"My turn." Just to expedite this.

Julian waits for Rowan to land before taking the scale temporarily from her and rising to eye level with the Shutter. He breaks out his second story man tools and works on disabling what was keeping them locked out...

Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Again just in case: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

On the second try, Julian manages to open up the accessway and provide a way into the building - assuming, of course, that everyone can get through it. Tarov's increased size makes it essentially impossible for him to get through until he shrinks again, and even the door will be a bit of a tight fit if/when you manage to open it.

Tarov returns to his normal size, forcibly suppressing the effects of the extract Julian had given him, and giving the sheer wall another look, decides to wait by the door to be let in. "Ain't no way I'm gettin' up there. Lad, get inside and find a way t' open th' door!"

I'm incapable of climbing the wall, even on a Nat 20. D:

Or just open it from the front - which is arguably faster and safer, given that he couldn't benefit from Tarov's protection while inside... XD Still, your game and your decision!

Julian's Disable Device (the only one in the party) is only +9. We literally can't open the door from outside. >_<

*Raises one finger* ... *Doublechecks book* Huh. DD for the window was 30, too - for some reason I was thinking 25. Oh, well, I already said he opened it! Let's go with climbing in, then. XD

The satisfying click of the tumbler letting free was a welcomed sound. He turned and gave those below a thumbs up as he proceeded to enter the window and check if the coast was clear.

Once he was sure he was safe enough he tosses down the scale to Rowan and waits for her to join him. Signaling an Okay to Tarov as he understood the dwarf's message.

His sickle catches on his chainshirt and for a moment Julian felt like throwing the thing out the window in frustration.

*Glances over things* Iiii think it would be a good idea to just wait for Tarov to shrink and pull him up through the window somehow. Trust me on this one.

The opened window leads to a tiny room on the second floor of the garrison - sadly, not an easy entrance to the foyer where the door could be unlocked from. This seems to be a bit of a storage room of some kind, and there's a single unlocked door to the west. With both Rowan and Julian there, it's a very tight squeeze.

I did shrink, figured I'd end up sitting around wasting the extract anyway. Do Julian or Rowan have rope or something? And I should mention that Tarov weighs roughly 360lbs. with all his gear. D:

Here we go!

Rowan pulls out her hemp rope and starts knotting it up, uncomfortable as she was with being trapped in a closet with the Tiefling and wasting the initial use of the scale so brazenly...

Knot hemp rope and lower it down.

Is there anything I can secure it to?? If not I can try using the heavy mace as a sort of an anchor if possible.

Nothing truly solid, but you can hold it yourself - and have Julian help.

With a fair bit of huffing and puffing, the three of you are able to work together to get Tarov up to the windowsill, which creaks alarmingly under his weight. He can't actually get into the room until Rowan or Julian moves out through the window or the door, though...

Several stacked horizontal shelves hold a number of small, straw-lined bird cages. A stack of parchment, three quills, a pot of ink, and a pile of tiny cylindrical objects cover a nearby table, while a small wooden door is in one corner of the room.

Three creatures, appearing as demonic giant flies with faces that look all too human save for their deformed rasping maws and tiny half-formed hands on the tip of each spindly leg, dwell in this room. They wasted no time at all in turning to Julian and preparing to attack.

...And the three of them were quick indeed. One of them raised a leg, and the room was abruptly shrouded by a Darkness spell. The other two inhaled, then suddenly spat out lines of acid heading into the closet, targeting Julian and Rowan. Tarov, being out the window at the moment, was in no danger.

Julian takes his beating well, wading through the acid and shrouded in darkness by the creatures that were attacking them. The darkness affected him little as his eyes pierced the darkness he brandished Einharjar defensively and move towards the closest of the flies, intent on it's destruction...

<:If you can't trust yourself your doomed to fall Redeemed. Trust your companions but trust in yourself first.:>

Julian's smirk was now a grim line as Einharjar's words broke through, firming his resolve as he closed. His body thrummed with magical might as he enchanted Einharjar to cut the demons more effectively. As he closed Einharjar whistled through the air like a scythe cutting through wheat...

It wasn't anywhere close to hitting, though, and a pair of energy missiles shot through the air a moment later as Tarov ripped a huge piece out of one of the flies. On the down side, the mace wasn't quite capable of getting through its hide... the blow did far less damage than it should have, and the demonic fly promptly retaliated.

The combination of Julian and Tarov's strikes is enough to bring down the last of the insects... who are pretty much exactly what they look like - giant, demonic flies. The average giant fly isn't totally unknown (despite the insistence of 'scientists' who say such creatures can't possibly exist when they manifestly do - crazy people, those), and it was probably no surprise that the Abyss would breed its own variant.

With the insects dead, you're free to leave the room without difficulty - there's nothing of interest or value to keep you here.

Stealth was hard when knights were clanking along behind you... and a loud roar shook the hall as a eight tiefling cultists roared a challenge. The two in front had blades out - the others were holding crossbows. Somehow, it seemed like they'd found out you were here and gathered together to stop you - several of them looked a bit rushed, but none of them looked willing to talk.

"For the Lord of the Locust Host - KILL THE TRAITOR!" one of them roared, pointing at Julian as he peeked out. A barrage of crossbow bolts shot through the air as the other tieflings relieved their itchy trigger fingers, even as the two up front took up defensive positions to protect those behind them.

If your AC isn't what it says in the stat bar, you should always mention it at the top or bottom of your posts, because that's where I'm looking. ^^ Let's just roll with it this time - it's a good incentive to remember in the future.

Tarov had no particular trouble charging forward and crushing one of the defending cultists in a single blow. Meanwhile, Julian rushed forward to cast, and the surviving one immediately slashed out at him.

Melee: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

He probably would've needed a not-so-minor miracle to hit Julian, and did not actually manage to do so. The colors washed over him and two of the crossbowmen a moment later...

...and all three of them were out cold. Rowan crushed the other unconscious warrior a moment later, and the end results were gruesome enough to avoid mentioning to small children. That left four crossbowmen who promptly retargeted Rowan, aiming for the one who was most obviously a servant of good.

The attack smashed into the magical force that protect Julian, but he didn't revel in the feeling as he saw Rowan start taking hits. As their three comrades fall he spun Einharjar expertly and stepped over there unmoving forms. He focused solely on those still standing targeting the remaining crossbowmen and slashing out at nearest one with Einharjar!

<:"Feel the Redeemed blade of one who accepted Righteousness oh pitiful fallen ones. Prostrate thyselves and you may yet be saved.":> Einharjar's words became Julians own as he slashed with the blade made of shadow and stood against his brethren with the resolve of an unconquerable soul. Tarov brought down another warrior, and Julian injured a second as the two knocked out by magic stirred, starting to recover from the blast. Rowan's weapon was... not as guided as it could have been.

That was when eight cultists came out of the room directly behind you and darted forward, ugly-looking scythes in their hands. Tarov was the closest, and the cultists seemed entirely willing to brave the range of his weapon as they darted forward and swung. Their weapons glowed with crackling black power as they attacked, eyes narrowed in intense focus. (Two can get into range in the hall, and you may make Attacks of Opportunity against each. Neither attack of opportunity managed to land on Julian, and a moment later it was bombs away.

Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Somewhat unexpectedly, it was a successful evasion of the worst of the blast for the second cultist, though Tarov's earlier attack of opportunity had hit the first one and the combined blows were enough to down him. The two downed tieflings were also struck by the bomb (killing one and badly wounding the other), and another cultist rushed forward to fill the gap. (Provoking another AoO from Tarov)

By this point, the party was essentially pinned between the two tieflings on one side (towards the eastern wall) and the cultists coming from the other side. One of the tieflings to the east stepped west, flanking Rowan, and the four enemies in range lashed out.

The current layout of the battlefield is approximately as follows. #'s = Cultist, D = Tiefling, T = Tarov (for 'Dwarf'), R is Rowan, and J is Julian.
