Erin Alegra |
If Ashur lands the grapple, full attack. If he does not I will wait for him to move and do the 5 foot tango for flanks, then full attack.
"Well unfortunately for him I do not deal with betrayal very well."
Erin replies as she attempts to bury both blades into the sorcerer's back.
Attack 1 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 (Bless, Flank)
Damage 1 1d6 + 5 + 4d6 ⇒ (3) + 5 + (4, 3, 6, 6) = 27 (Flank)
Attack 2 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 (Bless, Flank)
Damage 2 1d6 + 3 + 4d6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (6, 2, 6, 5) = 23 (Flank)
GM thunderspirit |
Oh, I thought it was resilient sphere and I couldn't touch him. In that case, I'll would have grappled him. Can I retcon?
Usually I frown on going back in time, but in this case I presume Ashur would've realized the sphere wasn't stopping him and reached in for the grapple, as it fits his MO.
Grapple = 29 is successful. No AoO as he is not currently armed.
Both of Erin's attacks bounce off some unseen force around the sorcerer, though.
He attempts to cast within the grapple:
Concentration check (DC 28): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
Marduk still has his readied fireball for certain; Amira, you might wish to not use the dispel magic.
GM thunderspirit |
Or not. LOL
Ashur does not need to make a DC 17 Will save. :-)
PCs are up.
Amira El-Amin |
I will redact it, then.
Marduk Beastblood |
Marduk will throw the fireball anyway.
Ashur Glaber |
Thanks a bunch.
Ashur goes for the pin. "You're done, traitor."
1d20 + 14 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 14 + 5 = 34
Erin Alegra |
Erin attempts to finish off the traitor before he gets any spells off.
Attack 1 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 (Bless, Flank)
Damage 1 1d6 + 5 + 4d6 ⇒ (2) + 5 + (4, 2, 5, 4) = 22 (Flank)
Attack 2 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 (Bless, Flank)
Damage 2 1d6 + 3 + 4d6 ⇒ (6) + 3 + (2, 2, 5, 5) = 23 (Flank)
Confirm 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 (Bless, Flank)
Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
GM thunderspirit |
Oh, this looks like fun. :-)
Ashur pins the sorcerer.
Erin's first attack strikes the same invisible force as before, but her second attack draws blood.
Then, Marduk sends his fireball in.
Sorcerer save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Bloodied and burned, but still quite alive.
Refl saves from Ashur and Erin too, please.
Marduk Beastblood |
I should be able to toss it in the corner to avoid hitting Ashur and Erin.
Amira El-Amin |
Marduk is using his selective rod, no? You should be fine, unless Marduk wants friendly fire in the most literal of terms, do ho ho.
GM thunderspirit |
Well, Ashur has the Sorcerer grappled, meaning he never took the five-foot away before; he's still in the flank between Ash and Erin. So it's theoretically possible to miss one, but you won't be able to miss both.
Marduk Beastblood |
I didn't actually use the rod because the group is positioned in a way that it shouldn't be necessary. If it is, I'll use a charge off the rod.
Marduk Beastblood |
Sorry. =P
GM thunderspirit |
I'm good with using the rod. No damage to Ashur then.
Are you telling me I do not get to write the big angry friendly fire rant I never had to opportunity to drop on Rosham? lmao.
That's up to Marduk, isn't it? ;-)
Trying to cast while pinned:
Concentration DC 29: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25
GM thunderspirit |
Now where's that reroll shirt...?
PCs up.
Marduk Beastblood |
Marduk moved toward the melee while tucking the rod back into his pack.
Ashur Glaber |
Ashur wrenches the traitor's neck like a cravat.
Grapple: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (17) + 19 = 36
1d3 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Erin Alegra |
Attack 1 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 (Bless, Flank)
Damage 1 1d6 + 5 + 4d6 ⇒ (2) + 5 + (5, 2, 6, 1) = 21 (Flank)
Attack 2 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 (Bless, Flank)
Damage 2 1d6 + 3 + 4d6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (2, 2, 6, 1) = 15 (Flank)
Confirm 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 (Bless, Flank)
Damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 (Flank)
Erin continues to stab the pinned caster with her swords.
GM thunderspirit |
Ashur and Erin finish the traitorous Ascalar Vruul off.
Ascalar:
- two potions (bear's endurance (CL 6th) & cure serious wounds)
- four wands (false life (CL 10th) 7 charges, mage armor 19 charges, shield (CL 5th) 5 charges, spontaneous immolation 15 charges)
- cloak, headband, ring (resistance +2, alluring charisma +2, protection +1
dwarf:
- three potions (cure moderate wounds, cure serious wounds (x2)
- battleaxe +1
- headband (inspired wisdom +2)
plus a silver holy symbol of Abadar.
Ashur Glaber |
Ashur feels the familiar snap of the traitor's neck followed by the slump as Vruul's body goes limp. He lets it fall to the floor as the group strips the pair of their gear.
Amira El-Amin |
How many charges on the wands?
Amira moves over to the cleric's remains and begins looking for identification. "It looks like I've got to report one of mine as 'indefinitely incapacitated'. Toshi! Come over here prepare her for transportation to the Grand Bank." pointing to the pile of ash.
Ashur Glaber |
"This guy was a double agent working for Torch. About a month ago, he went rogue and killed five fellow agents. I was told to find him and end him to avenge the ones he betrayed."
Amira El-Amin |
"... and, yes, it's perfectly legal under the Adventurer's Rights Act for us to take everything they had on their person/in close-by containers that were previously theirs on behalf of the Society, since the space's entrance is owned by the Decemvirate," Amira says, answering a question that was never asked.
Marduk Beastblood |
Marduk got closer to survey his work.
"Is it against Abadaran code to call things what they are? In this case, dead."
Amira El-Amin |
"Is it against Abadaran code to call things what they are? In this case, dead."
"In a legal sense, it's preferred that a healer licensed by the faith pronounce individuals dead." She looks at the obviously incinerated. "Though in this case, I don't think I'm really needed to do that.
GM thunderspirit |
Though the antechamber seems packed with treasures, it doesn't take an 8th level Cleric of Abadar to reveal that most of the items are of little true worth. Next to marble statuettes and goldpainted idols proudly stand clay bowls, wooden childrens' toys, old shoes, and common tools made of bronze and tin. This room resembles the holy First Vault of Abadar, where the god keeps a perfect copy of everything.
With your auto-Perception, you easily spot what you believe to be the child's wooden training katana mentioned as an aid to the reattunement ritual.
Amira El-Amin |
Amira an 8th level cleric of Abadar informs the group that "Most of this isn't highly valuable, unless perhaps Hao Jin had some kind of emotional attachment to these items. And Toshi, mark off the sword on the your list." She says, taking a sword from the pile.
Toshi proves incapable of this clearly simple task.
What of the other items? 1 ivory statuette 1 golden brick (that I'm not sure we need or not), and a set of onyx merchant’s scales.
GM thunderspirit |
Perception checks from Erin and Amira, please.
Amira El-Amin |
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28
GM thunderspirit |
After about 10 minutes of searching, Erin is about to throw up her hands when she sees a pair of figurines sculpted of malachite.
In the same time frame, Amira is able to locate an ivory statuette of the lich Takaral, a golden brick taken from the city of Axis, and a set of onyx merchant's scales.
Toshi takes careful stock of these things, then holds the Codex out to Amira expectantly.
GM thunderspirit |
Your Perception checks are also sufficient to see a pair of 18-foot-tall solid iron double doors directly across from the entry hallway.
Toshi Ibi |
Toshi points towards the large double doors as if they were some kind of secret, while trying to pawn off his job of carrying this really heavy book.
"Perhaps that is the way to the next room?"
Erin Alegra |
In that case....haha.
Sleight of Hand 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
Erin waits for Amira to be on the opposite end of the hall and engaged in conversation before lifting the figurines, then she heads to the doors to examine them.
Amira El-Amin |
I'm guessing I'm just using the first perception, then applying distance mods?
Amira looks to Ashur. "Yes. Barring spells, we're as prepared as we will ever be for this ritual."
GM thunderspirit |
I believe Amira-sensei will need to carry this really hea...um, this not-at-all heavy book to open the doors before us and to conduct the ritual.
Amira El-Amin |
"He's clearly learned the art of 'potential loophole insinuation'." Toshi gets a half-glare. Hitting myself with Soothing Touch to remove sickened before carrying this tome.
GM thunderspirit |
When Amira takes the Abysium Codex, she is immediately innately aware that touching the book to the 18-foot-tall solid iron double doors will open them. At least she now understands why Toshi decided to be heard and not seen at this point.
