Oracle of Life story:

Can't remember if I told this already but at Who's Yer Con last year I was GMing for a group of guys who had an Oracle of Life as their healer. They all started taking lots of damage. . . which meant he started taking lots of damage. He was starting to go negative and was about to drop his links (an immediate action, I believe) when someone reminded him that he had used his immediate already this round (for a fortune hex or something similar) so he couldn't drop the link, even if he wanted.

He didn't die but he was a few points away. Everyone else instantly got the hilarious idea to just start running back and forth across the battlefield to provoke as many times as possible so the life oracle would be forced to take their damage and die.

Needless to say, they didn't actually do it but it was a funny thought. Reckless abandon! It's not our lives we're risking!

So you've finished the overarching goal for this book so you could leave the dungeon, go to Sheila Heidmarch, and move on. But there are still a few rooms/encounters left in the dungeon (including the devils on the floor above) and you'll miss out on a bit of treasure. But if you guys want to move on to book 2, I can do that too.

Either way, I'll get the chronicles to you soon since we're done with the main mission of the book. I need everyone to let me know which PFS character they are applying the chronicle to so I can report it. It is for levels 3-5 so you can apply it to any character of those levels or hold on to it for a 1st or 2nd level character. It is worth 3 XP (so an entire level) and 4 PP.

Hmmm, damn good question. I could use it for Quiven (my only 3rd level character), though it may be a while before we finish Burnt Offerings (that's a 3XP thing too, right?). I have a 7th level sheet set up for Bizzle already, I could use it for him. And of course I have a host of other 2nd level characters. Damn, I'm really not sure.

Yes, Burnt Offerings is another 3 XP chronicle sheet.

Sometimes with the AP chronicle sheets it's best to try to put them all on the same character because the boons stack nicely, but that's not necessarily true with Shattered Star since you can only have one Shard active at a time. It's until the book 6 chronicle (levels 16-18) that you can use two at once.

Take a look at the Shard abilities and penalties. It might fit more with one character than another. I'm applying this to Black Bart, my halfling rogue, because I think I can role-play the penalties with him more than my other characters. He's only 1st level though so I'll need to hold on to it.

Ok, I'll report it once Karn decides on a character to apply it to.

For some reason I thought your PFS character would have to suffer with the curse but I didn't even think that you could just buy the requisite ioun stone and counteract the curse and then get the shard's abilities without penalty. You can still only use one shard at a time but it's still a pretty cool boon.

I don't see anything on the Chronicle that leads me to believe you can use an ioun stone to counter-act the penalty. You aren't gaining the benefit by virtue of physically having the shards, so the penalty cannot be offset in the same way as though you did.

But it's still a pretty awesome Chronicle :)

Yeah, I guess you're right. It just says you have the "influence" of one shard active on you, not that you actually have the shard. Still neat though.

As far as our 3000gp rewards go, I wonder if that money would be well spent on getting some items enchanted, or do we wait for somethiung bigger? Argust doesn't like making these decisions you know. :)

Is it time to enchant a weapon for Argust, or are we saving coin for more elaborate purchases down the road? For what I can tell each of us should have a nice little stash of gold. Argust will ask his liege for advice on the money matters, of course, but I thought this would be a good idea to bring up since we are now moving into Book 2.

Yeah, enchanting the fighter's weapon is usually one of the first things to do along with buying the wizard a few new spells for his spellbook but Brelar seems to be functioning fine with what he has.

Going over the loot sheet, I found a couple of things I'd forgotten I had, some of which (wand of mage armor, scroll of shield) I can't use. I suggest that Brelar take the headband, Karnhousk take the +1 buckler and the wand of spiritual weapon, Bert gets the lens of detection (and makes it available to Karnhousk for Survival checks), and we sell everything else.

Incidentally, Brelar, I think an everburning torch (which we have one of) will penetrate normal darkness spells and SLAs.

To enchant Argust's weapon and armor it would take 3000gp, correct? I'm pretty sure his share of the loot covers that. Since Brelar handles his finances I've honestly lost track but I thought we easily had that last week.

The headband appears to be useless to me? The ioun stone in the shard gives me a +2 enchantment bonus to Int already.

I'll get some stuff sorted out for Argust as well today. I'm thinking we should sell the headband even though it hurts me to say so. Argust should hold the second shard as Bert suggests, and Bert or Karn should hold the ioun stone for now. Enchantment magic and a succubus? Yeah, this won't end badly...

I've been busy as well. I've looked at the loot list but I wasn't sure how up-to-date it was. Since Argust doesn't really need too much in the way of these fancy magic items I don't pay as much attention. All I can think of is doing the enchantments I mentioned.

Ok, I got it sorted out and it's actually everything up to line 51 was sold. I put a dark blue line across there. Everything else we've found totals up to about 8300 gp, but there is still plenty of stuff up for grabs, just put your name next to something if you want it and we'll get this stuff cashed out.

Argust you may want to enchant your armor and weapon, and/or pick up a ring of protection or amulet of natural armor and a cloak of resistance depending on what you can afford.

OK, did some research and I think Argust should have 6352gp to use. Enchanting the weapon and armor will remove 3000 of that so he should have 3352 left over for something else. That cloak of resistance sounds good and I'll get the ring too, unless you come up with a better idea.

Tell me about it. I'm playing a wizard in Carrion Crown, just hit fourth last night. But he uses a ton of scrolls and every time we get a break I'm scribing lots of scrolls and learning new spells. He's going Cyphermage so he eventually gets special scroll abilities.

I am ok to cash out on the current loot sheet for an additional 2619 gp each. I'm putting that with some of my other money to buy the clear spindle which I will keep in my wayfinder and give to Argust as needed ;)

I think I've got Bert set. L6 is a good one for archaeologists; he gets Evasion; another +1 to all Knowledge skills, Perception, and Disable Device; the ability to disable magical traps; and a new L2 spell. (I picked Snapdragon Fireworks, unless someone has a better idea.)
