Adolina! Had I known you were apping, I would've applied with everyone's favorite white dragon!

...actually, can I do that? Change my app to another character? (We have enough paladins anyways, I think I can conjure up something better than that.)

GM T, I have a suggestion. You've got well over thirty applicants in just over two days--the pace will likely tail off soon, but if you keep recruitment open until the end of the month it wouldn't be surprising if you broke fifty. You may want to close the recruitment early, just to make the selection process easier on you.

(And I'm not being self-serving, here...the competition for the arcane full caster slot is already pretty impressive, and the difference between one chance in ten and one chance in twenty is imperceptible for a single trial.)

Well since it died I thought I'd reuse the alias. Could the Worldwound cope with a mythic Azzerix? Could be fun if we both got in though - we were getting on so well last time :P

If you are closing the applications early it would be nice to know what the deadline is so I wont end up missing it. I still feel like I have a lot left to do on Rukzha and I probably won't have time to finish her before this weekend.

Rukzha, it looks (and GM T, correct me if I'm wrong) like you don't need any of the crunch for a submission.

-Appearance;
-Where was born and how was your childhood;
-How entered your class;
-How did you end up on Kenabres;
-What is your PC's goals and ambitions;
-Appearance;
-Personality;

Besides the Background, I'd also like a few sentences on how do you intend to RP your PC and what would be your primary and secondary roles within the party. Remember that I'm taking four PCs so one-trick monkeys will have a hard time.

Oh, naturally! Everyone loves Azzerix! What's not to love!? He's the Winter Dragon (tm)! Except for the Worldwound. They will pay for collapsing the city in on my beautiful underground home! Though I will probably be retooling him to be a bloodrager; even with a 15 point buy, I can make it work! Plus the Dragonmaw and Gliding Wings alt racial feats would work very well alongside the powers.

But I can picture the group falling in on Azzerix's home, him complaining about them ruining his beautiful domain, and Adolina going '...I have... the strangest case of deja vu right now...'

Ah, but The crunch is pretty much done, it's indeed those points I'm working on.

@Adolina: Your background is good so far. The same can be said by your crunch. Regarding the Canny Defense, I'll allow the full bonus as long as no armor is used. The Duelist ability allows light armor but the kensai says no armor so I'll rule that if you use armor you get the max of +1/level... if no armor is used you get the full bonus. I know that right now you do not have light armor proficiency... it is just a measure of precaution. About your drawback, Naïve is too situational so I'll propose two things: First, you apply the -2 penalty to Sense Motive checks as well; Second, you change Naïve to Doubt, that actually fits your background much better!

@Viemos: No problem about changing him to Zen Archer... this is one of the advantages of a longer recruitment, since you have time to thing about your PC and even have inspiration with other PCs. About your background it is quite difficult to judge it and think how it could be changed to fit this AP... also, if you change him to monk, lots of things will be even more out of place, like the gladiatorial arenas and even the marriage...

@Kubular: LOL I already saw this recruitment and a couple of my choices were based on this game and on feedback answered by the GM of that game. It has a lot of Mythic changes and even if I think it is a lot of changes and I'd like to try without it, I'll for sure take a peek from time to time if I need to tone down the mythic rules... Regarding the feedback, I like him and think you are doing pretty good. For the demon cult, if you want more information, a cult to Baphomet is really appropriate.

@Kyvix: Until the final of the recruitment, anyone can change whatever they want about any PC, even submitting more than one (although in no case will a player play more than on PC).

@Melchesiech: I see your point and even if I agree with your point, there are a couple points that justify why I'd like to keep it open: First, some players work their PC until they think it is perfect before even showing interest (like I am...) so even if I decide to close it early and say that everyone would have more 48h before the end of the recruitment, some players will be upset for loosing their shot; Second, I also need time to prepare everything for the game and already have a trip on the end of the month so I'd not be able to start the game before the original schedule even if I want it!

@EVERYONE!: Melchsiech is right that the OP mentioned only the background was necessary but it was not my intention... I also would like to see a sketch of your build to avoid any future problems like selecting a player based on his concept and then during the discussion we do not come to an agreement...

That being said, you do not need to present a perfect/complete crunch, just a basic one so I can see what you are aiming for!

Cos I issed that bit

I intend to play Taus as a bit of a talker, that will talk even when there's danger.. "Wow! that was almost a spot of bother" after he has shielded a companion from an attack or such.

"By the light of the lady that thing sure is ugly.. ummmm sorry m'lady"

Shadow Lodge

@GM Toothy: Ahah! I thought it was interesting that you used most of the same Variant rules. Now I know why.

I added the Meticulous drawback because he's already pretty meticulous. Still not sure what the third trait should be, but I can get on that later.

I have updated Alias to include an Appearance and Personality Spoiler. Working on other stuff as we speak.

Changing my app from Kivyx the kobold paladin to Azzerix Wyrmclaw, kobold bloodrager of the draconic bloodline! All shall kneel before my might and the Worldwound shall know my freezing breath and TREMBLE!!!

This is Velkaria's player here.

Since everyone is submitting paladins, I decided to submit a half-orc divine hunter (no not the paladin archetype now) instead. Should be fun!

Dark Archive

So, less palidian and mages eh? Well that gives some more room for others :)

Oh great its Azzerix the delusional.....

sorry there Azzerix,no Fulito here to sing songs of your.....whatever.

"...you just jealous of my Winter Dragon swagger."

Some new aspects and history about Hollycaryn Smilesword. ^ ^
Stolen somethings... a few one! =p

Goals:

List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

1.Holly seeks to prove to yourself and others around you who she are able to honor the blessing granted to her by Chaldira Zuzaristan. She has a quandary to solve, be strong, be brave and show mercy to his enemies.

2.The sadness of the past follows Holly on their journey, so, she has to deal with the fear of losing again those close to her. In this way she coming trying to control his anger and hide her feelings to anyone come too close again.

Secrets:

List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!

1. She feels embarrassed and uncomfortable about her past and never condone herself by staying hidden during the massacre of her community and it usually makes she think that although she was young it couldn't avoid she of doing her part. It is something that accompanies and haunts her dreams and nightmares.

2. Holly has no idea who has left her behind in the chapel of Desna by your father, a halfling who ventures from decades ago leaving behind his newborn daughter. Her mother was a cleric of Desna who has been captured by summoning demons.

Relations:

Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.

1.Ilydia: A Sherlyn´s cleric in Kenabres who was introduced Holy to the city and got her a permission to stay in church accommodation in Northgate when she needed. Both of them used to live together and they became friend.

2. Gael Cross: An recruiter officer, paladin of Iomedae, that incessantly denied the Holy a participation in any invested in Worldwound, claiming that the Halfing will never survive a battle against demons!

3.Lucan Linch: An old administrator of stables in Northgate where Holy has survived getting a few bucks as a riding instructor and assist in dealing with wild horses. This half-elf helps her in dealing with horses and arrange some clients for her.

Mmkay, finally getting this settled! Presenting Jarone, debonair man-about-town!

Fluffy Bits!:
Jarone had a way with words, and he knew it. Whether it was discounts at various street merchants, or the pants said merchant's beautiful daughter, he always knew what to say and how to say it. But it wasn't always this way.

Years ago, when he was but a mere lad, through circumstances beyond his control, he found himself behind enemy lines and trapped, surrounded by the demonic fiends threatening his homeland. He was alone, scared, legs trembling and knees speaking in Morse code. He could almost feel the hunger permeating the area as he tried to find his way out. Jarone knew and acknowledged, if only to himself, that he was going to die. And sure enough, he would have if it wasn't for her. He didn't know here name, or indeed much of anything about her. She rarely talked, just a small, sad smile on her lips every time she looked at him with her hand holding onto the symbol of Desna hanging from her neck. She was beautiful, in a way that wilting flowers were beautiful, but her presence almost seemed to make them unseen by the denizens of the Worldwound. In a matter of hours, it seemed, Jarone found himself picked up by a ground of paladins and templars, and when he turned to profess his undying thanks to the woman who saved his life, he found himself alone.

When Jarone was safely back in one of the orphanages in Mendev, he turned his words to use and studied at one of the local Desnan chapels. As he grew older, he found a peace with life he had never known before, and though he still enjoyed talking his way into the beds of various women -and the occasional man, really, he wasn't picky- he just knew that he was destined for more.

Appearance:
Jarone is 5'9, with a lithe runner's build. He's got grey eyes, the shade of storm clouds during midday. His hair is a deep black with a slight blue sheen in certain lighting.

He'll be a good face, with a few other skills to back him up. Not sure on combat just yet, debating on going with either a light weapon to take advantage of his Finesse training or go with a crossbow. While he is a rogue, his Rake archetype gets rid of his trapfinding and trap sense abilities so he won't be getting rid of those for the party. Also debating on whether or not I want to go with the Evangelist prestige class or not.

I'd like to nominate a character for this.

So here is the updated list! Oh man... this is going to be impossible! There are many awesome PCs here! It would be nice if someone else also decided to run this AP so more than four are picked... unfortunately I'll only grab what I can chew, so more than one table is out of the table for now...

Adolina is a magus (mind blade), not a cavalier. Does mindblade count as occult for you?

Shadow Lodge

@GM Toothy: Isn't Adolina a mindblade not a cavalier? (Ninja'd) And I have a feeling Me'mori's character is a Sorcerer just based on the Ability array.

I'm not the GM, so my comments should be taken with a grain of salt with that in mind:

@Rukzha: I really like Rukzha, and I want you to get in so I just thought I would point out her backstory is completely missing any connection to the Riftwardens. Something you should fix if you're not already on it.

@William Nightmoon:
I wasn't going to say anything but both of your characters are straight up missing a lot of things and you look like you could use some help. It's okay for a character to be mysterious, I even like mysterious characters. But they can't just be a block of stats with little motivation to do anything. Both are missing their campaign traits at the very least and have a lot of grammar and spelling errors. Grammar and spelling errors can lead to a lot of misunderstanding, and communication is all we have to go on in a PbP.

SPECIFIC BEATS GENERAL EVERY TIME.

Sorry for the all caps, its a really important rule when writing.

To take an example from your backstory and how I would have done it:

(Originally)Adriala was left in the woods as a child, north of BLANK, to die. Fortunately for her, an old elven ranger, Siliviana Nightmoon, found her. The ranger took her in and raised her to adult. As she grew, she showed signs of strong strange powers. Siliviana saw this, and took her to a group of witches who saw the power she had and took her in as a disciple. They showed her how to draw magic from the spirits in nature.

(More Specific)Adriala was left somewhere in the woods of Isger to die. Fortunately for her, an old elven ranger, Siliviana Nightmoon happened upon her tasked herself with raising the child. She first displayed her magical ability when she found an injured fox caught in a hunter's snare. She freed the fox and healed its wound with a touch. Intrigued, Siliviana took the young Adriala and her new pet fox to a small coven in the Kyonin Forests, called the Ordo Lebes who would help Adriala control and expand her powers.

The was made specific by looking at the pathfinder Wiki and finding somewhere there were elven rangers roaming around. The fox brings an anecdote and a more specific instance of her powers manifesting and simultaneously earns her a familiar. Perhaps she awakens it or something as she begins formal training with the Witches. I don't know. Its your story.

Your characters have lots of potential for interesting hooks but you write them off by not being specific enough. How did they get to Kenabres? Why? Why does Shadewhite go by that name instead of his birth name? What is the Demon Blade's name? Who wields it, or is it just a disembodied blade? In which case, why hasn't the freaking thing been hunted down?

Where is Adriala from really? Why does she want to fight demons? What happened to her coven (Witch group)?

These are just a few of the questions you should ask yourself to make your characters more compelling and likely to be chosen.

I'm not going to get into your crunch mistakes because at this phase GM Toothy just wants a rough sketch, which you have.

Feel totally free to ignore everything I just said. I wrote this for myself and everyone else as much as I did for you, but let me know if you found it helpful or not.

Silver Crusade

@Toothy - as it has been mentioned a couple of times that you are no fan of occult characters I thought I'd check/offer if you'd prefer Adolina to be a 'normal' Kensai rather than a Mindblade? I'll make the change if you prefer it, I just like the 'carries no weapons' part which keeps her both mechanically viable and still matches well with her background.

Just putting it out there for you. :)

Kubular wrote:

Thank you :). I'm indeed already on it.

@Rukzha: Thanks for pointing this out! When I included Adolina on this list, she had the states from a cavalier (she is recycling this alias) and I forgot to change it afterwards.

@Kubular: Also thanks for trying to help a fellow player. What you wrote is indeed true and (I think) most GMs prefer a more detailed background and general ones... Especially for a level 1 starting game that many PCs looks alike, a good background is the differential and also a 'peek' at the player's writing skills.

@Adolina: No problem with the 'occult' aspect of the mind-blade... also, from what I remember from your background, you almost reflavored it as a different magic.

Any feedback on Jarone? GM or anybody, not too picky.

Silver Crusade

GM Toothy wrote:

It's arcane magic twisted by a nasty (and averted) demonic ritual. Adolina is basically like no sorceror you ever met before. :D She's got no idea how it works - half of the time she's trying to replicate arcane spells her parents used. The other half she's just really really hoping something happens!

DekoTheBarbarian wrote:

I like the character, but am not sure of the wisdom of giving up trapfinding when we're restricted to a party of four.

I can get rid of the archetype, really just like it for the flavoring.

No argument there, and it'd be different if someone had proposed something else that'd get trapfinding--an urban ranger, crypt breaker alchemist, investigator, slayer...hey, you could leave him as a rake for now, and get a friend to submit a slayer (deliverer) who takes Extra Slayer Talent at first level and uses it for trapfinding.

Shadow Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Agreeing with Mechesiech mostly, though for slightly different reasons. I don't think its wrong for you to get rid of trapfinding just because there is a small party, you'll survive without it. The problem is, you hardly get anything in return. I was looking for an archetype to replace it for you instead of just telling you to get rid of it but I couldn't find one. The flavor is nice, but you can get the same flavor out of other mechanical choices such as putting points into charisma and charisma based skills. There are probably Rogue talents that will help with that further down the line if you're interested as well, but I can't really recommend the Rake because it doesn't really mechanically support what the fluff is supposed to do. Its fine to have a fun concept, but when they can't actually perform the way you wanted them to, roleplaying becomes sort of frustrating.

As for Jarone himself, I'm not sure how I feel about him. He seems like he could be interesting, but at the moment he's pretty bare-bones. He feels like a generic scoundrel that happens to also be in this AP. He needs more background and fleshing out beyond his campaign trait tie-in. He feels like he could be a Bard or a Swashbuckler or even a Sorcerer. Not saying that you should turn him into those things but it would be prettyreally easy to carry over his personality and history into those classes.

For more constructive criticism, you should fill in the blanks in your backstory. Why and how did he get behind enemy lines? Is "enemy lines" within the Worldwound's borders? Where is he from? Does he have a Family? What was he doing before that pivotal moment in his story (As a wee lad)? Living on the streets? Why is he a Rogue rather than a Bard? He's a fast talker, so tie some of his mischief into the narrative. I'm sure there are other things you could fill in but those were a few I could think of right now.

Make him unique, make him shine! I know you can do it, it just takes a bit of time.

Dark Archive

@Kubular': I tend to keep it general because I like developing characters in game. As for the name of the sword, I actually created it as a sentiant +2 elfbane longsword, but the gods of paizo seemed to have eaten that up and made it disappear.

But I will add more details

GM Toothy wrote:
@Me'mori: Not really sure what class you are intending to take...

Yeah, I realized that after I couldn't edit it anymore, my bad. Pyrokineticist.

Shadow Lodge

@William Nightmoon: The important thing is you're missing the campaign trait which is like the bare minimum. Also I am pretty sure the Bastard Trait is a Kingmaker Campaign Trait meaning you should switch that out.

Sovereign Court

Here is the evil scentiant sword:

Blade of the Hunted:

(Raizghoul) +2 elfbane adamantium longsword
Alignment: NE
Int:14 Wis:12 Cha:16
Senses and Communication:DV 60ft, hearing,
Telepathy,
Languages: Infernal, common, abyssal, Pyro
Powers:(CL= weilder's hitdie)can cast Wall of fire 3/day, can cast guidance at will, 10 ranks in Bluff.
Purposes:to hunt down and kill the line of an ancient elven lord who's name is lost in history.
Dedicated power: Cast transformation at will on weilder, can detect dedicated target up to 40ft away

Item quirks: the sword is completely insane. It acts irrationally and justifies things with weird explanations. When killing people, it laughs insanely in everyone's head.

History: the blade was forged by Devils in the early years of recorded history, to slay an elven king. The blade was lost for millennium, but a unwarry group of adventures found it and it took control of the individual who possesed it.

Now to be nice, I fully intend that this blade not be introduced early on!

@Kubular:Thanks for the input. I admit that sometimes my backgrounds can be a little lacking in some details. I'm just never sure how much to put down as a lot of GMs I've seen don't want a long background to read through. As for the archetype, it wasn't that I wanted to replace the trap abilities of a rogue, but more to do with the bonus I'd start getting at 3rd level to Diplomacy and Bluff. But you're right, it's not a lot, mechanically, to compare with the trap-based abilities. I might look at other archetypes but I'll probably stay a vanilla Unchained rogue.

Still not sure what kind of weapon to use, might just wait to see if I get chosen and pick based on the rest of the party.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but it really depends on the character itself as to how much I write for a background. Some characters write themselves and I know a fair amount about their past and what they think about things before the game even starts. Others are a little more of a blank slate that I prefer to fill in as the game progresses, though I do still try to at least have a few general things like where they were born and such.

And speaking of characters I hope to have mine finished within the next day or two :)

Silver Crusade

well I must admit I have not taken the time to really delve into the back stories of the others.

but Sabrina is here for review by others. I am sure there will be plenty of issues or questions that can be answered.

also any that may be looking to work on connecting back stories, I am sure I can work with most. (not all mind you)

Aye Taus here is also up for review... I should let you know his future self will be using a darkwood magical tower shield. He'll be able to boost others ac by his shield ac.

@DekoTheBarbarian: I fully agree with Kubular and following his advice is good way to go.

@Me'mori: Added to the list!

Sabrina brought a good point about connecting backgrounds... not that I'm against it, but it would be better if you think about it only after being selected.

Once selected I'll work with you to finish the PCs, like making connections, allowing minor changes to avoid overlapping, etc.

Should have an updated background up sometime tonight, hopefully. Tried to get it done yesterday but couldn't get on for like two hours or so because Paizo wouldn't load.

I'll be reworking Vindler's backstory this weekend. Decided it was too much biography and not enough story. I've got a rewrite standing by, just have to actual put it in for your eyes.

I'll let you all know when the new backstory is up so you can check it out/give tips/tricks/critiques/funny anecdotes etc.

Interested and working on a cleric concept.

Here is my application: Bertholdt Escheus a cleric of Iomedae who did not do his asmodean parents very proud.

Let me know if you have questions or comments.

I like to leave holes in my character backgrounds so that GMs can play around with them if they like (I had a cleric from Rise of the Runelords who actually met the BBEG as a kid and inspired him to take his current class... and I only figured that out when the GM had Nualia straight up tell me during the showdown). Azzerix is one of those kind of characters; he's sort of enigmatic, which means I can play with him a little more loosely as I go along.

There's a typo here Azzerix - you wrote 'enigmatic' when you meant to write 'insane'. :P

Okay this is SCKnightHero1 here, and this is my new character I'm submitting: Nella Wolfeye, a divine hunter of Erastil and her wolf companion, Scareye. If selected, Nella's grandfather could serve as a potential new villain to add to the ranks of the Worldwound enemies the party could face. Just an idea.

Sovereign Court

Well, I already have a killer sentient sword. Sure, the sword can be weilded by whoever another player's enemy is, but the sword is off the wall insane. Think deadpool on steroids, and not as funny.

Still adding her, so she's a WIP, but I'd like to toss this character in for consideration: an elf seeking her brightness, and redemption.

Hello!

I've got a couple of different characters to propose.

----------

The first is Kaede, a Kellid menhir savant druid whose grandmother was instrumental in the creation of the wardstones on the border of the Worldwound, and who has inherited a mystical connection to the spirits of Sarkoris, the nation now consumed by the Abyss. She is now getting ready to assume the duty she inherited along with her mystical abilities, traveling along the line of wardstones to monitor and maintain them, and is in Kenabres preparing to set out with her horse Pakad, who she raised from a foal (and whose company she prefers to most people).

She can be somewhat prickly and harbors a fair bit of resentment and prejudice toward the Mendevian crusaders (who, in all fairness, have displayed their own prejudices in spades). But she's steadfastly loyal to those who finally manage to break through her shell, and dedicated to reclaiming Sarkoris above all else, even if it means working with the southerners - though she doesn't have to like it.

(She has been used in another game before this that explored similar themes, so you can get a fair taste of her personality and roleplaying style. This also means, though, that she's in big need of a mechanical rework, since at the moment she's built for level 5 and lost her horse in story-related circumstances.)

----------

The other character is not nearly so well-defined yet, but will be one of the Sarkorian "god-callers", summoners whose eidolons are seen as manifestations of clan gods. Most of her clan was killed in the initial upheaval of the Worldwound, and the rest has been whittled away by later demon attacks and the Bloodwater Betrayals, leaving her calling the god of a clan that no longer lives except through her. As a result, she's decided to go all-in on the fight against the demons, with her god Altariel urging her to the fight and no familial duties to hold her in Gundrun, where she's been staying with other Sarkorian refugees.

Mechanically, she'll be an unchained summoner with some kind of good-aligned eidolon, probably an agathion for the vaguely bestial attributes to reinforce its status as a shamanic god to her.

EDIT: Here's her profile in progress: Arrika Telryn Neverrun

There's a typo here Azzerix - you wrote 'enigmatic' when you meant to write 'insane'. :P

Hey, if you look at a white kobold with sorcerous power and a superiority complex and don't wonder how he got that way, that is CLEARLY your fault!
