GM Kamro |
Derro will saves against Hideous Laughter
Derro 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Derro 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Derro will saves against Color Spray
Derro 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Derro 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
The nearest derro takes the brunt of both spells with no effect. His compatriot isn't so lucky, first falling to the ground in hysterical laughter, and then being blasted by the wave of scintillating hues, until he can do nothing but lie on his back, giggling at the pretty colors flashing before his eyes.
Blind and stunned for: 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds, then stunned for 1.
Searok Ironbeard |
Well I can hit them in the nose! Searok says as he rushes forth with his hammer.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (8, 3) + 6 = 17
Shaeda Stormborn |
Shaeda will move forward and attempt to disarm the non-laughing opponent...
Whip Hit: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
She is now positioned to Bodyguard Searok
GM Kamro |
The derro swings at Shaeda in response to her disarm attempt.
Aklys: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 241d6 ⇒ 6
It hits her, but though the blow is distracting she still follows through with her strike and his weapon, an odd sort of club with a hook on one end and a length of rope on the other, is dashed to the floor.
The creature yelps something in his odd language that is almost certainly a curse word, and backs away, unslinging a crossbow from his back in the process and loosing a bolt at Searok.
Repeating Light Crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 181d6 ⇒ 1
Due to the blood streaming down his face from Searok's hammer blow, the aim is off-center, and the dwarf is barely grazed.
The other derro can do no more than titter to itself on the floor, oblivious to everything going on around it.
Shaeda Stormborn |
Query? He was flat footed right? Does he have combat reflexes? I knew it was a gamble that he would, and I’ll take the AOO, I just want to make sure.
Makall |
Makall sweeps his right arm in an upward arc as he silently mouths the word, "Vertham!" Immediately two cyan missiles fly from the arc at the standing derro.
Magic Missle: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 = 5
Searok Ironbeard |
Sorry about that! Let's see if we can't bring down that derro!
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Ohh! Not sure if that will do it!
Shaeda Stormborn |
Shaeda slides to her left and attempts to remove the crossbow from their opponent’s hands...
Whip Hit: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
She is now positioned to Bodyguard everyone.
GM Kamro |
Shaeda successfully knocks the crossbow away from the derro.
Now unarmed, and with seemingly the only exit to the room blocked by the party, the derro panics and flees the fight, cowering as his does so. Oddly, he runs over to a featureless section of wall, rather than as far away as he could get.
The other derro is still incapacitated.
Taking the withdraw action to avoid AOOs, but since that's a full round action he can't do whatever he's planning with that wall.
Emma's up.
Shaeda Stormborn |
Shaeda moves forward and attempts to trip the one they have been targeting...
Whip Hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
”That other one isn’t staying frozen forever,” Shaeda reminds the others.
GM Kamro |
Shaeda's whip wraps around the derro's ankle, and she yanks it out from under him. As he falls he lands against the section of wall he was so interested in, and it swings aside, revealing a dark tunnel beyond.
Still desperate to flee, the creature kicks off the whip and tries to scramble into this tunnel.
Knocked prone, gets up on its turn and will flee down the tunnel if allowed, but getting up will provoke from Shaeda if she wants to prevent it.
GM Kamro |
Emma sprints down the tunnel and grabs hold of the struggling derro before it can make it all the way through. She's in for a bit of a shock however, as she can now see what the mad being was trying to get to. Worse, she can smell it.
The majority of this room contains a nasty looking stretch of mud - a partially collapsed sinkhole - kept damp by rivulets of water seeping from the walls. A patch of solid ground extends into the mud to form an island on which is heaped a reeking pile of body parts.
The pile is not unattended. A vile looking creature the size of a bear has its back to Emma...at least that's probably its back, judging from what little of its anatomy makes sense. Three legs support a round body, and three tentacles are busy selecting choice parts from the pile and shoving them into a maw so big that it can be glimpsed even with the beast facing the other way. The smell of the creature, like sauerkraut left rotting in the sun, is so eye-stingingly foul that it actually overpowers the corpses.
Beat the derro's CMD by an impressive 7, so I'll say that by chance you threw a hand over his mouth and prevented him from calling out to the monster.
Please make a perception check. If you have Knowledge (Dungeoneering), you can also roll to identify the creature.
Emma Holt |
Nope but next level I put a rank in it! Can I still make a check cause it is a class skill? Also the player has a thought on what it is and I am kinda excited since I have never fought one
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Slamming a hand over the derro's mouth and immediately starting to back up. Glancing back and shaking her head.
Makall |
perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
GM Kamro |
After Emma grabs the derro it's Makall and then Searok. Neither of you posted actions other than you're skill checks, and neither can see into the room after the tunnel from where you're standing. So please post what you're doing, and if it brings you close enough to see the room/creature I'll post the results of your checks.
Makall |
Makall watches as Emma runs down the hall knowing better than to let her go off alone.
Makall hastens down the hall after Emma
GM Kamro |
Taking in the horror of the room, Makall can't help but notice two interesting details. One is that despite being a messy eater, the monster apparently limits its consumption to the organic bits - there is a small pile of refuse in the corner it has tossed away as a person might chicken bones, and among it are a few items that look interesting and possibly valuable.
The second thing he notices is that among the bodies he can see a leg covered in Shoanti tattoos, which match the tribal markings you were told to look out for down here.
Shaeda Stormborn |
Shaeda steps to the prone and laughing derro, drawing her dagger. She will ready to attack the derro should he do anything other than surrender when the spell ends.
GM Kamro |
oops, must have missed that.
Shaeda has the laughing derro at knifepoint, it has one round left before recovering.
Searok recognizes the beast as a otyugh, a disgusting and dangerous creature that thrives in the foulest of environs, like sewers and swamps. It's massive maw is so filthy that even if its bite doesn't kill you, you may contract horrible diseases.
The unarmed but upright derro struggles to break free from Emma's grasp.
CMB: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
It is unsuccessful, however, and remains held.
Back to Emma. The otyugh is engrossed (emphasis on gross) in its meal, and hasn't noticed anyone yet, but if someone goes any further into the room they'll need a stealth check.
Searok Ironbeard |
Searok looks at the creature then back to Emma then back to the creature. He then mouths to Emma, Are you sure?
oops, must have missed that.
No Problem! I DM several games here on the boards and I am always missing things!
GM Kamro |
Okay, back out of the tunnel, got one derro captured (I suppose I should make you roll to drag him, but with both Makall and Searok there to help I can just rule you get him. If 3 medium people can't drag around 1 small, what's the world coming to), the other is about to come to his senses, and the monster in the next room hasn't been alerted to your presence. Combat is effectively over for the time being, so lets drop out of rounds for now, and everyone can act as they please.
The derro lying in hysterics on the floor suddenly stops laughing, his vision clears, and he realizes that his compatriot has been disarmed and captured, and there are four armed people looming over him, one with a knife at the ready. He slowly raises his hands in surrender.
Shaeda Stormborn |
Shaeda makes the universal signs for “no talking” and “or I will slit your throat” to the two derro, and she hands a length of rope to Searok, and mimes that he should tie the critters up with it.
Makall |
We will need to go in there. I believe I saw the remains of the Shoanti grandson in it's pile of discarded goods. Let us figure what to do with these two dwarves and then figure upon a plan to lure the creature away from its lair."
