Thanks for the corrections, Khardir. Other than that, so far so good.

Here's a reminder of your accrued loot (and other rewards) so far:

  • 2 Small leather armors
  • masterwork Small studded leather armor
  • 2 Small slings
  • 3 Small spears
  • masterwork Small shortbow
  • 17 arrows
  • 3 potions of cure moderate wounds
  • 5 gems worth 20 gp each (according to Khardir, at least)
  • Hunclay's key-ring (like, not a ring of keys, but a finger ring with a key built into it)
  • 2 mithral daggers (with a strange series of notches carved into the flat of each blade)
  • 60 platinum pieces

I'm assuming that Nyzaj allows you to have the other dagger, so someone else can claim that if they wish.

(As for our intrepid kobold, I will assume that he is delivered to the temple of Shelyn to recover.)

Feel free to keep roleplaying, or if you're done, tell me where you'd like to go next. It's still afternoon-ish in game, so you could go have another look at the dungeons before calling it a day—or pick something else from the quest list, and pursue that instead. You aren't on any strict schedule when it comes to the kobolds, but obviously the baroness would want you to get it done sooner rather than later.

Just as an aside, in case it affects your future plans: note that the map depicting Belhaim's environs is relatively small in scale. By my estimation, it would take about twenty minutes or so to get to the quarry (assuming you don't get lost, or stumble across a monster or some other hazard). You don't need to prepare for a long trip, is all I'm saying.

I say we try the daggers in the tower dungeon's treasury to see if that unlocks it.

Yeah, it'll take a while, what with the acid pit and all, but eventually you'll be able to get it all out of there. Maybe a point of damage or two, but nothing that can't be fixed by a night's rest. I can certainly set up the scene at the Wise Piper when I have time for another post, but you can assume that you get there before sundown, and feel free to chat amongst yourselves about what comes next.

Object Reading is a really cool ability, so do keep using it. :)

Back home from vacation and now have access to Hero Lab again! I have updated Bel to a 2nd level witch, and have detailed the changes below. Also, I have added the spell hoard spoiler to keep track of her spellbook with the informational links.

I actually have no issue giving it all to the town. Just throwing it out there.

The lovely baroness gave us fifty platinum. While the coffers held 18,500 cp, 4,000 sp, 115 gp, 14 pp, a teak case containing 30 gems that was worth 800gp.

We don't actually need all of that. Yes it would be awesome I could buy some sweet magical stuff but public opinion will matter more in the eventual murder of the noble and placing ourselves in the noble seats! Muawhahaha!...

No my actual reason. Having the town liking us is always better than not. Bernard is clearly not well liked and some of us are outsiders employed by the baroness. Most of the time the peasants do no like their rulers or the rulers lackeys. We are not giving it to the baroness but giving it to the towns people. We are buying loyalty!

Also it occurs to me I have not even two coppers to rub together to my name so how are we dividing up the payment from the Baroness? And what is the group wanting to do with the money found in the tower? If we are divining it how? I mean I was planing on not keeping my portion but knowing matter.

Normally I would be fine with spreading a little goodwill, but Bel being the character she is, I don't think would ever part with gold rightfully gained for herself. It has a mechanical effect too, as she needs to keep amassing gold (100 gp per level) to continually commune and use her powers.

For simplicity, I would assume an even split across everyone, Vibenia included.

Mechanically having to be greedy is really cool actually Bel. That archetype is a fun one.

If we are sharing with Vibenia, which I am totally cool with, than the reward from the Baroness is 10pp each.

While the coffers split 5 ways is 3700 cp, 800 sp, 23 gp, while the platinum turns into 2.8 for us all. So 2pp and it needs to be broken into gold.

Though my recommendation is 2pp each and the other 4pp goes to the towns coffers as does the 800gp worth of gems.

Though Bel if you wanna go shiny dragon then you could trade out some coins for some gems. Way easier to carry.

Vibenia Scaeva : Female Human Ranger 12 |103/103 HP | AC 21 (22) T 17 FF 16 | Fort +11 Ref +14 Will +8 | Initiative +5 (+9/+7) | Perception +14 (+18/+16/+14) Sense Motive +9 (+15/+13/+11)

Also consider that since this is a pretty unconventional party, and well be dealing with enemies dropping small sized gear, it may be a while before your next chance to upgrade your stuff.

Maps | Monsters | NPCs

How you deal with your loot is entirely up to you—I have enough on my plate without having to worry about extra math. I still recommend having someone take over the role of treasurer, or at least setting up a document that everyone can edit, as discussed before. Unless there is a system in place, things are bound to get a bit messy as you accrue more stuff.

As for donating money to the town: giving away everything would certainly hurt you mechanically, so I don't recommend that. As Bernard suggested, 100 gp or so would be a large enough sum to make a real difference. That would certainly help you ingratiate yourself to the town's Abadaran population, basically restoring Bernard's status amongst the congregation. Mechanically, that would make any Abadaran NPC's initial disposition towards him improve by one step. If a PC is obviously a worshiper of an opposing religion, an NPC's initial reaction is decreased by one step. So, it's a trade-off. This goes for Vibenia as well: she'd have an easier time dealing with followers of the Green Faith than others. So, if you want to have an edge in any specific encounter, you might want to think about who's doing the talking.

I should point out that I don't see any NPC's disposition as "set" before you've interacted with them in some fashion, usually requiring a roll. Doing a quest for an NPC mostly bypasses all of this, immediately making them helpful.

Bernard Hammersmith wrote:

The town's Base Value is 1,000 gp. Any mundane items under that price are available, as long as it makes any sort of practical sense that they would be sold in a remote town in Taldor. Marcus Chance is now hostile towards you, so buying metal weapons or armor is going to be difficult. Any magical items priced under 1,000 gp have a 75% chance of being available, with GM approval for more obscure objects.

As for specific magical items, here's a handy list:

  • House of Abadar: +1 light crossbow, +2 longsword, scroll of restoration (3), wand of cure moderate wounds (39 charges)
  • Shrine of the Seven Roses: deep red sphere ioun stone, goggles of minute seeing, wand of lesser restoration (43 charges)
  • Sensina Hides: +1 studded leather armor
  • Delbin's Devices: +1 frost short sword, golembane scarab, ring of minor acid resistance
  • Chance Smithy: +1 bashing heavy steel shield

And again, making the proprietor of any of these establishments helpful towards the group will result in a 10% discount. I probably need to throw together a sheet where you can view your relationships with the townsfolk...

Nisany Blim wrote:

I know Nisany is gonna donate 100gp for now.

You could certainly open up a basic deposit account for 5 gold, if you so wish.

Just that you know, beyond Bernard's initial 100 gp, you'll need to find other ways of buying good-will. The banker would recommend that you invest directly in local businesses instead of just filling the town coffers. That would be a good way of improving their attitudes personally, giving you access to those sweet, sweet discounts. To increase everyone's dispositions all at once, you would have to give out a lot of money.
