The western door is untrapped. Ziranu hears a sort of creaking sound beyond it, and the clink of chains. He also is certain he can detect the smell of blood and rotting flesh beyond.

"Standard positions," Shaeda whispers.

Once everyone is in position (which I will reposition us in a second), Searok will open the door.


This large chamber smells of seasoned wood and blood. It contains a long table with four wooden chairs on one side and a single stool on the other. Torture implements, including a rack, an iron maiden, and a complex pulley machine, are arranged near the walls, together with a wide range of crafty restraining devices.

Against the far wall is a vision of horror. It looks like a large fiendish statue, and wouldn't be pleasant to gaze upon at the best of times. But it too is an instrument of torture and death; a human body is pinned to it like a butterfly in a collection, crucified with an expression of anguish still on his face. Although he has suffered horrible abuse before perishing, the features of the victim are still familiar. This pour soul was once Ishani Dhatri, a priest of Abadar who you encountered during the plague on the city, and who helped Cressida in raiding the Hospice that was secretly engineering the disease. It seems Ileosa eventually had him punished for his minor role in spoiling her plans.

The statue he's on doesn't seem tot hink it's been the cause of enough suffering, and it lurches to life at your presence, taking its late and unfortunate passenger with it.

Beyond that, Thurrios and Shaeda are waiting to get a report on the creature from Tronar.


@Tronar Oh, you're invisible? In that case no, it couldn't see you. So I guess redirect that attack to Ziranu.

Tronar identifies this as a horrific device he's only heard rumors of, an Akaruzug. Only the most vile and corrupt beings would construct one. It's a torture device that absorbs the soul of the victim crucified upon it at the moment of their death to animate it, and can summon it forth as a Spiritual Ally spell.

The statue radiates a constant Unhallow spell, is resistant to all physical damage that isn't both Bludgeoning and Good (good thing Serithial can change forms), and can periodically unleash a burst of dangerous soul energy that drains those around it to heal itself.

The one upshot is that it is bound to the soul of the body pinned to it. If that can be removed, the statue will deactivate shortly thereafter. Doing so is no easy task though, as the creature will hold on tightly.

IE if you could successfully grapple and pin the statue, you could yank the body off, and it would soon "die". Alternate methods of removing it might work if they are sufficiently clever.

Assuming all of that is relayed from Tronar, Thurrios says "Look, I can possibly hold the thing down for a little bit, but I doubt even Searok can pull the dead guy off of it!"

She will say to Searok, "I'll be right back to you, make your weapon blunt and go kick that thing's ass!"

She moves to Ziranu and casts align weapon and touches his quivers of blunt arrows (no jokes please) to make them good! She then says "Now, you too kick that thing's ass!"

@gm would Tronar know if a Dim Door would work on the crucified form being a separate entity from the construct? i.e. Tronar touch the body and dim doors away as a way to remove it from the construct?

"This is a Akaruzug. an abominable construct of the most foul magic. To damage it properly, one must use good bludgeoning weapons, and it has a aura about itself that may suck the life out of the living to heal itself. I suggest we do not all get close to it. If we can get the body attached to the front away from it, then it will return to harmlessness within a few seconds. let me think about that."


Dimension Door by itself wouldn't do the trick, as the body is physically nailed to the statue. Same reason you can't just Dim Door away someone's armor, it's not "unattended". But if you did something like a Disable Device check (which would normally provoke AOOs, though you are currently invisible so might get away with it) I could rule that you manage to pry the nails loose and then teleport away with the body.

Back to Ziranu, since he delayed until Shaeda went.

Tell you what, I'd let you try it using the Called Shots optional rules. That makes for small, specific targets, so anything else the other players could do to give you a bonus or lower the enemy's AC would make it more likely to work.
