Here's the discussion! I've made the first post in the gameplay thread, giving you a starting point for roleplay. I've sent PMs to everyone in the group, but if anyone is unable to play, we can recruit a replacement.

Hey, good idea. Everyone do what PatheticWretch just did please.
Milarandei Qetra - Core
|
Player: Jamesui
Character: Milarandei
PFS# 182235-5
Faction: Should stay Grand Lodge
Note: I applied a Core GM credit for school of spirits to this character, so she's level 2 now. I don't know how or if I want to respec her. Also, as I'm having a massive problem with either my ISP or my modem, I'd like to consider this a "maybe" signup. If you need to cut anyone, cut me.

We're already down one player, as Lilyth Cailean is already playing this scenario.
I will recruit more as soon as we know how many we have.

I'm going to try to verify whether the others from the previous group are interested or not, and if not, try to recruit enough to make this a full table at least.

Player: PJP
Character: B.A.B.S.
PFS# 150786-10
Faction: The Exchange
No day job.
Also, would like to spend 2 prestige on a green dragonhide breastplate.
Kastarr Emris
|
Player: Ben Graves
Character: Kastarr Emris
PFS# 150456-2
Faction: Liberty's Edge.
Normal advancement.
No day job.
Q: PFS characters max out at 11th level, correct? If that's the case I would like to adjust Kastarr's ability scores before leveling up. I was thinking about the ability increases for a 20th level character. It doesn't work out if the cut-off is at 11th.
GM Paladin

BABS: That's fine.
Kastarr, you can adjust anything you want as long as you do it before you play at level 2. PFS doesn't exactly stop at level 11 -- there's just fewer scenarios after that. I'm hoping to eventually play Eyes of the Ten with these characters, which takes you through 12 and up to 13.2, and then there are a few specials one can do that have seeker tiers, as well as modules and APs.

I should note that I don't do the old individual faction missions unless they contribute in some way to the plot. None of these do, IMO, so we'll skip them.

The scenario as written only allows for a Perform check. I added an Int check at +5 DC because I figured it to be too difficult as it was. It is indeed amusing that Fatham was the only one. Perhaps you might consider RP him as being super anti-civilization and all, but having a weakness for really good theatre, kind of like Mr. Tulip from Terry Pratchett's The Truth, who is a violent, stupid thug with a ridiculous drug habit who happens to be a connoisseur and highly insightful (regarding this subject only) critic of fine art.

There is some table variation about whether an animal companion will actively seek out a flank. The interesting thing is that in regular PFS, there is a trick called 'flank' in the Animal Archive, which pretty much means that you need to have that resource and teach your animal that trick if you want it to flank, but on the other hand, it will do so automatically. In Core, there is no access to a flank trick. I usually treat it as part of the attack trick myself as a GM, since it doesn't seem fair to me to punish AC-using characters because the CRB writers didn't think to include a flank trick, but some GMs may not allow an animal to flank at all (even animals like wolves that are known to use flanking tactics in the wild in real life), or require a push to do it.

Interesting... I hadn't even considered that. I was sort of planning on a Betsy/Bertha flank as a standard OP, since the boar has speed and acrobatic and the half-orc gets an extra point of damage when flanking, but would an AC understand the value of flanking? I don't know... I would expect it from a wolf or other pack hunter, I suppose, but probably not a natural instinct for a boar.
If there was an added rule for flank as a trick, I would say there was enough consensus that it was not usable without - otherwise I think they would have FAQ'd it.

Right, if this were standard, I'd say, get the Animal Archive and use the trick from there, but you can't.

These season 0 scenarios were kinda rough from a writing standpoint. I wish they'd get someone to update the statblocks, at least, to modern pathfinder standards as they did with Mists of Mwangi.

My apologies, I thought we were on the group including Fatham, and I've had a very busy weekend and Monday. I'll move ahead before I go to bed tonight.

So the ability that Fatham just survived is the 3.5 death domain's Death Touch ability.
Death Domain
Granted Power
You may use a death touch once per day. Your death touch is a supernatural ability that produces a death effect. You must succeed on a melee touch attack against a living creature (using the rules for touch spells). When you touch, roll 1d6 per cleric level you possess. If the total at least equals the creature’s current hit points, it dies (no save).
GM Paladin holds up his hand with thumb and forefinger less than an inch apart.
"Missed it by that much!"
Fatham

Wow. Just...wow.
That's pretty brutal to throw at level 1's! It would have been a perma-death, too, with no prestige or resources to bring me back.
I'll be glad nature didn't call me home yet!

Yeah, this old season 0 one is kind of "that escalated quickly" with wimpy foes throughout most of it, but the heavy picks everywhere that with a crit do 4x damage, and then this guy at the end.
Notice that PFRPG did away with that death domain power, and for good reason.

We're almost at the end of this fight, so if anyone has day job or other downtime activities to do, go ahead and post them.

So would any of you folks be interested in another scenario after this one?

Sure - this was a fun scenario. Thanks for this run, and I am happy to go again.
Chronicle looks good. Thanks!

So I have a couple thoughts about what to do next. Among the Dead would be an obvious followup to this one, but if you're tired of undead, well, it might be a good idea to go with something else for a while.
The pallid plague is a fun one, but kind of skill heavy. I'd like to recruit an additional player anyway. I don't like The Many Fortunes of Grandmaster Torch, but it does introduce him as a character which may be important if we play a lot of other season 0-2 scenarios having to do with the shadow lodge.

I'm good with any of those. Among the Dead sounds like a good one to play now. I don't mind themes. :)
I'm leveled and ready whenever everyone else is.

Among the Dead is just fine - Babs comment was just for fun. I'm easy!

I have decided to do Among the dead, but not immediately next. There are plot points that make more sense if some time passes between this scenario and the next. How does returning to Absalom sound? I'm thinking either the Slave Ships of Absalom or the Penumbral Accords.
