GM Cody |

Hey guys, I've been working a couple of 12 hour days. I'll try and move us along Sunday evening.

Saniana Quickly |

I'm thinking of taking a level of unchained summoner for Saniana's 2nd level, with the Fey Caller archetype. Her eidolon would be fey, which goes well with Saniana's interest in the fey. It would be a better fighter than her and she could use her magic to buff/heal. I'm still considering pros and cons so if anyone has any suggestions or if the GM would have any issues, let me know.
Related issue: how will new level hit points be determined?

Beorn Haraldson |

First, do what you will have the best time with your character. But if you ask my advise, I like druids much more that summoners. Did you consider the Feyspeaker archetype?
If you only take one level of summoner then your eidlolon is not going to keep up is it? And that slows the progression on your badger. And then you would have two creatures to keep up with? Is there some way you can combine your druid and summoner levels to only have one "pet?"

GM Cody |

Hitpoints will probably just be Half+1.
d6 = 4 + con
d8 = 5 + con
d10 = 6 + con
d12 = 7 + con
I don't have any issues with the summoner, are you wanting to go full summoner from now on or bounce back and forth?

Saniana Quickly |

I think Saniana is primarily a druid so I might just take one level of summoner to provide some of the perks like the eidolen plus liberal use of summon nature's ally. I might stagger it and go up 2 levels of druid for each level of summoner, just to keep the level dependent elements from being too low to be effective against higher level opponents.
There was an issue with the Fey Caller Archetype, which is specifically linked to the unchained summoner. It requires that the eidolen be a fey type rather than an azata, demon, etc. The question arises about certain eidolon evolutions which have prerequisites that the fey version cannot meet. It is likely that the prerequisites need to be edited to specify the evolutions the fey eidolon can qualify for, but the RAW don't allow the fey eidolon many options, including a number of options that should be available. See this post for a detailed description of the issue.
I was planning on taking the unchained summoner rather than the original, just because consensus has developed that the original summoner was overpowered and easily abused.
I read another post by someone contemplating the Fey Caller archetype and advice was given to make the eidolon be a skill monkey and perhaps have it act more as a scout than another fighter. That might fit well for Saniana, give her an ally that can make her more versatile. If she needs to contribute to a fight, she can summon something to fight as she has already done. The things she summons will last a minute or more and only take a standard action to summon.
She has an interest in fey so the fey caller would link her more strongly to the world of the fey.
There is another archetype called a First Worlder which is similar to fey caller, but it is linked to the original summoner class. If allowed, I might prefer to run the original summoner; I would submit each new level for approval, so you could veto anything that seemed unbalanced. If this is okay, I would definitely limit her summoner level to half her druid level, just to keep the focus on nature and the druid role.

GM Cody |

I don't really mind the regular summoner, I am pretty open, as long as the players aren't trying to game it.
I try very hard to be fair, I never want it to feel like GM vs players. I find that as long as I that dynamic doesn't exist the players tend not to feel like they have to make overpowered monstrosities.
I think the Fey Caller was supposed to be the unchained version of the First Worlder.
I don't mind if you want to go solely summoner, from here on out. Its not like a druid is absolutely required for Kingmaker, ya know? Don't feel constrained.

Beorn Haraldson |

I have run a First Worlder before. His solution to most any enemy was to summon stirges at it. Enough stirges draining con can kill anything. They grapple and attack touch AC. The archtype was banned in PFS if I recall correctly.

Saniana Quickly |

Thanks for the leeway and the advice. I'm still working out options. I might stick with straight druid. If I wanted to adopt the Fey Speaker archetype even though I did not do so from the beginning, could I? I'm not sure I want to, but now that I'm getting a sense of Saniana being especially interested in the fey, it might be a good fit.
I'm hoping that later in the AP when there starts to be kingdom-building and more emphasis perhaps on diplomacy, that Saniana might be helpful in working with any fey inhabitants of the region and perhaps the elves, gnomes, and other semi-fey intelligent races. She might like to establish a place where the wilderness is maintained and those who like to live in a place that does not have the trapping of civilization everywhere could find a home.
I don't think she'll every be a heavy hitter in combat, but I'd like her to be able to contribute something in just about every situation. That might make the multi-class option the better way to go.

Saniana Quickly |

If I do multi-class, I'd like to use the fractional base bonus system from the Pathfinder Unchained book.

GM Cody |

Hey guys, I'm not sure what happened to Kas its been a couple of weeks since his last in-game post, I sent him a private message but haven't heard anything back from him.
That's kind of why I've been delaying the game. I was thinking of opening recruitment to grab a couple of people. What are you thoughts?

Beorn Haraldson |

I'd hate to loose Kas. Nothing he has said suggests he was going to drop. I looked at some of his other aliases and he posted at least twice yesterday in other games. I the issue is the slowness of this game if we get back closer to daily posting I hope he will be back. If not we may loose people.
I'll PM him as well.

BOT BUDDY 2003 |

I would hate to lose him as well. Definitely has been a slower pace game. I can work on picking the pace up if that's what we want.

Kasimyr "Kas Crimson" Varias |

Hey All - my apologies for the lack of posting in the Kingmaker game. Though I've been having a hard time trying to solidify Kas in the storyline and find his stride, I consider that my issue and not an issue of GM or players. Recently it's been sort of a guilt-spiral to that point, so I'll get back into the game here starting tomorrow evening when I get home from work.

Beorn Haraldson |

I wanted to give a heads up that I will be on vacation and traveling through central Europe from May 9-May 25. I'll be able to post some while traveling but will have to do so from my phone or iPad. So please bot me if required and know that I'll post when I can.

Saniana Quickly |

Good to know. Actually, the AC that had been listed in her header was apparently from an encounter when she was not wearing her armor. Her AC is actually 17 at the moment. Sorry for the oversight.
I will get a post up later today.

Saniana Quickly |

Level up question: At first level, we got 2 skills to spend on background skills. Do we get more such points each level or was that just at 1st level?
After considering adding a level of summoner, I have decided to stick with druid levels for Saniana.
She is changing the terrain type associated with the Explorer trait to plains. This gives her a bonus of +2 to survival rolls made in that terrain type.
She's taking a point of Fire resistance as her favored class benefit (a druid favored class option).
I'll take the average hit point increase if we have to choose between rolling random or taking the average amount. I might suggest that we each get to roll our normal hit die for the level, but if it is less than half the hit die, we get a minimum of 1 more than half the hit die total. This method was used in a home brew game I was in and it worked well.
The only other new thing for Saniana is that she gets woodland stride, so that she is not hindered by underbrush and such obstacles.
I forgot about one of her alternate gnome racial traits: Warden of Nature, which should have given her a bonus to her AC and attacks against vermin. That would have helped in the fight against the spiders.

GM Cody |

It was my understanding with the background skills is that you continue adding a rank into that skill with each level for free. So background skills have ranks equal to your character level

Rosetta Westfall |

I'm leveled up, I didn't get much.
7 hitpoints, Average 6 + 1 for Con.
More BAB, no slayer talent, instead I have my Sniper strike which lets me shoot a target within my first bow range increment and deal sneak attack damage + my level to the target.
Lets me sneak attack a creature outside of the 30 foot restriction but they can't have noticed me yet.
The downside is the target is immediately aware of my presence, which seems a little silly but it has to have a downside.

Kasimyr "Kas Crimson" Varias |

Woot! Congrats everyone!
I've got kids with end of school and awards and a birthday thrown in this week, so it will take me just a bit to sort out 2nd Level. Kas though will be focusing on cleric the whole way I think...though in retrospect I am worried about his lack of martial abilities with our current configuration.

GM Cody |

I don't think its too bad, we have a pretty archetypal group.
Greatsword fighter
bow archer
good cleric
nature focused druid
Do you guys want me to look for another arcane spell caster?

Kasimyr "Kas Crimson" Varias |

Kasimyr 2nd Level - Cleric
* 6 hit points, Avg 5 + 1 Con.
* additional orision and 1st lvl spell
* +1 to Fort & Will Saves, +1 BAB
* 5 skill points - to Heal, Perception, Diplomacy, Knowledge: Arcana and Spellcraft
* 2 background skill points - to Knowledge: History and Appraise

Rosetta Westfall |

do you think we need another arcane spell caster? it might be good in the long run maybe?

Beorn Haraldson |

Yes, I'd like to have some arcane ability in the party. Plus another good player should add to the story and the fun.
I am still traveling but will be home tonight and can level tomorrow. Beorn will get Lay on Hands ability so can sel heal a little. I hope that helps a lot in a fight.

Beorn Haraldson |

Ok. Finally back. A great trip - tour of central Europe. Now I have to go do a lot of research on the Hapsburg dynasty. I should know more about something so big and important.
Beorn will of course take another level of Paladin.
He gains 6(average hp)+2(con bonus)+1(favored class) = 9 hp
His BAB increases by 1 to 2
Fort and will saves increase by 1 from 2 to 3, making his saves +7 Fort, +3 Reflex, and +5 Will
He gains Lay on Hands(3/day) and Diving Grace(Chr bonus to saves)
He gains 4 skill point + 2 background skill points and spends then:
Regular Skills
Diplomacy +1 for a total of 7
Heal +1 for a total of 4 (6 with healer's kit)
Knowledge Religion +1 for a total of 3
Perception +1 for a total of 6
Background Skills
Handle Animals +1 for a total skill of +7
Knowledge Nobility +1 for a total skill of +3

Kasimyr "Kas Crimson" Varias |

Yes, I'd like to have some arcane ability in the party. Plus another good player should add to the story and the fun.
I'm certainly on board with this notion! I'd say that in PbP-land it's more fun to have a larger group than the traditional minimum, due to posting rates and interactions because of the posting medium.

Kasimyr "Kas Crimson" Varias |

So I haven't been up on the loot sheet and what we have - anyone good at summarizing that? I could definitely put in a requisition at Oleg's for some scale mail, and maybe we could get a couple of alchemical-type items crafted from Bokken? Like some alchemist's fire and antitoxins, that sort of thing.

Beorn Haraldson |

Bjorn is wearing scale mail now and hopes to upgrade to a breastplate at some point. You can have his scale mail when he does. :)
And no, I have not been tracking loot. Its certainly not a focus of this character so I have been mostly ignoring it.

GM Cody |

Yeah I haven't been the greatest about updating the item list either.

Kasimyr "Kas Crimson" Varias |

Well I think the main thing is just that we can spend money if/when we need to that we know we have, but otherwise I'm not too worried about it. I just haven't been keeping any track whatsoever, including how Bokken's potions were procured.
For now I'll have Kas don the ring, and when I can discern the cloak through Spellcraft then someone can put in a claim for that one...

GM Cody |

Oh boy! I already offered an invitation to one lol.
I should have asked for your guys' input but I was trying to be quick so I can move things along.
I invited Harrolayne to the group. They are an elf teleportation wizard.
Who did you like Beorn?

Beorn Haraldson |

I am sure that will work fine. I was not pleased to see a couple builds that were trying to be melee fighters. If you have selected someone perhaps you need to announce that in the recruitment threat. People are still posting there.

GM Cody |

Yeah I also was shying away from those melee wizards. The one I did invite seems like a pretty standard wizard and a good working backstory.

Harrolayne |

Greetings, one and all. Thank you for having me along with you. Looking forward to taming some wilderness and carving out our own little piece of paradise.
Harrolayne is a standard wizard, which was much of the attraction for me, as it has been a long time since I've played one. She is a battlefield control and summoning wizard, who will throw the occasional illusion around just to keep everybody guessing.
Harrolayne was once Kyonin nobility, and was quite snobbish before her father's financial ruin forces humility upon her. Occasionally, her snobbish side comes to the fore, usually when she falls back into old habits (elves have a hard time changing their ways). It was her time at an art school in Taldor, run by a sect of Shelyn priests, that taught her the value of selflessness and the vanity of pride.
Mechanically, she is a spellbinder, which allows her to spontaneously cast various spells, most of which will be summon monster spells. She also has various abilities and feats which will cause her summons to last quite a long time, for a non-summoner. She'll focus mostly on celestial animals, elementals, and good outsiders: no demons or devils for her.
She has arrived in the Broken Lands chasing rumours about a human man she had had a fling with fifty years ago (he'd be 70 by now) and the son she had by him that her father made her give up. I will willingly admit some of the inspiration for her backstory has come from my wife recently watching Downton Abbey reruns for the fourth time.

Kasimyr "Kas Crimson" Varias |

Welcome Nazard! I took a quick looksee at Harrolayne and she seems really fun and interesting to play. I think we're all still working to figure out our PC interactions and what makes for a solid group dynamic, so it will be fun to have Harrolayne enter in and be part of that gelling process. Oh and look a Shelynite connection - woot!

Saniana Quickly |

My teaching schedule is changing again at the end of this week and this time I have an extra class which will mean an extra 10 hours out of my schedule, so posting time will be less frequent. I'll try to keep up as best I can but it might be a bit slow in the middle of the work week.
I'm also going to have some extra prep time needed this week to be ready for it.

Kasimyr "Kas Crimson" Varias |

Hi All - starting on Thursday the family and I will be overseas on vacation for the next couple of weeks. I am taking a laptop with the materials to be able to post, though it will be spotty at times due to time and availability of internet. I'll keep checking the posts often as best as I can.
