Shift work sucks, I'm sorry you have to put up with that.
As a random aside, I've been playing the soundtrack from Moana so much and I can not stop thinking of Atsadi as a Pirate Maui. My son is too young to appreciate the movie, but he dances to the music! Dancing toddlers are adorable and clumsy.

Lieutenant Ambrose Jeggare |

I haven't seen Moana yet! I was really excited when I first heard about it years ago and then when the trailers came out. I was so disappointed when I missed it in theaters, but I'll be traveling to California next week, so I should be able to catch it in theaters there. I spent 5 years in Hawai'i as a kid and I still remember some of the Maui stories from elementary school (both the character and the island). Lemme tell ya, ghost stories didn't bother me much even back then, but the Hawaiians had some seriously spooky ones!

Lieutenant Ambrose Jeggare |

Which one? Atsadi is using ghost strike and threatening to perform a dental tracheotomy and Ambrose is preparing the grappling hooks.

Lieutenant Ambrose Jeggare |

I'll start doing that. I have no idea how you handle so many games! I'm only playing in 4 and GMing 1 and it's probably too much for me to handle.

Atsadi Tonga |

It's a fantastic movie. And I'll start to! I usually try to post shortly after you do, so we're generally waiting on Hurley :P.
I also couldn't handle that many games. I'm in 3 at the moment and think I prefer to have just two (although since our game is slower paced, that's not really an issue at all). As long as both are quick paced.
I'm also running a game of Blades in the Dark which is..much easier to run than Pathfinder. No number crunching! And barely any planning, most of its "Well..what would be interesting to do here?" I ran into a "wtf do I do now" moment recently but the GM section of the book is so amazing that it helped me come up with a handful of ideas to hurl at the players.
I'm plotting to run a game of Microscope at some point soon..maybe this weekend or next week. I need to decide on an online white board to use though. I've been debating using either Trello or Stormboard to assist in running it (alongside the Paizo boards).

Atsadi Tonga |

Hey Rednal, one of the guards still needs to make a Will save from last round. It'll give Jeggare and Atsadi +1 to hit for 3 rounds if he fails.

Lieutenant Ambrose Jeggare |

Alright, both of us have posted. Sorry for the delay, I'm in California this week.
Quick question, what's the light level? I'm assuming it's bright light since we're outside, but on the off chance that it's not bright, I could give us a little bit of concealment with darkness.
Did you go forward with the Blades in the Dark game? I saw that somebody else started one too and wasn't sure if you were still running one or just playing in theirs.
I saw Moana. As a movie, I loved it. As a piece of cultural representation, I'm working through it. There was a lot to like, especially since it's Polynesian and not specifically Hawaiian. Maui being a demigod still seems weird to me; in the stories I heard growing up, he was more like a Hawaiian Jack the Giant Killer figure. But apparently he's a figure in other Polynesian cultures, not just Hawaiian, so I learned something new!

Lieutenant Ambrose Jeggare |

I figured as much. Welp, time to go get slaughtered XD
I'm glad to hear Blades in the Dark is going well! It looked like a neat little system. I'm still waiting for Wil Hindmarch's Project Dark game system to get released, but who know when that will happen?

Was that a kickstarter game that had cards involved somehow? A friend of mine picked up Faith (sci fi RPG) and it uses cards for everything too. We haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Lieutenant Ambrose Jeggare |

That's the one, yeah. It looks really promising, except for the part where it was supposed to be out years ago. I'm really interested in alternative mechanics for storytelling games.
I'm back from vacation in California! Ye gods, am I back. Everything went fine until the return trip. We wrecked twice in Colorado due to a run of bad luck and worse weather. Everybody's fine, and there was only minor damage to non-essential systems. I have nothing but bad to say about Colorado's weather, but nothing but good to say about Colorado's people.

Lieutenant Ambrose Jeggare |

Yeah, we got pretty lucky all things considered. The first time could have resulted in us taking a one-way trip off the mountain. One of the patrol officers that stopped informed me that the place our car was sitting was a good 15 or 20 feet off the road; apparently the snow and ice had built up into a stable-enough shelf that was level with the road, and the ice we had deflected off was the only barrier. I neglected to share this information with my brothers, and I still don't understand why in the world there isn't a guard railing there.

Atsadi Tonga |

That's horrifying. I wonder how many accidents would need to occur to get someone to put up a guard rail there..crazy.

Redblade8 |

So, I figured I'd come in here and give you guys the apology I feel like owe you after my disappearing act last fall. As I told Hurley in an email a little while ago, I had a pretty bad patch of burnout / exhaustion, and only started wandering back round here a couple of weeks ago.
Again, sorry for flaking out and disappearing without saying anything.
Later on,
Felix

Atsadi Tonga |

Meh, it happens. It's the nature of the beast with gaming (not even just PbP). I think my monthly attendance in my one real game of PF is about 40-50% from the last 12 months :-\
When you have life + other hobbies, sometimes one ends up taking a backseat!
Are you going to be coming back around or re-joining us?

Atsadi Tonga |

By the way, I know we hastened past many drudging days, but how does that impact our social rolls/etc with the crew? Assuming Atsadi spent every spare moment ingratiating himself with different neutral/unfriendly crew members to make some friends.

Redblade8 |

Are you going to be coming back around or re-joining us?
If the three of you are amenable to having me back, then yeah, I'm game.
I haven't looked back over Gameplay, what fate befell Lucas over the past 5 months? If he got tossed overboard, well, it's not like I wouldn't understand the thinking that had gone into that. :)

Lucas di Viespea |

Ay-yi-yi. I just spent the afternoon trying to make sense of my notes for Lucas; only reason it didn't drive me to drink is that I have to drive home. :) Trying to make an archer out of this mess is, well, messy. Permission to rebuild him into melee? (This would basically mean PB/Precise shot become, I dunno, probably Weapon Finesse and Deadly Agility, and the focus of his disciplnes would be Steel Serpent instead of Oncoming Storm.)

Lucas di Viespea |

Tell you what, give me tonight to go over this guy and try to put a plan together.
I think my idea before was to kind of be a switch hitter, but "majoring" in ranged. The complications there, I think, are 1) no class features that will make for safe melee shooting, 2) simply put, bows don't feel "piratey enough". So maybe if I flip that around, make him a melee build that "minors" in archery.
More later.

Atsadi Tonga |

It's too bad the rules for guns are too complicated to use outside of specific classes/archetypes.

Lucas di Viespea |

I'm actually thinking I could make an archer work if I replace Warlord with Fighter. Simplifies the hell out of things, and still maintains what I think is Lucas' core concept (i.e. Explorer).

Lucas di Viespea |

I don't recall ever having had a character be this stubborn about "revealing" himself to me. Screw it. I'm gonna go melee (Steel Serpent), and mix in some Solar Wind, and maybe a few ranged feats as opportunity allows, and that will be my ranged capability.
I'll update Lucas tonight.

Lieutenant Ambrose Jeggare |

Welcome back! Glad to have you, melee or ranged.

Lucas di Viespea |

OK, Lucas is updated. I'm just going to go ahead with the ranged thing, damn the torpedoes. If it works, great. If I effing hate it, well, Lucas can have an accident involving a sea monster and getting swept overboard. :)
Looking at Atsadi and Amborse, I took the liberty of bumping him to level 2. Gear I left as-is. One thing I could use some advice on is picking maneuvers. I've got to pick 7 maneuvers and I'm having trouble deciding on seven good ones from Solar Wind and Tempest Gale. Anyone want to help me winnow the list?
Raven: if I said this weekend we got donuts/pastries from Natale's, would your wife be giving the death-ray stare? :)

Atsadi Tonga |

I asked if she knew what it was and she replied "It's a summit institution!"
I'd count that as jealous haha.

GM Rednal |
There's a couple of online guides that are good for helping pick maneuvers. I'd aim to drop at least three of those on boosts and counters, and leave the rest for normal maneuvers.
For Solar Wind, Curving Ray Shot and Solar Sting are neat, and the Phantom Sun Stance has definite advantages. That should be a good start, at least.

Lucas di Viespea |

OK, known maneuvers are on the sheet. I'll get stuff organized/readable ASAP.
And yeah, I'd read the guides, but none of them had any skinny on Tempest Gale. In the end I took every strike and boost from both disciplines that I felt was worth it, and still had to dip out into Thrashing Dragon to make the "Maneuvers Known" limit.

Lucas di Viespea |

Tell her the apple turnovers are still excellent, albeit a bit to crumbly for car consumption. (I'm working offsite today, so I took the extra few minutes to head out that way.)
I think Lucas is ready, did I miss anything ony end?

Lucas di Viespea |

Fair point. I was looking for some manner of balance between having all the stuff there to see vs not overloading the sheet. I'll revamp it presently.

Hyperlinking to their location in the PF srd is helpful. It's what I've started doing with Atsadi's newer powers.

Atsadi Tonga |

Also, Rednal, both Jeggare and Atsadi have taken their turns. Reminder:" you owe me a will save (DC 14 or join the collective) for last turn as well.
...Collective. Christ, feels like the borg.

Lieutenant Ambrose Jeggare |

As little as Ambrose is contributing, I'm enjoying seeing the side-by-side comparison. Spheres and PoW make regular Pathfinder look pathetic.

And yet sometimes PoW grates on me. Tough to put my finger on, best I can do is give a fake Onion-style headline. "Stepdad Tries Too Hard To Be Cool, Says Yes Way Too Much".

Lieutenant Ambrose Jeggare |

I really like the design paradigm it utilizes. It's a great chassis to homebrew martial arts styles that are actually fun. One of these days I'll get around to fleshing out a Capoeira discipline.

Atsadi Tonga |

Redblade, if you don't take the opportunity to have Lucas swing over by rope in a dramatic, swashbuckler-y fashion...I will be disappointed.

Lucas di Viespea |

Gonna be tricky as hell firing a bow while swinging from a rope, but by god I'll try!
I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend.

Lucas di Viespea |

My apologies, I only just realized you were waiting on me for a gameplay post. I'll have one up tonight. Is there a current map somewhere? The link to the Wormwood above doesn't show the current situation.

Lucas di Viespea |

I realized that after perusing Gameplay more closely. For these purposes, unless I hear otherwise I'll assume I'm still aboard the Wormwood.
