Saphren |

And while you are a mighty dragon and all, and we certainly respect ya, if you agree they you don't have to fight us today and risk getting hurt. That's a plus right?

GM SpiderBeard |

FYI I was keeping a tally of comments that either please or enrage the dragon as you negotiate. And, well...
"The DARKLANDS?! RISK GETTING HURT?! I am the Lord of the Meirani! I am the Green Death, the Acid Breather. I am the Terror that Flaps in the Night! I will not skulk in the drow caves I have never seen and eat mushrooms and sour gnomes. Here is my offer to you, you mewling meat-sacks. The elves will die, the drow and their deranged scheme to steal my sun will die, and YOU WILL DIE!!"
Razorhorn's feet crush the stone beneath them on the balcony, and he spreads his wings to attack! Zoso, however, is quick enough to act first.
Razorhorn: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Saphren: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Brenna: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Besh: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Zoso: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Lyr: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 (+2 in surprise)

GM SpiderBeard |

The issue is the dragon would stop you going through the double doors, and attack if you approached. So you're kind of stuck in that grouped-up area. Although I'd split you up more, nobody indicated they were staying out of sight. I will put Mega-Brenna in the room and you guys in vague fighting order.

![]() |

Zoso jumps to a start as Razorhorn advances.
"The apples turn to brown and black, the tyrant's face is red.
Oh the war is common cry, pick up you swords and fly.
The sky is filled with good and bad
That mortals never know."
He sings inspiration to his allies as he moves to distance himself from the others.
Inspire Courage +2, move

Breath Weapon: 8d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 1, 3, 5, 5, 3) = 28

Brenna: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 1 = 10
Besh: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Razorhorn rises up and the expected gout of acid flies for three of the group. Lyr barely avoids the attack thanks to some cover, while Zoso just gets the hell out of the way. Brenna takes the breath weapon full on, while Saphren completely avoids the attack - Besh only partially.

Everyone is up!

Brenna Eklund |

Is that including or excluding the resist energy?
Brenna lets out a tremendous battle-whoop and smashes into the dragon. Clearly, she is excited about being large and wants to see if she can pit that against the dragon and win!
Improved overrun, raging: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31
I can't find anything specifying whether I get a bonus on overruns because of Large size. This should put me on the opposite side of him, setting up Saph to sneak attack. It seems unlikely that I'll beat his CMD by 5 (esp. since he gets +2 for having four legs) but who knows? Hope springs eternal!

GM SpiderBeard |

Before any damage reduction. You get a +1 for being large, and then your additional strength bonus.

Saphren |

So the map shows the dragon up on the ledge. Where is he now? Can Saphren attack or flank him? Saphren will try to charge him if possible, tumbling if needed, or better yet will spring attack into a flank with Brenna.
Saphren smiles wickedly as the dragon breaths. Its on. he thinks.
Acrobatics if needed: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (6) + 17 = 23
+1 Cold Iron Falchion: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 11 + 2 = 212d4 + 14 + 4d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 14 + (3, 5, 2, 2) + 2 = 33
If that his: Debilitating Injury: Disoriented -2/-4 (Ex) Foe who takes sneak attack damage takes attack penalty of _2 to hit, -4 to hit the rogue for 1 rd.
Unsure of buffs other than bard song.

Beshtori Sankral |

um, so if Resist Energy absorbs 20 damage, that means Besh is unharmed? Just checking if that's correct
Besh winds up zir throwing arm and ... "Ack! you guys...!!"
Frustrated that zir fireball plans have again been diverted, Besh quickly recalculates and
Burning Arc: 8d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3, 2, 4, 2, 3, 3) = 24
FFS - an average roll of 3?!

Lyr Scarheart |

The wings were the problem. If the dragon got airborne their chances went down a lot. It was a long shot, but Lyr pulled a canister from his bandoleer and tossed it.
Throwing a Tangleburn Bag at the dragon. So, if I hit he's entangled (half movement, which requires Fly checks to stay airborne, and a Reflex save to avoid being glued to the ground for a few rounds. And another one against the fire.
Ranged Touch Attack, point blank: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

GM SpiderBeard |

Dragon is on the balcony, 20' up. There are stairs (more clearly marked) on either side, so it's easy to get up. Brenna triggers AoO because of the stairs. Haste gives her enough movement.
Bite: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20 Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 6) + 9 = 18
Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
The huge gout of acid has little effect on the party, and Razorhorn's eyes widen as he realizes that he's facing something a little more dangeorus than the elves he's been eating.
Mega-Brenna, who towers over the young dragon, charges up the stairs to get into position! The dragon steps aside as she runs through, allowing her to pass into an excellent flanking position. He bites at her, but misses wildly as she barrels down on him. Saphren rushes up to take up the flanking position, but his falchion glances off of Razorhorn's tough scales.
Besh fires off a burning arc, which scores the first hit on Razorhorn! Lyr then follows up by sending his noxious alchemical bag at the dragon, which hits but fails to catch fire as Razorhorn avoids the worst of it.

Zoso skids to a stop for dramatic effect and continues his ballad.

Shoot straighter than before."

GM SpiderBeard |

Gah, not sure why I missed posting yesterday. Second roll has now been made - two saves, Lyr.
Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23 Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 1) + 9 = 13

Tail: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Zoso lets fly a flurry of arrows, one of which lands solidly.
With the group now moved in close, Razorhorn rears back and lets out a thunderous roar before leaping at Saphren! The dragon pounces on the rogue, biting and clawing and batting with its wings. Its mighty tail then hammers into Brenna, knocking the wind out of the barbarian.
Worse still, the impact of its roar strikes your very souls. Fear creeps into you.
Saphren takes 38 damage. Brenna takes 10 damage. You guys can make this save. Everyone must make a DC 17 will save vs fear or be frightened![/b]

Lyr Scarheart |

Looks like I'll need to throw more of those. Want to shoot it too. Guess I'll split the difference since I'm hasted.

Two Reflex saves (DC 15 vs being glued down and C 20 vs catching fire), which should both be harder since he's Entangled from the last one.

Brenna Eklund |

Is Razorhorn prone? Or did I not beat his CMD by 5? As I noted above, since I have Improved Overrun, he cannot avoid my overrun attempt.
Also, does the 10 damage include my DR 1/-?
Will save vs. fear, raging: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 2 = 10
Terrified by the dragon's sudden rage, Brenna runs away. And provokes an attack of opportunity.

Saphren |

Things have gotten a bit wonky here. Saphen nearly always spring attacks and desires to never end adjacent to an enemy as he is not fond of receiving full attacks. is AC and HP just do not support such tactics. And it looks like the 24 tail attack would miss Brenna's 25 AC even if the beast is not prone. Also IF Saphren achieved a flank, which I was not sure of at the time the attack roll would have been at +2 for the flank and so a 23, or even a 27 IF the creature was prone. I will wait to post my actual action to better understand the situation. It dragon attacks from prone then some attacks miss. If he stands he provokes and only gets one attack, right?

My bad, totally blew that save roll there, saw it but forgot when I posted. GM, your call if you want to use that first d20 as a save roll or as an arrow shot. Here is another dice though to fulfill the request either way. 1d20 ⇒ 20 well... both would succeed, one would be a crit as an attack. up to you.

GM SpiderBeard |

Need a will save if you're gonna get those arrows, Zoso. Also, Brenna has now taken a total of 38 damage rather than Saphren.
Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 111d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Lyr fires an arrow straight for Razorhorn, which slams into an exposed scale on his neck! Blood starts pouring out as he shrieks in rage. His problems are compounded as a tangleburn bag slams into his foot and bursts into flame! Razorhorn is now entangled, on fire, bleeding, and extremely pissed off.

Brenna (-38) (frightened)
Beshtori and Saphren are up! Zoso needs to make a will save before I resolve his action. Brenna gets to run like a 400 pound chicken.

Saphren |

Ok. With the retcon I think that means Saphren never closed and attacked last round right? And now he has no flanking partner so no sneak and all he can do is spring in 30', attack, and spring back out 30'. He will not provoke an AOO while spring attacking and should only take a single attack if the dragon chooses to move and attack him.
Deprived of his flanking partner Saphren darts in, takes a swing and darts back out, stopping well outside of the dragon's reach.

Brenna is completely overwhelmed by the dragon's attack and turns tail to get the hell out of there as quickly as possible. With his tank missing, Saphren becomes a very cagey opponent, leaping in to score a hit across the dragon's snout before withdrawing.
Beshtori sends out another mediocre burning arc while Lyr just continued to pelt Razorhorn with alchemical weapons to great effect. Zoso's three arrows land solidly, and Razorhorn is in serious trouble as he roars in pain. The young dragon, gummed up by the tangleburn bag, flaps down to face Zoso before biting at the elf and missing.

Razorhorn roars violently, thrashing his head around as Saphren once again lunges in, plunging his falchion into the dragon's neck. Lyr's barrage of alchemical weapons flattens Razorhorn to the ground and Zoso then rushes in, running up Razorhorn's snout before firing arrow after arrow after arrow into the open wounds caused by the others.
The roar shakes the building and Zoso is thrown off against the wall. Razorhorn rears up to breathe on the bard, but one more arrow take the dragon into the eye.
WHAMMM!
Razorhorn is dead.
End of Combat
In the distance you hear doors open and shut as Brenna continues to run and scream - and suddenly the fear wears off as the source is ended.

I think Brenna is ok. Sounds like she is just mad at herself. Saphren notes. We did well indeed Besh. This could have gone a lot worse. Lets regroup, heal up and search the rest of this place. I think the dragon claimed his treasure was not here but there might be a few nice trinkets about. Saphren begins to search the large room starting with the dragon itself and the its ledge.

![]() |

Zoso looks down at Razorhorn with a bittersweet smile, "You would have been a far greater trophy as an ally." Then turning to the others he stowes his bow and combs a hand through his hair, "I guess I need to take some lessons on negotiating, eh?"
Jumping down the bard pulls out a piece of paper and inkpen, then starts to jot down the tale and song, "No one's going to believe any of this without the right words,.. uh, any of you know how to clean a dragon?"

GM SpiderBeard |

You gather up a rather embarrassed Brenna and investigate the area in hopes of finding a giant pile of gold, or at least a small one. Unfortunately the dragon's hoard is elsewhere and he did not bring any travel supplies into the Armageddon Echo.
You have three options to continue - the ominous double doors to the north, or the two chambers in the southwest and southeast.

Lyr Scarheart |

uh, any of you know how to clean a dragon?"[/b]
"Yes." Lyr said, clearing his throat as he went to work with a skinning knife.
