One of the healthier trees lashes out at Spugnoir as he tries to throw a bomb. This hurts Spugnoir, and the tree gets a hold of him, but that doesn't save the other tree. It goes down in flames. Which releases Darius.
But now that the trees are all surrounding the party closely, they lash out in full fury. Which has all hanging between the trees, grappled by vines.

Spugnoir is not stopped by tying him up in vines. But he feels the pain as the trees keep lashing out at him as he throws his explosives. He bombs away the two wounded trees.

Grergof gets used to his situatiuon. He get so good at taking down trees, he could make a living of it. Elsewhere less resisting trees are cut down by lots of woodcutter. But Grergof could put a swath of destruction into a forest within minutes. There is not much left of the tree for the others, but it's still holding on to them.
What little is left of the tree is almost cut down by Darius.
Abomentolor's lightning doesn't affect the tree at all.

Abomentolor looks around if anything else starts moving to jump them. As nothing happens, he relaxes a bit.
Looking around and kicking some of the broken wood he complains. "Those fights are the worst. All that effort and pain for nothing but firewood." Just then the witchgate comes into his view again.
"Well, this is interesting..." He walks over, pulls out his dagger and tries to pry of one of the bigger gems from the bones. "It's this s~#*ty bone arc that has us stranded here, isn't it? How about you try that flail of yours on it?"

"Make it sticky, if you don't have a large tub where we can put that thing in. How long will it take to make it and then dissolve the bones?"
"Also, that s@+* is magic. Will it work on it at all?"

Not a bad idea. It would keep others from ever having to deal with this.
Grergof takes up his adamantine flail, and tries bashing at it once to see how that goes.

The arc is definitely more stable than normal bones. The magic, they are infused with are giving them extra strength. But some gems are shooting off and some bones are splintering.
As Grergof lays heavily into the thing with his flail, the arc starts losing. After a few minutes of heavy bashing, Grergof manages to smash a gap into it. With that the magic fades, and the remaining bones fall apart.
Taking 15 minutes to collect the shinies nets gems worth about 5000 gold.

My thanks again Father Redgrave, that was most refreshing. At least we do not need to worry about this arch any more. Let us collect these gems and move on to our destination.

Spugnoir recognozes the unique silhouette of a mountain and together with the identified North he can tell where to go. And it's not too long of a walk. For someone used to walk.
After walking through the forrest for a while the landscape changes. You come closer to an area where fog engulfs a makeshift camp on the hard, black soil of the moor here, centered around a smoky, guttering fire.

Not being very stealthy, the decision is taken away from you. Four knights in full plate, showing the insignia of Iomedae on the armor and the shield come out of the smoke to face the group. With weapons drawn they don't waste time with niceties
