Raal is a mercenary warrior from the remote regions of Tian La. Born in a small village in the middle of the Estern steppe, he showed a impetous temperament since he was a small boy. This is why his parents give him the name Raal Saikhan (Roaring Lion-Chief). He learned the art of hunting and riding from the horselords of his region, and when he was of age, he travelled to the capital of the Dragon Kigdoms to learn the art of war too. He joined the Order of the Black Paw, a group of selfish and ruthless samurais, cavaliers and fighters who believe that everyone who can impose his will with a sword is always right, and that only martial prowess is to be respected and feared (akin to the Order of the Cockatrice).
After the Order was dismantled by a rival one, Raal was one of the few survivors, and decided to use his abilities to protect who had enough money to deserve it, and started working as a mercenary and a bodyguard for rich merchants. Thing is, he hates this job, because it is not challenging and incredibly boring. This is why he decided to do it one last time: escorting a rich merchant from Cheliax and his cargo of demon relics and body parts will give him quite a lot of money. He boarded on the Jenevere from Corentyn, along with the merchant.
Whit the shipwreck of the Jenivere, Raal has found the perfect opportunity to prove to himself that he's a great warrior and that not even the jungles can kill him. He would stick with the a group of survivor only because they are all in this together, so he might as well make good use of their abilities if this helps him survive survive. He's quite hot blooded, and prone to jumping into fights regardless of his personal safety if he believes that is facing a fair challenge.
Raal is dressed in a full metallic armor and his helmet doesn't show his facial features. He sports two long linen pennants attached to his arms. They are white with a black lion embroided on them, and their purpose is to make him look more menacing and agile while fighting with two weapons at once, his preferred combat style. A short blowgun is inserted into the slit of his helmet: Raal uses it to blow volatile poisons in the face of unaware opponents, a dirty trick he learned from his mentor of the Black Paw.
