Feast of Ravenmoor | Dead Man's Debt

More questions for you all! (There's a lot of background information feeding in to this scenario).

How many Scarab Sage boons do you have? (Obviously if you're not a Scarab Sage the answer should be zero).

How many feats, traits, or class features do you have that impose a code of conduct on you?

Do you speak Draconic? Do you have any other dragon-themed feat, trait, or class feature? (If so how many?)

How many languages do you speak, not counting your racial languages?

Before we go any further (read: Before I forget), Enora and I should sit down and compare spellbooks. I'd be happy to lend you mine for copying, if you'll do the same. It would take quite a bit of time, probably the better part of a day, if we have a day to spare.

Here's a refresher on those rules, since I always forget what they are:

Copying spells into a spellbooks:

Time
The process takes 1 hour per spell level. Cantrips (0 levels spells) take 30 minutes to record.

Space in the Spellbook
A spell takes up one page of the spellbook per spell level. Even a 0-level spell (cantrip) takes one page. A spellbook has 100 pages.

Materials and Costs
The cost for writing a new spell into a spellbook depends on the level of the spell, as noted on the following table. Note that a wizard does not have to pay these costs in time or gold for spells he gains for free at each new level.

0th - 5 gp
1st - 10 gp
2nd - 40 gp
3rd - 90 gp

@Vordrek: Feel free to check her spell book (see my profile). But Enora only has 247 gp so if you have suggestion on spells she should copy please feel free to tell me. I would definitely take magic missile. ;-)

It's up to you-- evocations don't seem to be Enora's forte, which rules out most of Vordrek's spellbook. She might like twilight knife though, it's both offense and support.

Feast of Ravenmoor | Dead Man's Debt

Enora is an iconic, and thus unable to add anything to her spellbook :(

However, Vordrek is free to peruse Enora's spellbook and scribe anything new, subject to the usual Spellcraft checks (which I hope he'd succeed at by taking 10). You will not have time to do so before departing for Resa though. But should you survive, you are all good!

Vordrek code of conduct:
I don't quite agree with you on the code of conduct question. Cleric prd entry under "Ex-clerics" says: "A cleric who grossly violates the code of conduct required by her god loses all spells and class features, except for armor and shield proficiencies and proficiency with simple weapons. She cannot thereafter gain levels as a cleric of that god until she atones for her deeds (see the atonement spell description)." Nethys can strip you of spells and powers if you act in a way that grossly violates his wishes. I should think it is highly unlikely that a mystic theurge would do so, since Nethys is all about the magic. But if you did, well your god is plenty capable of withdrawing his favour from you. In any event you may be assured that my opinion in this matter does not disadvantage you right now, and if I happen to think you are proposing an action that might "grossly violate" Nethys' wishes I will let you know and ask you if you want to confirm or otherwise explain to me how Nethys would be perfectly happy.

Enora will copy

30 gp: 3 x 1st: burning hands, feather fall, magic missile
40 gp: 1 x 2nd: aggressive thundercloud

Enora will additionally purchase:
50 gp: Potion of 'touch of sea'
25 gp: Scroll of grease
25 gp: Scroll of true strike
50 gp: 2 x Scroll of shield
25 gp: Protection from evil

245 gp spent

GM:
Yes, fair point. I was going off of the mechanics perspective that Vordrek is not prohibited from any specific actions (like casting evil-descriptor spells, like a cleric of a goodly god, or using poisons, like a paladin). And since Nethys is neutral but described as not especially concerned with morality (unlike, say, Gozreh), I would say there's very little he's opposed to. But you're right, I guess that is a restriction.

Ok, cool. Vordrek can definitely take 10 on Spellcraft for each of those, but I'll wait until the end of the adventure.

I'd like to copy color spray, ear-piercing scream, expeditious retreat, grease, liberating command, mount, obscuring mist, reduce person, unseen servant, vanish, alter self, bear's endurance, false life, glitterdust, invisibility, knock, mirror image, pyrotechnics, fly, and haste for a total of 32 hrs of work and 600 gp.

Enora, sadly there isn't time before you set out for your destination for you to copy spells. And afterwards there will be no benefit in doing so, because as an Iconic pre-gen Enora's sheet resets between adventures. Your scroll and potion purchases are fine though.

Rogar and Kramac, just need your answers now.

Thanks, then she will buy another two scrolls of protection from evil! ;-)

He is an inquisitor of Kurgess, so whatever code comes along with that. I don't think its as strict as the Paladin code, but the Paladin code for Kurgess is:

Fairness and good sportsmanship are testaments to one’s virtue. I must set the finest example of what it means to be sporting and noble in challenges of strength and honor.
A challenge that is won unfairly is not a challenge won. I am no cheat, and I will lose any contest of brawn, honor, or mettle rather than resort to knavery or trickery.
Frauds have no place among true competitors. In contests of import and high-stakes trials, I will unrelentingly reveal the untruthful and deliver them to their proper justice.
Winning and losing are two sides of the same coin, and both are worthy of acknowledgment. I treat champions with respect, but honor losers for their courage and willingness to challenge themselves.
I respectfully seek tutelage from my betters, give honest guidance to the less accomplished, and cherish most of all my friendships with rivals whose skill matches my own.
Every day is a contest to better oneself, and every deed undertaken is an opportunity to condition my allies and myself for the trials ahead.

Do you speak Draconic? Do you have any other dragon-themed feat, trait, or class feature? (If so how many?) No, no dragon related class features or feats

How many languages do you speak, not counting your racial languages?

Feast of Ravenmoor | Dead Man's Debt

You should all now be able to see simplified character sheets for the five Jeweled Sages in the slides and handouts (link is above my avatar and at the top of the page; see slides 6-10).

At various stages during this adventure one or more Sages may be available to you. The character sheets describe what they can do. Each has a melee attack and/or a ranged attack. If a Sage attacks, he or she does the damage listed. Sages don't make full attacks and don't roll to hit.

Each sage also has a number of special abilities, with check-off boxes. Each use fills a box, and when all the boxes are filled the ability is no longer available during the adventure.

You will notice the Torch has an ability called "well prepared" - this is in addition to the goods he already brought you. When Torch is with you, you can ask him for any potion or scroll (but not other consumables) until the 1500gp limit has been reached.

Each Sage also has a number of modifiers listed under "Investigation": at relevant points of the adventure if a Sage is with you, you can add those modifiers to any skill checks you attempt. The Sages do not roll separate skill checks themselves.

If you have any (out of character) questions about the Sages or their sheets, post here.

Managing immediate actions like Liberating Command in a pbp can be tricky. I'll be flexible as much as possible, but I want you to know in advance that there are parts of this scenario that are extremely complex and retconning may not always be practical if you miss an opportunity. Best solution: check in often! ;)

Thanks so much GM for clarifying and Rogar for spending your spell on me!!!

Enora, Prescience is not a reroll. You choose to use the Prescience number instead of rolling the die.
Hi GM, that is what I did. :-) I rolled 12 as a result of my prescience on my turn. I used the 12 instead of the 7 and just indicated that with my +6 fort mod. this is an 18 result.

You rolled a 7 first, then decided to use your Prescient 12 instead of your initial die result. That's effectively a reroll, and isn't how Prescience works.

Enora's character sheet wrote:
Prescience 6 times per day, at the beginning of her turn, Enora can roll a d20 and then use that dice result instead of rolling any time until her next turn.

Emphasis is mine.

A quick search of the forums for Prescience shows that the "reroll" interpretation is a minority position. A search of the campaign threads for "Enora prescience" shows only one example of a player using Prescience as a reroll, with all the other instances using it by making their decisions before rolling.

I can see how the minority position was arrived at. But it is an incorrect position.

Incidentally, Enora should have 8 uses of Prescience per day (INT 20). ;-)

You are completely right! Thanks

GM, preemptive question to save time when my turn comes up again - can Kramac make an attack to destroy the claws holding Jino, thus allowing Jino to move and attack?

Feast of Ravenmoor | Dead Man's Debt

You could do that Kramac, yes. At present there are no claws hindering Jino because the positive energy wave destroyed them, but they return at the start of next round (round 4). This will mean that at the end of your turn on round 4 the grasping graves make attacks against you (well, you and/or Jino depending whether either of you is on the ground).

You'd only need to free Jino if he starts your turn grappled.

Enora you appear to have swapped character sheets. It's good to have a dedicated alias profile, but your new alias pbp sheet has the wrong hit point maximum, and you've reverted to the default spell load-out. Could you correct those please? Also, it will be very handy to keep track of your Prescience uses and arcane reservoir in your "banner" lines (class, race etc).

There are some pre-gens I really wouldn't want on this scenario, but Enora is pretty well put together.

Oh sorry!!! :-( I did not want to swap! Will be consistent now!

Karos, your Determination ability doesn't appear to give you saving throw rerolls. You can reroll an attack, gain +4 to your ac vs an attack, or force an enemy to reroll an attack. None of these abilities would help against a troop, because a troop does automatic damage and does not roll to hit..

Don't listen to him, Precious. If we doesn't listen, it isn't true. :-)
