That'll cover us Kryolani, which is good. I had not realized you had so many spells to sacrifice - thank you. ;)
Also note, cold weather gear + furs is 12# of weight. It's put me right up against my weight limit and I have a decent strength. Some of you might be slowed by the weight of your gear now...
Kryolani |
Also, the cold weather rules state that the checks and rolls are for being "Unprotected" so I think step one is to find out exactly what qualifies as protection. If it's just being in a tent, then we're fine. It'll slow down exploration, and we'll need to bring more supplies in case we get snowed in somewhere though.
And of course I have prestidigitation! Prestidigitation is the best! And I can cast it to warm up non-living materiel. For an HOUR. Like, say, our gloves, so they keep our hands warm no matter what it's like outside.

The joys of being a Sorcerer, my good man! Think nothing of it!

I hate to burst your bubble but sorcerers don't learn a new 1st level spell until 3rd level, unless I'm missing something.
But prestidigitation to drink something warm sure would help. :)
Kryolani |
If we get stuck out in it, and someone starts failing their saves, I say we head back to base immediately, and also that we wait till they are low on HP before using one of the potions. The non-lethal damage will melt off again pretty quickly after it is drunk.
Kryolani |
Oh snap! You are most certainly correct! Stupid sorcerers...
Still, I could grab the 0th level spell Spark, which will make starting fires a breeze, even if the weather turns horrific.
GM Giuseppe |
So, first of all: cold is not going to be frequent. There will be full weeks of temperate weather. The idea is that the cold weather forces you to stay at Oleg's, waiting until it passes and the weather gets clement again. Trust me, almost the 80% of the days will be going to be temperate. Sometimes the weather will get cold, especially at the beginning of the adventure, but instead of worrying too much about it, you just need to plan ahead and try to be return to Oleg's as fast as possible until the bad weather goes away. There, you can use your time to craft items, build relationships with NPCs or other PCs, buy and sell gear and so on. I see no reason to worry about this. Maybe there will be a single occasion on which you will be surprised outside when the cold comes, but that would be something interesting to play, a threat somehow different from the usual monsters. But that won't happen often. Maybe once or twice throughout the module.
Roksana 'Rok' Jedynak |
Ok guys, I definitely need some time to catch up on your posts XD
I heat that, every time I go to post I hit preview and see that the point I was making has already been made!
GM Giuseppe |
OK, I thought Oleg was buying our stuff and trading it out himself? If we're having to do that, then take note - we have not made a divvy yet. Please 'give back' the 140gp I said you all received. Can't spend what we don't have. :)
Giuseppe, what is the procedure for selling gear? What's the process?
NOTE: We also have NOT purchased the wand of Cure Light Wounds (see my above post, but also we haven't sold the gear needed to buy it).
I need to be informed about what you sell and what you buy on a regular basis. You can accomplish that by posting in the Discussion Thread, listing all the things you've sold and all the things you've purchased.
I cannot just let Oleg buy your stuff automatically: what if he buys things you do not want to sell? Of course, if you post in the Discussion Thread saying: GM, we are selling all the loot from the Thorn Ford Camp to Oleg, except from the two healing potions and then use the loot sheet to calculate the income is perfectly fine. I just need notifications, otherwise I'd lose control over the game.
Serolt |
Sure thing Giuseppe. Keep in mind too that what we're going to sell is always listed as 'To Sell' on the Treasure Spreadsheet. You can always look there to see what we're planning to unload.
For now, we try to sell Oleg the following:
silver earrings (150gp), wooden music box (90gp), Crate of furs (50gp) x3, herbal liquor (20gp) x7
Handaxe, MW (306gp) x2
Dagger (2gp) x4, Short Sword (10gp) x4, Longbow (75gp) x4, Arrows (4gp total) x68
Everything else on the treasure sheet is 'cash'.
Thanks!
GM Giuseppe |
I can only give you one advice: just do not overthink about it. Act as you think your character would, knowing that being exposed to cold weather could prove deadly. If that means that your character would stay at Oleg's until the weather does not get better, well, it's perfectly fine. Probably in a day or two the weather will be good again and you'll be able to go out exploring again.
Roksana 'Rok' Jedynak |
The loot sheet that Serolt uses calculates only the things that we do wish to sell and can be easily checked for validity, so you can be sure that prices and gold splits are not calculated arbitrarily.
Obviously if you'd prefer more detailed posts of what's being sold we would have to go that route but the loot sheet should provide all the info both the party and you as GM require.

Ok, Euan! ;) Oleg can buy everything you wish to sell. Let's suppose you've done it before departing to Bokken's hut, so you've already placed your order for the wand. Thank you!
GM Giuseppe |
I just need a notification, because being not a player I do not check that sheet frequently. You could even just say: "GM, take a look at the loot sheet. We're selling everything listed as to sell". It would be enough. But I need at least that notification.
Serolt |
OK, so to clarify, Serolt is suggesting the following.
We purchase a full wand of Endure Elements to stretch our traveling. It's going to be a couple levels before we're really covered so we might as well bite the bullet and be ready now.
We also need to purchase a large tent (link) which will cost 30gp, but weigh in at a hearty 50 pounds! We could get individual tents, but they're still 20 pounds each so we might as well get the larger one.
Feels like we're going to need to travel with a pack animal no matter what. And when it's cold, the animal gets the endure elements while we huddle in the tent for warmth. Thoughts? Suggestions?
If you agree, note as much and I'll place the order with Oleg.
Roksana 'Rok' Jedynak |
I definitely agree on the wand. Mules get endurance for a total of +9 against cold weather, so depending on our travel time we may not always have to use a wand charge on them if we're feeling lucky and it could carry the large tent for us.
Jacobus Varadin |
I'm fine with that but I hate to spend all that money on the wand. I don't think we'll need it that much as long as we stay inside when it's cold.
I vote for getting a half-filled wand but can be easily persuaded otherwise.
A mule sounds good. In reality, any sort of loot would slow us down so exploring with at least one pack animals (horses?) makes sense.
Kryolani |
I agree with ration pooling for that precise reason. Also, I say a half-wand of endure elements. If the cold becomes a bigger issue than I suspect, we can always order another one.
For a goal, why don't we try to explore the hexes around the bandit camp? The ring is our current most valuable target, and it might not have wandered far from there. Also, we know there are kobolds in the area, so we might get lucky and find more of them too.
Roksana 'Rok' Jedynak |
A half charged wand only provides the full party six days worth of Endure Elements from now until level three unless we commission another one later, in which case we should have just purchased a full wand.
Since the proposal is to purchase this wand instead of the CLW, it's the same amount of gold we were already preparing to spend.
Serolt |
I'm fine searching wherever - and will likely avoid helping with those decisions. I have played this AP part way through, and though I remember very little, I can't trust my brain not to suggest advantageous routes without my knowledge. heheheh.
If we get a half wand of Endure Elements, we can also afford a CLW wand. OK to get both and the tent? We'll still have some cash left over. I can cast Endure Elements next level, and I think Jacobus can do it now (right?) so that should extend the wand.
Also, I can track the rations on the treasure sheet. Everyone please post what you're 'donating' to the group.
Serolt is donating 10 rations.
Kryolani |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Fair enough, BUT, I reserve the right to not pick up the Endure Elements spell at lvl3 if it turns out we're not blowing right through the wand.
Daddy needs an unseen servant!
Jacobus Varadin |
I donate all I have, five days' worth of trail rations.
I can't cast endure elements (not on my spell list).
We won't use the wand unless we get caught in the cold 'big time'.
Modus operandi: We won't go out if it's cold. If we're out and it gets cold, we could probably make the first couple of saves and then we'll set up the tent and be 'safe'.
I still think 1/2 wand of endure elements should be fine.
Roksana 'Rok' Jedynak |
Roksana has 14 days worth of rations to donate to the pool.
Seems the half wand votes are the majority so I'll table that argument as well.
Serolt |
OK then. We're all in agreement.
Giuseppe - We order the following from Oleg, paid by group funds.
- Wand of Endure Elements, half charges (25) for 375gp. (on order)
- Wand of Cure Light Wounds, full charges (50) for 750gp. (on order)
- Large Tent for 30gp. (available now)
I've added a rations area on the second page of the treasure spreadsheet. I'll track our ration usage and buy more from group funds as needed.
- - -
After these sales and purchases, everyone in the party gains 39gp to add to their personal character loot.

I've placed x's into the squares I think we should tackle on this trip out, starting with the one to our south and working our way around.
Jacobus Varadin |
I've placed x's into the squares I think we should tackle on this trip out, starting with the one to our south and working our way around.
I partially agree but think we should take a shorter route for our first foray to see if we get the supplies we asked for sooner and to gain more experience as explorers (ie., go up a level) before going out further.
I've placed red 'F' for the route proposed (which includes the bandits camp which needs to be explored).
The route proposed should take us 3 plains (3 days) and two forests (4 days) for a total of 7 days, if everything goes well...
Thoughts?
EDIT: Are we screwing up your map by marking it, Giuseppe?
Kryolani |
mmm, I'm down with plan F. A shorter trip is probably well advised, especially if we haven't cleared out bandit camp hex yet. I will retract plan X.
Kryolani |
hahaha, oh man, we are a heck of a group. No worries though, we'll get there. I plan on spending my skill points on K: Arcana, Spellcraft, Ride, and Craft: Stoneworking (All this spare time during our breaks at the trading post, I think Kryolani needs a hobby.)
Roksana 'Rok' Jedynak |
By the way Kryo, you can make untrained knowledge checks, but you can never get information that would be higher than a DC of 10 unless you're in a library. See here (bottom of the page)
Roksana 'Rok' Jedynak |
Just to be the devil's advocate here. In the previous combat post you used the word disabled, which in pathfinder means a creature is at 0 hit points, and Jacobus rolled a hit that was higher than previous successful rolls in the combat.
I don't think anyone was metagaming, just using the information already in place by the encounter as we were playing through it. I don't have any issue with not assuming the outcome of our actions, but I also don't think that anyone was using information outside of your own posts to make the assumptions that they did.

I get your point Roksana. It was a mistake on my part then. I meant to use the term in a non-mechanical way. And of course I always use terms in a non-mechanical sense when I write in the Gameplay Post, except for the OOC stuff.
GM Giuseppe |
I've marked a 6 day route, by numbers, if we're interested. I think we have enough rations - there's 8 days from the treasure sheet I need to bring over to our supplies, and I haves some on my horse yet. Weather might push us back sooner anyway if our luck doesn't hold out.
Giuseppe, do we need to search the hex Oleg's is in too? If so, it's a seven day run, but we can camp at Oleg's I assume that night.
Ok, so: first off, you don't need to explore Oleg's hex. Secondly, you don't need to explore hexes #5 and #6.
GM Giuseppe |
Cool - then a four day trip with a longish ride back. Thanks for the details!
You're welcome Euan. Now let's see if at least one other player agrees ;)
GM Giuseppe |
Hey guys, I've created a new reference document about Oleg's Trading Post for you and I would like each of you to accurately read it. Hit the link above, in the Campaign Info Tab, to find out more about it!
GM Giuseppe |
Okay guys, I'm sorry if I'm overwhelming you with additional readings. I would like you to read the new set of house rules (you can find the link in the Campaign Info Tab)regarding how to spend Downtime at Oleg's.
Roksana 'Rok' Jedynak |
What Kryo said. Appreciate all the work you've put into the supplemental information.
