Edmund chuckles to himself and shakes his head as he listens to Andor's story, though he allow the human to continue on without interruption.

Small worlds are getting even smaller these days.

Instead of directly answering his new companion, Edmund instead pulls back his cloak just far enough to reveal his wayfinder; attached to his belt. He allows the green-gray fabric to drop again before choosing his words.

"I am originally from Andoran, though most of my life was spent in the Verduran wood. I made my way to Cassomir, then Absalom, and then Thuvia before venturing into Cheliax."

He pauses, reflecting on his long journey to this point. Has it really been that long?

"Cheliax... Cheliax has been an interesting one. A close companion of mine found himself in quiet a scrap of trouble, and managed to get word out to me. Next thing you know, I am on a boat bound for this Pezzack. I manage to get into the city through the blockade, and wouldn't you know it- he had escaped while I was travelling there. Long story short, I couldn't get my way out by sea and found myself traveling overland toward Nidal."

Again his conversation slows for a few moments of reflection, before snaping out of it an continuing the tale.

"Been in Kintargo about 2 weeks. Found some work helping get people who didn't want to be here out, but that dried up with all these proclamations. Finally decide to split town, and the guards wouldn't let me out of the city. 'Go find yourself an Inn, and stay awhile' they told me. That was a week ago."

"It's a shame what they turned this place into. I have no love for the leadership here and it appears its only getting worse. Part of joining the pathfinders is using those connections to help other people out- and these people sure do need help. If I was being honest, I didn't expect to find more of us around here- I just figured that Cheliax drove us all out long ago."

Roldala's own wayfinder bears the imprint of the Delvehaven Star, so called after a famous Chelish Lodge that had been abandoned after the rise of Thrune. "They've been trying. The Society's still trying too hard to make nice if you ask me. My last few expeditions to Cheliax, it felt like both the Lodges and the empire were making us walk around with our hands tied behind our backs." She gives a close-lipped grin, concealing the long-shattered wreckage of her teeth. "But the captains know what they're getting with this run. We can't do it stupid, but no more holding back."

As most of you know by now, tieflings are treated as second-class citizens at best in Cheliax, and despite Kintargo’s progressive attitude, this prejudice is still rampant in the city. The majority of Kintargo’s tieflings never make it out of the city’s most notorious slum—the Devil’s Nursery. Here, tieflings are generally left to live their own lives without much interference, but those who dare to travel far from the area run the risk of facing harassment or worse. This toxic environment does little to give Kintargo’s tieflings a fair chance to rise out of the poverty into which they are born.

It is both an easy task to find the Devil's Nursery, as well as find out the sites of the recent murders- seven in total over approximately two weeks, and the last three in an astounding span of four days since the fourth one! The most recent and seventh murder having happened already two days ago, the locals fear that the eight murder is long overdue (in the sick eyes of the murderer), and everyone is anxious and apprehensive.

You find the locals incredibly helpful in this dire hour, and you are all quickly ushered to the site where the latest victim was found- in an alley near the southern wall of the city. The body was found by a young tiefling woman named Zea, NPCs updated and she immediately escorts you all to the latest crime scene to investigate it.

Marveling at your attires, she says, "You all appear to be proficient adventurers... I've never felt safest out in the streets..." Her chuckle appears forced, and her smile awkward, as if struggling to decide which emotion to put forward, but you can all feel her underlying anxiety and sadness. "Here. Near the wall there. The body was taken away, of course, to prepare it for the funeral... and... well... this is the Devil's Nursery. Kids play in these streets all day long, so I'm afraid there's probably not much left to find here that hasn't been disturbed in the last two days. But by all means, take a look around Sires."

What do you do?

Knowledge Checks

The ratfolk uncovers a single tooth near the wall. Other than that, your collective tracking skills uncover nothing particular other than confirming Zea's story that there's probably a significant traffic in these streets from morning to evening. Thankfully this is early evening, and the streets have quieted significantly.

Knowledge Checks

After you wrap up your search, rounding the corner you come upon a subdued pub that is probably more lively in non-serial killer times... still, the all-tiefling crowd is still significant, and hints at a deep sense of community. As you enter the pub, you note that the tieflings of Devil’s Nursery are on edge, and most go out of their way to avoid speaking to strangers (read: you).

Still... knowing your purpose and duty at this time, and at Zea's urging, you start to mingle and ask questions. Drinks are flowing. Tongues loosen over the next 1d4 ⇒ 2 hours!

Is the tooth humanoid? Large or small?'

As the evening goes on , Edmund is careful not to drink *too* much in his quest for information. At the end of the night, putting his head together with the rest of his newfound companions.

"It seems reasonable that either the locations, or the targets, are important- but not likely both. I am in agreement that its probably the location more than anything else... but you never know."

Knowledge Checks

Andor manages to acquire a rough map of the Devil's Nursery and amazingly, it appears to be to scale. Plotting the murders on the map, Andor finds that they are all within 400 feet of a certain spot on the map. One of the locals say that this is the site of a collapsed tavern.

Based on Edmund's investigation, the victims appear unrelated to each other, and come from all walks of life. It appears the killer's chooses his victims at random.

Knowledge Checks

Zea leads you to the alley you plotted on your map. She confirms that this is indeed the site of an old tavern that partially collapsed. The building is condemned and long-abandoned. Interestingly, you all see a hole at the back of the building, which seems to lead in the basement of the collapsed portion of the building.

It's not a big hole: any medium creature would need to succeed at a DC 20 Escape Artist check to get in there...

This is really hilarious!! ;-) GM: Andor has the trait LESSONS OF CHALDIRA (Religion: Chaldira Zuzaristan): Your studies of Chaldira Zuzaristan's exploits have given you a knack for avoiding trouble. Once per day, when you fail a saving throw, you can reroll the saving throw. You must take the second result even if it is worse. (PFCo: FoP 20)

Will save : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

As I do not know if this is enough Andor will use 2 inspiration points to add d6 to this saving throw as an immediate action. Inspiration : 1d6 ⇒ 3

Final Will save vs. Sleep: 18

Andor almost falls asleep but gets a grip on himself and attacks the dentist above Red with his Rapier.

Andor nearly skewers the diminutive fey near Red, but Roldala attempts to put an end to this by reaching for the tiny thing with a big meaty swat with her right hand! The tooth fairy angrily tries to pinch Roldala's fingers as she reaches for him!

...missing Roldala's fingers by at least one inch (which is huge by the diminutive creature's standards). Roldala takes a hold of the miniature dentist in her muscular right hand. Sorry Roldala - no damage on the first round of grappling; next round though you can apply spikes damage, unarmed damage, move the creature at half speed or even pin it in your right hand if you successfully maintains the grapple - you have it in a grapple and it's at 0 hp right now; it literally feels like you're holding a butterfly in your hand, i.e. you feel pretty confident it won't break away from your grasp with its complete lack of actual force... but it can still try to bite if it's not pinned, although the chances of success are very slim...

Red steps closer to the hole and despite the cover, the fey has no chance to survive the onslaught from the croc-that-walks. Taken out of the map.

Red and SK2 can still hear one of the fey laughing down the hole... the one who made out with one of SK2's four front fangs!

SK2 bleeds profusely from the deep hole in his gums, the coppery taste of blood filling his mouth and a throbbing pain starting, no doubt announcing major swelling for the day to come!! (which will impact his speech and appearance, no doubt! ;) ) -1 hp at beginning of Round 3

Is the whole a straight drop, or more of a burrow? Is it Dark?

Edmund moves over near the mouth of the hole, taking a moment to find a small stone piece of rubble. With a waive of his hand, the stone glows white with light- and he tosses it into the hole.

Cast light, Move 15 ft. Toss stone (free?)

Knowledge Checks

More like a burrow, so very hard for medium creatures to get in there or throw things in. I allowed splash damage due to the action of gravity. Therefore, cast and move is all you can do. The tossing will require a standard action ranged touch (use same rules as angling a fireball bead through an arrow-slit). SK2 is small though so he would not have any problems going in and shooting something...

Knowledge Checks

Red is stuck. SK2, however, moves freely within the cozy hole.

An investigation of the tooth fairies’ den reveals a chamber slowly being decorated with teeth of all sorts; in time, the tooth fairies hope to wallpaper the entire area with teeth, but for now only a few disturbing patterns decorate the walls. In the center of one of these is a gold tooth worth 250 gp. You also find SK2's missing fang, which has only been detached for a few seconds... SK2 is still bleeding by the way: what do you do with the tooth and/or the bleeding situation?

A more interesting find than the gold tooth lies in the far side of the area, where the broken, toothless body of a young tiefling child has been set in a place of reverence in a niche in the wall. The child’s body has been tightly wrapped with thick preserved sinews, its wrists and ankles shattered and bound with cold iron chains. All but one of its teeth have been knocked from its jaws. An examination of the grisly find reveals dozens of phrases have been inscribed in Aklo in very fine writing along the sinews, which have come from an adult tiefling.

A character who unravels the sinews and can read Aklo can decipher the phrases with a successful DC 20 Linguistics check:
—this reveals the awful truth that the child was a sacrifice for a vile ritual to create the tooth fairies. The murderers of Devil’s Nursery
were no happenstance event—they were engineered. No clues exist to point the heroes toward the perpetrator of this vile act, however.

Andor is in a state of shock and questions if he really wants to see the horrible sight of the deceased boy.

”I ... I do not know much about these beings. But ... but this is just ... just unbelievable! I ... I just hope that this is the last victim we find.“ Andor says in a very sad voice.

”We ... we have to examine the body and find out what these fairies wanted. SK2 ... please bring the body up carefully.“

Andor can hardly look at the boy but forces himself to free the kid and tries to decipher the writing.
