It can do things to us based on what we do to it, I think.
"I gambled that the holy energy would protect me," Pavo says. He then raises his eyebrows appreciatively following John's cantrip, "That looked like it hurt it. Do that again!"

GM RePete |

Quint's projectile hits the creature, but the bullets flatten on impact.
Yelek slices a piece of it off.
An eerie green light illuminates over the polyp's body and it's wounds begin to heal.
Necrotic Polyp (-39)
At this point, I feel it's safe to assume no one is going to physically touch the entity with anything aside from a weapon of some kind. The only issue here is expendables (Quint's bullets, Pavo's wand charges, Egg's arrows) Eventually you guys will be able to beat it to a pulp.
If we assume no one fumbles and average damage each attack...it would take you 7 rounds to kill it with all of you attacking the same way you did this round.
If Pavo, Egg, Quint are ok with counting off 7 charges - we'll assume it's dead.

![]() |

Or I could just shoot it until dead, my resources are unlimited with that spell. But I expect it would take a lot longer and the thing might even be able to heal the small (even doubled) damage I do. So since I don't have a resource to lose, I'll abstain from this decision but will still shoot it with acid boogers until it dies or I pass out from blood loss...

![]() |

Seeing that Yelek was not adversely affected by his sword blow, Pavo takes up his bardiche and slashes away from a short distance.
Bardiche, PA, FF: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Cold Iron, PA: 1d10 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 3 = 11
I think average 13 damage, even with possible DR is going to be better than average 5 holy damage and save me precious wand charges.

![]() |

Bullets being expensive and really Quint's only means of damage he'd stop after the third shot, trusting that his allies could finish the crazy undead blob off.
After firing three mostly ineffectual rounds at the hideous undead mass..Quint pulls back and watches in fascination as his companions continue to strike at the evil thing.

GM RePete |

Combat Over ;-)
Quint watches as his companions easily hack, slash, and lob things at the mass. The polyp continually tries healing itself, but after a while, it becomes clear the combined efforts of the group outweigh it's capabilities. Screaming in pain and emitting a loud vibrating sound, it seems to deflate. A rancid stench worse than any you've thus far encountered in this place fills the room.
With Pavo switching you still make it in 7 rnds.
Options: Closed door, Secret door, Collapsed Hall

![]() |

"No more undead feeding here!" Yelek hisses sounding oddly satisfied.
"Let'sss try the sssecret door firssst. There ssshould be a reassson for it to be sssecret..."

GM RePete |

The door is surprisingly easy to open. Beyond is a narrow set of steep stairs descending into darkness. Descending into the black, you travel several dozen feet before the stairs end in a solid stone door carved to resemble an immense scowling face.
Shimmering letters appear before you that read, "Beyond this door, exceeds the parameters of this adventure"

![]() |

Before anyone heads anywhere, John pipes up after the undead monstrosity spews its last 'breath'. "Hey Pavo, please please please heal me with my wand. I'm not feeling very good at all and I think these bites might get infected."
John will keep asking for healing until his hit points are maxed (he needs 14).

![]() |

He only has to ask once. ;)
Pavo pulls John's wand from his belt and activates it, channeling restorative energy into the man. "Those are some nasty bites. And you accused me of glory seeking?" he asks rhetorically with a friendly smile.
Later...
Noting the suspicious runes on the door, Pavo makes a suggestion. "Maybe we ought to make a map of this place and notes about what we've seen for future forays here."
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

"Lest something emerge to attack us while we dig, we should make sure the other door is clear."

![]() |

John replies with a smile as his wounds start closing up, "maaaybe..."
Later shortly after Pavo speaks.
John digs through his scroll box and pulls out several of the notes they got recently, "does anyone have a writing implement and maybe better paper? I'm afraid these notes might fall apart if we scrawl a map on the back... plus I'm low on blood and that is the only medium I have at the moment."
Note to self... buy paper and ink to make notes...
And shortly after later.
"That is not a bad plan Pavo, I don't think the rubble filled doorway will walk away, but let's not waste too much time. We only have a few days and digging might take a while."

![]() |

"Not I, unless you want me to carve it into the block of soap I carry to wash off slime," he says with regret. "We'll will have to compose the notes from memory and give the Captain an oral report. Oh, unless you want me to carve it on someone's back. I hear that method is popular with pirates."

![]() |

Quint walks over to John and hands him 3 pieces of parchment and a bottle of black ink. At least I'm useful for something on this mission Quint says dejected and walks away.

![]() |

"Nonsense. You've been quite valuable, Quint," Pavo says in an effort to cheer the gunslinger.
Turning his attention back to John, "Make sure you mention the cannibals and that demon-hag carving. I'm sure someone in the Dark Archive would like to know about this necromantic mound of flesh, even if we deconstructed it."

![]() |

With a beaming smile John thanks Quint, "you may not recognize it now my friend, but being here trying is worth more than any number of 'kills' or 'successes'. We succeed or fail together so do not put the burden on yourself alone. Now see if you can help me draw this map."
John begins drawing a map of where they have been so far, putting in notes about anything seen in specific locations, including secret doors.

I'm sorry I didn't invest in a wand of CLW yet, I can only ask for healing for now. As for the next destination I suggest we check out the closed door first and then we deal with the wall

This large chamber has a relatively low ceiling. The far southwest wall is set at an angle, and against the center of the wall sits a heap of bones and skulls resembling a large makeshift throne. To the left of the throne sits an oak and brass sea chest, carved with images of sea serpents chasing their own tails.
A humanoid sits on the throne in front of two bowing festrogs. His pallid flesh is stretched tightly over his starved frame. Looking up as Yelek kicks open the door, his face contorts into a sick looking smile.
"Ah visitors!" calls out the creature. "What can I do for you this day? I suspect you have been hassling my servants, but that may be forgiven. Step forth and speak before my court! You may refer to me as Highness or Lord."
The two festrogs turn to you, their salivating maws and eyes stare straight through your soul as a rabid dog looking upon a steak.

Quint moves quietly into the room to support his new friend Yelek. When he gets to the corner he readies an action to shoot the festrog on his right should it attack or even move closer to himself or Yelek. As he squeezes past Yelek he speaks to the undead leader, My Lord, we are but pilgrims to come here and observe your greatness. We didn't mean to engage your servants however, they stood in the way, to our ultimate goal of, basking in your presence and sharing in the glory of your power. Quint bows slightly to the undead creature; gun still ready to come up and shoot, at a moments notice. We have come to honor and serve, the master of the Orb of Stars. We will be his eternal servants, whether in life or death; if he can prove his mastery, of the orb of stars! Quint does his best to emulate a fanatical zeal in speech.
I believe our search is finally over, only one so powerful as yourself could be in possession of such an artifact! Show us the orb and we will bend a knee to you now! Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
"Ah, so nice to see respectable intelligence." he remarks. With but a wave to the prostrate festrogs before him, he continues. "It's been so long since I've had the pleasure of good company. These obey my biding, but they're not much in the way of conversation."
Frowning a bit, he adds "As for the orb, I don't believe I'll be showing it to you. Trust me, I have it in a safe place. I'm sure you understand, one doesn't just give away all his secrets on the first date. Oh, and in lieu of bended knee, I will accept a voluntary sacrifice."
Sizing up you and your companions, he shrugs. "You know, I'm feeling generous. You can choose amongst yourselves which of you will be given in my honor. The rest will be granted passage away from my court, unharmed....if they wish or you could stay and join my council."
The ghast's eyes seem to linger on Yelek. A plump, rotted tongue flickers out and retracts over his lips. "I must admit, I didn't realize my renown was so it'd breached these walls."
