Welcome all, please feel free to introduce yourselves out of character here (should you wish, not mandatory) and get to know each other.

To give you inspiration of what to get started posting in the Gameplay Thread, perhaps let us know what your character was doing immediately leading up to the events posted. Or the journey to the Pig's Paunch, your characters thoughts on the situation, how you entered the bar and what you did upon arriving... that kind of thing.

Don't worry about introducing your character 'in character' to everyone just yet - Janira will be asking about this shortly.

Hello all.

Hello to all, still awaiting Little Tom who said he'll be posting after work.

I'll let him post before Janira replies to you.

Going forwards it'll be much more "Post as it comes" rather than waiting for everyone to post something, but just for the first introduction and so forth it'll be nice to have everyone involved.

Jerry: Just to confirm, your question about gillmen was to Kreighton Shane or to Janira? It wasn't really made clear by your post, but I'd assume Janira right?

Yes, to Janira

Vetis: Just so you know you can't Take 10 on a Knowledge check. Bards get that as per Loremaster at Level 5;

Quote:
Lore Master (Ex): At 5th level, the bard becomes a master of lore and can take 10 on any Knowledge skill check that he has ranks in. A bard can choose not to take 10 and can instead roll normally. In addition, once per day, the bard can take 20 on any Knowledge skill check as a standard action. He can use this ability one additional time per day for every six levels he possesses beyond 5th, to a maximum of three times per day at 17th level.

Emphasis mine.

Not an issue! Such an easy thing, we'll leave 'as is' that you rolled a 10 :)

Apologies. I had always thought that since there are skills that specifically call out never being able to take 10 with them (UMD most famously), you could do so with knowledges, just not if you are distracted or in danger such as combat (which the Lore Master ability WOULD let you do anyway).

Will be sure to roll in the future :)

Hi everyone! Looking forward to this :-)

Opse! I totally forgot to give you guys the map of "Where in the world is ̶C̶a̶r̶m̶e̶n̶ ̶S̶a̶n̶d̶i̶e̶g̶o̶ this scenario?"

Where on Golarion?
Map

The Confirmation takes place on the Isle of Kortos approximately halfway between Absalom and Diobel in the foothills of the Kortos Mounts.

So before we continue, let's setup a few things. First, I have PM'd you each a link to the Roll20 campaign. If you could sign up for accounts (should you not have one already) and then position yourself in the left hand block - this is your marching order, or formation.

It is 3x7 and will be how you move around while out of combat. Make sure to consider each other's offensive and defensive capabilities, talking through ideas in the Discussion Thread as necessary.

Next we need to set up watch order. This is for who is keeping lookout overnight, to spot for incoming danger, arranged into 3 blocks of 4 hours. Again use the Discussion Thread to volunteer for this, taking into account your relative Perception, Sense Motive, vision traits (low-light vision and dark vision) as well as special considerations such as praying for spells.

20:00-00:00 - Watch #1
00:00-04:00 - Watch #2
04:00-08:00 - Watch #3

Finally, please confirm your prepared spells and the like if necessary for your class. Anything not mentioned in your next post will be considered prepared as from your character sheets.

Liberty's Edge

M Half-Orc Cleric 1

Since Jerry has darkvision 60', he will be on Watch #2.

BTW, I cannot view Roll20 maps while at work. I will view it from home late at night.

EDITED:

Including a snapshot at the end of every turn would help, but is rather tedious. Have you thought about using the Drawing portion of docs.google.com?

Would it be helpful if I included a screenshot of the map at the end of each turn? That might at least allow you to get a sense of things while reading the posts and you can make your post and actual movements later at home?

Thanks for offering to take Watch #2!

Grand Lodge

Have Light but no Darkvision (though if we're keeping a campfire going that'd likely be as effective. Still, Vetis could journey out to investigate suspicious noises.) Vetis would be fine pairing with someone for the 3rd watch (so 4:00-8:00). Thus he's already awake and set to commune with nature for the day :)

Perception Modifier is +8, Sense Motive is +4.

In regards to a marching order, while Vetis is somewhat tough, he's not exactly strong. Preferably he would be in the middle or closer to the rear of the pack - he's not the best combatant for a rear vanguard but he can take a hit and his spells can be used from the back ranks anyway.

Also, default spells for now (and for this mission) are:
0 --- Create Water, Light, Stabilize
1 --- Obscuring Mist (D), Entangle, Cure Light Wounds

Sovereign Court

Male Halfling Ranger 1 - hp 13/13 AC; 19/15/15; Fort +5 Ref +7 Will +3; Init +6 Per +7

I have Perception +7 but no darkvision. Watch #1 or #3 would be best I think. Maybe pairing up with someone with a low Perception?

As for marching order, I don't really mind where I go. For now I have placed myself front-middle.

Scarab Sages

Male Human Barbarian 1 - 16 AC / 12 Touch / 14 flat footed - CMD 17 - HP 14 - Init +2 - Fort +4 Ref + 2 Will +1 - Perc +4 - Rage 6/6 rounds per day

I have +4 perception so not great. Would be happy to pair with someone if they want some company / protection for a watch however.

Would also happily march at the front of the pack for obvious reasons. Perhaps if Jerry is happy to do so we can walk side by side to ensure neither one of us gets hit by everything at once?

Liberty's Edge

M Half-Orc Cleric 1

Yes, Jerry will walk by your side at the front.

I have a perception of +6 and would be willing to take any of the watches. However I only have low-light. But luckily this is right near a fool moon so there should be plenty of moonlight for me to see tonight.

So you can put me in watch 2 if that helps.

Please add that snap shot as well so i can tell you what i am doing i only have a work phone and cannot download apps and will study immediately after dinner and then take first watch w low light and would take the pair up with Oktavian

I have a plus thirteen perception in the dark and my owl has plus ten so uses mine and I always go in the surprise round (grins wickedly)

Yep no problem, I'll post the maps up as we go.

Currently there is no gameplay map, but here is the Marching Order Map

Alister if you could let me know where you would like to be placed, I'll the place Janira to round out the group. Jerry I have placed you next to Oktavian as you requested, if you would like to be on his other side just let me know.

Thank you all for sorting the Watch Orders, we have;

20:00-00:00 - Watch #1 : Oktavian (+4 Perc, +0 SensM) and Alister (Low-light, +10 Perc, +3 SensM)
00:00-04:00 - Watch #2 : Jerry (Dark vision, +3 Perc, +3 SensM) and Narnel (Low-light, +6 Perc, -1 SensM)
04:00-08:00 - Watch #3 : Vetis (Light spell, +13 Perc, +4 SensM) and Tom (Fav Enemy Human, +7 Perc, +1 SensM)

Lazy Janira not taking any of the watches!

Haha, that is a good point. Maybe she joined Oktavian and Alister and forced them both to listen to even more stories!

place me in the middle of the party for marching order also in shadows and darkness my owl gives me a +3 to perception so I have a 13 perception at night or in shadows and darkness thanks to Corneleus...

Yep I gave you +13 Perc for Watch #3 :) Have placed you in the middle, and placed Janira central too.

Updated Marching Order Map

How do you guys feel about my 'recaps' of the combat turns? My latest was pretty much just a copy/paste of your individual turns placed into an order that made sense.

However, I've tried putting them together into more of a story which maybe you guys prefer? My writing isn't exactly that of a wordsmith but in my mind at least it feels more natural and descriptive.

It does mean however taking a little creative liberty with your turn descriptions, in order to fit a narrative.

Here is the 'story' version of the latest turn, and the original for your convenience.

Story-like combat recap:

Vetis feels a twinge of shame as his stone flies wildly off the mark, whirling off into the forest. He has little time to mope, as suddenly the first hippogriff is upon them. It rakes and claws at Alister, each swipe dancing in front of his eyes as he tries to back away. Little Tom’s arrow sits buried in its chest, blood now pouring from the wound and staining it’s once regal feathers.

Oktavian roars in anger at seeing the hippogriff tearing at Alister, and a fire seems to ignite behind his eyes.

"Get back!" he shouts, "This one is mine!"

Baring his teeth in fury, he steps forward and swings his massive falchion in a reckless arc, as if uncaring about his own life.

"Die!" he bellows at it, as his weapon comes cleaving down across the upper body of the creature, tearing through its back and wing. It gives a cry of pain and crumples to the ground, bleeding out onto the mossy forest floor, still and motionless. Alister blanches having seen his life rush before his eyes.

The remaining young hippogriff lets loose a cry of fury and sorrow at the loss of its brother.

"Dang, we must have wandered into this pair's territory. Let's see if we can drive them off," Narnel remarks.

Calmly stepping up next to the tree in front of him, he unlimbers his longbow and fires at the creature, just as Jerry moves up to intercept it.

Wiping sprayed blood from his eye, Vetis tries quickly to follow behind Jerry, taking a moment to shake off his stunned surprise at Oktavian's fury. Maintaining her bardic performance, Janira also moves up - unstrapping her crossbow from her back and slotting a bolt.

"Well done Oktavian! As Marcos Farabellus once told me, sometimes a single strike is all it takes," she calls to him.

Finally recovering from his shock, Alister launches an arrow at the creature. His shot flies wide and strikes upon the tree to its side, the blow sending a scattering of wood bark into the hair. He calls out to his owl familiar, "Stay hidden, and do not be so brave!"

Pleased with himself after landing his last arrow, Little Tom runs forward trying to get a clear shot at the second hippogriff. He makes ready his bow, but waits until an opportune moment before releasing his shot.

Whipped into a frenzy, the juvenile hippogriffs screech can be heard piercing through the forest, and in the distance a group of birds can be heard scattering into the sky. It charges at Jerry, throwing caution to the wind as it throws itself upon him.

Yet Vetis is ready, unleashing his elemental control of the weather. Instantaneously a black-grey cloud appears and buffets the hippogriff with wind and driving rain. A single bolt of lightning darts forth from the cloud, blasting out towards the beast as it powers forwards. The hippogriff only narrowly dodges the bolt in time before it comes bearing down on Jerry. Wet and fire-blackened feathers fall from the animals wings, as it hooks into Jerry and scratches across his forearms. Blood flows openly from his wounds.

Copy/Paste combat recap:

Vetis feels a twinge of shame as his stone flies wildly off the mark, but he has little time to mope as suddenly the first hippogriff is upon them.

It rakes and claws at Alister, yet Little Tom’s arrow threw off its charge and it's slashes miss their mark.

Oktavian roars in anger at seeing the hippogriff tearing at Alister, and a fire seems to ignite behind his eyes.

"Get back!" he shouts. "This one is mine!"

Baring his teeth in fury, Oktavian steps forward and swings his massive falchion in a reckless arc, as if uncaring about his own life.

The remaining young hippogriff lets loose a cry of fury and sorrow at the loss of its brother.

Focused on the beasts sibling Narnel remarks, "Dang, we must have wandered into this pair's territory. Let's see if we can drive them off."

He calmly steps up next to the tree in front of him, unlimbers his longbows and fires at the creature, as Jerry moves up to intercept it.

Shaking off his stunned surprise at Oktavian's ferocity, Vetis tries to quickly follow Jerry while wiping some of the sprayed blood from his eye.

Maintaining her bardic performance, Janira moves up - unstrapping her crossbow from her back and slotting a bolt.

"Well done Oktavian! As Marcos Farabellus once told me, sometimes a single strike is all it takes."

Alister blanches having seen his life rush before his eyes and then aims and shoots his bow again. He also tells Cornelius to stay hidden and not be so brave.

Pleased with himself after landing his last arrow, Little Tom runs forward trying to get a clear shot at the second hippogriff and readies his bow.

Whipped into a frenzy, the remaining hippogriff charges at Jerry, throwing caution to the wind as it throws itself upon him.

Vetis is ready, unleashing his elemental control of the weather. Instantaneously a black-grey cloud appears and buffets the hippogriff with wind and driving rain. A single bolt of lightning darts forth from the cloud, which the hippogriff only narrowly dodges in time before it comes bearing down on Jerry. Wet and fire-blackened feathers fall from the animals wings, as it hooks into Jerry and scratches across his forearms.

What do you prefer, Story-like recap, Copy/Paste recap, or no recap at all?

I'll be able to make my full post in a couple of hours but feel free to now all act (not waiting for initiative) and discuss what you are going to do.

Apologies to the delay in posting from my end. My intention is to try and post, when required, at least every morning at 10:30 GMT+1 (4 hours before now) and every night at 23:00 GMT+1. That's as a bare minimum.

However a client of mine had their webserver compromised and infected with a virus, so unfortunately that emergency had to come first.

Will be writing my post now, thanks for the patience.

Err if it wasn't clear in my post, Jerry is healed to full. Janira's minimum Cure Light Wounds is for 1d8+4 and he has only suffered 3 damage.

I at least am took no offense from Alister's post. Heck with a different character I would be at least as mad if we left someone behind. A bit of friction always makes for good roleplaying fodder.

It's cool, I just wanted everyone to know that this isn't a situation where you are making the wrong choice by fighting the minotaur - or the right one. It's just an option!

It simply seems better to make sure everyone is on the same page in terms of antagonism. Inter-character antagonism can be very rewarding from a roleplaying perspective, yet it is important that people get that it is 'in character'. Would rather be clear from the first occurrence than have people feel frustrated by it out of character.

It was all for rp

I understand :) my intention was to let others know it was just for rp. We have 3 people who have never done the scenario before, and 3 people who have. Didn't want anyone to think they were supposed to fight the minotaur now or lose out on something.

My intention was actually to bring up the issue of letting the new players solve things first be brought up once relevant to the scenario... but Alister's comments (the character's, not the players!) made me have to bring it forward. It wasn't done in any near as clean or organised way as intended.

My apologies if it came across as attacking you Alister for your roleplaying, that wasn't my intention at all!

You can say that again :) It's surprising though, you would think scouting ahead would be something easy to account for... but it really isn't in PFS scenarios.

Some even say "The Party Starts Here" on the map, which obviously totally breaks the idea of stealth at all.

As long as people are aware that scouting ahead can get them killed, I'm all for it - it should be a risk/reward scenario in my mind!
