Remember, Walter, that you get to make a stabilization check each turn, and at +1 for your Con.
Naurin feels as though she is floating on clouds instead of cobblestones, but with a painful tugging near her heart, as if her limp body were being pulled upwards by the arrow. Naurin, this is the call!

GM Derek W |

Don't feel too bad Arya, misfortune is a great hex! It bailed out my table group several times.
Parani Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Parani feels a bit woozy, and she hesitates for a moment.
End of Round 1
Round 2
All of a sudden, the group sees vines and weeds spring up out of the ground!
I need each of you to make a Reflex save, DC 12, or become entangled.
Walter, you will lose 1 HP on your next turn. You need to hit a DC 10 Fort save, but you suffer a -1 penalty for each negative HP. That means you'll need to hit an 18 to stabilize, or someone needs to get a 15 on a Heal check.
If anyone has a wand of CLW maybe Gunther can use it? Or does Urban Ranger cost you spellcasting?
Naurin manages to stablize, and she is no longer dying!
Next Up:
Johann
Malfeas
Gunther
-Walter-
Arya

"I have a potion we can use on Walter as soon as we're no longer in danger!"
reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Johann dodges the weeds and lobs another bomb.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 that probably won't hit
miss direction: 1d8 ⇒ 2
5 pts splash damage to the target.

Did we see who cast the entangling roots?
"I can't, so the only way I can help is to put this one down." says Malfeas barely noticing the vines as he steps into close range and sends two arrows at the woman
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Shot 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 141d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Shot 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 191d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

GM Derek W |

Johann's bomb misses the woman, but explodes nearby and causes her to begin swaying in place. Mez just catches her in the shoulder with his second arrow, which causes her to collapse in a heap on top of the tents. At that moment, the entanglement disappears!
You could tell the "lone ranger" had cast the spell. Parani, the BBEG, is now at -2 HP.

![]() |

Malfeas rushes inside the tent, and uses the tip of an arrow to slice the fabric where it sags under the weight of the woman. Grabbing her fallen body, he drags it over to the group, her bow in his hand.

![]() |

Johann, seeing the woman go down, pulls his potion from his pouch and runs to Walter's side. He holds the potion out in his hand for anyone to take who ia able to administer it to the downed half-orc.

Hey, Walter! Is that you? Where are you going? Wait up! ... Oh well...
Mmmmm, is that grass I smell? In this part of the city? ... Ah, when I come back to the ground I will take a nice, long nap in the grass. I'm so tired...
Now where are you going, Walter?

![]() |

Naurin?...I can barely hear you! Is everything fading?...
I may not be going to meet Abadar quite yet!...
potion CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Walter was at -8 (I believe), so...
Thank you Johann. I owe you one!
Naurin, at least we are not bleeding!

![]() |

That makes sense, Arya. I've been having fun with her unconscious life. :)
What is that little bird? ... Morrigan, you say? ... Oh, no, thank you, I don't need any help finding anything. I'll be going back there soon, I think.

Johann has a fix for this situation too. He digs in his bag and finds a vial of smelling salts, uncorks it, and waves it under Naurin's nose.
Smelling Salts: These sharply scented gray crystals cause people inhaling them to regain consciousness. Smelling salts grant you a new saving throw to resist any spell or effect that has already rendered you unconscious or staggered. If exposed to smelling salts while dying, you immediately become conscious and staggered, but must still make stabilization checks each round; if you perform any standard action (or any other strenuous action) you take 1 point of damage after completing the act and fall unconscious again. A container of smelling salts has dozens of uses if stoppered after each use, but depletes in a matter of hours if left opened.
Naurin, you should now be conscious and able to channel.

Naurin, you should now be conscious and able to channel.
Nice!

"Where is the grass? Oh! that hurts."
Naurin channels her connection to the mysteries of life and a warm burst of healing spreads outward.
Excluding the villain:
Channel Healing: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Channel Healing: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Channel Healing: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Leaving two, just in case.
Cure Light Wounds, Naurin: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Back to full.
"Is anyone else still injured?"

Gunther leaves Walter in more capable hands, and moves over to Malfeas and the assailant.
"Great shooting Mal," he comments with a smile. "Now let's see what our little killer has, eh?"
He checks her gear as he pulls it off her, and uses his rope to tie her up.
"Naurin, not that I really want her healed, but letting her die isn't what we are supposed to be doing. Can you spare a little for our villianess, so we can turn her over to stand trial alive?"

![]() |

"How ... is she dressed? Is she a real ... Graycloak? Does she match Barleyhusk's description? Can we ... match one of these arrows ... to the arrow we found on the rooftop?" Naurin asks, having more questions than breath at the moment.
The token doesn't match a "dark" woman. ;)
Rushing to her victim, Naurin assures, "Absolutely, Gunther. I just needed her restrained first."
Cure Light Wounds, Villain: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
If that doesn't do it:
Cure Light Wounds, Villain: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Walter rises to his feet.
He looks around at the group.
He stares at Naurin, smiling.
I must thank you for your assistance. It seems that we were
her main targets, but--I presume--for good reason!
Walter steps over the unconscious form of their captive.
I suggest that we take her immediately to The Greycloaks.
It will show that we Pathfinders are willing to recognize their authority in this district and--perhaps--
alleviate some of the bad blood!
Walter picks up the villain, placing her--
unceremoniously--over his shoulder.

I’ll handle the wrap up… So the day is saved, we literally get the girl, we’re lauded as heroes of the realm, and have riches and power showered upon us. GG. Well, Except for Naurin, she’s been involved is a scandal over having her nickers seen all over town!

GM Derek W |

Thanks Mal, saves me a bit of typing! Oh, you guys want the PAIZO story? Ok then, time for the lunch-time wrap-up!
As Walter starts walking odwn the street, a large contingent of Graycloaks arrive, led by Runewulf the Unbeliever (their captain) himself. Parani manages to regain consciousness, and blames you for what's happened. She says you stalked her and then attacked and captured her.
Runewulf does not seem pleased that you attacked one of his most promising guards, and demands evidence to back up your claims that Parani is really a criminal.

GM Derek W |

You are able to present your case to Runewolf.
First, you tell him that Rialla Barleyhusk will sign sworn testimony placing a Graycloak woman at the scene of the first mugging. She is also quite sure that the original arrow wound would have resulted in a
much slower death.
The poisoned arrow you recovered from the roof opposite Erastil’s Alehouse is a match to the ones used by Parani in the final fight.
Kanebti also offers to come forward, now that he feels safe, and shares his account of his blackmailer’s ties back to Rahadoum.
You also show Runewolf all the items that you recovered from the warehosue, including Cayden’s Last Keg, the accompanying letters of interest, Parani Akar’s Pure Legion uniform and identification.
The evidence against Parani is overwhelming. Parani is eventually tried and convicted for her crimes. Word of the evenhanded way the Pathfinders handled the situation spreads throughout Absalom’s guards and much of the tension between the Society and the local guard in Absalom eases for a while.
The End.

Edit: Aw, I was just getting Naurin warmed up! ;)
By-the-way, perhaps learning a little from the sniping incident, Naurin is going to have hidden her holy symbol of Iomedae, which she carries despite being only an oracle, not a cleric.
"Yes sir, and you deserve both a good explanation and strong evidence! First, beyond any witnesses - though there may be few, given her skill - of her sniping us from the tent, we have this here wagonload of evidence and many personal statements to back up our claims. We had great difficulty ourselves believing that it was a real Graycloak - and not an imposter - until all of the evidence was in. First, let us show you the evidence found at a fire-trapped warehouse. We were led there after following (with a spell to locate objects) a decoy 'Last Cask of Cayden Cailean' which was stolen from us by invisible thieves. We found the cask at the warehouse next to this footlocker."
Naurin shows Captain Runewulf the lockerfull of evidence and the catalog of it that she has made. (Not mentioning Arya's treasure, which was removed before it made it onto her list, unfortunately breaking the chain of evidence...)
"Then let us review the chain of witnesses that we interviewed and, in two cases, caught.
I can add more later, or others can, a bit later.

![]() |

"It was more than good enough for me and Walter," Naurin chuckles back at Malfeas, still grimly but with obvious relief. "Still, you can fill us in on what we missed over a few pints of ale from the Last Cask of Cayden Cailean, safely back at the Grand Lodge. Perhaps, if we get Johann drunk enough, he will take that test of the Starstone afterall."
