You can do whatever you want, remember? That's the best thing about this hobby - it's your party. :)
You do now have more confirmation that it is a regularly recurring event, with yet another occurrence happening when expected, so you can predict the next one with reasonable certainty. And Balthus has proposed that it's some kind of anniversary, which seems fairly reasonable at least as a working hypothesis. So if you'd prefer to go for more research and preparation, feel free, although everyone should have a say.

Red Raven looks like a ball, and I've considered applying, but I'm in a similar situation as Fabian: at my limit for games right now. Have a great time!
Lord Perry Arizian |
I wonder if Perry's Channel Energy (as cast by a pseudo-wraith) would heal the actual wraiths.
Makes no sense mechanically, but pretty darn appropriate for unexpected reinforcements--FROM THE FUTURE.
Balthus Tauran |
I will out for a few days on vacation with very limited internet access. My last post will be tomorrow morning and I won't be back and posting until late Monday night (April 4th).
Be nice to poor Balthus.
I'm looking at you, Amund! :)
Amund Basurto |
[botting Balthus] Feeling ill Balthus sits down in the dirt and begins scooting around on his bum. For some reason Slasher seems pleased with himself.[/botting Balthus]
I solemnly swear I will not abuse my companions ;)
Lord Perry Arizian |
Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Two issues here:
1 Spectral Stuff: Perry may have been caught up in the moment--his fault.
I thought the swirly enchantment would confer upon Perry something. Does the swirly mist-stuff do anything?
Religion on Swirleh: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
2 Map: Also, how many combatants are in the waters right now? I can't see the Chelish commander or her troops, and only three wraiths. I had the impression that we'll fight alongside them against big odds.
3 Channel: Would my channel energy heal or harm the Chelish combatants (if they're fighting with us).
GM Rennai |
1) Best you can tell, the swirly mist-stuff and spooky ghost armor is lingering remnants of the memories of the spirits in the area...a sign of them passing their task on to you, so to speak. You did also notice that it seemed to hold back the wraiths' attacks to some degree - just not enough to help Jetta. +6 AC (basically spectral breastplates) against touch attacks - I rolled really unfortunately well against Jetta, though, as usual. :/
2) The Chelish troops are frozen in place, now that someone else has taken up their fight. You're assuming essentially the center of the conflict, the commander's confrontation against the three big guys threatening to overtake her. Changing the point that turned the tide against them, as it were.
3) The wash of positive energy would begin to pacify their souls, help them begin to move along. Mechanically, yes, it diminishes their hit points. But arguably, killing them is helping them to move along, and that's how it'll be played out, relieving their torment and setting them at peace.
Jetta Stahle |
13 hit points damage from negative energy and...13 CON drain, for another -24 off current and total hit points. :/ That should put you at 23/40.
Assuming that these are normal wraiths, I get a Fortitude save against each attack to negate the drain.
Fortitude 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Fortitude 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Fortitude 3: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
That should do. :)
Lord Perry Arizian |
Nice saves!
Although I never really understood negating con drain. I had felt that if the save is required at all, might as well be halved.
I surely don't want to see Jetta a sagged old corpse on the floor, but the game mechanics are a tad strange.
Anthuria |
Mechanically, it's to balance their CR. Without the save, they would be a much harder fight. Like, perma-death in one round hard.
RP-wise, Jetta is just tough as nails :).
Jetta Stahle |
Jetta, you regain 5 hit points, and the wraiths take 5 each unless they can pass the DC 15 Will save to half.
It's only one or the other, right?
GM Rennai |
Jetta is correct - you have to choose whether to heal living or harm undead.
And it does seem strange that undead are harmed by cold, but I double checked and they aren't immune or resistant.
Edit: Also, Amund, strike what I said before about the effects - I hadn't noticed the elixir worked differently than the spell. Continue as you planned.
Jetta Stahle |
Probably because the designers thought that being able to simultaneously damage your enemies and heal your enemies would the too powerful.
Which one are you doing, then?
Lord Perry Arizian |

Makes no sense. Positive energy harms undead...
Anyway--it's heal. Undead start off with good Will.
GM Rennai |

This. Channeling is already powerful enough against hordes of undead without it healing everyone simultaneously as well. Seems silly, but that's the way it is.
Jetta Stahle |
Jetta, are you counting any opportunity attacks?
What do you mean? I don't think any of the wraiths have moved more than five feet so far.
Lord Perry Arizian |
I'm not sure they moved at all in the first place.
How about Merian and Jetta withdrawing next to Perry (for healing purposes), and make use of Merian's longpsear + Smite ability as well as Jetta's long reach for attacks of opportunity?
In the meantime, the rest of the characters can fall back into the middle rank or harry the enemy.

Hi all,
I've recently taken up my hand at GMing and am enjoying it. I'm looking to start a Beginner Box campaign for people new to PbP. If you know someone who's a relative newbie either to Pathfinder or play-by-post, please send them to the recruitment thread. Thanks!
Balthus Tauran |
Ooh, Amund lecturing a Hellknight on her duties...
Give it to him, Jetta! :)
Amund Basurto |
:P you are totally do it. But being the man I will apologize to the lady. For I am John Snow and I know NOTHONG!
Also Balthus stop siding with anyone against me.
Jetta Stahle |
Yeah, that's sort of a berserk button for Hellknights. Of course, in this case Amund is totally right. Doesn't lessen the chances of getting punched in the face, though. :P
I'll leave some space for others to interject before I decide how Jetta will respond.
Amund Basurto |
I figured. And since I am at work I am also ok with waiting for the others
Balthus Tauran |
Also Balthus stop siding with anyone against me.
What are you talking about? This is the first time and you stepped right into it. :)
Seriously, aside from Balthus being against Amund directly, I can't seem to remember any other time I backed anyone against Amund.
I think Balthus is just getting to Amund and mind you that Balthus didn't say anything; it was Fabian this time. :)
Amund Basurto |
Fair point. Fabian be nice to Amund he is trying to do good. And no I do not think Balthus has backed anyone against Amund except himself. And that Has been fun. Balthus hates love!
And if coarse I stepped into it. The situation was calling to the peacekeeper in me. Jetta and I could bond over this. Or get violent. There are options.
Amund Basurto |
Balthus us unwilling to tell the tale that is worse than being dropped on his head. Grumpy old man doesn't love the idea of love. It not fair the older generation trying to impose their archaic views on the younger people. Amund just wants everyone to get along. ;) hehe
Also as a dedicated pessimist it is very weird to be optimistic.
@Jetta where is the OWLBERT!
Also I really like Soaring Landrunner, Getitoffme, Archimedes the Unbearable, and Feather'a'nether.
Jetta Stahle |
@Jetta where is the OWLBERT!
Uh, sorry about that. Jetta probably wasn't in a talking mood on the ride back. Again, you can assume that Jetta muttered that after Perry presented his Declaration of Officially Sanctioned Owlbear Names.
Jetta Stahle |
It seems the GM wants us to interact Balthus.
I think he is indicating that Amund has a chance to interact with him, specifically.
Amund Basurto |
That is possible. Everyone should visit the owlbears. They are so fluffy! I suppose I could start it off.
GM Rennai |
Amund Basurto wrote:It seems the GM wants us to interact Balthus.I think he is indicating that Amund has a chance to interact with him, specifically.
More just pointing out the fact that Balthus was peeking in on them, especially as it's fairly unusual for him. And encouraging character interactions, too. :)
