BACKGROUND
Growing up near Greengold, Kyonin, as the third daughter of his Lord Cylond Mirestone, Lady Harrolayne enjoyed many of life’s privileges. Her father’s estates, near the port city of Greengold, were crumbling around her, but her parents sheltered her against her family’s misfortunes, and she enjoyed a life of relative luxury, eating well, having the best tutors, and generally believing herself the top of the social food chain. She spent many months as a young lady wooing respectable noble bachelors who knew the truth of her meager dowry and turned their attentions elsewhere – not that Harrolayne ever noticed.
There was one suitor for her affections who was not put off by her lack of dowry. Yvgeni, a young human living in the port city, was the son of a local ship's captain. They had met by chance one day as Lady Harrolayne perused the local marketplace. Quite taken with the dashing young man, she entered a brief flirtation and liaison: their tryst resulted in Lady Harrolayne becoming pregnant.
The pregnancy, if public knowledge, would have completely ruined any chances of finding an appropriate match, and Lord Cylond wasn't ready to give up and throw his daughter away to a human cabin boy. Therefore, Lady Harrolayne went into isolation until she delivered, and her half-elven son was handed off to the boy's father, along with a handful of gold and instructions to leave Kyonin and never return.
Forty years passed, and Lord Cylond's fortune was gone, his once proud house a ruin and laughing stock. Too proud to bear the shame, he sold what he could to give to his daughters, then ended himself. Distraught and alone, Harrolayne wandered for years, until on a whim, she enrolled in a Shelynite art school in Oppara. Here, her paintings and love of languages took off and matured, and the persistent goodness of the Shelynite clergy helped her to see the things that truly mattered in life. After nearly half a century, her thoughts turned back to the son she had abandoned, and she began to piece together whatever became of him, and his father.
Recently, Harrolayne has begun the process of tracking down their northward journey, as they had headed towards the chaos of the River Kingdoms and beyond.
DESCRIPTION
Harrolayne is 5’6” tall, with long brown hair and tanned skin. She prefers to dress in functional, yet well-made clothing, with bits of fur to add an air of wealth to her appearance. While the Shelynites broke her of much of her aristocratic snobbery, it does resurface from time to time, especially in times of stress. In the past, she was used to leveling a glare at some upstart peasant and compelling him or her to do her bidding…now she often has to catch herself from falling into the same old traps.
