"We got a problem with water. We got nuthin here to cook our water in. I can pray for blessins on water fer all of us ...but we need somethin' more than three skins to carry it. That ain't enough. I think the water 'ere is good though.
We can look for gourds or coconuts in the forest...or maybe there's somethin' in the ship. "
Survival to check water quality? 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
In short order a batch of 10 sea scorpion kebabs are roasted and ready on handy sticks for all to eat.
"So. Let's go look at that boat!"

TheMan BehindTheCurtain |

The sea-scorpion meat is rather tangy and tough, but good. Your fellow passengers, excepting Ishirou, grunt a thanks for the food, although Jask Derindi has a difficult time eating it since his hands are manacled behind his back. Ishirou offers to feed it to him, though, and thanks z'Graggen for cooking.

Alexi Blackbough |

With the dwarf having taken the chore of cooking for the group, and the others salvaging the ship, Alexi decided to start erecting shelter some little way into the forest. Nimrod had reported that something was flying towards the wreck, and Alexi preferred shelter from sun and rain, anyway.

Aerys Trajyon |

As the small group walks along, Aerys comments to his companions."Jask Derindi wasn't overly forthcoming about why he was being held a prisoner on the Jenivere. But he struck me as honestly feeling he had been wronged." He looks at Darius. "Perhaps being a man more spiritually minded, you could talk to him as well? I must admit, I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of someone left in shackles and defenseless in these circumstances."
Aerys probably blows his acrobatics check at this point and plummets into the surf :)

Alexi Blackbough |

Having completed the shelter for the evening, Alexi sets out to salvage whatever might be useful from the sea scorpions that were fought earlier. Bits of flesh for Nimrod and Ahti, venom to use or trade, and especially the stingers. Alexi had found long ago that properly dried stingers made perfectly serviceable ear rings.
After looking over the other passengers for injury or illness, Alexi quietly announces, "This one is leaving to seek out what gifts the jungle has to offer and should return prior to nightfall."
Belated heal check to treat Aerys' sting: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Alchemy Check to salvage poison from the sea scorpion's glands: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Survival Check to forage for nearby food, water, or other potentially useful supplies: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

z'Graggen the Free |

Listening carefully, z'Graggen tries to ascertain what the racket is.
Is there splashing, are their voices? Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
He whispers:
"'Tis steep as a mountain-crag on board this blasted ship. We got no rope to belay ourselves. This one to the jolly boat 'ere looks a bit to short don't it? I guess we'll need it anyhow, eh?"
How long is the rope to the boat? How hard does it look to retreive it?

Aerys Trajyon |

Aerys observes the wreckage critically, tilting his head to mirror the ship's canted deck. He notes with dry humor
"As I'm sure you've noted my cat-like grace and reflexes, I can't see how this could possibly be a problem." This provokes an unblinking glare from Nyx - the sort of look only possible from a wet and angry ferret.
Noting the piece of life boat dangling from the rope, he notes"So it would appear we were NOT dropped off at the beach by the Jenivere's crew? Or at least, not with the lifeboat?"
He'll try a shot at a perception check as well - tho a 21 is hard to beat :)
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

TheMan BehindTheCurtain |

The piece of rope isn't very long, perhaps 10 feet. Retrieving it will require going down onto the ship. And perhaps I exaggerated slightly. Was half-asleep when I wrote that. The angle is more like 25º. Enough to make going difficult, but not quite as drastic as it was.
Poison (Ex) injury; save Fort DC 10; frequency 1/round for
4 rounds; effect 1 Dex; cure 1 save.

Varrick |

Varrick's eyebrows arch. "So I guess we should build some defenses. I certainly have no interest in dying, and being eaten would only make it worse."
He continues talking as he makes a short trip up the beach to look for materials to build such a defense. "Tell you what Jask, we are all stuck here for a while, and, believe you or not, we have a long time to be here, and will run out of things to talk about sooner or later. Besides, if at all possible, I'd like to let you out. Plus, I think, given the circumstances, we are going to have to trust each other more than we might otherwise."

Jask Derindi-Jlighter |
"I useta work for de Sargavan government. I did some filing, some research, and errands. As time went on, I found signs of illegal deals between de higher ups and several of de Free Captains of de Shackles. I confronted my superior, but de bastard framed me for de deals."
"What could I do? I ran. I ran somewhere dey shouldna found me. I stayed in Corentyn for ten years as a scribe. Den dey caught up to me. I was clapped in these irons, and dey charged Cap'n Kovack to take me back to Sargava for punishment. But I'm innocent of de crime. Not much of a story, but it's why I'm here in dese irons."
With my story told, I settle back into meditations.

Varrick |

Varrick thinks it over for a bit, before asking the others their opinions. "His story seems to have the smell of truth. If he did something truly horrible, why keep him alive. And if he did what they said or something else like that, then being banished is not a bit worse than being marooned, so he is punished anyhow. Anyone mind if I cut him loose"
Sense motive 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4. What should I roll to look for supplies to set traps or rig some sort of fence system to keep out cannibals?

z'Graggen the Free |

"Thank ye, Aerys. I think I'll take the spear fer now. Unless ye think it'd be better to keep the spear. Up to you. I can't carry 'em both, eh."
z"Graggen keeps the spear - unless Aeris chooses otherwise - and makes the leap.
Acrobatics 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
He springs athletically like a monkey and lands like a feather! Keep 'em rollin' like that!

TheMan BehindTheCurtain |

At the suggestion of letting the prisoner free, Jask again perks up. Ishirou looks up, nods his assent, and continues to help Alexi with building shelters. The Gnome sputters indignantly, spouting something about how he's a dangerous criminal and he must have done something to deserve his fate. Aerys Mavato shrugs, and doesn't seem to care much. Sasha shoots a glare at the Gnome, then says she thinks the man should be free to do as he pleases.
To explain that: Your armor provides you with an armor check penalty of -4, and your shield adds a further -2 to that, Darius. That all applies on Acrobatics checks, and all Dex- and Str-based skill checks. Hence, your actual result comes out to a 3. Make a Reflex save, if you will.
Everybody make note of when you are carrying a Medium/Heavy load and when you are wearing Medium/Heavy armor. Pay especial attention to your encumbrance level. Such things affect your Dex- and Str-based skill checks, as well as your speed.

Varrick |

Seeing little serious debate and no knowledge that makes a clear case for guilt, Varrick retrieves his ax and slides the blade across the bindings.
"I think a small fence might be the best defense we can muster. Want to help me gather stakes? And maybe a few more pieces of wood to set up a work area. I would like to get working as soon as possible, if we are lucky I can create a few potions that might help us get around in the water. Oh and maybe you should make a club, just in case things get hairy."
Survival check 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7

TheMan BehindTheCurtain |

Darius slips on impact, but manages to grab a piece of the railing, arresting his slight slide.
None of the others seems particularly eager to help you with gathering anything. As you search, you manage to find a number of branches that might serve as boundary markers, but nothing that looks like it will make a great palisade or work-station.

Aerys Trajyon |

Despite the cessation of sounds from below, Aerys keeps his crossbow aimed at the hatch that leads below decks. He shrugs his off his backpack and lowers it to the deck.
"I've always been a bad-news-first sort of person. Perhaps we should check out the source of those sounds before we proceed much further? If the two of you would like, one of you could open the hatch while I use one of my remaining spells to make the deck before it slippery - with the slanted deck we might get lucky and whatever it is will simply slide away. Or if you prefer, we can just engage it directly. We may wish to let on deck in either case, as we might wind up facing it one at a time on steps leading down."
Aerys would then either ready an action to cast grease on the deck in front of the hatch for the moment whoever opens the hatch is clear if that is what is decided, or keep his crossbow aimed at the hatch if we decide just to open it & see what happens.

z'Graggen the Free |

Z'Graggen glances up at the rigging and around the deck of the ship. Is there anything of note above decks? Are there sails? Ropes? Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 if necessary
Then z'Graggen nods at Aerys and grunts quietly in in approval - signaling with his hand to Darius that he should move to open the hatch. The dwarf warily pads up to the hatch himself - the spear braced and directed towards it, ready to defend against anything that might emerge.

TheMan BehindTheCurtain |

Sorry for the lateness. Just now getting to this. My world got a lot smaller than I like it to be, and I had to make it bigger again.
The hatch comes open, partially blocking Darius from what lays behind it. Aerys whispers a few words, and the deck in front of the hatch is coated with a slimy substance. For a few long minutes, nothing happens. Then, a scuttling sound comes nearer to the hatchway. Silence. Then the scuttling sound retreats, and seems to continue its earlier activity of worrying at wood.

z'Graggen the Free |

"Slick move, greaser boy. Sounds like a just a critter to me" whispers the Dwarf harshly "Now ye just messed up our way through the hatch!"
z'Graggen gingerly inches his way to the hatch. If he can stick his head in to look in without slipping in the grease...he'll try.
Acrobatics (if necessary) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

TheMan BehindTheCurtain |

z'Graggen manages to make his way up to the hatch, and as he does, the grease slowly fades away. The scrabbling noises continue.

Aerys, you do have a clear shot to the creature, approximately 45 feet away. z'Graggen, it is 30 feet in front of you. Darius, it is 35 feet in front of you. The corridor is 5 feet wide. If you want a map, I can sketch one out for you. This shouldn't take long, though.
