"Red don't like to change human... human weak... Rrr... but change many times... Red only change if in danger..Rrr" says the werecrocodile-kin with a strong stubbornness.
The errata allows skinwalkers to change shape without limit, but it is a standard action to change from human to skinwalker and swift from skinwalker to human. But before the errata it was 3 times a day. I'm assuming there is no need for Red to be hide his identity now as the group did no wrong yet, but when Red feels he is in danger he will change to human skin.

GM PDK |

Main advantage to be in human shape: you're just another face in the crowd. In werecroco shape: 100% chance people will remember they saw you. You're probably the only werecroc skinwalker some of these people will have ever seen in their life (PS: I haven't looked where they are considered 'common' in Golarion, but it's not in Kintargo). So it's up to you to decide when you look like a croc or not.

Roldala grinds the nubs of her ruined teeth in frustration. "We'll make them fear the Croc soon enough, but until then, don't let your pride get us killed."

"Rrr...okay.." Red half-heartedly replies as his scaly tough skin slowly reverts to a light smooth human skin. Under the crocodile exterior is a rough faced man. He doesn't look as strong as he would be in his beast form, but still strong enough that you wouldn't worry about him being pushed around. "Okay, I human now." And his speech no longer is accompanied by the low growling.
Lost +2 Str, and beastial form abilities. Any time at the sight of potential danger, he will waste no time and immediately transform himself

After about an hour trying to come off with disguises (using various props, hats and goggles, supplemented by baggy clothing and cloaks), the party arrives at Clenchjaw's shortly after 3 bells.
Various dock workers, shop keepers and artisans are starting to come in, and a sizable crowd is growing. Two waitresses are busy serving tables, and a large man stands behind the bar counter, wiping glasses halfheartedly and yawning. Seeing you approach the bar, he says, "I have the Three Devil Ale or the Old Erebus whiskey on sale, if you need to slake your thirst. Half price..."

The crowd appears thirsty and hungry. The waitresses are like busy bees, and you hear noise in the kitchen, where more staff are preparing the food for the evening meal. The aromas of stew, soups and baked bread start reaching your noses.
Unless you tell me otherwise I'm gonna assume that medium-size PCs disguise as humans while the small-size PCs disguise as gnomes

"Bartender, you have not answered my question." Andor says with a smile.
"Is this a very busy period? Is something going on in town?"

Andor tries to look around and read people's lips to see if anybody is talking about something interesting.
Any PC may learn to read lips with a rank in Linguistics as if they had learned a new language. When reading the lips of a speaking creature within 10 feet in normal lighting conditions, the reader need not make any skill checks. In situations of dim lighting, extreme distances, or to read the lips of someone trying to hide their words from the reader, the reader must make Perception checks (DC determined by the GM based on the situation). A lip reader may only understand spoken words in a language it knows.

"Oh, sorry... been a bit drowsy lately. Not sure why. It's like I'm always low on energy. My schedule's been thrown out of whack as I keep falling asleep early before the bar closes even, oftentimes waking up after the staff have finished cleaning up the mess. It *has* been really busy since the Badger closed down, as I inherited their clients... but still... maybe I'll need to see a cleric or something. I fall asleep early, and then people start brawls, even taking bets. The quiet paying customer end up leaving and the following battles incur damages on my property... if this keeps up, the dottari will investigate no doubt and I might be out of business..."
------------------------
Andor's low-light vision enables him to read lips in the dimly lit tavern, which allows him to focus on specific conversations which would normally be impossible to hear due to the elevated background noise. The conversations are general in nature but he's able to glean a juicy rumor discussed between two of the more quiet patrons in the group to the right, near the kitchen's door... Moved your pawn within 10 feet of the three groups.

Gnome works for my disguise.
Kardess listens to the bartender and Andor silently at first, but moves closer to the bar after a minute. "I might be able to help, if you wish to save a trip to the church."
The gnome extracts various vials and powders to display on the counter. "Perhaps some smokesticks and foaming powder to help discourage brawling as soon as it begins? And with a little research, I might be able to come up with something to keep you awake and then help you rest."

Back to the bartender:
"I am very sorry that you are suffering from such a condition. May I ask if you have a job for me and my friends? We are able to handle ourselves in a fight and would be eager to help you out sometimes. We are very busy in some periods of time but if we have spare time we could come here and if once in a while a drink and some food is on the house, we would be able to take care of any fights breaking out WITHOUT endangering your guests and without any bad feelings. What do you think?"
diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

GM PDK |

@Andor: you don't have to roll stealth when whispering - you can just state you're whispering.
"So, you want to work as bouncers for free food and drink? huh, how many nights a week are you available? you'd have to sign a standard employment agreement, and technically I'll have to give you each a silver piece per week minimum... even if you get free food. If you want to avoid paperwork filed to... ahem... the local government... then I could call you in on demand as a friend... but I'm no wizard, so I don't know how I'd reach you when things start to get hot here... hey, I can't even guarantee I'll even be able to make it past 7 bells awake, in my current new condition!"

@Kardess
"Oh, if you have remedies against drowsiness that would be lovely! and I like the smoke sticks idea! smoke 'em bastards out and see if they'll carry on their fightin' in the streets! ha ha!"

Andor does not know what to answer "Well, what are your really busy nights?"
He then looks at the others "What do you think guys?"

Maybe he wants to whisper extra softly. Or add a little husky flirting to it :-P
Ha ha ... ok ok ... no more stealth when whispering! :-)

![]() |

Kardess looks to Andor and their other nearby companions, "Perhaps we should start with a single night per week? And see how that goes?"
Turning back to the bartender, the gnome says, "I don't currently have any smokesticks--and would need to experiment first to design a pick-me-up. Unfortunately, I am new in town and still need a place to setup my laboratory. Perhaps you have some empty space? I would happily provide alchemical goods at cost in exchange for the use of an appropriate room."
And that would give us a good excuse for being here so often, if House Thrune ever gets curious.

Red grows fond of Andor and follows the human around to keep him safe. He blends in with the crowd most of the time, but his unusual masculinity is often pointed out by the tavern folk.
stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
At the hearing of the possible fights that needs to be broken up, Red gives a sly smile. "Red happy to work for fish, Red work everyday if must."
As Red is not so much a face character, perhaps he could man the tavern everyday? It would be easy for him break up fights and possible escape if needed via the river next to the tavern.

GM PDK |

Clenchjaw thinks for a minute, then agrees with Kardess and Red.
"Deal! What's your name, so that I know who I'm shaking with. I trust you'll allow me to resell alchemical goods I buy from you at cost yes? and that I will have exclusive selling rights yes? let's keep things informal for a while. If things work out for three months or so, I'll make long-term decision at that point, including but not limited to calling a carpenter in to put in a new door just for you so you don't have to go through the dressing room or common room. You see, sometimes we have visiting bards and they stay in that room... Oh, and Strong Guy: what's your name too? if I don't have a visiting bard you can use the dressing room to relax. Mind you some of the ladies who frequent my tavern sometimes hang out back there, so you'll have to be accommodating until closing time. The rest of you are all welcome too during opening hours, but I'm not an inn - if you don't work for me you'll need to buy your own bed somewhere else, if you don't have one already."
He yawns, then extend his hand to shake it with Kardess, then Red.

"In my experience, most people don't want to start fights they can't finish. I could help keep the peace some nights as well."

Clenchjaw nods. "A powerful woman like you will command respect. Welcome to the night shift. What be thy name, noble warrior?"

GM PDK |

Clenchjaw seems surprised. Pleasantly surprised. "Alright! all of you are hired then! under the table internship, no pay of course. Just food and drinks - but don't overdo it, as you'll cost me too much for whatever you'll bring in. And I wasn't kidding about not being an inn: I have no beds here, just a couch backstage that's seen a lot of act... that's seen better days. Poshvent can setup his lab in the empty room by the office, but I hope you have a place to stay at other than my tav... oh, and for the next three months you can walk away anytime you want and I can kick you out anytime I want. I don't know you, see... deal?"

![]() |

"Ok! Sounds good! Poshvent said the exclusivity lasts only two months but the rest of the deal can last three months with at least one night a week here working as a bouncer and in many cases we will be here often." Andor says smiling.
"And do not worry about beds. We have our own accommodation!"

"Red can sleep on floor. And when start?" Red looks towards Clenchjaw.
Probably we should clarify some stuff, what is the working hours and days of work? Is everyone going to be working here full time? Part time? Since Red is not a good face character or a skill monkey, I would prefer Red to stick his neck in the tavern full time until he is required.

GM PDK |

"You guys can start now if you want! place getting busy... Poshvent, you can start moving your lab in tomorrow night, as I'll need to get some of my personal stuff out. And to answer Andor: no, I'll need exclusive rights, and no sale of the stuff for next two weeks as I'll need to make sure we're not breaking any laws and have all the licenses. I want to make sure *I* have full control of selling *and* advertising this!" says Clenchjaw, as he yawns once more.
This will allow Kardess to do Day Job check but largely for RP only, but you get the feel that Clenchjaw doesn't want his tavern to turn into a drive-thru window for alchemical goods! lol You also get the sense that he wants to make sure his establishment doesn't bring the attention of the dottari and has all the legal papers. So right now he wants Kardess to operate/setup his lab undercover, without advertising it to anyone else (hence his firm exclusivity agreement i.e. nothing to do with cash flow, which is abstracted to Day Job check anyways). However, the space *can* be used for *other purposes* down the road in this campaign, so not a bad perk arrangement for you guys... ;)

The crowd grows as the hour goes by. Magnificent hearty fare scents waft out of the kitchen, which sends your stomach growling. The crowd is mostly happy, loud and loves to drink a lot.
Several people inquire about you, and offer you drinks or ask you if you'll buy them one, depending. Do you engage with the crowd and have fun? do you just try to gather info and try to talk / shout over the din? or do you just hang back and observe, doing typical bouncer duties? You can mix and match i.e. not all of you have to do the same thing, and the above are just suggestions; you may suggest other courses of action.

Red blends into the crowd like a crocodile in tall reeds, and notices that this group of people likes to party and have fun. An unexpected sight in a land such as Cheliax.
Andor overhears the following, a conversation that is shouted amidst the crowd between a half-elf and a dwarf lady:
"Shame they closed down the opera house—I was looking forward to seeing Shensen in the role of Aolar in Huntress of Heroes. Of course, they say she’s gone missing too—wouldn’t surprise me if she got herself thrown in some Thrune oubliette, the way she’s gone on about the government."
Later throughout the hour, SK2 spots something in the rafters, and seeing his eyes drift upwards, Kardess also notices the same!

GM PDK |

Noticing you noticing him, the little blue dragon's eyes widen, and he steps into the shadows, seemingly disappearing with the telltale glitters of magic in his trail!
