"We got a problem with water. We got nuthin here to cook our water in. I can pray for blessins on water fer all of us ...but we need somethin' more than three skins to carry it. That ain't enough. I think the water 'ere is good though.
We can look for gourds or coconuts in the forest...or maybe there's somethin' in the ship. "

Survival to check water quality? 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

In short order a batch of 10 sea scorpion kebabs are roasted and ready on handy sticks for all to eat.

"So. Let's go look at that boat!"

Male Human Paladin/1

Darius returns the snide comment with a smile and starts walking towards the wreck.

Master

Aerys:
Jask looks up at you from where he's uncomfortably seated. He shakes his head, muttering. "Not like you gonna believe me anyway. Nobody did de firs time. Jus landed me in a heap a trouble." At this, he shrugs his shoulders, indicating the manacles around his wrists. The gesture is awkward, since his hands are manacled behind his back. He seems to honestly think you won't believe him even if he told you. He doesn't seem bitter about that fact, but he does seem angry about being imprisoned in general, as if he didn't deserve it.

Varrick:
The gnome just looks at you, eying your long coat and your hat. "Well, it's not like we're going to leave. We're probably stuck on the Shiv. Smuggler's Shiv, you know? Most dangerous part of Desperation Bay. All the ships that pass by here wreck, and they say it's cursed. One of the groups that wrecked here was an old group of soldiers from Cheliax. They say that when they wrecked here, they went cannibal and that they eat anybody who lands here with them, like us." With that, he goes back to munching on his sea-scorpion kabob, and ignores you.

The sea-scorpion meat is rather tangy and tough, but good. Your fellow passengers, excepting Ishirou, grunt a thanks for the food, although Jask Derindi has a difficult time eating it since his hands are manacled behind his back. Ishirou offers to feed it to him, though, and thanks z'Graggen for cooking.

z'Graggen:
The water in the stream is drinkable enough, and you do have the ability to purify up to 7.5 gallons of water with your tankard.

To the boat:
Those of you who choose to head to the boat make it to the end of the beach after a walk of perhaps two minutes. The Jenivere is approximately 150 feet from you. It is wedged between the cliff that meets the edge of the beach and a rock covered with bird droppings. Gulls circle over it, and it lists noticeably. It appears that the majority of the bow is missing, with the stern being the most intact portion of the vessel. The tide is low at present, revealing a potential path over the rocks, although much of it is soaked and covered in algae. It looks like you might be able to walk out to the ship, although it will be tricky going.

Half Elven Witch/1

With the dwarf having taken the chore of cooking for the group, and the others salvaging the ship, Alexi decided to start erecting shelter some little way into the forest. Nimrod had reported that something was flying towards the wreck, and Alexi preferred shelter from sun and rain, anyway.

Male Human Paladin/1

If Darius heads out towards the boat, what roll are you going to want?

Master

Darius: I'm going to want an Acrobatics check. Balance for slippery surfaces, and all. One check will likely be fine.

Alexi: Some kind of Survival check to gather materials and erect some form of shelter, if you could.

Half Elven Witch/1

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Aerys joins in on the march to the ship
acrobatics check
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

oops - forgot my dex damage - actual roll would be 5:)

Using the spear to help balance, the dwarf springs along after
Aeris and Darius.

Acrobatics 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Male Human Paladin/1

Acrobatics-1d20 ⇒ 13

Darius plods his way, a smile never leaving his face

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

As the small group walks along, Aerys comments to his companions."Jask Derindi wasn't overly forthcoming about why he was being held a prisoner on the Jenivere. But he struck me as honestly feeling he had been wronged." He looks at Darius. "Perhaps being a man more spiritually minded, you could talk to him as well? I must admit, I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of someone left in shackles and defenseless in these circumstances."

Aerys probably blows his acrobatics check at this point and plummets into the surf :)

Master

Alexi:
Over the course of several hours, you manage to locate a suitable site a short way away from where you woke up on the edge of the beach and assemble several rough shelters using branches and fronds. The task is made very difficult by the lack of proper tools, but with some help from Nimrod and Ahti, you find things you can use in their place. Ishirou offers some assistance and carries things for you to help out, although he spends more time looking after the other castaways.

The Ship:
[i]As you walk along toward the ship, the rocks are slippery. You see a number of tidal pools and crustaceans among the rocks. After his comment about Jask, Aerys promptly slips and plunges into a nearby tidal pool. It seems he stepped on a crab that was standing on a chunk of seaweed. After helping him out of the tidal pool, you continue on to the ship. As you get closer to the tidal pool, you can see more the extent of the damage. It seems that only the upper deck, the captain's cabin, and part of the mid-deck survive, although all are skewed at a roughly 40º angle. Attached to a spar is a short rope leading to what remains of the life boat: a piece of its fractured bow. You hear a violent racket coming from somewhere on the lower part of the remainder of the ship. As you draw nearer, you reach a ledge about 5 feet above the main deck.

Half Elven Witch/1

Having completed the shelter for the evening, Alexi sets out to salvage whatever might be useful from the sea scorpions that were fought earlier. Bits of flesh for Nimrod and Ahti, venom to use or trade, and especially the stingers. Alexi had found long ago that properly dried stingers made perfectly serviceable ear rings.

After looking over the other passengers for injury or illness, Alexi quietly announces, "This one is leaving to seek out what gifts the jungle has to offer and should return prior to nightfall."

Various Skill Rolls:

Belated heal check to treat Aerys' sting: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Alchemy Check to salvage poison from the sea scorpion's glands: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Survival Check to forage for nearby food, water, or other potentially useful supplies: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Listening carefully, z'Graggen tries to ascertain what the racket is.

Is there splashing, are their voices? Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

He whispers:
"'Tis steep as a mountain-crag on board this blasted ship. We got no rope to belay ourselves. This one to the jolly boat 'ere looks a bit to short don't it? I guess we'll need it anyhow, eh?"

How long is the rope to the boat? How hard does it look to retreive it?

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Aerys observes the wreckage critically, tilting his head to mirror the ship's canted deck. He notes with dry humor
"As I'm sure you've noted my cat-like grace and reflexes, I can't see how this could possibly be a problem." This provokes an unblinking glare from Nyx - the sort of look only possible from a wet and angry ferret.

Noting the piece of life boat dangling from the rope, he notes"So it would appear we were NOT dropped off at the beach by the Jenivere's crew? Or at least, not with the lifeboat?"

He'll try a shot at a perception check as well - tho a 21 is hard to beat :)
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Male Human Paladin/1

At the sounds coming from inside the ship, Darius hefts his mace, all mirth disappearing.

Master

The Ship:
The noise is a scratching, scrabbling sound. It's almost like an animal or two worrying at a piece of wood with claws. The boat seems to have been tied up at the side of the ship, as if somebody was using it. Normally, it would have been stored on deck, but here it seems as if somebody was using it and had come back to the ship.

The piece of rope isn't very long, perhaps 10 feet. Retrieving it will require going down onto the ship. And perhaps I exaggerated slightly. Was half-asleep when I wrote that. The angle is more like 25º. Enough to make going difficult, but not quite as drastic as it was.

Alexi:
One thing to keep in mind regarding the Heal check. You can double his natural healing speed, but that still requires him to be stationary and rest. Building camp will take a total of six hours or so, and then you can go searching for food. When that happens, the others should be back from the ship. You do manage to recover all three poison sacks, though. You now have three doses of Ochre Eurypterid Poison. Stats as follows:
Poison (Ex) injury; save Fort DC 10; frequency 1/round for
4 rounds; effect 1 Dex; cure 1 save.

Male Half-Orc Alchemist 1

Varrick's eyebrows arch. "So I guess we should build some defenses. I certainly have no interest in dying, and being eaten would only make it worse."

He continues talking as he makes a short trip up the beach to look for materials to build such a defense. "Tell you what Jask, we are all stuck here for a while, and, believe you or not, we have a long time to be here, and will run out of things to talk about sooner or later. Besides, if at all possible, I'd like to let you out. Plus, I think, given the circumstances, we are going to have to trust each other more than we might otherwise."

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

is it an acrobatics check to jump from the ledge onto what's left of the main deck?

Aerys frowns at the scratching sound. To z'Graggen "My mace is yours if you feel you might be dealing with this new acquaintance up close."

Master

The Ship:
Let's call it a DC 7 to not slip when you jump down. Proceed as you will.

Male Human Cleric-2

Varrick:
At the mention of possibly letting me out, my head comes up. "You'd do dat for me? Hm. I s'pose dere's no harm in tellin' de story. Id'll help pass de time."

"I useta work for de Sargavan government. I did some filing, some research, and errands. As time went on, I found signs of illegal deals between de higher ups and several of de Free Captains of de Shackles. I confronted my superior, but de bastard framed me for de deals."

"What could I do? I ran. I ran somewhere dey shouldna found me. I stayed in Corentyn for ten years as a scribe. Den dey caught up to me. I was clapped in these irons, and dey charged Cap'n Kovack to take me back to Sargava for punishment. But I'm innocent of de crime. Not much of a story, but it's why I'm here in dese irons."

With my story told, I settle back into meditations.

Male Half-Orc Alchemist 1

Varrick thinks it over for a bit, before asking the others their opinions. "His story seems to have the smell of truth. If he did something truly horrible, why keep him alive. And if he did what they said or something else like that, then being banished is not a bit worse than being marooned, so he is punished anyhow. Anyone mind if I cut him loose"

Sense motive 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4. What should I roll to look for supplies to set traps or rig some sort of fence system to keep out cannibals?

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Aerys unlimbers his crossbow and carefully loads it.
"If you like, I can provide cover with either crossbow or spell if you two would like to make the jump onto the deck. And then perhaps catch me as I plummet past you when I jump..."

Male Human Paladin/1

Darius secures his mace, then jumps for it.

acrobatics-1d20 ⇒ 9

"Thank ye, Aerys. I think I'll take the spear fer now. Unless ye think it'd be better to keep the spear. Up to you. I can't carry 'em both, eh."

z"Graggen keeps the spear - unless Aeris chooses otherwise - and makes the leap.

Acrobatics 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

He springs athletically like a monkey and lands like a feather! Keep 'em rollin' like that!

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Seeing his comrades make the leap, Aerys takes a deep breath and jumps

Acrobatics 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

I'll consider that overwhelmingly adequate. :)

Master

Varrick:
You'd make a Survival check to try and find supplies. You trust his story completely.

At the suggestion of letting the prisoner free, Jask again perks up. Ishirou looks up, nods his assent, and continues to help Alexi with building shelters. The Gnome sputters indignantly, spouting something about how he's a dangerous criminal and he must have done something to deserve his fate. Aerys Mavato shrugs, and doesn't seem to care much. Sasha shoots a glare at the Gnome, then says she thinks the man should be free to do as he pleases.

The Ship:
z'Graggen lands very gracefully, and Aerys lands off-kilter but manages to retain his balance. Darius jumps, and lands adequately well for a man unencumbered, but his armor throws him off and he slams into the deck. At the clangor, the scrabbling noises cease.

To explain that: Your armor provides you with an armor check penalty of -4, and your shield adds a further -2 to that, Darius. That all applies on Acrobatics checks, and all Dex- and Str-based skill checks. Hence, your actual result comes out to a 3. Make a Reflex save, if you will.

Everybody make note of when you are carrying a Medium/Heavy load and when you are wearing Medium/Heavy armor. Pay especial attention to your encumbrance level. Such things affect your Dex- and Str-based skill checks, as well as your speed.

Male Half-Orc Alchemist 1

Seeing little serious debate and no knowledge that makes a clear case for guilt, Varrick retrieves his ax and slides the blade across the bindings.

"I think a small fence might be the best defense we can muster. Want to help me gather stakes? And maybe a few more pieces of wood to set up a work area. I would like to get working as soon as possible, if we are lucky I can create a few potions that might help us get around in the water. Oh and maybe you should make a club, just in case things get hairy."

Survival check 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7

Male Human Paladin/1

Do I minus that off my reflex as well?

Reflex- 1d20 ⇒ 18

Master

Darius:
No, you don't. Your Reflex save is how fast you can react, not necessarily how agile you are or strong/weighted.

Darius slips on impact, but manages to grab a piece of the railing, arresting his slight slide.

Varrick:
As a note, he's manacled. Sliding the axe-blade across them isn't going to do much unless you actively try and chop them in half.

None of the others seems particularly eager to help you with gathering anything. As you search, you manage to find a number of branches that might serve as boundary markers, but nothing that looks like it will make a great palisade or work-station.

Male Half-Orc Alchemist 1

Manacles:

My bad, I thought it was ropes. I try to open the lock, I take 20 on disable device, I get DC 25.

Master

Varrick:
[ooc]Your attempt to open the manacles is not successful. Perhaps if you could find a key or some appropriate tools...[ooc]

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Despite the cessation of sounds from below, Aerys keeps his crossbow aimed at the hatch that leads below decks. He shrugs his off his backpack and lowers it to the deck.
"I've always been a bad-news-first sort of person. Perhaps we should check out the source of those sounds before we proceed much further? If the two of you would like, one of you could open the hatch while I use one of my remaining spells to make the deck before it slippery - with the slanted deck we might get lucky and whatever it is will simply slide away. Or if you prefer, we can just engage it directly. We may wish to let on deck in either case, as we might wind up facing it one at a time on steps leading down."

Aerys would then either ready an action to cast grease on the deck in front of the hatch for the moment whoever opens the hatch is clear if that is what is decided, or keep his crossbow aimed at the hatch if we decide just to open it & see what happens.

Z'Graggen glances up at the rigging and around the deck of the ship. Is there anything of note above decks? Are there sails? Ropes? Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 if necessary

Then z'Graggen nods at Aerys and grunts quietly in in approval - signaling with his hand to Darius that he should move to open the hatch. The dwarf warily pads up to the hatch himself - the spear braced and directed towards it, ready to defend against anything that might emerge.

Male Human Paladin/1

Darius steps to the hatch and when he is sure that his companions are ready, he opens the hatch.

I want to do this so, if possible, the hatch is somewhat blocking Darius.

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Aerys would cast Grease the second Darius is clear - DC 15 reflex save - hopefully higher for the slanted deck?

A bead of sweat on z'Graggen's brow dries up in the see breeze. A fly buzzes by. Gulls in the distance. Spear poised.

Master

Sorry for the lateness. Just now getting to this. My world got a lot smaller than I like it to be, and I had to make it bigger again.

z'Graggen:
You notice there isn't much left of the ship's rigging, sails, or masts. It seems like it was all shattered against a rock or something as the ship crashed.

The hatch comes open, partially blocking Darius from what lays behind it. Aerys whispers a few words, and the deck in front of the hatch is coated with a slimy substance. For a few long minutes, nothing happens. Then, a scuttling sound comes nearer to the hatchway. Silence. Then the scuttling sound retreats, and seems to continue its earlier activity of worrying at wood.

"Slick move, greaser boy. Sounds like a just a critter to me" whispers the Dwarf harshly "Now ye just messed up our way through the hatch!"

z'Graggen gingerly inches his way to the hatch. If he can stick his head in to look in without slipping in the grease...he'll try.

Acrobatics (if necessary) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Aerys frowned at the open hatch. "Obviously, we failed to make the creature aware of it's role in our plans. The mess should dissapate in a minute..."

Master

z'Graggen manages to make his way up to the hatch, and as he does, the grease slowly fades away. The scrabbling noises continue.

z'Graggen:
Through the hatch, you see another one of the creatures that attacked you on the beach. It's frantically scratching at a door, as if trying to get in. A dark fluid is seeping from under the door.

"We got ourselves another kebab down there makin some noise tryin to get in through a door." whispers the dwarf . "I think I seen some blood or somethin' drippin from under that door too. I'm goin' down. Whaddya say."

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Aerys quietly joins the dwarf to look down the hatchway "I have one more casting left to me today. If you like, I can damage it to make the kill easier."

Aerys would prepare to cast magic missle if his companions wish, or can save the spell

"Naw. Save yer greasy tricks fer later. I'll skewer the beast meself!"

Carefully lowering himself into the hold..zGraggen gets to work on his his next kebab.

Male Human Paladin/1

Darius follows the dwarf down, a smile on his face.

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

I'll just stay topside & watch our backs, crossbow loaded

Master

The Ship:
At the sound of feet hitting the deck and the clank of armor, the sea-scorpion turns, spotting you. It is roughly 30 feet from you, and the deck slants upward, granting it higher ground than you.

Initiative:
Aerys - 17
Sea-scorpion - 7
z'Graggen - 5
Darius - 4

Aerys, you do have a clear shot to the creature, approximately 45 feet away. z'Graggen, it is 30 feet in front of you. Darius, it is 35 feet in front of you. The corridor is 5 feet wide. If you want a map, I can sketch one out for you. This shouldn't take long, though.

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Seeing the creature spin around, Aerys raises his crossbow to fire off a shot before close combat begins.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 121d8 ⇒ 7

Master

The crossbow bolt shoots out, then slams into the deck about 3 inches from what passes for the thing's face.

Master

Hey. z'Graggen? Darius? Should I just run this combat for you?
