The Captain responds, "OK then. You are oathbound to me now. You do what I tell you!" One of the other ship mates take you to a cabin and gives you some sailing gear/clothes.
You travel for a couple of days and finally arrive at Mror Holds. The men get you to help prepare the cargo boxes for unloading. "Get that box and take it to land."

The Dwarf takes the 5 platinum and hands it to Gyro. "I still say the Goblin cheated. I guess that is the type of enginuity that we need on our side though. Let's go meet them."
The dwarf leads Gyro down to the pit to meet Arcavic and Chitiin. "Congratulations men! What an incredible fight. I am rarely surprised. I was today." He pauses and then continues. "This is Gyro. He is our best caravan guard. He will accompany you two to Korth. The caravan leaves in the morning. Please feel free to stay in the Tasty Troll Tavern tonight. Drinks, lodging, and food are on me!"
He leaves you to meet.

The Minister frowns and then whispers. "No one zaid anything about a Princess. I said courtier. No lions. zis vill be a zecret mission. Zat iz vhy vee are disguising the courtier az a Priestess." She points out Olyvvar again. "Please speak vith him and plan to leave on Zol. And please keep thiz between zee three of us." With that, she turns and walks away.
Harika sees Olyvvar with a beautiful courtier on each arm. He is working the crowd.

"Good to see we have language diversity. I can only speak basic language and that of my creators. As mentioned, my name is Gyro. Good to meet the two of you. It was indeed a most interesting fight."

"It was interesting enough, I suppose, albeit accidentally as far as I am concerned. There are more effective measures to test new guards than a mere pit fight if you ask me." For a brief second, you can just barely see a flash of annoyance, and a hint of something more, cross Arcavic's impassive expression before fading just as quickly as it appeared. "Food sounds good. On our way there, you can fill us in on any special details we need to be aware of for this job."

Harika ir'Thul |
"Of course, Lady. You may rely on my discretion." She looks over at the actor working the crowd and frowns. "It is not the question of my silence that you need worry about."
Olyvvar Merriman |
While playing the crowd and appearing to fully enjoy himself with the attractive ladies on each arm, Olyvvar keeps a surrepticious eye on Lady Moranna and notes each person with whom she meets.
At some point during the evening, the bard also takes the opportunity to present himself to the king. Bowing low, he waits to be acknowledged. Your Grace, he begins. I apologize for leaving your presence earlier, but I was summoned by your minister. Please allow me to elucidate how pleased I am that your august personage attended my humble performance. I do sincerely hope it was pleasing to the crown and lifted the spirits.

The King smiles at the bard. The courtiers do not know how to act. "Ah Yes...It vas very pleasing. A breath of fresh air compared to vhat I am used to." He holds up his wine to toast you. "Thank you for helping me vith my situation. Take care of the Priestess over there as vell." He motions to Rika. "I vill leave you to enjoy the night."
OH...MY...GODS! YOU...KNOW...THE KING?!" The lady on your right yells out making a scene. The one on you left is more worried about Rika. "Who is she anyway? The King has been staring at her all night. She isn't that special for the Gods' sake."
Rika sees the King point in her direction while he is talking to Olyvvar.
GM Mason |
You don't see anything special. Just a bunch of men working. The boat is docked and there are three warehouses and a caravan being loaded. It appears to be mass chaos. Dwarves screaming trying to get supplies to the right spot.
Harika ir'Thul |
I'll point out that with her high Charisma, Rika is almost certainly better looking than either of Olyvar's hangers-on. And if he asks around, she comes from a noble family as old if not older than the king's. Odds are it's much more highly respected than any random noblewoman's.
GM Mason |
"Over there." He points to the side of a building. "Hurry up. It is time to get back on board the boat." The man jogs off back toward the boat.
GM Mason |
Arcavic, Chetiin, and Gyro: I will update you guys tonight! Almost time to get you guys heading to Korth to meet the Playwright and the Priestess!
Olyvvar Merriman |
Olyvvar bows again as he removes himself from the presence of the king. He notes that the king was aware of his "mission," and is immediately grateful he hadn't attempted to angle for a prolonged engagement for his show by leave of the king. Such a ploy no doubt would have been seen through and drawn unwanted scrutiny upon him.
He was, for the time being, stuck in this task. Not quite the engagement he had hoped for, but one that might present opportunities. At the very least, it might serve as inspiration for a new play: a young, fetching princess going into hiding disguised. At least it was a start.
Bringing himself back to the present, Olyvvar follows the stare of the woman on his arm and observes the priestess toward whom the king had gestured earlier. Meeting her eyes, he gives her a charming smile and bows not heeding the effect it may have on his entourage. She does appear to be a priestess, he answers the question of the one on his left, not taking his eyes off the noblewoman-turned-priestess.
Ladies, he starts, finally returning his attention to them. I have decided that I shall practice my singing this evening. Please find a small but suitable room with decent accoustics and you shall be in for a treat.
Hoping that will distract the ladies and prevent them from making a further scene, he waits for them to be out of sight. Then he moves through the crowd to meet the priestess.
GM Mason |
The three of you make it to the Tavern. Shortly thereafter, The dwarf from earlier arrives. "Good job guys. I hope you have made yourself comfortable. Tabitha! Bring these gentlemen some fine Dwarven ale and stew!" He sits at the table with you. "We have a caravan leaving in the morning. The first stop will be Korth. When you arrive, you will be picking up a couple Priestesses of Vol. They are to be escorted to Wroat where they will meet with some damn noble. Their arrival is of the utmost importance. It means a lot of money for me and my investors."
Tabitha shows up with the ale. "Thanks honey! Any questions?"
GM Mason |
The two ladies go running off to find a suitable room. Olyvvar and Rika are left to themselves.
Rika is 1,000x classier and more attractive that the two courtiers. They appear shallow and flighty to the Playwright. They were obviously jealous of the Priestess. You two are up!
Gyro Linebreaker |
"As always. I think. Unless it is way more above our paygrade."
The construct laughs

Harika ir'Thul |
Harika responds to Olyvar's charming smile from across the room with a minute nod that might very well have been missed so far away. Given the fact that she was someone who only needed to give the former regent a deep nod in place of a bow, even that was a generous acknowledgement. She does not smile back.
When Olyvar turns to his hangers-on, Harika goes back to mingling with her fellow nobles. At the moment she is more of a representative for the ir'Thuls than a priestess, and her aloof, almost haughty manner to even other nobility speaks to her family's ancient lineage and continuing importance.

Olyvvar Merriman |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Bowing with a flourish of his hat and cape, Olyvvar introduces himself to the standoffish noble. Olyvvar Merriman: actor, poet, playwright, at your service, he announces after standing back up straight.
I have been tasked with the most noble pursuit of accompanying you on your upcoming journey, and lending my humble skills to aid in your safety. Far be it from me to imply that one such as yourself would even need safekeeping in the first place, but the king has decreed it, and alas, it must therefore be. I sincerely hope such employment would not put a damper upon our burgeoning relationship?
There is a level of directness in Olyvvar's mannerisms as he addresses Harika ir'Thul. Despite his flowery prose, he does not presume that she would be impressed by eloquence alone.

"Ready to hit the high seas? Looks like we are heading back to Sarlona afterall!"
The ship prepares to set sail.
GM Mason |
"I don't know. The usual suspects I guess...bandits, Magebred animals, goblinoids...no offense. You know them royal types...always worried about some conspiracy!" He takes another chug from his ale. "I guess that is it then?" He gets up before you can answer. "See you gentlemen in the morning. We have some supplies coming from the coast tonight. We'll load the caravan at sunrise and then you gentlemen are off to Korth!"
You spend the evening preparing for the trip. When you wake up, breakfast is ready. You eat and head to the caravan. They are loading the gear. There appears to be four covered wagons and about five civilians traveling in a fifth coach wagon. You are standing in front of the wagons. The coach driver walks up to you three. "So what's the plan gents?"
Rhorn the Renegade |
If the Captain is reneging on his promise to not go back to Sarlona then it is time for me to take matters into my own hands...
Indeed but... As Rhorn speaks a sound comes forth from the water, like the sound of a banshee screaming but more localized... As the dwarf turn his head back Rhorn makes like a ghost and hides...

Are there other guard around or just us three?
The drow just sighs a bit as he shakes his head, "Neither of you have done this much, have you? Let me go a couple of common signals that we can use quickly. I can show you more later when we get break on the road. A few basics though will be enough for our good knife thrower here to scout ahead about 50' or so ahead of the group and myself to serve as a rear guard trailing behind at about the same distance."
Gyro Linebreaker |
"I am experienced protector. But due to my size and field of expertise, I struggle on the finer details" he laughs as he waits for the explination the drow suggested

Arcavic rides just a bit ahead to scout the trail. Chetiin and Gyro rid up front on the coach with the Dwarven driver. Three other human guards ride horses near the end of the caravan. The first day of the trip is uneventful. Arcavic finds a suitable place to camp.
MAP is up. Let me know what the watch order is and where you want to be on the map.
GM Mason |
The guard looks down into the water. Rhorn is able to sneak away from the ship without being detected. You see them finishing the packing on the caravan. You know that you can either stow away on the caravan or be seen.
Give me another stealth check if you choose to stow away. I was beginning to wonder if you were going to board the ship and sail to oblivion ;)
