Oh, woah, things went a bit quickly there. Or rather, a lot happened in a short span of time, orz. Sorry for the lack of posts - been on vacation, but I should be more solid now. :D

Kaya followed the others in their chase. She wondered how they were so easily able to realize that someone had already solved the riddle - or discerned that the speech was the answer, anyways. Perhaps it came with experience. Or maybe it was common sense? She'd long been told she had little, if any, of that, so she decided to watch carefully.

Though startled by the carnage, she wasn't as surprised by Irudiel's warning.

"It seems like we're in for a bit more lethal action than I thought," Kaya said aloud. She was trying to speak plainly, but her posture belied her nervousness.

At Graxzos' warning, she nodded. "Why d'ya think it's here?" she asked, pointing to the robot.

Lissa looks a little sick to her stomach upon seeing the carnage, with bad memories of a failed Society run floating though her head. Still, she shakes the past away and focuses on the present.

"What's the plan?" She finally asks, "Get it to come to us? Pepper it with pot shots? Or just charge in?"

Then the contruct 'looks' at them. "Or... it could decide to attack us first. Let's just junk the thing." With that, she steps just into the door, hugs the wall before turning and launching a blast of water at it.

"Let's attack it from afar, shall we?" Kaya said, feeling nervous. She sheathed her rapier, aware that going towards the construct - close to it, anyways - would probably make her sad.

She drew out her sling and a bullet, thinking they would be better in this scenario.

Pretty sure that's all Kaya can do? Since sheathing a weapon is a move action and she hasn't got any fancy feats or a BAB+1, so drawing out the sling would be another move action, right? Which would mean she's out?

You all set into combat with the strange monstrosity, but its armored body is able to turn away most of your blows! Graxos' bullet merely skips off the hard armor plating, while Guntir's acid just boils away the rust and guck over centuries of dust, but not much else. Lissa's attack seems to dislodge something on the inside, but doesn't seem to do much in the way of damage, while Irudiel finds himself to be the most effective this time, his spear lancing in between two plates and breaking some of the mechanisms within!

The construct strains against the tanglefoot glue holding its gears, and legs, together, and the combined efforts of Papy and Irudiel completely destroy its armor plating, and smash the gears inside to pieces. The construct falls to the floor, breaking apart into many, many smaller pieces.

Irudiel and Kaya are able to make short work of the trap above, and investigating the chest reveals glowing blue script (marker dye mixed with glowing ink) on the chest’s lid, which says: “The prize lies within! Test your mettle against ours!” The chest is empty except for a parchment note that reads: “Congratulations, you have passed the trial! This amulet is your prize; present it to Venture Captain Valsin as proof of your success!” Around the chest are chains that appear to have been cut through with a bladed weapon.

Examining the bodies yields exactly the same gear as the body you found earlier, except for the adamantine dagger.

Going through the open doors to the north, you enter a room twice as wide as it is long. This large, oval chamber is illuminated with a murky radiance by dimly glowing overhead crystals. The room is bare of furnishings, just an open space with a dozen semicircular alcoves around the perimeter. Mechanical horrors identical to those outside occupy a number of these alcoves, but none of the automatons seem active, and some have even fallen over. A door stands in the center of the northern wall.

As you move into the room, voices casn be heard from the other side of the door to the north. After a moment, one of them calls out.
Harlo, is that you? Finally came back to help? You damned coward, you got everyone but me and Meleren killed! What happened to that damn robot thing?

Graxzos sighs as the construct topples to the ground. "Well, I were damned near useless there..." He clears the jammed portions of his pistol, muttering curse words, as Irudiel and Kaya disable the trap. Eyeballing the parchment in the chest, he says, "Looks like we were right tha' someone else got in 'ere afore us."

Then the voice calls out from the north. "...An' they're still here!" Rapidly reloading his pistol, the dwarf takes up a position near the edge of the doorway, securely around the corner of the frame. He calls down into the hallway.

"I dunno who Harlo is, but if'n 'e was a big half-orc carryin' a diamond-steel blade, 'e's dead too! Who're you and what're you doin' in 'ere?!" As he speaks, the dwarf pulls out a strange, round object from a pocket on his vest.

You're talking or you're fighting for your life? If that fact is not enough to give you some insight and you continue thinking we're the robot's owners and want you dead, tell me why we have't sent the robot yet.

Irudiel gives them a few seconds to think about it before talk again. [b]Even if you continue thinking we're responsible for the slaughter, there must be any reson for not having attacked yet, yes? Then go out there, with your weapons seathed. And check what had happened with the robot. It's destruction will prove we're not your enemies.[/dice]

"Besides, if I remember correctly, This place was built by someone that preferred using machines. It's likely that the bloody thing was one of the leftovers from that." Lissa takes a couple steps toward the door. "At the very least, I can give my word, on Mother Moon's wings, that I have no intention of harming either of you."

Seeing that the others had things well in hand, Kaya kept quiet, simply observing. She didn't want to be a nuisance or accidentally mess things up.

None left? Damn. This was the worst foray we've ever done. Look, we just wanna get out of here. Can you help us? And I ain't opening this door until I feel like you ain't the ones that caused all this. I'll crack it though, if you can give me some proof you're not some heartless murderers.

The door cracks open, just a bit. Just enough for you to slide something through to prove you aren't... well, robotic death machines, or their friends.

What would prove that our benevolence? Lissa muses quietly. My Kapenia, maybe? She shakes her head at that idea. Am I going crazy? that's a foolish idea, and that's important to me..... What else...

After a moment's thought, Lissa reaches into her bag and draws out a well-loved deck of fortune-telling cards. "Worth a shot." And with slight hesitation, she steps forward and slides the deck in. "They're important enough to me to be a sacrifice, even if I can replace them."

I can think a better proof Lissa. Then Irudiel turns to the door and asks, a part of the destroyed robot is enought proof for you? We can break it a little more and give you a piece of it.

"Indeed, that should be proof enough. Cause, you know, we're robot-proof! BWAHAHAHA!" Papy laughs while Toggeli rolls his eyes.

"We are in flesh and bone!" says Tog with the will to do what is best.

"What? You? You're more than this, friend! You're ectoplamicly fleshy!" shouts Papy to his companion.

"Dwarf humour. I can't stand it." says Toggeli shrugging and going back in a corner.

Kaya giggled at the proceedings, whispering to Irudiel, "Does this happen a lot?" She asked, pointing towards the door, obviously talking about whatever fearful people that were hiding out behind it. "Running into scared people like this?"

She would've felt bad that she didn't have anything to show their good faith with if she'd empathized more with them.

"Not often," Graxzos mutters across the gap. "Dead, undead, an' possessed're more likely."

The two converse for a second, and then the door opens. A woman stands facing you, bloodied and worn.
My associate is still thinking sharp enough to tell me that there really isn't anyway for you to really prove any damn thing to us, so I guess we're just going to have to trust you. You did destroy the giant robot, afterall.

She grimaces, and clutches a wound on her side for a moment.
You wouldn't happen to have any healing ability with you, would you? We escaped but only barely. My name is Shechera, and my friend here is Meleren. We don't know what the hell happened, but judging by the non-lethal-ness of those pathfinder traps, and the pure destruction by those machines, I don't think the machines were supposed to come out and attack.

Lissa puts away her fortune deck and, with only a slight pause, pulls out a wand. "While I can't use this, I'm sure one of my companions can." As such, she'll offer the wand to whomever is willing to use on the wounded bandit.

"In any case, I'm Lissa. I'm sorry about your loss, I went though similar several weeks back in a backwater part of Andoran."

It's my CLW wand.
