Silvio Errico |
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 Silvio slips free from the webbing moves toward the wizard. He tries to get close to the wizard to prevent more magics from being unleashed, though he potentially leaves himself open to attack in the process. Drawing an AOO from the Derro.
Not sure if I can make it onto the bed in a single move, but that's at least the goal. If that doesn't work, he will make it a double move to get in his face.
He then prepares to attack, should the caster attempt some more magics.
Readied Attack, or AOO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26; Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10;
Crit?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25; Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Wow, hope that attack gets triggered.
GM Rusty Rooster |
"Gaah!" The derro (heretofore known as Vreeg for narrative convenience) screeches as the party easily navigates the web.
Concentration: Fighting Defensively: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
He attempts to cast a spell towards Krojun, but Silvio's swings makes him flub it entirely.
"Curses!"
Party's up... I don't think he's going to last very long against you guys, heh.
Silvio Errico |
I moved Krojun to an attacking position - to set up a flank!
Silvio steps behind Vreeg, the Derro, and tries another stab! Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 = 17; Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 2 + (3, 1) = 11 But this blow also glances off the invisible barrier.
Staryth |
What in the good lady's name? Staryth wonders...
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
From behind Krojun, Staryth tries to see if his polearm has any more luck
To hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Dmg: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
which it doesn't, but at least it gives him more 'evidence' about the spell
GM Rusty Rooster |
Silvio and Staryth's attacks fare equally as poorly, getting naught but an amused chuckle out of the spellcaster.
Staryth easily puts together the words of Vreeg's spell, as he's been warned of such a spell in the past: The derro attempting to use necromantic magic to render Krojun blind entirely.
Vreeg rips a patch of cloth sewn to his robe out, and throws it on the ground. With a pulse of dark magic, a humanoid skeleton manifests, and proceeds to claw at Krojun with its bony fingers.
Claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Silvio Errico |
"Okay then, Necromancer. There's no mercy for your kind!"
Silvio attempts to move into a flanking position without drawing an attack. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28. Whoops, should've saved this! :P
He then strikes at the caster again, hoping to get by the invisible force barrier! Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 2 = 21; Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 2 + (5, 4) = 17
GM Rusty Rooster |
Silvio's attack pierces into the magical barrier, but resistance opposes him. Vreeg focuses strongly on his barrier, hoping to keep the rogue at bay. As Krojun begins to chant, however, Silvio is inspired, and he gives a strong push, driving his sword forward and into the spellcaster's chest.
"Argh!" Vreeg gasps, bleeding. He steps back, and away from the sword's blade; though the wound seems less worse than it should have been.
Staryth is up. And yes, that is definitely a mean skeleton.
GM Rusty Rooster |
Still reeling from Silvio's attack, Vreeg attempts to avoid Staryth's blade, but is caught in the shoulder, leaving a noticeable gash.
"Aargh! Gets off! Skeleton! Shields me! Attacks that ones!"
Vreeg shouts and points to Staryth, attempting to force his minion into obeying him.
Skeleton's Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The undead follows the command, attacking Staryth and putting itself in the line of attack between him and Vreeg.
Skeleton Claw vs. Staryth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Skeleton Claw vs. Staryth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
However, both hits fail to take; Staryth parries the first blow, while the second one fails to penetrate his armor.
Silvio Errico |
"Looks like your skeleton doesn't have much heart. Or other organs. Or skin, for that matter." Silvio pursues the elusive Vreeg, attempting another strike with his sword. Attack, Inspiring: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 1 = 21; Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
GM Rusty Rooster |
Krojun's attack outright scatters the skeleton through the room, sending its bones clattering about.
Silvio and Staryth's attacks are both driven away by the magical barrier.
"My skeleton! Why youse!"
Confident that his barrier will shield him from reprisal, Vreeg steps away from Silvio and begins preparing a spell.
Staryth's AoO: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Undisturbed when his protection stops the Paladin's opportunistic attack, Vreeg finishes his incantation, takes a very deep breath, and gives a shout so loud as to rattle the cave itself.
Sonic Burst
Damage to Party: 1d8 ⇒ 1 Pfft.
Silvio's Fort Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Krojun's Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Staryth's Fort Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Silvio feels the sound rattle his skull, and leans against the wall lest his legs give in. You are stunned for one rounds.
Aside from a noticeable ringing in their ears, Staryth and Krojun are mostly unscathed.
Krojun-Speaks-With-Thunder |
Yeah, inspire is still going.
"There will be no escape for you!" Krojun thunders as he bears down on the fleeing necromancer with his battleaxe.
Axe (inspire): 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 + 2 = 30
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 + 3 = 13
Confirming: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 1 + 2 = 26
Extra Damage: 2d8 + 20 ⇒ (4, 1) + 20 = 25
GM Rusty Rooster |
Krojun's mighty swing cleaves Vreeg across the back, causing the derro to gurgle incoherently and pass out from shock. The spellcaster crumples to the ground, breeding profusely.
The partly-animate torso and arm of Gaekhen continues twitching on the bench.
With that, you have most of Gaekhen, save for his left arm. There's really just one place the arm might be, as far as you can tell... Krojun figures the Sklar-Quah would be grudgingly pacified by what has been gathered, but that maving the entire body, whole or in pieces, would be preferable.
Looting Vreeg's body returns the following items:
A wand, made of gnarled wood and marked with symbols in Aklo. (Radiates necromantic magic)
Five vials of a faint blue liquid. (No magic)
His robe, adorned by three patches: One resembles a small goblinoid figure, one a more humanoid one, and one canine form. Frayed seams mark the place where the skeleton was previously torn off. (Radiates necromantic magic.)
One masterwork dagger. (No magic)
One ring. (Radiates magic)
-The religious authorities of Korvosa are split on the subject of using seized necromantic items for good purposes. The chuch of Shelyn generally prefers to have such items disenchanted for the good of all, but recognizes that, in times of crisis, it is good to use any resource on hand. Should the party decide to keep the items for later use, it would not reflect badly on you.
-Selling these items would prove problematic. While the authorities might turn a blind eye to their use for the good of Korvosa, the circulation of such items is a different story.
-To compensate for this, the good churches of the city have offered bounties for the surrender of such items. You are confident that the party would be rewarded more than fairly for returning such items.
By the way, if someone has been keeping track of any other loot found by the party since you guys leveled up, I would be super appreciative if you'd PM me the list.
Staryth |
"Gruesome..." Staryth says with a thoughtful look, Assuming the magic auras are mentioned "These necromatic items? Do we plan to use them?" He says of the wand and robe, "The Church of Shelyn prefers to disenchant, but I do not pretend I have any greater claim just because of my faith."
Krojun-Speaks-With-Thunder |
Krojun spits on the necromancer's corpse. "May you be damned to wander this world forever without peace."
The big shoanti reviews the sack of assorted remains.
"No. Our task isn't complete. Gaekhen's arm remains missing. We must search harder."
Are there any areas we haven't explored super thoroughly? We can backtrack and start taking 20.
Krojun-Speaks-With-Thunder |
Krojun brandishes the healing wand.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
For Silvio.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
33 charges remaining.
"We must check the barricaded room. Whatever horror is trapped within must contain the arm."
After the valuables have been recovered from the necromancer's corpse, Krojun leads the way back and prepares to unbar the door.
Silvio Errico |
"Is this necromancer still alive? Would the Sklar-Quah like to deliver justice to him themselves?" Silvio tries to think if he recalls anything pertinent about the Shoanti. Knowledge (local), if necessary: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24. If the party decides to take him alive, Silvio will bind the necromancer.
"Anyway, I agree we'll need to face whatever's behind that door!" Silvio gratefully accepts healing, and goes with the others to the barricade.
GM Rusty Rooster |
Staryth's Heal Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
According to Staryth, Vreeg has bled out and died.
Furthermore, the necromancers weren't the cause of Gaekhen's death. As Cressida explained, he was killed, and his corpse was later stolen by a corpse peddler and sold to the necromancers.
As Krojun picks up the torso to place it in the bag, its arm lashes out at him.
Unarmed Strike: 1d20 ⇒ 15Miss Chance: 1d2 ⇒ 2Nonlethal Damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
The corpse's clenched fist strikes him in the nose, leaving him dazed for a moment and causing him to drop it.
Silvio Errico |
Silvio does his best to stifle a chuckle. "Well then - looks like this Vreeg fellow got pretty far along in his necromancy. Are we going to have to stab this body some more?"
Krojun-Speaks-With-Thunder |
Krojun grunts in surprise and pain as the animated arm slugs him in the jaw.
Confident that the shoanti will not be pleased to see their fallen son’s remains as partially animated he retrieves his axe and hacks off the flailing limb.
I don’t know if you need rolls or not but just in case:

Silvio Errico |
"And to think we spent all this time blocking this door." After removing the various barricades, Silvio opens the door!
