possibly furniture falling to the floor from within.
Prakriti Neela Yaadu |
”We must get inside. Something’s not right!” Riti tries to open the door in the hope it’s not locked.
GM Tyranius |
Riti finds the door locked. Just as she suspected as the group heard what sounded like a bolt securing behind the strange man.
Sarina Darkmoon |
Sarina speaks up so the people inside can hear.
"We mention Collgardies and you panic. I assure you we just want to talk. Any comments that suggest we have bad intentions," *glances at Yorad* "Is due to crankiness at a long trip interrupted by a goblin attack. At the very least tell us where he went. Or where you think he went. We want to clear up this confusion regarding fake Pathfinders."
diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
Yorad Cinderhunter |
"We are just trying to track down these rumors of so-called fake Pathfinders here. Any help would be appreciated..." Yorad takes out a coin pouch and shakes it loudly next to the door, "Get my drift?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Zildaastin Pembledrove |
While the others make noise, Zil moves around the building to look for other entrances.
Stealth (untrained): 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 1 = 23
GM Tyranius |
Zil finds several barred windows with thick and heavy curtains drawn, though no other doors or points of entrance.
Yorad Cinderhunter |
Yorad glances back at his fellow Pathfinders, 'While I think we can get inside fairly easily, not sure if that be a good idea. May draw too much attention to ourselves." He shrugs helplessly, "Perhaps we kin keep searching for Collgardies 'ere. I am sure he had some associates that he talked to."
Prakriti Neela Yaadu |
Riti seems reluctant to leave Collgardie's house without checking inside. "I've got a bad feeling about this lot. I wouldn't feel right just walking away. What if Collgardie's inside and in danger...or these people are in there damaging or stealing his things? Can't you perhaps just quietly open the door without causing a scene?"
Savannah Kurgess |
Agreed. Anyone care to pick a lock? Otherwise I can try to break the door down.
"Do you really think the Collgardie could be in trouble inside?" Savannah asks with worry. After a moment she nods. "We need to get inside and check it out."
I was just snooping at everyone's sheets and it looks like none of us have disable device. If I'm wrong, feel free to pull out the lock picks instead, but otherwise:
With determination in her eyes, Savannah looks at the others. "If Collgardie's inside, these men will be violent. If you have preparations to make, now is the time."
Then she prays to Kurgess for luck and strength, takes a deep breath, and tries to kick the door in.
Casting shield of faith on herself. Then using her strength surge ability on herself. Then trying to break in the door.
Strength Check: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 1 = 23
"We're coming, Collgardie!"
Zildaastin Pembledrove |
I agree. If there are no other ways in, break that sucker down! (I really hope this doesn't backfire on us...)
Zil says a quick prayer of his own as Savannah winds up. "And may strength triumph!"
Casting guidance on Savannah for an extra +1 competence bonus.
Sarina Darkmoon |
I'm sure this place has a nice prison.
Sarina looks startled at the breaking an entering but trusts her allies know what they are doing. She pulls out her scimitar in preparation of a rescue.
Mahalak Akrakai |
With the female members breaking down the door, Mahalak tries to keep Mavenee from following suit. "No Mavenee! You'll have your turn. Patience!" He then draws his longbow to try to fend off any hostile beings.
Yorad Cinderhunter |
Yorad sighs briefly, Hope this works out... before he moves up to the door ready to provide any additional muscle if needed.
GM Tyranius |
Savannah kicks in the door where they just talked to the man. The door jamb cracks with a resounding splintering of wood as the Pathfinders rush in.

As soon as the group bursts in, half the party frantically looks around and sees nothing; the other half sees the man from before, using a flipped sofa as cover. He grips a cestus on his hand. the leather creaks as he flexes. "Let's do this!" He seems to be steeling himself for a good fight.
In the corner near the sofa is the body of the merchant that can only be Collgardie, missing his head. Reaching down the man tosses the head toward the door as his metal plated fist glimmers in the sunlight coming through the door, though he seems to hesitate slightly.
