GM_Pace's Serpent's Skull

Game Master jhpace1

Another Serpent's Skull, but with psionics and 3rd party material. Uses the Pathfinder Reference Document online as well as the Open Gaming License

1 to 50 of 83 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

I'm starting my first PbP as a GM to give Serpent's Skull another try, the original one I was in having failed when the characters were still Level One with GM_Todd. I was going to give the players on DM_Todd's game more time, but I'm impatient. :)

My Credentials:

I've been playing D&D since 2E with Forgotten Realms, then 3.0 with Greyhawk and Living Greyhawk. I game with a local tabletop group that plays Pathfinder regularly (Rise of the Runelords and homebrew). I've "relief-GM"ed several times for our main GM without complaint, other than a few gripes about following a "linear" plot with my own modules. We're playing an AP here, so that shouldn't be a problem. I am a "G/PG-13" type GM.

Characters Wanted:

My first pick is going to be GM_Todd's previous players of Souls for Smuggler's Shiv, since they were left in a lurch around the end of August 2011. These people were:
Allia Thren - human female Bard, a slave girl of the Captain
Dragolan Canario - massive human male Chelaxian Oracle of Life
Jasper Finn - human male Taldan Rogue
Kalis Daen'ith - elven male Barbarian from the jungle
Meraxes - male Varisian Sorcerer

So far only Dragolan has kept up with the near-dead OOC thread from GM_Todd's game. If no one from GM_Todd's previous Souls for Smuggler's Shiv applies, I'll take up to five characters (six if the team looks like a well-oiled machine of classes and skills with all players). So others may apply. Postings will be once per day minimum or 5 times a week (weekends a little slower). If the players want a speedy campaign with 3+ posts a day, I'll try to accommodate them. If Sunny or Nazard see this and apply, they're a shoe-in because I've been trying to get a game with them for months.

Character Creation:

I want smart, verbose roleplayers. Not isolated warriors doing their own thing in battle and out.
1.) Download and read the Serpent's Skull Player's Guide (it's free). This book is critical for understanding the adventure path and making an appropriate backstory for your character. Pay special attention to the NPCs, the port of call you boarded the ship on, and various AP-specific traits.
2.) 20-point buy, 1st Level. No "dump" stats (i.e., below 10 before racial modifiers). Make your character page neat and clean to read.
3.) We will be using the online Pathfinder RPG Reference Document (PRD) as well as the OGC Pathfinder SRD. Too many GMs have told me "I don't like psionics". No more. This will be a psionics and third-party friendly character creation and game. If it's on these two online references, it's "pre-approved" for races, classes, feats, prestige classes, spells, etc. Core + APG goes without saying. Keep your background limited to the Adventure Path and the Inner Sea of Golarion if possible. Smart roleplayers will hyperlink their actions to the appropriate web page for reference, and explain both OOC and IC within their post their skill checks, special abilities, and spell/power effects. The better your backstory, the more likely I'll allow the character you want. I'm putting the burden of explaining your race, character, and class on you, you keep up with it. Gunslingers are allowed - if you can explain how you got the weapon and how you intend on making more buckshot in the Sargava and Mwangi Expanse. This is a "Very Rare Guns" and "Psionics are Different" campaign. Psionic characters should either be the first of their kind or from a hidden land/monastary. Psionic characters do not have to be monks. Pick a humanoid for your character - no pseudodragons, please!
4.) Cavat: no Words of Power for the Magnus. And if you pick a half-Tiefling/half-orc/half-dragon, then you're probably going too far. No Hero Points.
5.) Two traits, one from the Serpent's Skull Player's Guide, one from pre-approved sources. You will need to write a good backstory to get non-Serpent's Skull, non-Core+APG traits approved.
6.) No evil characters. No disruptive characters. (Here's a GM hint: you will need a lot of teamwork/diplomacy in this module).
7.) Max HP at first level, roll the dice and add your CON bonus thereafter.
8.) Average starting gold (plus any traits that add more gold).
9.) Familiars and companions follow the approved sources' guides for level balance. (I.e., Improved Familiar requires the arcane spellcaster to wait until Level 5 before acquiring a Celestial Hawk.) Familiars and companions are also not "disposable", and you will pay the full penalty for dismissing one to get another.
10.) Cohorts, followers, and romances available via the Leadership feat or intense roleplay. (More to come later in the AP.) While Serpent's Skull is not technically a "sandbox", I am broadening the AP for the players. So yes, your character can marry, acquire land, acquire a title, start a business, etc. within the plot of the Adventure Path.
11.) I am a crafting and purchasing-friendly GM, given the constraints of the Adventure Path.

I want a diverse team of people. Men and women. Multiple races. The Fighter might want to cross-class a skill point into Heal, the Sorcerer might want to put a skill point or two into Climb, Swim, or Survival, and the Paladin might want Detect Poison in addition to Detect Undead. I would prefer a "Jack-of-All-Trades" to a Fighter with a +8 in Ride and Climb and nothing else at 1st Level. "Core" classes will never be penalized, but teamwork and other hidden Adventure Path goals will get the entire team a bonus feat at the end of each book, or additional crafting time, or a +1 bonus to a Diplomacy check. Characters learning about each other's skills and spells/powers/weapons IC and deciding to choose other skills and spells/powers is not metagaming in my book. If you've played Souls for Smuggler's Shiv before and the game died and you want to try again, this is the game for you. I'm just counting on you to have the maturity to not spoil the surprise(s) for the rest of the group. I want players who are willing to go the long haul through the entire AP.

Maps will be via shared Google Documents (Excel spreadsheet) and some Dropbox pictures or links to other campaigns' pictures. I am not above using box text from the book or even other GMs (GM_Todd's dead campaign, for instance).

How to Apply:

You don't need to make up a full Level One character and post with your new character, but post as much as you can in your application. Remember to use the spoiler tag to hide walls of text! Applicants will need to answer the following questions:
1. Why are you aboard the ship?
2. At which port did you board or are you a stowaway?
3. What will your character contribute to the group?
4. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?

Roleplaying Introduction:

You start onboard the free-owned Magimarian merchant cargo ship Jenivere as it travels to the port city of Eleder on the edge of Sargava, still several days out in Desperation Bay. It's evening aboard the Jenivere. Much of the crew is gathered in the galley, awaiting their meal. Are you with them? Are you busy carrying out your duties? There is an air of discontent among the crew, as many are confused about their current course. Do you share in their concerns or are you loyal to Captain Kovack? Introduce yourself to the group in this context.

There's the recruitment offering! I will be accepting applications until midnight EDT Thursday, 27 October, 2011. Closing the recruitment earlier if I get five players or later if no one applies (no one? When it's open to psionics and third-party? Really?).

Good luck, and start cranking out those well-rounded characters!

The Exchange

I'm tempted to put forward a Psionic character of some sort. Are you willing to allow the Advanced Psionics Guide WIP? I'm thinking Aegis, from Unlimited Possibilities.

Insofar that the Aegis from Psionics Expanded requires Psionics Unleashed from Dreamscarred Press, I'll allow it. I'm supposed to have the Work-in-Progress, but I don't have the download yet.

Because Psionics Expanded isn't on the OGC PRD, I'll have to require you to include each power and effect that you use that is not in the OGC PRD within your IC posts as a spoiler each time. Did you plan on being the first of your kind, or from a hidden monastery?

------
Edit: And now I've logged in at Dreamscarred Press and downloaded the three additional books. You'll still need to spoiler-tag any non OGC PRD powers, feats, etc with where they are coming from in the IC posts. I'm also going to bar the Psionic Talents psionic feat, for now, and ask that you use the Unlocked Talent psionic feat instead from PE:UP to gain 2 power points with any 1st-level power as well as any two 1st-level powers that can be augmented down to "0" with expending your psionic focus. Five 0/1st-level psionic powers for one feat is a bit hard to swallow at first for a GM.

Monkeygod: It helps the GM if you do a skill check or special feat or spell/power with a URL link to the PRD or OGC SRD of the page of that feat/spell/power/skill, so that the GM can easily look up the item and save time before arguing against it. Learn to use the URL tag, and the GM won't think you are abusing Core, APG, and 3rd Party material.

Sense Motive (with psicrystal): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
I cast Spark at the haystack!
I'm Laying On Hands (Sickened) for 1d6 ⇒ 5 points.

Really Edgar?? Break away from that concept and branch out!!

I am really interested, Ive been trying to get in an AP that actually lasts, and this one has gotten good reviews.

One thing that confuses me: What do you mean by "Hyperlinking our actions to the appropriate web page for reference"

It's still before the 27th, so i'm thinking of applying, if you have other characters selected or current character roles that need filled skillmonkey, etc. i would be interested to know.

Thanks

oh ok, that makes plenty of sense. I was thinking something along the lines of "I swing down the mast and attack a foe" or "I chase down a deer for dinner" and then I needed to hypelink pictures of those actions, or something.

The Exchange

MG, I'm going for a Dex character. Don't worry about it, I'm not going to be using the heavy armor form at all. Also, I have no problem with posting descriptions of anything necessary.

Edit:Now that I think about it, I had an IRL Serpent's skull come up, and I made a psionic character for that as well.We only played a few times, though. Not much happened. :(

Edit 2: NVM, that was a homebrew set in Sargava.

The Exchange

I know the afore-mentioned sources are "pre"-approved, but I was wondering if you might allow certain things from the pathfinder Database, namely Improved Weapon Finesse. If you think it's okay, he may get a bit higher con, if not, he's going ranged.

Also, to answer your earlier question, I had planned on being the first of my kind, and a completely instinctual Psionic User.

Regarding Application Questions, At this point:

1. Escorting a small but valuable shipment of [TBD]
2. Been on the ship since Magnimar.
3. Mundane Crafter/Repairman, ranged support, possible melee, pending your response.
4. This will most likely not come to fruition, but I am contemplating Multiclassing into Soulknife, and then possibly Metaforge beyond that. Otherwise, get better at Ranged/Melee combat, and more mobile on the battlefield.
5. Complete the delivery, come hell or high water. Possibly take on more deliveries, get enough GP to settle down for good and retire from "Merc"ing.

Dotting as well. I already made this character with Serpent's Skull in mind: a Tian La samurai mercenary. Stats are in his profile, will modify them as necessary.

Answers:
1- Raal is a warrior from Tian La, working as a mercenary and bodyguard. While he doesn't like this job at all, he believes that escorting a rich Chelish merchant (and his cargo of devil relics and body parts) will give him quite a lot of money.
2- Boarded in Corentyn, along with the merchant.
3- Killing things before they kill me and the rest of the group.
4- Order of the Cockatrice Samurai, with the Standard bearer archetype from the Cavalier class. This also means that I will give buffs to the party early on, provided they stick with me. I plan to take a suitable mount for the setting later on (dinosaur?)
5- Survival. With the merchant he was supposed to escort probably dead during the ship accident, Raal sees the jungle ahead as the challenge he was looking for, a way of escaping by a dull life of escorting merchants and riches.

Edgar:

Edgar, I don't mind additional sources outside of the PRD/SRD (since my psionic characters use a power from The Mind's Eye at WOTC that never made it to DSP), but keep a permanent link to the reference on your character page.

With your application answers, it looks like your trait will be "Get the Cargo Through". Realize that "small but valuable" usually equals "illegal". I'm interested to see which result you choose in your backstory.

With your choices of non-manifesting archtypes/classes, are you interested in manifesting at all? If not, you don't have to worry about my ruling on Psionic Talents from PE:UP.

Raal:

Raal, your merchant employer...has a bad omen cast in his immediate future. Also, if you would put where you got your feats, traits, and any special abilities either with (), like "Get the Cargo Through (Serpent's Skull)" or hyperlink like "Killer". Just so I don't have to do a search for unfamiliar feats and such.

Where's your Mount, Ronin? Oh, you replaced the Mount with Banner. Please make a note of that on your character page, like "Banner (replaces Mount)". I can't charge you gold pieces for it, but said banner should, in my opinion, follow the same penalties as the Mount if you lose it or have it get damaged.

Clarification, even though no one has asked: Your psicrystal, chosen from the Psicrystal Affinity feat, does not cost gold to acquire. You don't even have to string it with a leather cord (1cp), silver necklace (1sp), or a gold chain (1gp) and keep it in your necklace body slot, if you do not want to. Just put in your backstory if the psicrystal showed up on your doorstep like a stray cat or if you found it yourself in a mine or a jewelry shop.

Edit: read your spoiler again, Raal.

I really want to be a dragon-rider but don't know how to make it work story wise. hmm.....
O well I figure this out in time.
as you requested

Answers to questions:
1. Going to see my sister(Meyrin)who is currently living in Eleder.
2. Boarded in Magnimar.
3. air support (think of an F-16) :)
4. Noel will be all about being mobile while my partner is all about bring the pain.
5. Training. She knows one day she will have to leave her family to see the world for what it truly is...might as well start now.

GM_Pace wrote:

** spoiler omitted **

Gotcha, I will link to the PFsrd all the relevant stuff on my profile page. About the banner, the ability text doensn't mention any penalities for losing it, it just doesn't work if not shown clearly, that's all. The Standard Bearer archetype simply swap places between the banner and the mount: I get the former at level 1 instead than level 5, and vice versa. Still, if you want to give me penalties for losing it, I can live with that.

I am very interested in joining this. Are you allowing anything from the Advanced Race playtest? It really has little bearing on my class choice but if I can be an advanced race then why the heck not and I would be sure to tie it in to my background somehow. I want to submit a Rogue(Knife master and scout archetype). If your curious what my race would be it would be a modification to the provided catfolk race from the playtest. I have it drawn up already if you want to see it check the spoiler. If your not allowing the advanced race playtest I will easily just change the race(probably human or elven).

Catfolk template:

Traits
Type: Humanoid 0 RP
Size: Medium 0 RP
Base Speed: Normal 0 RP
Advanced Modiviers(-2 str, +4 dex, +2 int, +2 wis, +2 cha) 4 RP
Language: Standard Array 1 RP

Abilities
Advanced Dex 4 RP
Fortunate 4 RP
Cats Luck 1 RP
Fast 1 RP
Claws 2 RP
Bite 1 RP
Silent Hunter 2 RP

Total Cost: 20 RP

Regretfully I'm not going to be able to join you...currently playing in five active PbP games and running two more, and work has suddenly taken a turn for the excessively interesting.

Noel:

Noel, being a dragonrider would be...interesting. I've read the OGC entry, but I think you would have a very hard time explaining a dragon onboard the ship. Also, certain aspects of Serpent's Skull (i.e., dungeons and other small places) may not allow such a Large mount.

Let me add a stipulation to your Dragonrider dragon: they are cursed, much the same way the Oracle class is cursed. When you and your dragon are not Focused, i.e., not in combat, the dragon is polymorphed into a humanoid (your choice, human, elf, gender, etc.) of a very young age (six for a human), with stats of "10", and is mute. The stats of the curse would change as you level in levels of Dragonrider, or you could find a way of breaking the curse. Your dragon would act normally, including talking and intelligence for their age, when Focused.

If you can't agree to the curse, tell me. I think this would balance your class with the others, give you a fantastic backstory and roleplay opportunity, and not intimidate the other players. Even Summoners (APG) don't keep their bonded eidolon out all of the time.

(In the background you can hear GM_Pace muttering "Please let her pick a Bronze. An easy Bronze. Just not a Gold. A game-breaking Gold.")

Raal:

Raal, because of the banner/mount Level1/Level5 swap, I believe you should treat your banner as sacred as your mount. The penalties would switch back to your mount once you got it at Level 5. It's an interesting concept, the Samurai/Standard Bearer, and it gave me an instant flashback to the Visionaires of the 1980s.

mathpro18:

mathpro18, it's Pazio material, so it gets a pass - provided you adjust any details when the playtest gets finalized in the PRD. I am curious from a roleplaying aspect - what would the appearance be of your catfolk person? Golarion is not very friendly with species-ism from the humans, elves, and dwarves. I don't want you singled out as "unusual=evil" among the uneducated before the game even starts.

John / Dragolan, thanks for the reply! Sorry to see your plate is full. Good gaming.

GM Pace:

LOL I was thinking about using a gold but then i rediscover a little story i wrote with an idea of using a brass! now at the moment i am trying to work out a story for her; but at the moment i am really thinking of either going for the brass and play ground support or the sliver since I love both brass and sliver dragons the most. and for the cruse sure i love it when DM give me story ideas you might actually save a lot of time explain the pact idea I have going for Noel. can I ask if I can use this mark on both her and the yet to be name dragon? PIC
For the dragon on a ship problem will this curse solve it or do I need to find a way to smuggle my friend aboard?
Edit: after looking at the copper he looking really good too...at this moment it either copper or the brass for ease of use.

GM_Pace:

If you don't mind I'd make it female. She'd have a feline face(aposable ears, wiskers, cat like eyes). She would be bipedal and have a tail. I'm probably going to give her black fur and blue eyes.

The challenge is going to be explaining how she exists. I'm thinking some sort of science(Wizards) experiment that went wrong or she was a summoners familiar that somehow didn't die when the summoner was killed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Formal application(questions answered):

1. Why are you aboard the ship?

She would be a stowaway on the ship and she's trying to escape a rather troubled past. Either her master(summoner) just died and for some reason she was able to still exist and continue on living or she's trying to flee from the wizard that created her.

2. At which port did you board or are you a stowaway?

She is a stowaway but she would probably board from Pezzack and has been hiding below deck since then.

3. What will your character contribute to the group?

She is very skilled with a knife. She makes a normal rogues work with a knife look like child's play. She is also very diplomatic and very charismatic if she can get people to look past her strange...heritage.

4. What are your plans for your character mechanically?

She will be going full rogue for now but might dip into a PrC later(shadow dancer or some of the other more roguish PrC's). She will have the knife master and scout archetypes. These basically give her the ability to use d8's on sneak attack(knife master) + sneak attack on a charge(scout).

5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?

She will need to learn to accept the judgement from people she might get. At first she really lets the racism she encounters bother her and thats what eventually makes her flee Cheliax and hide aboard the ship. When stranded on the island she will be faced with the hard task of making the party trust her as an outsider. Once she gains the trust of the party she will try and stand up against the racism that she's sure to encounter once further along.

If given the opportunity she wouldn't mind facing the past and being able to figure out she she came from/how she exists.

The Exchange

GM Pace:
I had realized that it usually meant illegal when I wrote it. I was planning on coming out of Ilizmagorti, as well.

On manifesting, no, I have no plans to Manifest at this time.

Edit: I can't find a starting wealth value for Aegis. What would you like me to use?

Edit: GM Pace, check out the spoiler again.

GM Pace:

OK working with what I got I now have an idea on what to do, but I need to get some sleep and get ready for my graveyard shift at UPS...
I will check on my phone before I go in but you probably won't hear anything more from me until after work. which hopefully i will have everything done by then. i am planning on the cruse taking shape as a young elf female copper dragon if that changes anything...

Noel:

Noel, the curse on your companion will get them onboard the ship as your ward or child.

I was going to suggest a necklace or anklet that can't be removed, but if you want a tattoo-mark, that's fine as well.

Let me add amnesiac to your dragon companion, Focused or not. So, mute and amnesiac and clinging to Noel. :)

You mentioned airborne in your first post, so a flying dragon might be better for you than a land-borne dragon.

mathpro18:

I'm getting an anime catgirl vibe here. Just stay away from fully furry. I was about to suggest the Stowaway campaign trait until you beat me to it. You could be trying to go to the Expanse on a rumor of seeing "your own kind", or just fleeing persecution. I like the Cheliaxian connection - a failed summoning. Just be aware most cities will be Human or Human-majority with a lot of prejudice. Primitive tribesmen in the deep jungle are worse.

Edgar:

The Aegis from Psionics Expanded: Unlimited Possibilities doesn't give a starting gold average? Well, I guess you're broke....just kidding! Take the same as the DSP Psychic Warrior - 5d4 × 10 (average 125gp). Your Get the Cargo Through campaign trait (if taken) also gives you an additional 300 gp.

Those with the Stowaway campaign trait need to realize that they will probably have to stay out of sight of the rest of the crew until *cough, cough* something happens. So those characters might be "roleplay light" until a Certain Event.

The Exchange

GM Pace:
Sounds good. If it's in there, I can't find it.

Edit:Also, I will be taking the Get the Cargo Through Campaign Trait.

Edit: GM Pace, check it out again. Hopefully this doesn't get to be a habit for me.

I am definitely going to offically apply. Probably with something Psionic so I can try out the rules I helped work on(I was a playtester).

I am thinking of being a Vurdian, from a monestary some place localish. Any suggestions would be great.

Gm Pace:
I know I fully expect it to be a problem and part of my characters growth will be learning to not let it bother her. And yes I'm thinking anime cat girl style but with claws and a bite attack. I think I'm going to make her body hairless(except her head and tail) to help make her look a little more human.

I should have a full background up either later tonight or more likely tomorrow. Is there anything else I can do to increase my ability to get into this because I see this character developing into something I really want to play.

Dark Archive

I still need to come up with a name, but here is my application.

answers:
Half-Elf(Varisian)
Bard(Archivist)

1. Why are you aboard the ship?
Has hired himself on as the ships cook’s assistant(peeling potatoes and what not) to pay for passage to Sargava, wanting explore the ruins he has read about in stories.
2. At which port did you board or are you a stowaway? Magnimar
3. What will your character contribute to the group? Knowledge of the unknown and party buffs, He is a Bookworm who wanted to see what was out there not just Read about it.
4. What are your plans for your character mechanically? Mechanically I would want to go bard for at least 3 more levels Concentrating on his Knowledge skills then realizing the world is more harsh than what he has read learn a little combat going into one of the Martial classes.
5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective? He would like to discover something that might make him the envy of all those in Korvosa that made fun of him for having his nose buried in books.

Monkeygod:

Monkeygod, a Vudrani monk will be difficult but no means impossible. The closest port for a monastery would be Absalom itself, according to the Pathfinder Campaign Setting. You boarded the Jenivere where you wanted to (Cheliax is closest), and you could be a simple explorer who is also psionic. Interestingly, the Campaign Setting says Vudrani do not eat beef or chicken, only fish for meat.

mathpro18:

mathpro18, it's first come, first served right now because none of the people I invited have either read this recruitment or decided not to join.

LackofFocus:

LackofFocus, Rambar Terillo, Ship's Cook, rebuffs your attempts to enter the galley and throws you out with some oaths, saying, "I've been the only cook the Captain needs for years, and I'll not have a landlubber at my stove! Go scrub the decks, fishbait!"

I'll give you time to change your character, if needed.

All right, the 24-hour summary of applications:

Edgar Lamoureux, playing ________, going with psionic Aegis (tank and crafter)
Monkeygod, playing _________, thinking about a psion? monk?
Raal Saikhan, playing himself as a Ronin (melee Fighter)
Noel Vermillion, playing herself as a Dragonrider with a companion
mathpro18, playing ___________, a catgirl Rogue (scout/knife-fighter)
LackofFocus, playing __________ (Bard)

with
Solos waiting in the wings.

We are surprisingly light in both arcane and divine spellcasting (Noel's companion notwithstanding). No blasters. No healers. No utility casters. Now, this can be overcome with various Feats and skills such as Use Magic Device with Skill Focus, healing kits, the Heal skill with Skill Focus and a decent WIS bonus, holy water vials, cold iron weapons, etc. Rogues and smart Fighters are good for that. Likewise, Monkeygod has some options open to him in choosing his psionic manifesting powers to heal, even at 1st Level. There's even traits (Faith trait Sacred Touch, for instance) to give you healing power. But this team is looking a little vulnerable to undead and there's no one to plunder any magical spellbooks or wands you may come across. No one to heal others in battle or take care of mundane and magical diseases and curses. This is not an AP for wimps in that regard. I'm not a "killer GM" but the AP is not going to let me pull any punches.

I'm not telling anyone to change anything about their character. I'm just giving advice as I read the Serpent's Skull Adventure Path from my local comic book store. Solos, if you come in as a super-Cleric or Oracle in that regard (healing/anti-undead), you just got your hint. Likewise, to all applicants: when nobody can open the locked chest, it's a problem. When nobody can heal, it's a Total Party Kill. I love cross-training and making Jack-of-All-Trades. Think outside of the box.

I'd also like to see some names for these characters *cough, cough*. :)

Adrian Fierro:

Half-Elf(Varisian)
Cleric
1. Why are you aboard the ship?
LOL, Well Then, Adrian is on a quest for his goddess all he has gotten are visions of a ship and a jungle. He found the first ship he could heading to Sargava to find why his to where his goddess wants him.
2. At which port did you board or are you a stowaway? Magnimar
3. What will your character contribute to the group? Healing, Knowledge of the unknown and party buffs.
4. What are your plans for your character mechanically? Mechanically I would want to go cleric for at least 3 more levels Concentrating on his on his healing then dipping into fighter for the dervish.
5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective? To find what his goddess has sent him to find.

Still working on him, but Phillip Conti, Human Aegis, is on the way.

Edit: Also, Phillip isn't really going to be much of a tank. He'll be a mobile melee combatant with some ranged options.

I'm open to switching my character around to help out as I am not dead set on a Psionic build. Got a couple of concepts I can play, including a Half-Orc Jungle Druid with the Jungle Domain, a Halfling or Human Rogue of some sort, or a Witch.

Phil's done. His profile is updated, but I'm in the process of linking it now.

Edit: I can't think of anything else that needs to be linked. I you want me to link anything else, notify me please.

ok, here's my current thoughts, hadozee (from stormwrack, +2 dex, -2 cha) among other things.

wizard of the water school at least to start.

Spoiler:

1. Why are you aboard the ship?
As a hazodee, I have been on or around ships my whole life, my dream is to become wealthy enough from voyages, to be the majority owner, or captain of my own ship. Given my background and knowledge I am a minor officer, ship's mate perhaps.

2. At which port did you board or are you a stowaway?

I boarded at a Chelish port city, my previous ship captain having fallen into a bit of legal trouble, with the previous ship owners sons fighting each other in court over proper ownership.

3. What will your character contribute to the group?

My character will contribute boundless optimism, general know-how, and arcane knowledge.

4. What are your plans for your character mechanically?

My plans are to stay straight wizard for several levels, if i go into a prestige class it may be loremaster.

5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?

story-wise, my character is interested in making contacts, and money, towards setting himself up as a merchant captain.

The Proposal:

I'm very fond of the Dragonrider class but found it far too restrained for my liking. I have been working on a revamp. SGG still has all the rights to the product I just like to make it a little more rounded and sensible. Besides I'm in a party now and frankly a Standard action to focus so that I can do two claw attacks while a summoner with his flying Eidolin is using haste and getting full attacks per round for both of them just tells me how broken focus is...

Dragonrider Class

You will find that the dragonrider has the spellcasting of a Bard for the time being, making them a better support character and also giving them a little more spellcasting options, like healing and buffing/debuffing.

HP is dropped to d8 and attack table is also set at the bards pace.

The class also has Diminished spellcasting like the magus Archetypes, this was to ensure the class wasn't to overly powerful starting off.

I eventually want to make a seperate spell table for Dragonriders, but I work 14 hr days and time as of late is hard to come by...

Dragonsteed table

You may be confused where it says dragon size[/i] [b]base that is because wyrmlings start off either Tiny or Small. Silver Dragons are Size Small as Wyrmlings, while Black Dragons are Tiny. Like I said its a work in progress.

All of this is still a work in progress and for the most part still follows along the lines of the original class. Instead of having a flying mount right out of first level, you start with a wyrmling and as you advance in levels, so do they too advance. Growing and changing as you gain experience together. I built the table using 1/4 and 1/3 of the normal progressions off the True Dragons table in the bestiary.

I will eventually make a separate damage table and build it where the dragons are more balanced.

Let me know what you think. chandsker@gmail.com is my email and I appreciate any input you have.

Basically I was hoping to try out my Revamp in your game, if it turns out not to your liking or you want to see something tweaked then we can do that. I just thought I would put that out there. =)

Granted I don't mind joining the game as a normal Dragonrider if there is room, I just wanted to show you what i'm working on.

Adrian Fierro:

Adrian Fierro, could you specify which dervish you could be multiclassing or prestige classing into?

Monkeygod:

Monkeygod, there is the Psion(Egoist), who can pick Natural Healing at Level One and Empathic Transfer at Level Two. But psions are weak in healing until higher levels. So if you want to play a druid, that may be more role-fulfilling for the team. You can also go Oracle, which is what I hear the main "healer" class is now for Pathfinder. Your choice.

Corerue:

Corerue, while I can appreciate new classes, and I specifically said I'm opening this campaign up to non-standard races and 3rd party content, I'll have to draw the line at homebrew. If it's not in a published book aka the PRD or OGC SRD, then I don't have it, and to keep the game fair I'll have to stick to those sources. Sorry, it looks like you put a lot of work into your changes on Dragonrider. Feel free to re-apply.

Solos:

Solos, we have our first arcane applicant. Now, there's a big debate about wizards and vulnerable spellbooks in water. Don't worry about that with me. But do realize you are going into a jungle campaign with a limited number of spell components and parchment and purchase wisely.

Does your Stormwrack race have a link on the OGC SRD? I'll have to dig into my collection and see if I have the book. If I don't, you may have to add a lot to your character page to explain your race.

Still plenty of time for more submissions and tweaks to current characters.

Dark Archive

GM PACE:
Sorry Fighter with the archetype dawnflower dervish him being a follower of Sarenrae

Gm Pace:

OK will work to help out with buffs and UMD.
it might take me longer to make a story for her...I know what to do when it comes times for the pact to happen but having trouble with the foreground or in simple terms explaining with this family exists. i am over thinking this or should i try to make this story work?
I will be updating here soon to reflect most of the changes i am done all that is left is the story.

Noel Vermillion:

Noel, if you don't think it presumptuous, I can try some blurbs that might help you get started.

- a dragon cursed by the gods to live the life of the person he/she accidentally killed; said person was a Human or Elven child with a prophetic future ahead of them

- a family whose great-great-great grandfather founder was a "Dragon Cohort" or "Dragon Familiar" (actual 3.0 Draconomicon feats), who gets contacted by the same dragon that their founder befriended (or the same type) and instructed to "take care of" a child given to them. No explanation. The family was expecting a dragon egg instead and have no idea what to do with the child.

or

- a family of wizards who insist each son or daughter become school-trained court wizards. You rebel and run away, picking up your companion while on the run.

or

- a person with a bright future ahead of her as an adventurer receives dreams instructing her to go and find a child on the side of the road, then to get on a boat heading south.

or

- you see a child being sold as a slave in the Cheliaxian marketplace. You use an opportunity to run away with the child.

The tattoo can be intentional, coincidence, or prophetic.

Gm Pace:

I have found an O S### button but from what i read it seems to only work if the enemies are about to die. can I ask for you ruling to make this work on our enemies as well? the feat in question is called Cry for Mercy it in part 3 of the serpents skull AP page 77 i already copy it into my profile if you can give a glance; it might just solve a lot of problems down the road. thanks for some of the story ideas i will try put something together :). anyway the character build it self is almost done. thanks you for the assist

Just realized I forgot traits. I'll put those on there real quick.

Noel Vermillion:

Noel, it seems to be a strange feat to me - why try to stabilize all your dying foes? It doesn't work on friendlies. It's also deep in an adventure path with no real use other than what may be in a story line. I'll have to veto it for now. Keep it in mind for a future feat.

Also, it's generally not a good idea to tell the GM you're pre-read the module(s). I don't mind, as long as you keep it to yourself, but I have seen GMs walk away from the table when they've discovered someone is doing that. Just a warning, don't get flustered.

We'll work out what Tessara can do in "cursed" mode as opposed to "dragon" mode. I think a "dynamic" curse that changes over time will be good for the story.

Phillip Conti:

Phillip, where the heck did you find a hammock in the PRD? APG, or UC? I've been looking for one of those for ages.

Solos:

Solos, a Google search on your hazodee indicates it might be simian instead of humanoid. Can you clarify that for me? Otherwise, you may need some Disguise skill or other means of passing off as "humanoid" to the Inner Sea folk. I don't want you or the catgirl mistaken for pets.

Keep working on those character pages, folks. Serpent's Skull is a little more exacting when it comes to backpacks and gear than most APs. You never know when you'll need that kitchen sink handy. Your character page should include feats, traits (don't forget, one from Serpent's Skull Player's Guide, one from anywhere), equipment weight, how strong your character is (Light/Medium/Heavy), maybe some future plans for when you hit the jungle at Eleder, etc.

GM Pace:

o no I have HeroLab it show me this feat and told me where it is at!
I don't cheat it against my code. ya like I figure don't worry about it I am getting rid of it.

GM Pace:
They're in Adventurer's Armory. I just went to look, thinking it was, in fact, in the APG, and was surprised to see that it isn't. The big thing about Hammock's is the full-round action into/out of it, unless you make a DC 5 Dex check. Anyway, here's a link to it on the SRD

Hey GM Pace, what about ability scores? It is point or should we roll? And do you want me to work on my background a little more or do you have particular suggestions before I do it?

As stated above, Raal, it's 20-point buy. That gives everyone decent scores before racial modifiers. Add some free friction lock clasps to the back of your armor so you can hoist that banner and still have two hands free. That way you look more like the Visionaries knights. As far as a background, you're free to write it as you will, as long as you end up on the Jenivere going to Eleder. If you need help, I can read up on Samurai in Golarion and spin off some ideas.

Still a full day left! Plenty of time for more submissions.

Everyone, when you get to it, add where you boarded the ship at on your character page. I'm going to need it as part of the plot.

Hi Pace! This is Jasper Finn from the ill fated last game. I see that we have a couple of Roguish types already so I don't want to cramp their style by putting Jasper back in unless you really want him. I have a couple of ideas for characters but I am definitely interested in getting back into the Shiv!

Ok, I have been thinking, rereading the players information, and have come up with the following option, verdant (from APG) sorceror.

As an half-orc, some of my ancestors were originally from Sargava, and family legend says, some may have been powerful druids, or connected to the power of nature in some way. As a verdant sorcerer I have long felt drawn by tales have my ancestral home in Sargava, and have finally earned enough to buy my passage on the Jenivere.

Trait: Mwangi Scholar, Child of Nature (survival class skill).

what are people using for character sheets, is there any site recomended?

stats will be str 10. dex 10. con 12 int 14 wis 10 cha 16
with +2 in charisma, i believe that's legit for 20 point buy?

if people have other suggestions let me know

Here is Adriano Fierro I am still working on his Equipment.

Solos:

Solos, Half-Orc Verdant Sorcerer? I dub thee the Green Giant, protector of corn and green bean crops everywhere. :)

I use the Pathfinder 1.0.8 auto-calc PDF from James the Bard.net. It's not perfect, but it will do most of the calculations. For equipment I've gone to Excel spreadsheets.

I'm counting 12 (2) + 14 (5) + 16 (10) = (17), you've still got 3 points to spend on the 20-point buy, Solos. The +2 to CHA will make it 18. Given that you're a half-orc, you might want to put those 3 points into Strength.

imimrtl:

Jasper! Yes, I think we have enough Rogue entries. So far no one has submitted a Druid or Paladin. This Serpent's Skull is open to 3rd party sources, and I'm frankly amazed at the lack of min-max'ing I thought such an offer would bring out. I'm having to poke these guys and gals with a stick to get them to think outside the box. You'd think they'd be combining race, class, feats, and traits into super-heroes. I actually had to remind them about healing and anti-undead (the Big Three for low-level adventures: animals, undead, and other fighters) a few posts ago. Only one person has crafting on their character sheet. Get something that can both damage and heal with some undead-blasting thrown in, and you'll rise to the top of the heap.

Post an applicant quick, I'm closing this tomorrow (27 Oct) at midnight with the 28th.

The 24-hour applicant summary:

Phillip Conti, going with psionic Aegis (mobile melee combatant with some ranged options and weaponsmith)
Monkeygod, playing _________, thinking about a psion? monk? druid? witch?
Raal Saikhan, Ronin (melee Fighter)
Noel Vermillion, Dragonrider with Tessara (swordswoman with wand use right now, more later)
mathpro18, playing ___________, a catgirl Rogue (scout/knife-fighter) (Stowaway)
Adrian Fierro (Cleric, then Dancing Dervish)
Solos, playing ____________, Half-Orc Verdant Sorcerer
Corerue, playing ____________, another Dragonrider

with
imimrtl showing interest.

I'm frankly amazed at the entries. Keep working at them. The more complete the entry, stats and backstory, the better chance of getting started with the game. I'm not going to take a name and a promise - it won't work once we start on the Jenivere.

Ok so I think I am going to do a Tiefling with the Tiefling Heritage feat. Probably some sort of fighter or barbarian, although I am toying with a synthesis summoner.

EDIT: Pace, Just saw your post, perhaps a cleric or anti-pally is in order. Maybe an oracle. I'll have to think a bit.

I'm kind of embarrassed to be asking this but can someone check my math on this...I want to make sure I have my stats done right.

20 point build no racial adjustments(stats in order): 16, 12, 14, 14, 8, 10

That adds to 20 points right?

EDIT: I just realized you don't want dump stats...umm it adjusts up to a 10 would that be okay...otherwise I need to squeeze another 2 points from the build. Any suggestions on how to do that?

For the build final stats look like this(again in order): 14, 18, 14, 16, 10, 12

I keep going back and forth on things. Any preferences between druid, cleric, oracle, pally?
