We already have plenty of people interested for the few slots I have, so let's call it
DOTS CLOSED AS OF RIGHT NOW.
I know it's a little sudden, but I need to close it off at some point and now is as good a time as any.
To be very clear, there is still time to submit characters. I'm just closing new dots. Characters will be due middle of next week. I know high level builds take some time, so I'm going to be flexible and not near as sudden on that bit.
Dangit! I was just finishing up my character! I didn't think it was necessary because I was so close. Gaaah. I had to step away due to an emergency. I will offer up a first born for a chance.

Yeah... I'm still not quite sure of how many character levels my Aranea would be starting with and whether I can retrain monster feats (though I'm resolved to not go over CL 17)
Retaining of monster feasts would give you a lot of available feasts that a sorcerer normally wouldn't have. I'm afraid I would have to say no.
An Aranea would start with 15 class levels.

Ok, grace is needed with such a sudden closing. I understand your perspective (been there). Welcome to the running. :)

A chance is all I need.
You're A king! A mensch! Naming my first kid after ya, though I think "GM Choon" might be a little unweildly, ahh she/he'll deal.

Yoes, just want to make sure my question didn't get lost in the shuffle.
Okay, I want to do an Arcane Trickster as a Sphere caster. There's a list of conversions that include the Arcane Trickster Prestige class here: SoP All Classes conversion
If you'll allow that, that's what I'll go with. If not, I'll be doing a sorcerer/rogue multi-class.

AdamWarnock |

I'm still skimming the spheres of power book. Life is busy and today was brutal. As soon as I have a decision I'll let you know. Either way you'll have build time.
Okay, sorry. I'm just a bit impatient to get building is all. Can you tell?
bummer found this too late..
hmmmm...imagine Noro at level 17? nahhh.
What do you mean nah? If you stick with the RotRL game, she's going into the final encounter at 17-18, and she is going to pwn somebody.

Oliveo Taragoš |

OK, gyrfalcon here presenting Oliveo Taragoš, my Varisian bard and devotee of the Eternal Rose. See below for his Backstory & Personality. His crunch is will be following shortly.
Background
Oliveo Taragoš /oh-lee-VAY-oh Ta-ra-GOSHZ/ is renowned across all of Avistan, and into the vast Padishah Empire of Kelesh as a musician who can inspire armies to glory, melt the hearts of women and men, converse with songbirds, and (they say) make a stony sphinx weep with joy. Oliveo is known as well for his great devotion to Shelyn, and as a man of deep passions and big appetites.
To this day, in Qadira the Satrap himself will tell that--when feuding efreet and shaitans were engaged in a sprawling battle that was ravaging his kingdom--this lone wandering minstrel succeeded at brokering a truce between the warring factions. As a reward for making peace and ending the devastation (the Satrap will tell you) Oliveo was given a flying carpet out of the Satrap’s own stores.
In Lastwall, when an encroaching horde of frigid corpses with bloody claws marched out of the Hungry Mountains toward Vigil, the faith of the stalwart defenders started to falter and fall beneath the undead army’s frozen fists. Fortunately word came via songbirds to Oliveo, who was a rare invited non-elven guest musician in Kyonin performing The Starfall Sonnets on an outdoor stage in the enchanted Fierani Forest. He begged forgiveness of Queen Telandia for delaying the next week’s performances (for the Sonnets are written to be sung under the moon for six hours each evening for a fortnight) and--with the Queen’s blessings--flew through the night on the Satrap’s magic carpet. Oliveo arrived, concertina in hand, and with a rousing hymn to Shelyn he lead the vanguard to beat back the Whispering Tyrant’s servants.
There are less grand tales as well: tales that he’s quick to fall head over heels in love, tales of his legendary devotion to the Eternal Rose, who is his greatest muse, and even (if you ask for them) tales of his childhood in Varisia.
You see, Oliveo was born to a Varisian family that had put down roots in Korvosa. His mother Zora was a Cleric at the Sanctuary of Shelyn and his father Jerome was a local woodworker. Together they raised Oliveo in the city’s North Point district and taught their son to love the arts and beauty in all forms. With the blessing of the Eternal Rose, young Oliveo proved quite gifted at song, dance, and at playing the concertina. He can tell of his early dreams of a place in the grand Marbledome opera...and of his bitter rows with it’s director Touran Palastus (who found Oliveo as intolerable as Oliveo found him). Before his first season was over, Oliveo stormed off, bid his parents a teary farewell, and took to the road to pursue his dream elsewhere. He made his way to Taldor where he studied at the Kitharodian Academy in Oppara for many years, eventually achieving the distinguished title of Grand Master. Of course, he left and returned many times before achieving that highest honor: often traveling across the Inner Sea sharing the music he so loved, other times joining up with an adventuring band off to stop raiding ogres or--much later--an ancient black dragon that was terrorizing the Shackles.
Wherever he’s gone he’s worked to praise love in all forms, to bring beauty to the towns and villages he passes through, and to help those in need as he’s able. As he’s traveled, performing at venues both small and grand, his fame as a musician has grown...and he enjoys the fame and adoration he often receives from those who appreciate the arts.
Personality
* quick to fall in love,
* loves fame, great food, great drink, and great beauty in all of its forms,
* devoted to Shelyn,
* generous and big hearted
Drawback
His heroic flaw is his great appetite: for fame, great food, great drink, and great beauty in all of its forms
EDIT: While crunch isn't done yet, I can say he'll play a broad range of support roles, including buffing allies with performances and spells. After his Charisma his next highest stat will be his Intelligence, and (with the help of Bardic Knowledge) should be a reliable knowledge monkey and skill monkey as well.

So I made a character for this game but I just had the idea of readjusting an old one that could fit really well into this one shot due in some part to Monsters with class levels being allowed.
@ GM Choon How would you feel about me submitting an intelligent Shambling Mound?
Edit Specifically the variant "Greensward" Shambling Mound with the "Gommunion with the green". This coupled with Druid would emulate a Swamp Thing style character.

Barring that, I'd also love to submit Lyrakien character.Let me know your thoughts!

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

If I do decide on a second it'll probably be a last minute thing. If you want to pitch a rough concept and IF I set up a second table and choose your concept then I'll give you a little time to build, of course. You posted pretty close to the sudden closing, after all. Your choice. To pitch or not to pitch?

Maybe. I'm one of the few GMs who run them for some reason.
I'd guess there are a couple reasons:
One is I think modules have the lowest success rate in PBP. I've run a lot of games and the only ones I've stopped early were modules ( including Witchwar Legacy once). I think players are less invested than in APs or PFS scenarios so there's a higher attrition rate. My most recent attempt to run mods was a series of them in the hope that kept players more invested.
I also think high level play is a lot more difficult in PBP. In low level play its not a huge deal to DMPC a player. Make a save, an attack or pick from a small group of spells. At higher levels there are tons more choices so there's just that much more for a GM to keep track of. Everything just takes longer.

No arguments here. I regularly roll behind a spoiler at high level just because there are so many rolls.
In my (admittedly less extensive) experience, AP's are the ones that tend to dry up just because they take so long. Life happens and it's killed more than a few AP games for me.

I feel like there are more APs so that skews the overall numbers but percentage wise modules are worse. With APs, as long as the gm sticks around they can keep going. It's easier to replace a single player in an AP and bring him/her in wherever than in modules. I have my very first game that's had a complete turnover of players but it's still going.

Hmm. I'd say in my experience that high-level homebrews usually die the quickest. And I guess that is mostly due to the massive workload on the GM as they have to work doubletime to stat out monsters and patch any plot holes the players carve with all their nice toys, in addition to what they usually have to do.
Also ...

That flavor of shambling mound could work. Just pay attention to that inability to cast spells.
I'm sorry I didn't reply right away. I missed your post somehow.
Cool! I'm glad you're okay with it and its no problem.
I could add my two points at fourth and eighth plus items via gold. I also just wanted to check if the race of lyrakien was acceptable. I'm just covering my options. :3

Character advancement? You mentioned that the shambling Mound would have an inability to cast spells as a Druid and I assumed that was due to its low wisdom. While he would be 7th level equivalent, that would leave ten character levels to add on. As per the character advancement rules, characters gain a single ability score point starting at fourth level and at every level there after. That would give him a wisdom of twelve. Adding the effects of magic items he could benefit from an even higher score and allowing him plenty of spell casting.

GM Choon |

The most tragic variant shambler is outwardly identical to a normal shambling mound (though they often fashion some of their body mass into a makeshift head and face). They are extremely rare humanoids (usually elves) whose minds, spirits, and consciousnesses have somehow endured and remained intact after a shambling mound kills and eats them. Lacking the power of speech, many are slain by their humanoid comrades as they return home in hope of a cure, but some few have managed to avoid hostilities long enough to manage peaceful communication. Those unable to secure a miracle or wish to return to their own form have sworn to use their new forms to become defenders of the woodlands. Greenswards are usually chaotic good. They retain the memories of their previous life, but they cannot speak or cast spells. A greensward’s Intelligence is +2 higher than a common shambling mound.
Emphasis mine.

Lyrakein may be hard to justify as a high level angel as they would turn into different kinds of angels as they advanced in rank, no? If you can come up with a compelling story for why it's not a planetar then good on ya. I won't lie and say I'm seeing it right now. You could totally prove me wrong, though.
