Mikhaere |
Mikhaere joins Donkey Teeth in the discordant celebration, playing what could only be described as a monstrous tune meant to awaken the dead (or else put everyone to the grave). He seems to be amused by the affair, least of all because it was no doubt giving a shock to all the residents of the city around him.
"Maestro Donkey Teeth, the world shall never again hear a melody so beautiful," he comments dryly, waiting for his spell to finish and his frog-legs to shimmer back to normal. When they are about to do so, Mikhaere leapfrogs off of the organ and lands on the ground, all bird man again.
"Let's go."

Scene V: The Pyramid of the Dog
You approach the ruined siege towers that form the Pyramid of the Dog. You can see that three outer towers have collapsed in and rest on one central tower, from which a siege bridge extends out into the air twenty feet up. The door to the central tower is guarded by a huge and mean-looking dog tethered to a pole. Figures can be seen lurking in the doorway of the outer towers.
You win initiative. Go!
Mikhaere |
Mikhaere grimaces upon seeing the poor old dog chained to a pole. Humans could be so cruel to their animal companions...
"Try taking out the guys on top first," the tengu suggests as he grabs his sling. "I can probably deal with the dog afterwards... He doesn't need to be harmed."
Move: Moving 6 squares W and drawing my sling while I move.
Move: Load sling with a bullet.
Garret Shadowcaller |
If it's okay, I'd like to retcon Garret having stealthed on the way to the pyramid (moving full speed via Swift as Shadows racial trait, so he won't slow people down more than normal) and having Machaero unsummoned...time to play around with being a stealthed summoner.

B's attack on Mikhaere: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 191d8 ⇒ 5
C's attack on Garret: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The man in the nearest side tower backs up and fires his light crossbow, skewering the summoned eagle and pinning it to the far wall. It fades back to the Celestial realms. The two others come running, taking up positions under cover of the walls and opening fire. On hits Mikhaere in the right side, a solid, painful blow. The dog lunges forward, straining at its chain.
Mikhaere has taken 5 points of damage.
Anyone, go!
Mikhaere |
"Ow! That hurt, you bastard!" Mikhaere yells, rubbing his side where the crossbow bolt scraped by. With a one-eyed squint, he aims his sling up at the fellow on the pyramid and fires a bullet aimed at his forehead.

Mikhaere, War Hounder A has total cover from you where he is.
Rekkr, your target is dead. New orders, please.
Dog's Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Garret's summoned eagle rakes the eyes from the War Hounder's face. The man falls, screaming.
The huge dog ignores Donkey Teeth's soothing charms.
Mikhaere, Rekkr, please resubmit orders.
Mikhaere |
Same as above, but I will move SE-SE-SE-E-E and attack B instead. And, obviously, no reload.

War Hounder A v. Donkey Teeth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 141d4 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
War Hounder D v. Mikhaere: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 161d8 ⇒ 6
War Hounder E v. Mikhaere: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 1 - 4 = 11d8 ⇒ 3
Nessian v. Rekkr: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 181d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Mikhaere's shot lays out the War Hounder hiding to the east just before Rekkr runs up to him. Barking and snarling, the dog lunges towards Rekkr, but his chain won't let him get all the way there.
The War Hounder in the western tower moves out of the tower, swinging his barbed "dog teeth" gauntlet at Donkey Teeth. The blow appears solid, but skitters off the little wayang's magical wards.
The door to the central tower opens and two War Hounders fire crossbows at Mikhaere. While one bolt never leaves the tower, slamming into the wall near the doorway, the other strikes Mikhaere, injuring the Tengu even worse.
Then, at the top of the central tower, a figure appears on the siege bridge that leads out into empty space (see bottom of map) and fires a big composite longbow at Rekkr, striking the barbarian squarely in the chain shirt over his chest.
"Worthless whelps!" he cries. "You'll not live long enough to rue the day you challenged me!"
Mikhaere took another 6 points of damage. Rekkr took only 2 (after his Damage Resistance).
Anyone, go!
Mikhaere |
Swearing loudly and bleeding from a number of bolt wounds now, Mikhaere reaches for the simple brown wand kept affixed to his dark leather belt and hastily taps himself with it. Soothing blue energy runs up his arm and completely seals the newest wound and even soothes some of the bruising from much earlier in the day.

Mikhaere |
Garret, you can't have more than one summon spell from your SLA in play at one time. The creatures from the first use will immediately disappear if you summon a second.
BTW - Sorry for always nit-picking you, but SO many people get the Summoner rules wrong and that plays into the perception that the class is stupidly OP. It's strong enough without broken rules!
Garret Shadowcaller |
Gah, you're right, of course, and thanks. I keep on forgetting that he's not the master summoner I'd first created - I had a particular form of play in mind, and when that went out the window, I should have looked more closely at what exactly that changed. Edited above post to remove Eagle 2.
Tarondor |
War Hounder A's Will Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4 Yeahhhhno.
As Mikhaere heals himself with the wand, Donkey Teeth glares at his attacker, cursing him. This curse lasts only seconds before Garret's summoned eagle slashes the man's eyes and throat. The thug drops to the ground, bleeding out.
Rekkr, still your turn.

Ignoring the big hound, Rekkr charges towards the tower's doorway. The dog lunges at him, sinking its fangs into his left thigh and drawing blood. The animal tries to pull him down, but Rekkr pulls free and keeps on going, and drives his greatsword into the guts of the War Hounder thug at the door.
The second thug drops his crossbow and runs at Rekkr, slashing with his "dog claws". "Aw, man, you gonna die for that!" he yells. But he proves no more adept in combat than any of Nessian's thugs. His claws momentarily stick in the wood of the doorway.
The dog follows hot on Rekkr's heels and proves far more dangerous. Again it sinks its fangs into Rekkr's leg (the right one this time). Again it fails to drag him down. Rekkr is now badly injured.
Meanwhile, Nessian continues to fire down at Mikhaere. The crimelord is a poor shot, it appears, and another arrow slams into the dirt at the tengu's feet.
Rekkr takes another 12 points of damage (after Damage Reduction x2)

Donkey Teeth moves to the corner of the west tower and stares at the dog. The beast is only discomfited by the curse for a few seconds.
Rekkr kills the last of the War Hounders barring his way into the tower and steps over the man's corpse.
Garret summons yet another celestial eagle, which, along with Mikhaere, claws at the furious dog.
The dog turns on the larger of the two avians with blood in its eyes, but its snarling bite grabs only a few feathers. Nessian cements his position as "worst archer in the pyramid" by putting yet another arrow into the dirt beside Mikhaere.

Mikhaere seems most distressed as he pushes away from the dog's jaws, and it is with a resigned sigh that he weakly scratches and bites at it. When he catches a grip on the dog's flesh, he mutters an apology, not wanting to look in its eyes as he does the abominable deed.
If the dog goes down, I will 5-foot step into its location.
If it goes down before my action from Garret's attacks, I will move up behind Rekkr and poke him with my CLW wand instead.

Garret Shadowcaller |
Garret orders his eagle to attack Nessian, then runs as fast as he can to get into the tower.
