Game Expectations
1. Posting Frequency: My games tend to run a little quicker than average. Before signing up, consider how much time you can devote to the game. I prefer players who can post at least once per day on average, and once on the weekends. I understand that everyone occasionally has a busy day and just can't find the time to post. I try to avoid this but even as the GM I sometimes miss a day. But not posting for several days is not acceptable. It slows the game down and makes it less interesting because your character will be left behind in the action. And if you disappear during combat and hold things up for a day, I will skip you and move on.
2. Posting Quality: Take advantage of the medium and write some description. Tell us what your PC is doing or what they look like; put up some dialog and start a conversation with your fellow PCs. It makes the game immensely more engaging, immersive, and entertaining. I will admit, it can sometimes be hard to spice up combat posts. Bottom line: be willing to make an effort role-playing in my game. If you aren't up to that challenge, please consider playing a different game. If you aren't much of a writer or are new to PbP, don't be intimidated. I/We will help you improve! But if you sign up for my game and make too many posts with just dice or just ooc text, I will give you a warning and if your quality doesn't improve I reserve the right to ask you to leave the game.
3. I also try to be pretty open as to what is allowed and options that are a little outside the box, I really enjoy seeing what creative players come up with. If I ask for a roll, and you feel that you have another option that may work better, there is no harm in asking. The best way, and by that I mean the fastest way to do so and keep things moving is to first off, make the roll I asked for, (because sometimes the answer will be no, but that's generally because the Scenario specifically says so and I can't control that), and then to both ask if you can do something else instead, and then also make the appropriate rolls for that alternative option as well.
Go ahead and give me the following info

Just as a heads-up, I will be volunteering as a counselor for a summer camp from Saturday to Thursday. Will post as much as I can while there, but never done this before and never been to the camp before either, so don't know how that will go. After that, though, there shouldn't be any issues with posting frequency.
Corona Merrion |
Player Name: Lady Ladile
Character Name: Corona Merrion
PFS # 192133-7
Faction: Silver Crusade
Day Job: Profession: Baker: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Hello, happy to be here! Posting at least 1/day shouldn't be any problem for me but I work odd hours (a mix of day and night shifts) so don't be surprised to see my posts come at all sorts of hours :)
Seleena |
Player Name: caps
Character Name: Seleena
PFS #: 137974-9
Faction: Scarab Sages
Day Job: None
I originally rolled Seleena up as a Zen Archer, but I just wasn't feeling that build. I think this new build gives me more RP room, too. Disappointed in the avatar options. Seleena is covered in tattoos and it's hard to find anything like that. I also wanted her to have a shaved head, but I'll settle for the purple (and of course, this avatar's skin is too smooth).
Kolris Isimlothe |
Player Name: Zin Z'arin (Rob Riemersma)
Character Name: Kolris Isimlothe
PFS #: 192785-3
Faction: Dark Archive
Day Job: Craft (alchemy), crafter's fortune, alchemist's lab: 1d20 + 8 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 5 + 2 = 21
It occurred to me that Inspiration could apply to a day job check, and I searched the boards to see what they have to say; there doesn't seem to be an official ruling. This is the only thread I could find discussing it. There's some good back and forth, but no conclusion and nothing definitive from Paizo staff. I'd be inclined to follow this, which means that Kolris can't use inspiration on a day job check, but might be able to in the future with the right vanity and/or investigator talent.
@GM or other players, what are your thoughts?
GM Turmoil |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
@ Zin: I'm of the opinion that because inspiration is a limited resource, it would not apply to Day Job checks. If you had unlimited uses of it for you check, either by using a different skill through a vanity, or having a talent that expands your free uses, then I would say it's fine. Honestly, it's something I never even though of on my own Investigator until you mentioned it.
PS. Buy an alchemist's lab for 200 gp. It weighs a lot but just keep it at your home base or your room at the Lodge or whatever and just use it for Day Job checks or crafting checks between scenarios. Lab

I've got the budget for that now. You mind if I purchase that now and apply it to that roll? The +2 will actually bump me a tier for the reward.

Go for it. You should still be able to edit the post with your rolls to add it. Otherwise I may forget come chronicle time.

All done. Thanks for the heads-up! That also opens me up to crafting the next DC of alchemical items. :)
Sesska |
Player Name: Eric Bennett (aka Nefreet)
Character Name: Sesska
PFS #: 66548-34
Faction: Scarab Sages
XP Track: Normal
Day Job: None
I'm actually playing her tonight at a tabletop session so I won't dot into Gameplay until after that.
(if she dies... Well... I guess I'll bring another character!)
Kolris Isimlothe |
Can I choose extracts now, or am I stuck with what's already on my profile?
Corona Merrion |
Shifting discussion to here, it sounds like Seleena's general idea is for a few of us to go inside with her and the rest wait outside. I'm guessing she's going to go for the pearl angle and either pose as someone in authority to make arrests or otherwise try to bribe/blackmail the bartender into helping us in some manner. This approach is fine with me.
Since Sesska mentioned that starting up a sermon might also do the trick, perhaps those of us that opt to stay outside (if we do split up) can start doing just that and trying to draw a crowd. This can either happen at the same time as Seleena's plan for maximum confusion and chaos or as a backup should Seleena's plan fail in some manner.
Thoughts?
Seleena |
I was thinking we all go inside, but not as a group (in 1s and 2s). Seleena goes alone to blackmail and generally threaten the bartender, and then 2 or 3 others join her in an alternative plan if the blackmail and threatening doesn't work. If we get thrown out, the others can attempt a second disruption.

Oh, okay. That works too!
Corona Merrion |
We can do eeeet!
*edit* GM, how do you want to handle/want me to handle Corona's Misfortune revelation? This is how it functions: At 1st level, as an immediate action, you can force a creature within 30 feet to reroll any one d20 roll that it has just made before the results of the roll are revealed. The creature must take the result of the reroll, even if it’s worse than the original roll. Once a creature has suffered from your misfortune, it cannot be the target of this revelation again for 1 day.
Kolris Isimlothe |
@Seleena: I didn't see a good opportunity for Kolris' disguise to contribute to your line of coercion, so I'm leaving him outside to 'break up' the disturbance if your plan isn't effective.
It feels like our plan is more of a rough sketch with a lot of room for improv.

This is a heads up that I am traveling from now through the 4th of July holiday. I will be mostly in an area where cell service is spotty; I may not be able to post at all, but I will do my best to, if nothing else, post actions with limited roleplay. If you are also in the US, enjoy your holiday, and if you're not: don't mind us!
GM Turmoil |
I want to apologize, this week has been crazy busy for me, and I don't see it changing over the next few days with the holiday weekend upon us. Any time I've had to post I've been trying to make the special my priority since it's time sensitive.
I'll have a lot more free time starting on the 5th, and I'll get this going again.
Seleena |
No big deal to me as long as we get back to it. We should have plenty of time to finish up before the game day

No worries GM and thanks for keeping us in the loop!

Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans, happy Tuesday to the rest of the world! And remember kids, it's not a proper rendition of the 1812 Overture unless it has cannons!
Kolris Isimlothe |
@ Kolris: You can include you inspiration roll in with the d20, it doesn't have to be separate. 1d2+1d3+1d4+1d5
Yup, I know that. I format it that way mostly because it's technically an 'after the fact' bonus. I.e. if we were at a table, I'd roll 1d20, then decide if I want to add 1d6; I wouldn't roll them together.
Is it confusing the way I format it?
Kolris Isimlothe |
Cool, sounds good.
Now if I could just roll higher than a 1 when I roll for Inspiration....

Still here; I'm enjoying reading the subterfuge currently happening outside. Good job you two! :)
Kolris Isimlothe |
I have another busy weekend coming up, but this one is in a hotel and should allow for more posting; I expect to at least keep up a daily posting rate through the weekend.
GM Turmoil |
Yup, they're missing the line about activating spell-trigger items. There's a post somewhere from a developer that it was intentionally part of the design. I was bummed about it with my own Investigator.
At least with the Empiricist, UMD will key off Int for you next level, instead of Cha, so you should be able to get it pretty high.
Also, extracts only take 1 min to create, not 10.

*takes notes for when she inevitably makes a PFS investigator*
Kolris Isimlothe |
I did not know that! I've taken back the charges that I couldn't have used this adventure; thankfully shield never came into play in the first encounter, so it's an adequate ret-con.
Does that create any kind of an issue for the charges of heightened awareness that I used in my last scenario?
Thankfully, Kolris will be leveling up after this scenario, so I'll get that Int UMD (which was always the plan).
Corona Merrion |
While we wait...is anyone else here excited for Gameday VI? Anyone going to GenCon in a few weeks? Alas, I don't have the cash to afford a trip to GenCon but I *am* excited about Gameday VI :)
Kolris Isimlothe |
Apologies for the lack of posting this weekend; a minor whirlwind arose in my life but I'm back. I'm posting this message in all of my games first, then circling back around to make an in-game post. I should be caught up later today. Thanks for your patience!
GM Turmoil |
The past two weeks I've been studying for a huge certification exam for work, and now that's done and over with. Between that, and the special being over, I should have much more free time going forward and this game should pick up. I will make sure we are done before the start of Gameday.
Corona Merrion |
That's great to hear, as I was hoping to be done by then so I can play Corona in the Solstice Scar special. Thanks for the update :)
