It's +1 Chain Mail, the medium armor, not a chain shirt. I may have goofed on that in the gameplay thread. Sorry if I did.

Want to take the Chain Mail too, Forest? That or Artie can wield the +1 Shield and the armor so I can be the main target with Sariel out of the picture.

I won't grab anything from Kassen...because unfortunately I'm going to have to back out once Crypt of the Everflame concludes. I offered a long time ago to GM the next game for my IRL group, and a TPK today brought that moment to bear six or eight months sooner than I expected. We asked for it a little - hanging out doing research while the BBEG marshals his reinforcements is not really a good idea. Nor is wasting your way out by casting it in a room that turns out is locked to extradimensional travel. That combined with some personal stuff is leaving me without the mental capacity for my current PbP game load, so I'm having to cut back. :(

I don't want to keep that scaling dagger away from someone who'll be going on to use it, so whoever might find it useful is welcome to it. Sorry again! I wish I could go on, but my brain is just not going to handle it.

Yeah, having someone with social skills and...well, more skills would be a boon. But it's gonna be impossible to replace Calia. Maybe we should just not let you leave?

Enormous Radioactive Monster - - hp tons/tons - - AC nuh-uh I got forcefield

I understand the need to cut back- I got myself in over my head with trying to be in four games and GMing two of them all at once. But, but [puppydogeyes] but we'll miss yoo so much [/puppydogeyes]...

Regardless of what happens, Calia was in many ways the heart and soul of this adventure, and one of my favorite characters I've hosted as a GM, so thank you thoroughly for your time. :)

As for how to handle re-recruitment... well, I did have two players message me during the campaign to express interest in taking a spot if anyone dropped out, but it's been a pretty long time now. I'll probably message them over the next couple days and we'll figure out what to do together.

I'm thrilled that we finished Crypt, though there were some growing pains for me personally as I got a lot of it figured out (remember that first battle map?). It's a very straightforward adventure, but the one to come next is the exact opposite. After a bit of a journey, let's just say your characters will probably be getting mixed up in some serious intrigue. Masks of the Living God is one of my favorite modules and I'm super excited to start running it once this little transitional period has finished, so get hyped!

Also: I'm really sick right now so I'm sorry I've been so sluggish. Plus, starting a (terrible) new job has left me very drained these last few days. I wish I didn't have to have money.

Okay, folks. So here's the deal: my posting rate has plummeted over the last couple of weeks and I've been limping along, due to depression and an overwhelming work schedule. That said, today was a day full of forward progress for me and I might be able to get back to the way things were.

So, do we still want to try to go forward with the next module? Or should we call it a wrap now that we've completed one module? This is a good stopping point, but I still want to run the next two adventures if you guys are ready and willing.

Lemme know what you think and we'll figure out if this ends up being an outro or a transition.

Enormous Radioactive Monster - - hp tons/tons - - AC nuh-uh I got forcefield

I'M BACK! All the way this time! I got my prep work done (mostly) and am ready to continue. Transition post is now up.

So let's talk about two things real quick:

First, downtime and shopping. Your characters picked up a good bit of gear in the Crypt of the Everflame. Does everyone have what they kept added to their character sheets? There's also probably some money to spend. Admittedly, I'd probably need to comb back through and make sure of what all we picked up in order to be sure of what all is there. If any of you have any other things you'd like to buy, let me know; odds are good that most basic items, weapons, and armor are available, up to a limit of 500 GP. If we need to determine exactly how much wealth each of you has to spend, let me know and I'll figure that out.

Second, do we want to try to recruit another body or two? Before departing Kassen or upon arriving in

Spoiler:
Tamran
would be a good time to bring in a new character to the story.

You're also all very close to Level 3. You'll definitely hit that by the time you reach your next destination.

It might be best for us to for a comprehensive gear list, compare a bit and figure treasure distro since we have players that left and what not? I'm not remembering if someone was acting as a treasurer for us? If not I can scour try to find the time to scour the thread and see what we ended up with...

I think this is the right time to grab a body or two.

Some of this stuff was probably already claimed and distributed, and some of it you guys might have actually missed (potentially also my fault), so I went back through the module and collected everything you would have picked up. A couple of those potions probably got used already as well- I'll try to browse back through and see how many of those are left over.

Looking the list:

Magic missile isn't on my spell list and my Use Magic Device is middling at best. It might be better to sell it unless a new character can use it.

I wouldn't mind those bracers of armor.

I have to remember how learning wizard spells work for cartomancer witches.

I'd be willing to work something out for you to learn stuff from the spellbook if it's also on the witch spell list if it's not RAW for some reason.

Forest doesn't really need anything. The magic longsword works for him but other than that I can't think of anything. Maybe some special arrows.

Forest could use the water ring to shoot people from the depths. His enemies would call him..."Green October", and they would hunt him.

Hey Folks, this is Robert Henry, things are a little closer to normal in RL and I saw that Calia had to drop out. So I asked Budd if he could use a character in the game.

I didn't think that Sariel and Proudsnout were what you all needed at this time so I asked if I altered Hyder a little if he could join you. Budd thought he might be a good fit so here he is.

I'm finishing his gear and altering his backstory to fit but this is at least the crunchy bits. It's good to be back and thanks for the opportunity Budd.

Enormous Radioactive Monster - - hp tons/tons - - AC nuh-uh I got forcefield

Happy to have you back!

All right folks, my vacation begins tomorrow so I'll be starting the gameplay thread back up then. Make your final decisions regarding the loot and let me know if you want to do any shopping here or wait until you reach Tamran your inevitable mystery destination, which has a higher spending limit and thus better chances of having cool gear.

Once you're all ready to move along, gimme the word. The plan is to get the ball rollin' tomorrow!

Thanks, it's good to be back, I'll miss playing Sariel but it sounds like he's still resting from the shellacking he took helping the bad guy...Booo, Proudsnout will give him such a lecture ;) But I hope Hyder will be helpful.

Ok, Trying to get in character so I thought a vignette would help, it's a little ruff but, well, you'll get the idea.

Breakfast at ‘The Bounty’:

Hyder awakens from his dream, sweating bullets.
’Blasted priests of Razmir, they always give me the willies. Why would dreams be any different? Blast Razmir, god or not, If I serve the gods that give life what does it say about Razmir that just thinking about him gets my hackles up.’
Hyder gets out of bed reaching for the pitcher of water on his night stand, trying to lighten his own mood.
’Wonder how many visitors to the ‘last meal’ grab the chamber pot instead of the pitcher, heh, bet they only do it once.’
Downing the glass of water he poured himself from the pitcher he walks around the bed to the opposite nightstand and uses the container there for its intended purpose. Placing the lid on the chamber pot he returns to bed and eventually the fitful dream-filled stupor of the last couple nights.

’I’m going to ring that chickens neck,
Hyder frustratingly tired, promises himself as he removes the pillow covering his head while the rooster continues to crow.
That bird must be just outside my window ledge… how can it crow that loud … why are there farm animals in the middle of Tamran anyway?’
Not bothering with the shutters on the window the weary Halfling pours the remaining water from the pitcher into the dry sink set in the night stand; washing himself quickly he runs a comb through his shock of blond hair and goatee and then gets dressed.
’This needs to stop… I need to sleep… well sometimes talking about the dreams helps. I should go see Reginar, he’s the smartest man I know… well he’s at least the smartest man I know that will talk to me without charging me …and I know where he is, or at least where he will be at breakfast time.’
His mind made up Hyder uses the chamber pot one more time. Then grabbing his darkwood cane he places the chamber pot outside the door of his room and heads down the hallway of The Gar's Last Meal tapping the walls and floor with his cane as he goes, more from habit than actual need.

Arriving at ‘The Forest Bounty’ Hyder stops inside the doorway wiping his calloused feet on the reasonably fresh thresh as he looks around.
’Reginar shouldn’t be hard to find, most of the trappers and hunters that may have been here were finished with breakfast before the sun was up… who am I kidding? Reginar would be easy to find even if the place was full… listen for the loudest voice in the room and follow the trail of spilled ale to his table… ‘
Hyder smiles to himself as he looks around the room.
’Ah there he is.
Just as Hyder recognizes the storyteller Reginar calls out to him.
Over here my good Halfling! Come have some breakfast with this old adventurer!”

As Hyder approaches the table the old pathfinder stops eating long enough to stand and pull up an appropriate sized chair for the halfling. A few crumbs from the piece of toast he had just taken a bite of fly from his mouth onto his shirt as he continues;
”Sit down my boy and have some breakfast with me.”
waving for the barmaid as he returns to his seat.
’I’m in no condition to eat, I’m too worked up.’
Hyder thinks as he climbing into the chair, but smelling the sausage on Reginar’s plate he turns to the arriving waitress shaking his head.
”Oy, I really needn’t, my belly’s in a tizzy from these dreams I’ve been havein’.”
Hearing the crunch of crust as Reginar’s takes another bite of toast he continues.
”But a little dry toast would sooth tha stomach, yeah.”
Stroking his goatee as he adds
”And some hot tea with honey is good for digestion.”
Smacking his lips as he remembering the rooster who woke him.
”No harm ever come from a couple of eggs, yeah? Go ahead and make it three, over easy if it’s not a bother and six strips of bacon with a side of four of those delicious sausages you stuff here, I may as well enjoy tha house specialty while I’m about, so’s to speak.”
Reginar raises an eyebrow as the Halfling continues;
”and some ham, with a side of fried potatoes and onions don’t be skimpin’ on tha butter now.”
He places his finger to his nose, appearing deep in thought.
”And ya better include a bowl of mush with an apple sliced up in it…”
Looking from the waitress to Reginar, who is now sitting with his mouth slightly agape, he asks;
”What? Not eating enough fruit isn’t healthy for ya, you’re an educated man, you should know that.”
Turning back to the waitress he winks and smiles,
”That will be all, just a small repast, yeah.”

As the waitress turns to go, Reginar brushes the toast crumbs from his vest and asks
”So you’re having dreams that are so vexing that they have ruined your appetite? Would you care to elaborate?”
Hyder smiles, his tummy feeling better already.
”Pea’s in a pod, we are, that’s exactly why I came.”
Planting his elbows on the table chin in his palms he begins.
”The dreams started about a week ago, just flashes: a cave, a skeleton with burning eyes, priests of Razmir, in those robes and masks they wear, a ghost and some kids, yeah.”
Hearing the pause the pathfinder asks,
”So what makes you think these dreams are related?”
Hyder folding his arms, nods, as if this was the first question he expected:
”They all start to run together and there different.”
”Different how?”
”There just different, I suppose it’s ‘cause they’re in color…”
Reginar, holding his fork with a piece of sausage on it, waved the fork, expecting Hyder to continue,
”as you know, my sight is very limited and I see in what is called ‘dark vision’ only black and white, yeah. When I dreamed these particular dreams they were in color.”
Having peaked Reginar’s curiosity the old adventurer stops mid-bite
”How do you know it was in color?”
Hyder rolls his eyes;
’How do you explain what you don’t understand?’
” Because I see in a grey scale, and these weren’t that. They were something other than grey, black or white. I just know it was color, I’m an oracle, yeah, that’s what I do have dreams from the gods.”
Reginar nodded his head in understanding as the waitress brought the cup of tea with a tiny ceramic pitcher filled with honey and three plates of steaming meat products with a side of potatoes and mush.

Hyder smiles as he nods to her and begins to pour the honey liberally into the tea. Reginar, Shrugging his shoulders, as he hansters his mouth full of sausage into his cheek so he could continue speaking.
”So you say the dreams all began to run together?”
Hyder nodding takes a sip of the sweet tea
”Yeah, first it was tha priests nearing tha cave, three of them, then inside tha cave, then later there were two of ‘em. Then a walking skeleton with flaming eyes. Then tha kids, outside tha cave.”
Stopping long enough to begin cutting up his ham and sausages.
”Tha same cave as tha priest, then tha kids were inside tha cave, but they changed from dream to dream, then tha ghost…”
Reginar raised his hand, beginning to wave it; Hyder instinctively stopped speaking.
”Go back, what do you mean the kids changed?”
Hyder shook his head.
”It wasn’t always tha same kids all tha time, see. At first there was this girl with a bow, and a young lookin’ kid with dark hair in armor with a pig followin’ him and a kid with a birthmark carrying a rabbit. But later tha girl was gone and a slim boy with an athletic build had tha bow. Then tha boy with tha rabbit was gone and later the kid with the pig.”
Hyder waved his piece of bacon emphasizing the word ‘pig’ he then continued.
”And there was a dark haired girl with Harrow cards, she was there from the beginning, with another girl that was a gnome, her hair was different, tha only word to describe it is bright, yeah.”
Nodding his head in agreement with himself as he took his first bite of bacon;
” her hair was very bright. There was another boy, a huge lad with a spear and a shield, this one was bigger than most men. Then later, another couple of boys; one was plain enough but the other looked bright to me.”
Reginar, raised an eyebrow, but Hyder shrugged his shoulders;
”That’s how I saw him, bright.”
and then the Halfling took another took another bite.

The two adventurers sat quietly and ate their breakfasts, as Reginar finished his meal he asked
”You keep saying ‘the beginning’, was it one long dream like a story that continued?”
Shoveling the mush into his mouth, Hyder chewed up an apple bit and continued.
”No it was just images like paintings on a wall, but I believe they were sequential. Again that’s usually how the dreams works for me. For instance, the kid in armor with tha pig, was there, then he wasn’t. But his pig was with the girl with tha bright hair. Then in one of tha last dreams the kid in tha armor was fightin’ tha athletic boy, the one that had tha girls bow. After tha dark haired girl was putting her harrow cards on the corps of the ghost.”
Reginar waived his hands for a moment; Hyder stopped speaking and started eating again.
”You mentioned a ghost before and a skeleton with fire in its eyes and the priests of Razmir, how do the undead and the priests play into this?”
Hyder shrugged his shoulders as he wolfed down several bites of the sausages.
”I Won’t Wav a cwew…”
Hyder holds a finger up and then swallows his sausages.
”I don’t have a clue. Tha Skeleton was in an early dream and one of tha last ones. Tha priests of Razimir…”
Hyder stops speaking to spit out a piece is gristle, emphasizing his opinion of the priests.
”Them bastards were in every dream, but separate, like they were by themselves. Tha only time they was with any of tha kids is when tha bright haired girl was inspecting tha body of one of ‘em. But there were only two or three, occasionally they had henchmen with ‘em, but tha kids was never with a priest, at least not with a live priest.
Hyder stopped to eat some more sausage.
” Tha kids seemed to be fightin’ tha skeleton with tha burnin’ eyes, at least tha big one with tha spear and shield. He shattered it into a cloud of darkness. But I don’t know if that was literal or figurative, problem with bein’ an oracle. I get tha dreams but not the interpretation .”
Continuing to sip his morning ale Reginar asked
”And the ghost? Who killed it? Or was it a metaphor also?”
Hyder shrugs as he starts working on the ham pieces he had cut up, chewing and swallowing then starting another bite.
”I don’t think anyone did. The kids were with tha ghost in the same crypt where the big one ended the skeleton. This fella was layin in tha crypt and the dark haired girl put her Harrow cards on the body in the crypt and later there was a ghost. But there wasn’t a fight with tha ghost at least not as far as I can see.”
Hyder gestures to his milky white eyes before he takes another bite of ham.

Reginar sets his mug down on the table and stares at the Halfling, who continues to shovel down his three plate’s worth of food. Finally the pathfinder asks;
”What does it all mean?”
Hyder holds his knife and fork up, shrugging his shoulders.
”You mean other than Razmir is a bastard that gives me the willies and his priests are @$$ licking-toadies that make my skin crawl? I don’t have a clue. I was sort of hoping you could tell me. And you don’t have ta be an oracle to figure that out about Razmir and his crew.”
Reginar, who distrusts the religion of Razmir as much as Hyder smiles and nods as he begins to respond to Hyders line of questioning with his own story.

”I have a fellow pathfinder. I may have mentioned to you, an old acquaintance I would go so far as to call him a friend, Cygar. He happens to be staying in a place called Kassen. Does his name ring a bell?”
Hyder grunts and shrugs noncommittally as he continues eating the eggs and potatoes, occasionally looking up as Razmir continues with his monolog.
”This fellow pathfinder has been watching events unfold there similarly to how I have been watching the church of Razmir here. We communicate by mail up and down the river, using boats of course. Well he has contacted me about certain events that involved some priests of Razmir. He knows that I have been watching them intently and he thought I would find the information curious; if not, a little informative. Interestingly enough the story also involved a crypt and some young adults, who by the way, performed fabulously and sound exactly like the “kids” you have described.”

Reginar, eyes twinkled as he waited expectantly for a comment from the little oracle. He was a little crestfallen when Hyder’s response was similar to his own earlier in the meal. The Halfling, mouth full of food, waved his fork, bearing yolk covered fried potatoes, in the air in front of him before he popped it in his mouth. Reginar gave a slight smile and continued.
”It seems my fellow pathfinder feels these young adults should come to Tamran to continue their, if you will, adventure. There’s other information that he included that I won’t bore you with, but suffice to say I have hired a boat to go and pick the adventurers up.”

Hearing there was more to the story Hyder swallowed his mouthful and asked,
”More to tha story? Well spill tha beans, yeah!”
Reginar smiled, shrugging his shoulders, downplaying his information.
”Oh it wasn’t much, something about the priest stealing two pendants that become a key. “
Reginar’s smile broadens to a wide grin.
”But I’ll let you ask the folks yourself. Like I said I’ve hired Captain Walren to go pick them up. It seems like they are planning on coming to Tamran and then possibly sailing to an island on Lake Encarthan. I guess we need a guide who knows the city of Tamran, and can find their way around a river boat and has sailed the lake. Maybe someone who has a vested interest, you know, like a sign from the gods. You wouldn’t have anyone in mind would you?”

Hyder smiled as he stacked his three empty plates and pushed them away.
”You know what the Shoanti say "There’s no guide like a blind guide", when do I leave?”

Here we go, folks! I'm updating the campaign tab and header to reflect the fact that we have now OFFICIALLY STARTED BOOK 2!

I want to apologize for my spotty access lately, I am having some issues at home and at work that are impacting my ability to get onling physically and taking a toll on getting into the groove emotionally. I expect this to be a patch of turbulence that might last another month or so but shouldn't take me out of the fight. I will continue to try to get on as often as I can but if you are willing to be patient, I will slowly get back up to speed. I apologize for my delays.

No worries!

Enormous Radioactive Monster - - hp tons/tons - - AC nuh-uh I got forcefield

I'll be at DragonCon from today through Monday, so I apologize in advance if my access to the boards is limited. I'll try to keep an eye on things here anyway, but I wanted to warn everybody ahead of time!

The Exchange

Male Human Desk Monkey 2/ Logistics Guru 3/ Over-educated 2/Gamer 6

masterwork short sword - body in the lake
masterwork crossbow - gifted from Roldare
+1 dagger - retrieved from the fire in the shadow room
ring of swimming - on the body in the frog room
+1 longsword - found on Asar
+1 chainmail - found on Asar
bag of holding, type I - gifted from Kassen's spirit
+1 bashing shield - gifted from Kassen's spirit
elemental gem (water) - gifted from Kassen's spirit
Kassen's Boon (one for everybody) - gifted from Kassen's spirit
wand of magic missile (CL 3rd, 22 charges) - found on the dead Razmiran
bracers of armor +1 - found on the dead Razmiran
horn of fog - found on the dead Razmiran
354 GP - found on the dead Razmiran
spellbook containing cause fear, enlarge person, expeditious retreat, false life, levitate, mage armor, magic missile, ray of enfeeblement, and all wizard cantrips - found on the dead Razmiran
TOTAL GP FOUND: 738/

Some thoughts. If we divide the738 by 6 (Sariel, Calia, Forest, Laird, Artemis, Doreen) we get 123 GP ea. Sound fair?

Of the reduced lis of items below I see the following claimed:

+1 Chainmail - ARtie
+1 BAshing Shield - Artie
Bracers of Armor +1 - Doreen
Spellbook - Doreen
Kassen's Boon - 1 for each character in the tomb

That leaves quite a bit unaccounted for:
masterwork short sword - body in the lake
masterwork crossbow - gifted from Roldare
+1 dagger - retrieved from the fire in the shadow room
ring of swimming - on the body in the frog room
+1 longsword - found on Asar
bag of holding, type I - gifted from Kassen's spirit
elemental gem (water) - gifted from Kassen's spirit
wand of magic missile (CL 3rd, 22 charges) - found on the dead Razmiran
horn of fog - found on the dead Razmiran

I can use the crossbow and I am happy to take the bag. I think I can use the wand or at least try. But that leaves the ring, the +1 longsword, the MW shortsword, the elemental gem. I think, if we are eventually headed to an island, that keeping the ring and the gem might make sense? The horn can be seufl but sold in town? Would any of us in character be -willing- to sell Asar's sword?

Male Ranger/4 | HP: 36/36 | AC: 18 / T: 14 / FF: 14 | Fort: +5, Ref: +8, Will: +3 | M. Atk: +6, R. Atk: +8 | CMB: +6, CMD: 20 | Init: +4, Perception: +9

Forest has the +1longsword. I'll update my gear list one day I swear!

Sariel would have rejected the money, partially out of embarrassment and partially out of humility so just split it five ways.

Female Human Witch 1 | Init +2 | HP 10 | AC 12 | CMD 11 | Fort +0 | Ref +2 | Will +5 | Perception +2 | 1st Lvl Spells: 4/day

My thoughts:

1. Masterwork short sword: Sell this.

2. Masterwork crossbow: Return this to poor Roldare.

3. +1 dagger: Does anyone NOT have a +1 weapon at this point? This is a good backup just in case.

4. Ring of swimming: Group property, to be given to the person who has to make a swim check at the time.

5. Bag of holding: Given to whomever we designate as our quartermaster.

6. Elemental Gem: Give it to Laird. He's a summoner. It makes sense.

7. Wand of Magic Missile: This will come down to a UMD roll. So either myself or Laird would be best if we aren't going to sell it.

8. Horn of Fog: Group property, to be used by whomever it makes sense to use it at the time.

As for the money, I'd honestly prefer a group fund rather than individual coin. For the time being, at least, chances are our expenses will be as a whole instead of as individuals.

Male Ranger/4 | HP: 36/36 | AC: 18 / T: 14 / FF: 14 | Fort: +5, Ref: +8, Will: +3 | M. Atk: +6, R. Atk: +8 | CMB: +6, CMD: 20 | Init: +4, Perception: +9

I agree with Doreen. The horn should probably go with one of our squishy casters as protection from archers.
