Thozar Earthchanter |

The description says something about "like a fish through water," so I'd assume swimming!
But it is sort of pedantic to me, swimming vs flying, when it comes to magic. Both are movements through a fluid with propulsion based on applying force to the medium itself (as opposed to walking, where you apply force to a solid to move through a fluid). That said, with all the rules around swimming and flying, I do find it a little odd that earth gliding sort of gets a free pass! I know it is like a super burrow speed, but to GM Fuzzfoot's point, swimming vs flying becomes important with how gravity influences it! I still stand by swimming, but tbh what's to say gravity doesn't suck me down 9.81 m/s^2 every turn?!

Thozar Earthchanter |

We still here? How are we going to descend the shaft?

Thozar Earthchanter |

I think it is in deciding how we are going to descend the 40ft vertical shaft (besides just falling). I can earth glide, but that doesn't help y'all. I could scout a little (no stealth though) to see if it is safe for y'all to climb down a rope or something, but I suppose we would need a method of travel before we got to precautionary measures.

Gonna do something a tad rash to shake up loose again.

Thozar Earthchanter |

It is the Dwarven way! Dwarven Dungeoneering FTW!
GM, any success with the chronicles?

GM Fuzzfoot |

Let me know if anything looks amiss. There is a second page for an updated Power of the Giants chronicle which enhances the one you got for book 1.
I have also finally reported these (Book 1 & 2)

Gundar Forgelight |

Just to make sure I'm clear on this: Gundar is still climbing? Can he swing himself onto the stairs at all?

Thozar Earthchanter |

Thanks GM! :D Looks great to me.

GM Fuzzfoot |

I assumed Gundar was using the rope as a safety mechanism while using the stairs. If he was not using the stairs, there is no problem trying to swing to them.

Gundar Forgelight |

I admit I missed the part where there were stairs at first. :D Let's go with the safety rope idea.

Thozar Earthchanter |

GM, what sort of action is it to break free from the webbing Thozar jsut got hit with? While in the webbing, can he still move the flaming sphere? If he were to move the flaming sphere onto Gundar (and assuming he consents), would that free him?

GM Fuzzfoot |

Thozar is just subject to the normal condition of entangled, so casting a new spell might be difficult, but mentally controlling where the flame ball goes should not be. Otherwise, normal Strength or Escape Artist roll/rules would apply to escape.
Gundar is a level beyond that, as he is basically wrapped up. This is monster-specific, and so the only escape I see mentioned is Strength check.
However, as I have seen what fire can do to spider webs, I think we can safely assume that being hit with a ball of fire would quickly destroy the webbing and set Gundar free. It might also burn the rope he is technically still holding, so an Acrobatics roll might be necessary to stay on the stairs, but I would give +5 because I don't think he managed to get over the railing before getting zapped. So, he might take fire damage as well as fall damage, but he's a tough dwarf, so I think he'll survive.

Gundar Forgelight |

No need, for Gundar, he is mighty. Though yeah, he'd probably being set on fire and dropped down the shaft. What is it, thirty feet? 3d6 damage ain't no thang. :D

Thozar Earthchanter |

Didn't we find some scrolls of lesser restoration at some point, or am I mixing up campaigns? I don't have them in my inventory. Does our Oracle friend happen to have that as a spell known?

GM Fuzzfoot |

I don't see anything on the loot sheet. Who is your Oracle friend?

Thozar Earthchanter |

Isn’t Ingrahild’s brother an Oracle, or am I really off my rocker now?
Thozar was just searching the room we are in GM, no worries there. He still feels bad about the trap regardless!

GM Fuzzfoot |

Ah, no - the brother is a fighter/rogue.

Thozar Earthchanter |

Our party damage machines just laid on another round of serious work! If that doesn't drop this guy, I'll post, but my gut tells me Thozar isn't going to get another action!

Ingrahild Nargrymkin |

We have a large giant band spear! And a hand which will allow it to be used without penalty. Seems only fitting that someone use it. Especially as that’s a damn good weapon.
A large spear is 2d6 base damage. With bane that’s 4d6+2. Nothing to sneeze at.

Gundar Forgelight |

Part of Gundar's backstory is that he was taught by a giant-slaying ranger, so he would be willing. I feel like maybe one of the other warriors is slightly better suited to it, though. Thoughts, Ulark and Belir?

![]() |

Belir has Agrimmosh. If someone else wants the spear and hand then by all means have at it. If noone absolutely is going to use it then he will.

Ulark Twiceforged |

Ulark's used a spear before, and would be willing to sacrifice himself (or a portion of it) if it meant stopping a giant threat from orphaning more people.
If either of our other melee-ers would like the also quite nice Gorum's Thorn then, feel free. (though it looks like I'm the only blade-swinging party member who doesn't use a shield)

Ingrahild Nargrymkin |

It would be quite thematic for a tortured crusader to sacrifice his hand to fight evil.

Ingrahild Nargrymkin |

I know it isn’t in the rules...but from reading that description I think it is only fair for it to count as a gauntlet if Ulark ever finds himself unarmed. I mean, it is solid steel.

I believe he was just "un-armed" a few minutes ago...
But yes, I believe that seems a reasonable call.

Thozar Earthchanter |

If nobody else wants the armor, Thozar will snag it. Assuming it qualifies as being non-metal.

Gundar Forgelight |

All yours. I'm not sure Gundar wants to wear armor made of fingernails. :P

Thozar Earthchanter |

Lol, not gonna lie, that puts me off too!

Ingrahild Nargrymkin |

Can’t wear armor, so I’m out anyways.
Also, now that you have armor made from giant corpse, we need to craft you a weapon made out of giant bone. Enchant it to be giant-bane and you’ll be a very morbid giant slayer.

![]() |

Belir has his full plate armor, so would pass on the giant nail armor. Though it does sound cool thematically.

GM Fuzzfoot |

And yes, we’ll go with non-metal! Sorry - catching up on a few things but will post in gameplay soon.

Thozar Earthchanter |

Here!

GM Fuzzfoot |

Still here, although I don't seem to be getting alerts that messages are popping up in here anymore. This has been a ridiculous week at work (which seems to have become the norm!), but I think I was waiting on an action from you all. Answering a question in gameplay now...

Ingrahild Nargrymkin |

So was wondering. How much damage is possible vs a giant at lvl7?
Str (16) Dex (18)
Race: Dwarf (+1 Racial To Hit)
Trait: Orphaned by giants (+1 trait to hit), Heritage Weapon (Hornbow Proficiency)
Class: Ranger (+4 Hit and Damage)
Feats: Lvl 1 (PBS) Lvl 2 (Rapid Shot) Lvl 3 (Precise Shot) Lvl 5 (Deadly Aim) Lvl 6 (Improved Precise Shot) Lvl 7(Many Shot)
Equipment: +1 Adaptive Giant Bane Hornbow
To Hit: +7 (BaB), +4 (Dex), +1 (Enchantment), +2 (Bane), +2 (Race and Trait), -2 (Rapid Shot), -2 (Deadly Aim) = +14/+14/+9
Damage: 2d6 (Bow), +3 (Str), +1 (Enchantment), +2+2d6 (Bane), +4 (Favored Enemy), +4 (Deadly Aim)
Manyshot: 8d6+28
Other Hits: 4d6+14
So it could be much worse!

Gummy Bear |

Posting this in all of my campaigns. I'm sorry for my absence the past few days, but I've had some personal things come up that have kept me from posting. Related to those things, I will be taking a break from PbP, likely until next Monday (11 Nov). While I hope you will bot the character I have in our game and allow me to continue when I return, I completely understand if you would rather have me dropped from the game.

GM Fuzzfoot |

Don't sweat it, GB. I hope things balance out for you soon and that everyone is ok. We'll see you when you are able to return.

Thozar Earthchanter |

Thanks y'all :) I'm back and regular posting should resume!

Ingrahild Nargrymkin |

Thozar Earthchanter |

Not gonna lie, I have zero idea what the hell we are fighting. Those things sound really horrific, yeesh!

Thozar Earthchanter |

Sorry for the short notice, but I had to handle some stuff all evening (everything is fine now!) and don't have the time/energy to post tonight. I'll catch back up tomorrow, please bot me as necessary!

GM Fuzzfoot |

Sorry folks. Work got crazy busy, and I ended up having to travel with very limited access. Still on the road, but should be back to normal on Monday.
