Ansel spends some time inspecting the statues and making notes. This is the third level that has had a form of lizard or snake folk statue. He starts analyzing what he remembers of the differences in construction and cultural aspects. A theory begins to develop in his writings of the Spire's ancient unified purpose with regards to these creatures.

Robin opens the door...
This vast chamber glows with green light that seems to emanate from the stone itself. Along both sides of the chamber are emerald pools, above which loom gigantic serpent statues, their fanged maws pouring rivulets of green liquid into the pools below. On the far end is a glorious serpent statue plated with green metal scales, reaching nearly to the high ceiling. This statue is missing its fangs.
In the center of its body is a glowing green emerald the size of a fist, held in place by brackets of dark metal.

In front of the statue are two mutant Serpentfolk with two heads... and multiple images of them. At their feet lie an Adamantine Greatsword.

Agriver listens quietly while the evil serpent creature tries to strike a bargain. His chains rattle as he crosses his arms in front of his broad chest.

I would have thought they would be here by now. I have heard of the tracking prowess of rangers and druids... perhaps the society sent us bad ones?

He checks the heft of the weapon, taking a few swings. 'Not bad, but a little over the top. Just like Aggie.'

He then walks over to the corpse of the wizard. "Too bad we can't make you talk any more." He looks to Ansel,. "You got any magics that can make this corpse tell us where Aggie is?"

Getting a negative response, he kicks the corpse of the serpentfolk in the face. "He better still be alive, or I will bring you back. We killed you to fast the first time."

Robin finds a +2 dagger, a necklace of adaptation, some topax gems and an unholy symbol.

Ansel examines the room and becomes mildly worried. This is a grand temple to Ydersius. The serpentfolk is wearing one of his unholy symbols. the detect magic spell discovers an Unhallow spell on the alter.

The main statue is missing two of its fangs. Ansel's sculpture knowledge recognized that the party has already found one of the stone fangs on the previous level.

25 feet up the statue, in the serpent's mouth appears to be a giant Emerald.

New Quest: When they find the giant gemstone, the PCs gain
the Green Gem quest.

The party opens the door...
This large chamber has a viewing gallery on the west end and a dirt-floored pit on the east end, with manacles attached to the wall. Both ends have doors leading south, but the door in the pit has no handle or keyhole.

Agriver's armor and other equipment are on the table. Chained to the walls in the pit are two humans, an exhausted and drowsy looking Agriver, and a filthy ragged woman who appears to have been tortured. As you enter.. She looks up and calls,“Help us, please! The serpentfolk are going to kill us!”

6 dire rats scurry around the floor of the pit.

With that the paladin slumps again and his face relaxes.
