    The centipede is still a vermin, but has been twisted by the demonic influence of the forest. You get two pieces of info.

    Glaurung moves up and breathes fire at the creature. The gigantic centipede manages to dodge the majority of the blast and it's hard carapace seems to deflect much of the rest of the flame!

    Gannus moves up to the beast and strikes out with his sword, but like Glaurung's fire, the blade does not seem to do much damage.

    Hawthorne fires three arrows in quick succession, but they all fly wide as he tries to zero in on the gigantic target.

    The centipede moves forward trampling the heroes, before moving back toward its original position.

    Normally it takes a full-round to diplomacy in combat. This scenario has a special circumstance that allows you to do it as a standard for some reason.


    Don't ask me, I'm just repeating what the text says. :) Honestly I didn't think Diplomacy worked in combat because the skill description says it takes a full minute to shift a creatures attitude. That is why I thought they called it a special Diploma roll.

    That was my confusion, cos I know it *should* take a full minute to do a Diplomacy check, and this centipede thing isn't likely to let us live three rounds, let alone ten.

    Diplomacy ain't Hawthorne's forté, not by a long shot. Then again, lately it hasn't been shooting arrows either, so...

    Another shower of arrows falls upon the party from the elves, this time every arrow finding its mark.

    Samhain attacks the centipede, letting loose a barrage of arrows. Three of the arrows hit, but once again, non seem to do the damage expected.

    Buho dive bombs the centipede, but it manages to evade the owl's attack.

    Hawthorne calls out to the elves, entreating the party's good intentions, but his pleas seem to fall on deaf ears.
