Wow, let's see if we can push that even higher.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
There you are, sir. The cloak is yours. Now, in exchange, I believe my friend would love to hear about this 'Listening to the water' you do." He indicates Zlata. Suddenly he stops. "My sincerest apologies! Proper introductions were never made, and good business rests on the hallmark of decorum. I am Teric Cain." He bows and waits for the Gillman to reciprocate.

Thanks to the soothing words of Zlata and Teric, the gillman opens up a little, and even overlooks the trespass of the druid in the pool to look at the city.
"The spring which feeds this pool is a sacred site for my people. Humans had long ago been blind to this aspect when they used these caves for their profane idolatry, as shown by those carvings in the cave previous. Soon the flow of time will wash it away completely." The gillman sighs. "Perhaps I thought you more of the uncouth monstrous types which have already come in since the last cycle of the moon. I am called Uori."
As Castiel looks the diorama, he sees that it is a detailed model of Absalom. Look, there's the Starstone Cathedral! You also notice faint magical emanation as though this piece once served as an altar.

Prothero nods approvingly as Teric introduces himself, his own years at the Taldan court instilling a deep belief in the proper way of doing things. "Decorum is indeed the foundation of good relations," he says, with greater smoothness than he usually displays, "I am Prothero Crace."
Diplomacy, Aid Zlata: 1d20 ⇒ 13 If it's okay for me to pile on too.

![]() |

Castiel overhears Uori, turns around and asks.
"What kind of monsters are bothering you mate? More minotaurs?
Mighty fine model by the way. It appears to have a faint aura of magic. Could you tell us more about it?"

![]() |

"Monsters. Goblinoids, centipedes larger than the ones in here, undead, globules, all sorts on unsavoury types. No one knows why they come here, but so long as they leave us alone, we are not seen as trespassers."

![]() |

"And your people come to worship at these waters at the full of the moon? Is this a common site for them or a special pilgrimage?" Teric seems unconcerned about the mention of other monsters.

![]() |

"Well I'm sure we can make short work of them. No worries, mate, we'll solve this little monster issue."

![]() |

Uori settles in the water, seeming ready to continue his meditations. "Yes, many of our kind come here when the waters are high."

![]() |

"It is a relic from the heretical days of yore. It means nothing to us.

![]() |

"I'm sorry," responds Prothero, "it seemed you were meditating or praying to the model when we came in, but I seem to have misunderstood. If the city is a relic from long-ago days of heresy, may I ask who you worship here now?"

![]() |

"We revere the tide and the cleansing it brings."
Oh my gods, they're hippies druids!

![]() |

"Uori, we thank you for sharing your wisdom with us."
Turning to the rest of the party, Zlata continues, "I suppose, strictly speaking, we've accomplished our mission, to find out why the gillmen are here. However the mention of other creatures using the caves concerns me. I think we should explore further."

![]() |

"No, one faith is dead and done away with."
Zlata also recalls that part of their mission is to explore the caves anyway.

![]() |

"Is there anyway that we can help you here? Maybe get rid of some of the monsters?"

![]() |

Prothero considers the gillman's answer, then says, "I have to say, from the carvings we saw on the way in, I thought you were going to say you worship Aroden, which really would have surprised me."

![]() |

Teric looks at the continuation of the caves. "Uori, do you mind if we wander the caves? Do you know where these go?"

![]() |

"The monsters are of little burden to us.
"No, we do not worship that false god. We follow a truer faith.
"The caves to my right lead to a side chamber. The path to my left leads back out, though not the way you came."

![]() |

"I would understand if you feel you are too underpowered for the vermin who come here. Fear not, we have managed them before and will do so again if there ever again is a need."

![]() |

Prothero shrugs and says, "Very well, we'll explore a bit more. Let's try this side chamber to the right." With a courtly bown he gestures grandly for Zlata or Castiel to lead the way.

![]() |

Teric follows Prothero, nodding again to the man. "So caves or desert? Which do you like better? At least the desert didn't have mold."

![]() |

Prothero thinks a moment on Teric's question and responds, "Well, less chance of sunburn here, and with my bald head, that's important. But you could see what was coming in the desert, at least most of the time, which means I could put an arrow into it from a ways off. I'll tell you what, let's see what's down this passage and I'll give you my decision."

![]() |

Oh, you're talking to Prothero. Dammit, had some druidic nonsense response typed up before I noticed. Ah well.
The cave’s damp air becomes increasingly stale as you continue down through this tunnel and the stench of decay grows increasingly evident. The passage turns to the east and opens into a small cavern littered with bits of broken glass, rotting pieces of paper, and other unusable detritus. The body of a male dhampir lies facedown toward the back of the cavern and 4 skeletons clatter their way around the room.

Castiel moves up and slams away with his lucerne hammer at the first skeleton (furthest to the right of bottom 2), telling his companion to do the same.

He slams the skeleton with a mighty wallop. His companion has less success, maybe if there was some more meat on these creatures she would enjoy biting them.

Excitedly, and what could be considered foolishly, the alchemist rushes into the room and tosses a bomb at the two skeletons to the north!
Bomb at the one on the right: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 for Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Splash of 5 damage, DC 14 Reflex to half

![]() |

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
The bomb lands right in the skeleton's rib cage, sitting there a moment as the target ponders what just happened. This gives the other skeleton just enough time to take cover and only suffer mildly from the resulting explosion. The target, however, is not so lucky and is blow to pieces which can only be described as smithereens.
Zlata and Arcana are up!

![]() |

Zlata moves in, but the skeleton sidesteps away from her assault.

Unable to get a clear shot in the close quarters, Arcana moves in with her temple sword and strikes out at a skeleton.

Teric casts a healing spell but then moves past the others, seemingly intent on the skeleton to the north. He reaches out to touch the animated bones.

As the scene in the chamber becomes clear, particularly the dead dhampir's corpse, Prothero turns to Teric and says, "I think I'll have to go with desert as my preferred place. There the dead folks just talked to us from a sarcophagus, instead of rising up to smack us with their bony fists. But who knows, maybe this place will redeem itself."
He then takes a few steps forward and aims through his companions, loosing a pair of blunt-headed arrows at the skeleton facing Teric. The crowded passage proves too much, however, and his arrows thud harmlessly off the tunnel wall. "Then again, maybe not," he mutters to himself.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
The skeleton steels itself against the holy power flowing from Teric's hands!
Prothero's enthusiasm causes his arrows to skitter across the walls and floors of the stone cavern.

![]() |

Fair enough, but if I can remember things selectively, so can Prothero! ;) Plus, this sets us up to go back and give the desert another try...

![]() |

Apologies to all. Do not know if you have played the scenario in question, so spoiler tags seemed appropriate.

The alchemist shows nimble feet as he is able to avoid the attack. He then shifts to his right, drawing his rapier and attempting to somehow strike the skeleton with the narrow blade! In my rush to prepare a character for this adventure I completely forgot to buy a standard blunt instrument to wield. Oh well, at least I can flank.
Rapier: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 2 = 9 for Piercing: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Eldren strikes out, but cannot connect with the shambling bones!
Zlata, Castiel, Arcana!

Zlata once again moves in and slashes at the skeleton.

On a mobile device and can't update the map, I think Zlata should now be in the square immediately north if he skeleton.
